She spent the time waiting for Scott to come around fulfilling her cover story. She'd managed to 'persuade' Grandma and John she was here to train the brothers and so she would. It would give her ample opportunity to see what Scott was already capable of and how to help him tap those skills and progress them further.
Kayo was pretty sure International Rescue didn't train with swords.
That evening found Scott ready for bed far earlier than usual. Having his soul pushed out of his body had worn him out, and he could understand what Kayo meant by him being 'spiritually' weak. Not that he would admit that to the reaper.
Alan caught up with him on the stairs.
'Scott, have you seen my pyjamas? The white ones with red rockets on?'
'No, why would I?'
'Where would they go?'
Alan sounded a little defeated, and Scott ruffled his hair as they passed each other, smiling fondly at Alan's scowl before entering his rooms.
He was shocked out of his tiredness when he saw Kayo had made a bed up in his quarters.
'What are you doing here?! And in Alan's pyjamas?'
'I have no home and no clothes to wear. And furthermore, you need my help to become a reaper.'
Scott pinched his nose and sighed.
'I think I'll take a pass at that.'
'You can't run away from it. Accept it.'
'Scott?'
Gordon's voice came through the doorway, question clearly heard. Scott's eyes went wide. Last thing he wanted was to be caught with Kayo in her pyjamas in his rooms…He span around to intercept his brother.
'Scott, you got someone in here?'
'Er…no.'
Even Scott winced at how unconvincing he sounded. Gordon looked around, made to pass Scott before giving him a playful shove and sidestepping him to look past him into the bedroom.
Scott started after him…but there was no one there. Gordon frowned, sure he'd heard Scott and someone else talking. He turned to look at his eldest brother, and Scott quickly put as neutral an expression on as he could.
'Told you.'
'You're acting all weird, big bro.'
'Uh huh. Get to bed, Fish.'
Gordon flipped a hand at him and disappeared, and Scott headed immediately back into the bedroom.
Kayo was exactly where he'd left her.
'Hey, Reaper.'
'My name is Tanusha Kyrano.'
'Well, we are done here. I can give you one of the guest rooms in the villa. If Grandma really did hire you she'll have a fit if you're not there. And maybe you can leave me alone.'
'You need to accept that our fates are joined. There are rules you need to follow.'
'Rules?'
'Yes. Rule One. Don't get any ideas because we're cohabitating.'
'We're WHAT?'
But Kayo had already turned her back on Scott and gone to sleep.
