Lisa's Christmas gift to Max was a mobile phone. And it was the latest model. There was a note from Lisa in the present box when he opened it. It said 'Hi, Max. I got two of these phones as a bargain so I've got one for myself and I've given one to you so we can call and talk to each other on days when we can't see each other. And once again have a Merry Christmas.'

And this new phone was Max's favourite Christmas present this year, though he was grateful for all the presents he got from his dad and his very close friends. He even counted Roxanne's Christmas letter a gift, just like she considered his Christmas letter a gift to her.

Immediately after Max and Goofy finished opening their presents and expressing gratitude for them, Max's phone rang. He answered it and to no surprise it was Lisa. She called him for two reasons. The first one was to check that it worked okay and the second one was to wish him a merry Christmas. He wished her a merry Christmas back. Then they talked about the presents they each got and then both their Christmas dinners were ready so they wished each other another merry Christmas and then they turned their phones off and headed down for their dinners.

Some days later, it was New Year's Eve. Max and Goofy were busy getting ready for the new year 1998 when there was a knock on their house door. It was Lisa and he was delighted that she was wearing the golden necklace he got her for Christmas.

"Hey, Lisa!" Max greeted as he hugged her. "You never cease to amaze me with your pleasant surprises. Come on in."

"Hey, Max," Lisa said, as she came into his house.

"I take it that your parents are spending New Year's Eve with their other partners?" Max asked.

"Yes," Lisa replied sadly.

"Well, come into the sitting room and you can tell me everything about it."

After being settled into the sitting room with hot cocoa and cookies, Lisa began to tell Max everything. It was the one of the most stressful and unhappiest Christmas Days she ever had in her entire life. In fact, she thought it was the very worst one in her entire life. She and her parents didn't even have Christmas dinner with each other or open their presents together. They did all those things alone in their own rooms. Then three days later, they told Lisa that they were going to get divorced after she graduated high school in the summer so they could be with their other partners and they went going to sell the house because Lisa wouldn't need it while she's at college. And as if things couldn't get any worse, the worst thing she heard was that her mother and her father's new girlfriend were pregnant. She was going to have half-siblings. It was all too much for her to take. She sobbed as she told Max everything. After she finished, he hugged her and kissed her tear-fallen cheeks.

"It's okay, Lisa," Max said. "You've still got me. If we can go to college together, I'll be there for you and I'll look after you."

"Thanks, Max. I know I keep saying this, but I really mean it every time I say it. I really don't know how I managed without you before you became my boyfriend and I really don't know what I would do without you."

Then Lisa continued to cry for as Max continued to hug her. About half an hour later, she finally stopped.

"Do you feel better for getting it out of your system, Lisa?" Max asked.

Lisa sniffed and then smiled. "Yeah, I do. Just a little bit, but it's a good start. So, thank you, Max. Thank you for being the supportive person you are. I'm home when I'm with you."

"No problem, Lisa," he said, holding her hands. "Wherever you are, I'll always be there for you." Then he received a kiss on his lips. He did his goofy laugh and she laughed with him too.

"Since your parents are out of town," Max said, "how about you celebrate New Year's Eve with me and my dad? That way you won't be alone tonight."

"Good idea, Max. And that way I can start the new year off with you."

"And that way you can join us in the park," Goofy added.

"Is this one of your New Year's Eve traditions?" Lisa asked.

"Yeah, it is," Max replied. "Grab your coat and whatever you need. I'll explain everything on the way as it's quite a long story."

Two minutes later, Max, Lisa and Goofy were out of the house and walking to Spoonerville Park. On the way, Max explained to Lisa that ever since they came to Spoonerville, they went to the park for the new year's countdown and see the fireworks and sing Auld Lang Syne. They used to do it with Pete and PJ along with Peg and Pistol, but that stopped when Peg and Pistol moved away and only Goofy and Max continued by themselves. Max once invited PJ to come but his dad always had other plans for the both of them every New Year's Eve. He did try to invite Roxanne out to join him and Goofy for the countdown in the park, but of course her daddy wouldn't let her. But Max bravely knocked on the door of the house to wish Roxanne and her daddy a Happy New Year. Of course, Marcus never wished him a Happy New Year back, but Roxanne always appreciated it that he did and she wished him a Happy New Year and a kiss for it as well before he went to join Goofy in the park.

Max, Lisa and Goofy arrived in Spoonerville Park at eleven forty-five. They only had to wait fifteen minutes along with the rest of the people as they waited for the countdown. They all saw the clock tower from the town hall and used it to count to midnight.

"Oh, boy!" Goofy cried. "Only fifteen seconds left."

Then everyone started counting down. "Ten… Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Five… Four… Three… Two… One!"

Everyone cheered as 1998 finally arrived.

"Well, Happy New Year, Lisa," Max said.

"Happy New Year, Max," Lisa said.

"Happy New Year, all of you!" Goofy cried, hugging the awkward couple.

Then after everyone sang Auld Lang Syne and saw the firework show, Goofy, Max and Lisa headed back to the boys' house. Everyone was very tired, so they decided to go to bed. But when Max and Lisa went into his bedroom, they didn't go to sleep. Instead, they got naked, with Max wearing only a condom, and had sex. Their very first sex they did in 1998.

The next morning, after they woke up, they did the same thing before they went downstairs to have breakfast.
