The lights dim down as the pair walks on stage, with Jellal making himself comfortable on the piano seat and Juvia standing at the center of the stage. As she rests the violin on her shoulder, her sapphire blue eyes open widely. She sees him, that familiar face sitting in the front seat, facing them directly. The most honorable seat for the most honorable figure.
Father, you're here…
A wave of excitement washes over her as the bluenette smiles, he's here to see them, to see her and Jellal playing mother's favorite song. And for that, they will put on the greatest performance, just for him.
Jellal touches the keyboard. One note, two notes, his fingers spread out, every note is as crisp and bright as the morning sun. Juvia moves her arm, beautiful violin sound emits into the air, intertwined with her brother's piano.
Every note is pleasant to the ear, telling the story of a man who devoted his life to his partner, the love that makes him feel euphoric, that he is deeply in love with his beloved significant other. An endless love that was written in a song dedicated to one person, a love that made the author fly to the moon.
Every pull creates a lovely sound, as clear as a crystal that makes its way to everyone's heart, capturing the bubbly fuzzy feeling one can call love. Her expression is calm and yet, every pull of the bow is sharp, full of pride and joy, and yet, so graceful, like a flower petal touches the surface of the water. It creates a ripple effect that spread out and pulls the heart of the audience.
The sound of violin and piano on stage is pure and kind, the clear notes bring joy to everyone. The performance itself is not tied to any restriction or any form of technique, it is just two people playing the song that their mother loved so much. A true declaration of freedom…
Freedom to do whatever they want…
Freedom to play the instrument however they please…
Freedom to express the true feeling of oneself…
William watches the performance, his vision is blurry and hazy. He feels something slides down his face, are these tears…? Looking at his children playing their mother's favorite song, the man unconsciously taps his finger on the armrest, his lips slightly mouthing the lyrics. He can see her, his beloved Elly, she is on stage with her children, smiling kindly at him, still wearing the same dress she wore on their first performance.
'Fly me to the moon' is not a sophisticated piece of music for a violin sonata. While everyone is pulling out their best performance, polishing every note that is on the music sheet, Juvia and Jellal go in the opposite direction. And yet, everything about their performance is filled to the brim with emotion, love, a song that is dedicated to not only their late mother but also that man, William Fernandes.
Juvia opens her eyes, she looks at her father, who is enjoying every second of this, and then, at her beloved Gray-sama. He is sitting with his friend, a kind and loving smile appears on his lips. His eyes never leave her, not even once. He has seen this side of her before, playing the violin gracefully. Every sound she makes is pure and vibrant, painting a beautiful picture of a love song. It feels like something is pulling her heart, each thumping becomes louder and louder. Her heart swells in the overwhelming feeling, there are butterflies in her stomach, and her mind goes to the lyrics of this song as she silently sings in her head.
Until…
In other words… I love you…
His eyes open widely, his whole body freezes. He can see it, she is mouthing the words to him. A love confession…
There's a soft smile on her lips, her heart is at peace as Juvia stands still, sinking herself in the silent moment. She is satisfied…
When Juvia opens her eyes again, her brother is standing right next to her, so close that she can feel the heat from his body. The crow cheers them on, clapping hands become louder and louder and they receive a standing ovation. Juvia is surprised, but what happens next almost makes her cry. Their father, although still sitting, is clapping his hand, there's a peaceful look on his face, like he's at ease with his heart. Jellal looks at him and they bow to the audience one last time, his eyes never leave his father.
When they walk backstage, Juvia is welcomed with a big embrace from Meredy, who can't stop crying. Lyon follows her from behind, smiling and telling them how amazing their performance is. There are many people backstage who are brought to tears after listening to their song.
They walk out backstage and are welcomed by the cheers of all their friends. They are all here for them. Erza walks up the Jellal, smiling softly. She is so proud of him, so proud that he is finally showing his true form of music, no longer chained by the expectations of his own father. They smile and laugh together, happy to see that the performance is a success.
A success to the department and to the blue-haired siblings as well…
Loke suggests throwing a big celebration at Gray's place, and despite his protest, everyone agrees. The raven frowns at the unanimous decision as he reluctantly agrees. He takes a few steps closer to his lovely bluenette, making her blush a little bit as she finally realizes what she just did during her performance.
She was sailing through the height of her feelings and confessed to the man she loves on stage. It was subtle, soft and gentle enough that no one notices. But Gray? He saw it all…
His friends all take the cues and leave the love birds alone, with Loke playfully winking at them and earning himself a smack on the head from Gajeel.
