Was not expecting this quick turnaround, but Episode 1 is already done! Thanks again to all who submitted characters and I'm looking forward to this journey together. Normally updates will not be this quick, but I wanted to get the intro chapter out as that's the one I usually struggle with the most.
Also can't believe I didn't give credit to the people who submitted! I will do that at the bottom of this chapter. Without further adieu, let's meet the characters!
An image of a still lake was quickly interrupted by an all too familiar raven-haired host with glimmering, pearly white teeth.
"Yo!" Chris McLean greeted the camera. "We're coming at you live from Camp Wawanakwa! Ah it feels good to say that again!"
Chris began walking down the infamous dock of shame, "That's right folks, we're back where it all started! And thanks to lawyers it is not radioactive this time. I know, I'm disappointed too."
Chris reached the end of the dock, "Twenty-four campers have somehow been roped into the biggest season of Total Drama ever! It's been some time since we were on the air so to keep things fresh we're bringing in an entirely new cast of teens for me to torture, er, I mean, host a perfectly safe reality show for!"
There was a huge crash and the subsequent sound of metal grinding somewhere inland. Chris blinked at the camera, "Don't mind that, that's for our first challenge! But we're getting ahead of ourselves. We need to meet the cast for this entirely safe season. Who's going to win? Who's going to lose? Will anyone reach the iconic status of some of our OG contestants? More importantly, will anyone be able to keep the viewer's attention more than me? We all know the answer to that question. But find out here on Total Drama Revamp!"
~Theme Song~
Chris reappeared at the side of the dock nearest the campground. Behind him, the camera temporarily focused on the campsite, panning between five buildings. The first three, all nearest the lake, were cruddy cabins that may very well have been put back together from the damaged wood of the old cabins. In the middle sat the dining hall, and on the far side lay the communal washroom. There was also a small outhouse confessional rotting alongside the washroom. Its door opened and a bear walked out carrying a newspaper. The camera zoomed in to read the headline, "Chris McLean: Washed Up or Just Crazy?".
The cameraman snickered before pivoting back to Chris.
"Let's get this party started! Up first we have local Canadian boy Horace!"
A boat pulled up with an average sized boy wearing a simple green tee and khaki shorts. His curly brown hair rustled about the breeze, and he seemed to enjoy the way the wind kissed his freshly shaven face. He had a bronze chain dangling from his neck with a pocket watch tucked inside his shirt.
Horace stepped off the dock and stared at Chris, "Woah, you look so much older now."
Chris didn't stop smiling, but his left eye twitched, "Whatever do you mean?"
"Oh nothing," Horace said quickly and moved to the end of the dock. "I'm the first one here, huh? That's awesome! Really looking forward to this."
"An optimist, eh? Nothing a little pain and starvation won't solve," Chris muttered before looking up. "And here comes out second contestant: Caleb!"
"It's Hoodie!" the boy called back. He had shoulder length purple hair that hung down on one side, while shaved on the other. The purple theme continued with an unzipped purple hoodie covering a plain white t-shirt. He looked skinny and pale, but he frowned as he reached Chris.
"Hoodie? For your…hoodie?" Chris did not look impressed.
"Yeah, what of it?" Hoodie crossed his arms.
"Hey, I think it's cool," Horace offered, but Hoodie hardly seemed to notice him. He was too busy glowering at Chris.
"Just go stand and make friends, we have twenty-two more intros to get through," Chris whined.
Hoodie did as he was bid, though he shot Chris one last look of contempt before standing beside Horace.
The third contestant arrived, being the first female islander. She was skinny and short, with disheveled dark bangs hanging down over her forehead and slightly into her eyes. She wore a strapless black dress and a pretty gold necklace with a dragon around her neck.
"This is Olivia!" Chris announced.
"Hi," Olivia squeaked as she glanced at the two boys.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Horace! I really like your dragon necklace."
