"Okay, so are you sure about this?" Asked a nervous Dib.
"For the umpteenth time yes!" Tenn shouted. "Now, do you remember what you should ask about?"
"Yeah, Tallest Spork." Dib replied.
"And what did we specifically tell you not to mention?" Asked Tak.
"Anything regarding my er connection with other irkens." He replied.
"Good…" Tenn said. "Computer! Make the call."
Dib was still nervous. He had only seen the Meekrobs once and that was in a simulation Zim put him through. Tenn had agreed to do it as she still had contacts in meekrob or at least the ability to contact them. However, for obvious reasons, none of the irkens could make the call.
Dib took a deep breath and shortly thereafter the screen came on and one of the meekrob's answered.
"Good day… Hmmm… I don't think I know you." Said the Meekrob.
"Oh… good day sir, um is this… (Dib looked to his hand where Tenn wrote who he was talking to). Jek… um, Jek of historical records?" He asked.
"Yes, this is he, but who are you?" Jek asked.
"Um… Dib of planet earth." He answered.
"One moment… hmmm… ah, earth… given the amount a call from there would cost I'll try to be as quick as possible." Said Jek politely.
"Thanks… um, I would like to ask about any records on the Tallest Spork." Said Dib.
"Searching… hmmm… Tallest Spork, Tallest for about one standard week by himself that is shortly after the death of Miyuki…"
Jek stopped his explanation and looked to Dib.
"Why do you want to know this?" He asked.
"Um…" Dib stammered. "…Well did Tallest Spork visit your planet at some point in time after his "death" He stated plainly.
"Who are you?" Asked Jek suspiciously.
"Oh, will you just answer his questions!" Yelled Zim."
"Shut up." Tenn whispered.
"Who was that?" Jek asked. "Who is with you?"
"Um….. uh…" Dib's mind went blank.
"It is I Zim!" The irken yelled as he ran next to Zim. "And you will tell Zim what happened to Tallest Spork."
"Ah Ha! Irkens… as if I… wait… did you say your name was Zim?" Asked Jek.
"Yes! It is Zim!" He replied.
"Oh… let me patch you through." Replied Jek.
"What's going on?" Asked Tenn.
"I have no idea." Dib answered.
Suddenly another meekrob (Dib assumed it was another one, it was hard to tell the difference between them).
"Well, Zim… this is… well we thought this call would come much sooner, but better late than never." Said another Meekrob said.
"What?" Zim asked.
"Well, Tallest Spork said that… well guess I should just show you." She said.
Suddenly the screen switched to what Dib assumed was some kind of old video. On it was Tallest Spork and Dib assumed the Meekrob which now stood before them.
"So, you propose peace?" Asked the Meekrob.
"Progressive peace, I understand it won't be achieved overnight." Answered Spork.
"And these are the irkens that will accomplish this?" Asked the Meekrob.
"They should… they just don't know it yet." Replied Spork.
"So, how long?" Asked the Meekrob.
"Maybe 2 centuries?" Spork responded.
"You have 1." Said the Meekrob.
"Fine, but you know neither our species benefit from all-out warfare." He replied.
"Well, we aren't going to sit back and let your kind conquer every last planet until they have a force strong enough to defeat us."
"I understand." Said Spork.
"Good then. We'll hold off for a century while awaiting these "ambassadors" to do their part."
With that, the video ended.
"What? What exactly was Tallest Spork's plan?" Asked Tenn.
"You were…" Replied the Meekrob. "…He told us his plan to unify planets under peace treaties as opposed to invading and conquering them."
"We were invaders, not ambassadors!" Yelled Zim.
"Why do you think we let you go pink-eyed one?" Asked the Meekrob.
"I escaped!" She shouted.
"Sure you did." Replied the Meekrob sarcastically. "Regardless you have less than half a century to fulfill the terms made by Tallest Spork."
"And if we don't?" Asked Zim.
"Use your imagination." Replied the Meekrob.
With that, the screen went off.
"Gotta admit I'm starting to like this Tallest Spork guy." Said Dib.
"Well, that gave us almost nothing." Tak said. "We still have no idea where Tallest Spork is."