"That was a beautiful performance…" he speaks up "You were amazing."
"Thank you, Gray-sama…"
She holds the violin case to her heart, a smile appears on her lips. Despite the embarrassment, the bluenette feels so peaceful around him. It is because of his kind words? Or because she's still calming herself down after a spectacular performance? Or maybe the rain is washing away her worries and fears? Juvia doesn't know…
Gray's eyes are still on her, observing. He reaches out his hand, caressing her cheeks, feeling the soft wavy locks of hair tickle his skin. The bluenette looks up, her sapphire eyes shine brightly. The soft blush on her cheeks, how warm her skin feels on his, how she looks at him with nothing but love and affection.
"Gray-sama…?" she speaks up, her voice soft and sweet.
"Juvia…" he soften his gaze on her, a chuckle escapes his lips "You beat me…"
"Beat you? In what?"
"I thought that I will be the first one to say it… Oh well…" he smiles, bringing her face closer as their forehead touch "I love you too…"
Juvia doesn't know what happened, but she feels time just stop. Her eyes open widely, her face heats up, tears gathering at the corner of her eyes. She can't believe it… Her Gray-sama, her beloved Gray-sama just said that he…
"I love you a whole lot, sweet sweet Juvia."
She covers her mouth with her hands, stopping the gasp from escaping her lips. Her vision becomes hazy, and yet, here he is. Gray is right in front of her, the kind and handsome man that she has ever loved. His confession is soft and gentle, like someone is pouring honey into her ears. Like a never-ending dream that she refuses to wake up from.
"Please…say it again…J-Juvia wants to hear it again…"
"I love you…" he kisses her forehead "I love you a lot…"
With each confession, he moves his lips down to her nose, her cheeks and just inches away from her lips. His arms are around her, pulling the girl closer, locking the bluenette in his embrace.
"Juvia… Juvia loves you too, she loves you a whole lot…" she cries "She loves you so so much…"
Gray smiles, reaching his hand up to wipe away the tears. He leans in and captures her lips with his. Unlike their previous kisses, this one is slow and gentle, like a butterfly flickering its wings as it lands softly on her lips. He holds her closer, feeling the softness of her lips, savoring the sweet honey taste.
He pulls away a little, looking at the bluenette's flustered face as he leans in again, feeling the tight grasp on his shirt. His heart is swelling, bursting with colors and fireworks. There's a small blush on his cheek, his heart is beating faster, and the thumping sound keeps getting louder and louder. But Gray doesn't care, his lips are still on hers, enjoying every second of it.
When he finally pulls away, Juvia unconsciously snuggles up against him, hiding her face from his eyes. It's embarrassing and yet, she can't help the bubbly feeling inside of her. The redness on her face turns darker when she can hear his heartbeat thumping loudly. Juvia is proud of herself, she is the only one who can make him feel this way.
"Shall we go? They're probably waiting for us."
"Mmhmm…"
They break away and Gray holds onto her hand tightly as they walk to their friend group. The first thing that welcomes them is the cheering and whistle sound. Some giggles and laughs. Loke teases them for finally admitting their feelings to one another. Gajeel is ready to whack his friend again. The girls are squealing in excitement. Lyon and Erza give him a knowing smile. Jellal has a complex look on his face as he sighs, accepting that his little sister is now in a relationship with someone she loves.
As much as Gray wants to tear down the cheering and teasing from Loke, the smile on Juvia's face stops him. Today is definitely a special day for her.
Today, she performs with her beloved Jellal-nii…
Today, her father finally claps at their performance…
Today, her beloved Gray-sama confessed to her…
Juvia smiles to herself, she looks at all the friends she has, feeling so grateful to have them by her side. The rain has died down and the rainbow is revealing itself behind the clouds. The bluenette looks at the beautiful rainbow color before turning her attention to the man right by her side. The man that has been on this journey with her, who has saved her countless times, who has always been right by her side.
This man…
Her beloved Gray-sama…
"Juvia loves you… Thank you, for always being by her side…"
Her lips curl up, revealing the most beautiful smile. So soft and pretty, it paints a ray of sunshine on her face, the smile that he has sworn to protect at all costs.
"I love you too." he holds up their intertwining hands, kissing her knuckles gently "I love you too, my sweet sweet Juvia."
