Max and his dad Goofy were once again at the Spoonerville Soup Kitchen. They went there to volunteer to help the very poor and homeless people of Spoonerville and give them the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. They had been volunteering there for every Thanksgiving since they moved to Spoonerville and they always did the same job. Max would put the food and the drinks on the trays for Goofy to go and serve it to the customers… clumsily.

"Dad, you're supposed to put the trays on the table or in the customer's hands, not on top of their heads!" Max snapped.

"I know, son," Goofy said, "but it's just another way of spreading Thanksgiving joy."

Max was totally confused. "What – that doesn't make any sense. How is that –" But Goofy was already gone with the next order, so he decided to just focus on with his job.

Max always did feel good for doing his bit to help the poor people and homeless of Spoonerville celebrate Thanksgiving; the only thing he struggled with doing it was his dad's goofy clumsiness, even though he knew deep down he always meant well and he was trying to help spread the true meaning of Thanksgiving like him and the other volunteers.

There were many things that motivated Max to continue to help the poor and homeless on Spoonerville, such as when Goofy encouraged him to help those even less fortunate than they were and how he would feel better for doing on the first day they did it, the many compliments he would get from the other volunteers and the customers, how he was a better person for doing this than the popular bullies at school among many things, but nothing motivated him to carry on doing this good day on this very special day was when Roxanne learned he did it and how much she would praise him for his generosity when he would tell her about it the day after. She would have loved to have helped him and Goofy, but her daddy was that overprotective of her that he couldn't even allow her to give up some of her free time either before or after their own Thanksgiving dinner to help those in need or even go to see Max volunteering there or spend any time at his house. Max always proved to Roxanne that he did it every year by showing her a photo of him and the other volunteers. Even though she wasn't here, Roxanne motivated Max to carry on in that Thanksgiving card she sent him earlier after he wrote to her a Thanksgiving card before. He remembered writing in his card to her that he and his dad was going to volunteer at the soup kitchen for Thanksgiving again and in her card to him she wrote again her admiration for him and Goofy for doing so.

"Hi, Max!"

Max looked ahead and saw who came to see him. "Wow, Lisa! What a pleasant surprise!"

"Do you and your friends need help?" Lisa asked.

"Yeah," Max said. "On a day like this, we need all the help we can get, but let me just check with the boss first. Wait here." Then he went into the kitchen.

Lisa didn't have very long to wait. It was only two minutes before the boss came. He was so grateful that Lisa was offering to help them that he gave her Goofy's job and became the waitress herself while Goofy got a brand new job of helping the kitchen staff by washing and drying, though he was really no better than that. He was actually making everything dirtier than cleaner and even breaking some of the stuff. Lisa, on the other hand, who had never volunteered at a homeless shelter ever in her life, let alone on a very important and busy day like today, was doing very well. Then Max remembered that she was a paid waitress in the café at Spoonerville Zoo and that must be why she was doing it very well and for free.

Sometime later, Max and Lisa were on their lunch break. They were sitting outside the homeless shelter and were eating some spare food from the shelter.

"This has been the best Thanksgiving service this shelter has ever provided, Lisa," Max said. "And it's all thanks to you and your hard work."

"Thanks, Max," Lisa said. "But I wouldn't have even considered to come here and help you guys if you didn't tell me about it."

Max told Lisa that he and his dad always helped at the homeless shelter every Thanksgiving when she asked what he was going to do on this Thanksgiving in 1997. When he asked her plans for Thanksgiving, she said she had no clue at all. Only today did Max learn from Lisa that her parents were going to celebrate Thanksgiving with their other partners. None of them even invited her to come.

"Probably because I'm nineteen and no longer their little girl," Lisa said sadly.

"Well, my dad and I and everyone at the shelter appreciate you being here and your generous hard work," Max said.

"Thanks. I do feel better for doing it than just sitting at home all on my own."

"So, when are your parents coming back, Lisa?"

"Not until tomorrow," Lisa replied.

"Well, you can stay at our place for the night, if you like," Max said. "After this, my dad and I have our own Thanksgiving dinner to have and we have some special Thanksgiving games to play."

Lisa thought about it. "Well, if you're sure it's not too much trouble…"

"If we couldn't do it, I wouldn't have offered," Max said.

"Thanks, Max," Lisa said, kissing him on the cheek. "I gratefully accept your very generous offer."

Then Max checked his watch. "Sorry, Lisa, but I'm afraid our break is over. We must get back to work."

"Then let's go and continue spreading the joys of Thanksgiving," Lisa said.

Max smiled as he followed her.

After their shift was done, Lisa followed Max and Goofy back to their house. On the way, they stopped in the streets and joined the entire town in seeing the Spoonerville Thanksgiving Parade. Then they went to Goofy's house and have their own Thanksgiving dinner. As they ate their delicious dinner, everyone said this had been the best Thanksgiving they ever had. Goofy said he was very grateful for having Max as a son and his house and all his family and friends and everything in his life, Max said he was very grateful for his dad, his family, his friends, his house and everything in his life and most of all his wonderful girlfriend Lisa and Lisa said she was very grateful for having a wonderful boyfriend like Max and for spending every second she could with him.

Then after the successful dinner, Max, Goofy and Lisa played many games with charades and Pictionary among them. Then Max and Lisa decided to go to bed and they did their most favourite game of all: have naked sex in Max's bed. That was the very thing they were the most thankful for today.
