The whole way back to New Orleans Klaus thought about what Caroline had said to him.

"I get it, you don't love me anymore. You don't even like me anymore."

How the hell could she think something like that, he thought to himself the whole flight back. He had loved her 15 years ago as much as he loved her now, that girl who was currently unreachable.

He knew that they needed to talk about it and clear that up but he didn't wish to upset her more. Not before meeting Emma for the first time. So he planned to have that conversation with her at home.

When they reached the courtyard of their home, the abattoir, they didn't get far as Emma ran down the stairs and went straight to hug Caroline who caught her awkwardly. Freya and Rebekah were right in tow and chose to hug Klaus first.

"So glad you are back, I don't think Emma could have waited any longer," Rebekah said and winked at Klaus who just ignored her.

"Yeah, I trust that you are now rested and ready to take over," Freya added, keeping a little distance with them.

"Mommy, mommy, do you know what I got in Disneyland?"

Caroline who felt really out of place at that moment smiled her best smile as she said, "No, I don't, sweetheart, why don't you tell me?"

Just as she had said those word Klaus froze in place. And Rebekah and Freya looked on, confused, and Emma, well, she seemed a little annoyed.

"Mom, stop fooling around. 'Sweetheart' is daddy's nickname for us. I want you to call me as you have always called me. You haven't forgotten, have you?"

Klaus who was behind Emma muttered so Caroline would hear him but Emma wouldn't.

'Ladybug'

"No, my Ladybug, how could I forget something so important!?" Caroline said, keeping a huge smile on.

"Be natural, Caroline." Klaus whispered.

Rebekah who also had a vampire hearing looked at the show and understood that something was very wrong. Freya who didn't hear the clues, just looked on, totally confused at what was going on.

"So what did you get at Disneyland, Emma?"

Emma looked at all the other adults and then back to Caroline and just like that she ran up the stairs and into her room.

"Okay, what the bloody hell is going on?" Rebekah demanded answers.

"It's a long story, Rebekah." Klaus said sombrely.

"And they are tired and should get some rest first."

That was Elijah on the balcony, who had caught most of the show and knew that whatever was going on, interrogating them now wasn't a good idea.

"I'll rest later. I have to go talk to Emma first. Come on, Caroline, I'll take you to our room."

Rebekah and Freya just looked on, growing more confused and worried by the minute.

So while Caroline was setting in, Klaus went to talk to his daughter.

He knocked on the door and where there was no answer he opened it and found her laying on the bed, with tears streaming down her face.

"Emma, it's me, daddy, can I come in? I need to have a talk with you, explain things."

"Dad, please send this person away. I don't know who she is, but it's not mom."

Klaus went into the room and sat down on the bed.

"Look, sweetheart, I know, how you must feel, but I assure you, it's mom. She's just a little different temporarily."

"Temporarily, what do you mean by 'temporarily'? What's wrong with her?"

"You know how we have explained that we are not regular people, that for example aunt Freya is a witch who can do spells and such?"

"Yes, dad, mum is a young vampire and Elijah and Rebekah are original vampires and you are the original hybrid."

"Yes, that's right, as such, around us different unexplainable things happen sometimes and this now is one of those times."

Emma, having found some consolation from that explanation sat up and went to hug Klaus, "So mom is coming back soon? Why aren't you doing something to make her come back quicker?"

"I don't know what to do, sweetheart. I wish I knew. But mom loves you very much and soon things wil be the way they used to be, I promise."

"Okay, daddy. I can wait."

Klaus laughed a little at that and hugged his daughter even tighter.

Caroline was in the master bedroom she supposedly shared with Klaus and instead of going to bed she walked on to the balcony that had a view of the street. She had never felt so out of place and alone. It was totally depressing for her.

She was listening in on Klaus' talk with Emma and her eyes started to get watery. She didn't know her own daughter and it was messing with the child's mind. She missed her mom and as much as she wanted to be that mom, at least temporarily, until this whole mess got sorted out, so she wouldn't be upset, she knew, that she just wasn't up to the challenge. She didn't know who Caroline that belonged in this reality, actually was and so she had no idea how to imitate her properly. They should have known that it was a mission impossible from the start.

Her thoughts were cut off by Klaus coming in the room.

"Got her to calm down a little?" Caroline asked him

"Yeah. Look, sweetheart, I know you want to rest, but maybe we should go talk to Freya now, to get everything sorted out quicker."

"Actually I'm not tired, not at all actually and I want answers just as much as you do."

"I'm sorry, guys, but I don't have the answer you are looking for." Freya told them after hearing the story from Caroline's perspective.

"Anything?" Klaus asked Freya, "You are a thousand years old witch, you must know something about time travelling."

"Time travelling is rare, it doesn't take just one spell, it's something that requires someone very powerful to work with a witch. I don't know of any witches doing it themselves."

"Someone very powerful, like an original?" Caroline asked.

"More like someone in charge of the other side, or the hell or the heaven."

"Oh, like bonnie was the anchor to the other side one time?" Caroline asked.

"Yes, something like that. Is she still in the she did something?" Freya asked.

"No, Bonnie wasn't the anchor anymore when I was…in my present."`

"Well, SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE must know SOMETHING about what's going on here!" Klaus grew impatient.

"I might be able to help,"

They all, Caroline, Klaus, Freya and Elijah and Rebekah, who were also in the room, turned to the door and found a woman there that no one besides Caroline recognized.

"Valerie?"
