Chapter 59: The Master Plan

Freddie sat patiently on the same bench in Green Lake Park. His heart was racing as he watched Valerie walk off down the path and exit the park. His mind was working a million times a minute and it was completely frazzled. What had he got himself into? As soon as Valerie was out of sight, he stood up and bolted in the complete opposite direction. He never knew that he could run so fast, but he was up and out of the park via the top exit in a matter of seconds. As soon as his feet hit the main sidewalk, Freddie instantly stopped running. He looked left to right whilst catching his breath and checked left to right again to make sure nobody was around. With him in the clear, he headed to the back of a grey van that was parked stationary. Freddie opened its back doors and quickly climbed inside.

"Did you get it?" Freddie asked frantically as he slammed the vans back doors shut. "Please tell me you got it" he stressed as he turned to face Brad who was typing away on his laptop with a headset on.

"I got it" Brad confirmed as he continued to type away.

"Thank goodness for that" Freddie replied as he pulled out the recording equipment that was hiding in his jacket. "I need to talk to Sam" he stressed, picking up his cell phone.

"No, Freddie you need to relax" Brad insisted. "As soon as this recording has finished downloading you need to get straight to the police station with it."

"I need to talk to her, I need to explain" Freddie rambled.

"Sam needs to wait" Brad cut in. "Freddie, do you not get it? Valerie is expecting you to be at her house today. You need to get to the police station" he continued.

"Yeah, I know" Freddie agreed. "But I've broke her heart. I didn't expect her to show up last night or today. I just thought we would get this done without anyone else knowing and this whole thing would go away" he ranted.

"I know you did but Sam will understand. She will forgive you but in the meantime you need to get to the police station first" Brad ordered, handing him a copy of the recording that they had just made.

….

Three hours later Freddie exited the doors to the police station. He felt a sense of relief with what he had done and hoped that he had provided enough evidence to prove that he had nothing to do with what had happened to Sam. Hopefully he would now be free of Valerie. However he also felt physically sick and guilt ridden with the fact that he had to break Sam's heart just to get the evidence that he so desperately needed. He had to find her, he had to explain and he had to do whatever it would take to get her to forgive him. Finding her was a lot easier than he anticipated though because as he turned to come down the steps from the police station, Sam was there. She was there waiting for him at the bottom of the steps and his brown eyes instantly latched on to her blue ones. Freddie noticed that her eyes were puffy, she had been crying.

"Did Brad come and find you?" Freddie instantly asked as he raced down the steps to join her. "Ow, what was that for?" he then exclaimed, reacting the fact that she had just punched him in the shoulder.

"Dude, why didn't you just tell me?" Sam questioned with a frown.

"I didn't want to get your hopes up, I didn't want to get my hopes up" Freddie responded. "Plus, you weren't supposed to show up last night and you weren't supposed to show up today. I thought Brad and I could get this done without anyone knowing" he explained.

"Still should have told me" Sam mumbled, turning her head away from him.

"Yeah, I know and I'm sorry" Freddie apologised. "But it's done now."

Freddie placed a small smile on his lips as he continued to stare at a Sam who was refusing to look at him. He carefully stepped forward and placed his arms around her waist.

"Forgive me, please?" he begged and Sam just shook her head whilst lifting her arms up and lacing them around his shoulders. It was clear that she was being stubborn. "Please" Freddie begged again as he started to trail soft kisses up her neck and was murmuring the word please between each neck kiss. His soft kisses followed a trail up her neck and chin. Freddie then stopped and looked at Sam directly in the eyes before planting a soft and delicate kiss on her lips.

"I love you" Freddie told her.

"I love you too" Sam replied. "But you're an idiot" she told him with a smile as their lips joined together once more.
