Scott stared at her, dumbfounded. John frowned at him, looking between the two of them before asking if Scott had met Kayo before. Scott shook his head as Kayo closed the gap between them.
Kayo grabbed Scott's arm and dragged him into the gym fully, smiling even more as John rolled his eyes and left them to it, promising to tell the others to leave them to their session.
'I would usually threaten you right now.'
'Threaten me?'
'Yeah, you know. The usual "tell and you're dead" kind of threat.'
'Oh. Why can't you just go back?'
'Returning to Soul Society is not that easy, I'm afraid. Only a Reaper can get there and I've lost all my reaper powers.'
'Sorry to hear that. Where did they go, your reaper powers?'
She looked at him, one eyebrow raised as if she couldn't believe he needed to ask that. Kayo pointed at him.
'I only intended to give you half my powers last night, but you took them all. Your spiritual pressure was stronger than I thought.'
'What – so I'm a Reaper now?'
'Yep. Your soul has been transformed into a Reaper's soul.'
Kayo punctuated her words with pokes to his chest. Scott reeled as the import of what she was saying sunk in.
'And now you're not a Reaper people can see you?'
'No. Spirits, Hollows and Reapers are all invisible to humans. I'm temporarily using a faux human body.'
Once more Scott's brain shorted out at that revelation, but before he could ask her what the hell she was talking about Kayo carried on talking, walking away from Scott as she did until she had put some space between them. She pulled a red glove from a pocket somewhere and put it on.
'I want my powers back!'
She ran at Scott, red-gloved hand out. He braced, but instead of hitting him squarely in the chest and bouncing back, she ran through him…
…and Scott found himself on his back on the floor in the clothes he'd been wearing the night before AND standing still behind Kayo. He watched as his body dropped bonelessly to the ground.
'Wait!'
But Kayo didn't wait. She strode over to him and pulled out the giant sword from the sheath on his back while he was still shocked at what had happened.
She handed him the sword hilt-first, and he took it absentmindedly. She walked around Scott until she was standing in front of him, the point of the sword held against her chest.
'You will have to stab me in the chest to reverse it, reverse the power.'
'You gotta be joking!'
'Use both hands.'
Scott did what he was told without thinking.
'Hold still.'
'No – wait…'
'Ready?'
'No!'
Kayo didn't wait. She pushed herself against the tip much like Scott had done last night. He braced…
…nothing happened.