"Perhaps we don't…" Said Skoodge. "…But at least we know why he went to Meekrob."
"What does that matter?" Asked Zim. "His foolish plan of peace!? Back! Ambassadors and not invaders!? Like the mighty irken empire would ever become such a thing!"
"What's wrong with that?" Asked Dib.
"Like Zim will waste his time explaining it to you…" Said Zim as he began to walk out. "…Zim has more important things to do."
"You can leave." Said Tenn to Dib and Tak.
"Oh, Dib wait a second." Said Skoodge.
"What is it?" Asked Dib.
"Just… um need your help with something." The wider irken said.
"That breathing underwater device again?" Asked Dib.
"No…" Replied Skoodge.
"…Something else."
Gaz sat in frustration. Those battle simulators were something else. Often she found herself beaten before she even inflicted significant damage. Zim wasn't joking when he said they were reserved for irken elites. However, that would not deter her. She was going to beat level 1 and…
Gaz caught herself… She hadn't even gotten past level one yet. She slumped down on Zim's couch. According to the records he had already gotten to level 20 and she was stuck on 1. How could he of all people be better at her in battle?
Speaking of which, said green alien came bursting through the door and sat on his couch. He seemed frustrated.
Gaz didn't say anything, she just looked in his direction as he copied her slumping motion.
"So, are you currently sane?" asked Zim.
"Yup." Gaz replied. "Making sure to take breaks."
"That's nice." He said unenthusiastically.
"Bad day?" Asked Gaz.
"There aren't many good ones on your planet." Said Zim causing Gaz to chuckle slightly.
"I tell you, every time we find out something about Spork it raises more questions than it answers!" He shouted.
"Sounds like one of those puzzle/mystery games." Said Gaz.
"Oh, this is no game." Zim answered. "At least not a very fun one."
Gaz was about to respond when Zim's lights suddenly went out.
"Computer what is the meaning of this!?" He yelled.
No response.
"Computer!? Restore power immediately!" Ordered Zim, but nothing seemed to be happening.
"Computer?"
"Hello, Zim." Came a rather erie voice.
"Who is this!?" Zim yelled.
"Oh, and who is the pink-haired one?" Asked The voice ignoring Zim's question.
"Wo… spooky… think I'll leave." Said Gaz as she hopped off the couch only to be grabbed and put right back on it by one of Zim's metal poles with hands."
"What? What gives!?" She said.
"Oh, please stay." The voice came again.
"Who are you and what have you done with Zim's base!?" He yelled.
Suddenly the television came on.
"You!" Zim yelled.
"Hello again." Said the Meekrob on the other side. It was the same Meekrob that had given them all the information on Spork.
"You know this guy?" Asked Gaz.
"So who's the pink-haired human?" Asked the Meekrob.
"The sister of the bigheaded one!" Replied Zim. "Wait… why is Zim answering you? Get out of Zim's base!"
"Not until I finish what I have to tell you." Came the reply. "You see Zim, Tallest Spork had a message just for you."
"What? What message!?" Zim asked.
Suddenly the screen switched and Zim could once again see Tallest Spork and the same Meekrob in the same room as before.
"So, his name is Zim?" Asked the Meekrob.
"Yes… he was working in the science lab but he should be an invader soon." Said Spork.
"And he's defective?" Asked the Meekrob. "Will that affect his…"
"I don't know…" Replied Spork. "…but we've actually gone over his pak and made a few amazing discoveries actually."
Zim watched intently as Spork talked about him. It was almost as if Gaz could see the red glow of his eyes under his contacts.
"Interesting." Said the Meekrob. "So his defect could actually work to his advantage."
"It could… they have no way of shutting him down even if they find out." Said Spork.
"Okay, so do you want me to…"
"Just tell Zim." Said Spork. "Should he ever come into contact with you that I have something I want to say to him.
"And how will he find you?" Asked the Meekrob.
"He won't… I'll find him."
Then the screen went off and Zim's base appeared to go back to normal.
"Wait!" Zim yelled. "Was that it!?"
"Was what it?" His computer responded.
"Where are you!?" Asked Zim.
"I'm right here." Responded the computer.
"Looking for me!?" Asked Gir as he came from the kitchen.