Olivia gave him a weak smile, "Thanks, I really like your…is that a pocket watch?"
"Neat huh?" Horace grinned, giving it a look. "I got a couple other trinkets and stuff I can show you."
"Mhm," Olivia gave a noncommittal hum and moved to stand on the far edge of the dock, slightly away from the others.
The fourth contestant arrived, this one another girl. She had light brown skin and stood at nearly six feet tall. Most of her was covered by a brown, sleeveless dress, though the other contestants could see that she was barefoot. She wore colorful beaded bracelets along her wrists and ankles, and had a bright green headband to keep her bangs from her eyes.
"Everyone meet Claudia!" Chris exclaimed.
Hoodie eyed her for a moment and said, "You have paint on your dress."
"Do I? It's hard to tell for me sometimes," Claudia admitted with a light giggle.
"Probably because you look like someone threw up a rainbow all over you," Hoodie muttered to himself.
"Hmm? Sorry I couldn't quite hear you," Claudia said innocently before glancing at Olivia. "Pretty dragon necklace. Some say you can learn a lot about a person by their accessories."
Olivia gave a tight smile but elected not to say anything as the next camper arrived.
The dock creaked under the next boy's weight as he walked. He was a big-bodied teen standing at 6'5'' and packing some serious muscle. He wore a purple, sleeveless hoodie to contrast his mahogany brown skin. He sported matching purple, fingerless gloves with a baby blue half-moon in the center on each.
"Hey guys! I'm Kamari!" The newbie greeted the others and his silver eyes lit up when he saw Hoodie. "Dude, nice jacket! We're totally matching!"
Hoodie allowed himself a genuine smile, "It's nice to see someone else with impeccable taste in fashion."
Kamari gave Hoodie a friendly punch in the shoulder, but the force behind it sent the latter sprawling onto the ground.
"Oops, sorry 'bout that!" Kamari offered a hand to help him back to his feet.
"No…problem," Hoodie huffed as he accepted the help. He didn't seem to notice Kamari smile when their hands touched.
The sixth contestant arrived, though she had to be assisted off the boat by the driver. She wore a lime green trench coat and dark sunglasses tucked in her short, black hair. The boat driver handed her a small poster that she tucked under her arm.
"This is Laura everyone! In case you couldn't tell, she's blind," Chris declared with a grin.
Laura approached Chris, following the sound of his voice. She shoved the poster into his hands and casually walked away, bumping into Claudia. Chris unfurled the poster which read, "Blind girl walking. Deal with it."
Claudia grabbed onto Laura's arm to prevent her from falling and smiled, "Welcome to the island! I hope we can be good friends!"
"Is everyone here wearing purple or green?" Kamari asked, glancing around.
"Yeah, I think so," Hoodie looked around at everyone. Olivia, wearing only black, looked down at her outfit, back at the others, and kept her tongue-in-cheek.
"Uh Chris? Not trying to sound insensitive here, but will Laura have helpers during challenges?" Horace asked the host.
Chris looked at him and started laughing hysterically, "Me? Offer help to contestants? Have you ever seen this show before?"
"No, I haven't," Laura said deadpan. It took a second for most of them to realize what she said, and they shared a few laughs. Kamari was the only one who didn't seem to get the joke.
"You still didn't answer the question," Horace crossed his arms as he looked at Chris.
"Laura will receive whatever help I deem necessary. If I feel like it!" Chris snapped.
"It's fine," Laura exclaimed, turning in the vague direction she'd heard Horace's voice. "You seem like you have genuine concern but relax. I didn't come here to be pitied."
"I don't doubt that," Claudia said, smiling. She released her cautionary hold on Laura's arm, which seemed to satisfy the blind girl for the moment.
The campers turned at the sound of the approaching boat carrying a slim boy with auburn-colored hair styled in a messy crew cut. He had a long, pointed nose that cast a slight shadow over his heavily freckled face. He sported a faded yellow sweater vest over a long-sleeved white dress shirt. He was carrying a notepad and pen that he took out and began taking note of some things.