"What!?" Zim yelled.
"No! Gir… oh nevermind!" Said Zim as he turned to the couch.
"Oh, you still here?" Asked Zim.
"Um… Zim…" Gaz asked.
"Yes?" He asked back frustrated.
"What's a defect?"
At this Zim's demeanor went straight to anger.
"Get out!" He yelled as he headed for the toilet and went under.
Gaz could have simply followed Zim's orders…
…Then again, why start now?
"You sure about this?" Asked Dib.
"Positive." Said Skoodge.
"So why aren't you telling Tenn?" He asked.
"Because I don't need her freaking out." Replied the alien.
"Okay… well if your analysis is correct then Spork left Meekrob shortly after arriving." He said.
"I already know that…" replied Skoodge. "What I need your help with is figuring out what his destination was."
"How am I supposed to help with that?" Asked Dib.
"Simple… Here's a list of all the planets in which his ship was heading in. Now a vessel such as the one he left on would leave a rather large trail of emissions. I simply want you to follow the trail and see where it goes."
"Why can't you do this?" Asked Dib.
"Because I don't have a lab to analyze the information, and as I pointed out earlier I don't want Tenn to know. Take your time and let me know when you have the results." Said Skoodge before he left Dib's house.
Dib practically jumped for joy. He would be tracking Spork's travels and perhaps figure out where this Tallest ended up. In truth, he would like to meet him. Maybe they could talk about unifying the entire galaxy. Then everyone would know that Dib was right about aliens and all this stuff. He knew Skoodge told him to take his time, but once the alien left he ran down to his father's labs…
…and began following Spork's travels.
Zim once again found his head on the console. He was actually starting to get comfortable there.
"Really Zim?" Asked Gaz as she came in.
"Go away." He said without moving his head.
"Computer?" Asked Gaz. "What's a defect?"
"A defect is when an irken's pak…" The computer began.
"Silence!" Zim ordered. "It is none of your business." He told her.
"Come on Zim just tell me." Demanded Gaz.
"And why would I the mighty Zim!" He responded as having now lifted his head off the console approached her. "Tell you Gaz-human anything about irken culture!?"
"Didn't you hear what that floaty alien said?" She asked.
"About what?" Asked Zim.
"About your defect and how it could actually work to your advantage." She reminded him.
At this, Zim went silent for a moment.
"Of course!" He yelled. "Of course… Computer run scans on Zim's pack and figure out what special skills my defection gives me!" He ordered.
"Oh now look what you've done." Said the computer to Gaz.
"So Zim… now that we've established that." Gaz said.
"For the third time…" She went on.
"…What is a defect!?"
Dib yawned. It was nearly 5 a.m. and yet he was still going at it. Almost every time he was ready to put it down, he discovered another place where Tallest Spork had ventured. The Tallest never stopped on a planet that was currently under control of the irken armada, in fact, he seemed to be actively avoiding them.
Smart Dib thought as he continued to monitor the past movements of the green-eyed irken. He never stayed on one planet for more than a week. He probably was only stopping to rest and refuel or get snacks or something. His journey kept taking him farther and farther from irken territories until he pretty much had multiple planets to choose from to set up a new base. However, he hadn't permanently stopped at any of them.
Where were you going? Thought Dib
*Clank*
"Hmmm, hello?" Dib asked as he heard a small noise nearby.
He dismissed it quickly and went back to his research. He was getting close to figuring out where Tallest Spork ended up. He could feel it. It was late he was tired but he kept going. He was going to find…
"What?" Dib asked as he continued to monitor the trail.
"That can't be." He said as it appeared that the trail had completely stopped. However, the area it had didn't seem compatible to support, any kind of life really. Dib looked for suitable planets around the area, but found nothing really. He then began backtracking. Perhaps he had missed som…
*Clank*
Dib turned around. "Hello? Dad? Gaz?" He asked.
No answer.
He then turned back to the device Skoodge had given him to track the trail…
…"What? No…" His words were cut off as his mouth was grabbed.
Then he found himself suddenly incredibly sleepy…
…so sleepy.
Thank you for all who made it to the end. Don't forget to leave a review.
May God bless you all.