"TDR Entry 1-1: Island looks barely habitable. Chris looks a lot older now. I'm the seventh contestant to arrive. Seven's a lucky number, right [1]?"
"I am not old!" Chris stamped his foot in frustration.
Kamari grinned at the newcomer, "What's your name, man?"
The new boy blinked at Kamari and scribbled some notes, "I've made contact with one of the other campers. My goodness he's a large human being. Seems friendly enough."
He clicked off his pen and cleared his throat awkwardly, "Name's Declan. You?"
"I'm Kamari!"
"Interesting name. Is that Kenyan in origin?" Declan asked.
Kamari blinked in surprise, "Yeah, how did you know that?"
Declan shrugged, "I write and log all my experiences. To expand my horizons, I have to get at least somewhat familiar with different languages, dialects—"
"Okay we've all met nerdy journalist, time to meet our next contestant: Saffron!" Chris announced, shooting Declan a glare. Declan gulped.
Saffron was a tall, thin girl with high cheek bones and a delicately angled face. She kept her brown hair in a messy bun to keep it from dangling over her beautiful green eyes. She wore a simple MCR t-shirt and pale blue jeans. She took a pair of forest green glasses out of its case and put them over her matching eyes.
"Saffron, welcome to the island!" Chris gestured at the 'glorious' campground.
"So you mean we won't be partying at some popular cheerleader's house and instead living life a bit…rugged?" Saffron asked, displaying a British accent.
"That's right," Chris smiled maliciously.
Saffron tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ear, "Good, I don't want to be like other girls."
"What does that even mean? We're on Total Drama, everyone is unique," Laura scoffed.
"I'm just different," Saffron said rather snootily and gave a disapproving look to the other girls already there.
"Time to see if contestant number nine is as different as Saffron!" Chris said, ignoring the others rolling their eyes.
A slightly muscular boy wearing a purple shirt with a green, ringed planet stepped onto the dock. He had a dark scarf wrapped around his mouth and an obvious scar over his left eye. He kept his eyes downcast and looked like he wanted to fade into the background.
"So, Chuck," Chris greeted, "are you going to be insane like Trent? You know, number nine?"
"Chris is definitely older," Declan told those next to him. "His jokes are weak."
"I'm not like Trent," Chuck said, his voice a bit muffled by the scarf.
"That's good. Trent was such a poser. What would that make you if you were a poser of a poser? A loser, that's what," Saffron said, barely even looking at Chuck.
Chuck looked like he wanted to something in response, but he started to feel a little overwhelmed. He just bowed his head and walked to the end of the dock, where Olivia was standing awkwardly. They shared a quick look but exchanged no words.
"Welcome to Total Drama Revamp!" Chris said, snapping a few people back to attention.
"Uh, we already know what show we're on Chris," Laura said, confused.
"That wasn't me…" Chris trailed off as the next boat arrived.
"That's right, we're back!" The tenth contestant said, sounding exactly like Chris McLean. "Now introducing Casey Desmond, guaranteed to be our newest winner!"
"I sound a lot more manly than that, Casey," Chris grumbled.
"Actually, I thought it was a pretty accurate portrayal," Kamari grinned. Most of the others either nodded in agreement or looked disinterested.
"Whatever, glad to be here," Casey said as she joined the pack. She was thin and wiry with gray, almond-shaped eyes and a light caramel skin tone. She had jet black hair with purple streaks, styled into two long French braids.
"So you're an impressionist?" Declan asked curiously.
Casey shrugged, "I suppose you could call me that. Some might call me an actress."
"Ugh, this is the exact kind of person I don't want to be like," Saffron sneered at Casey. "You're not even trying to be different from the stereotypes you were molded into."
"What's this girl's problem?" Casey jerked a thumb at Saffron.
"Ooh tension! My favorite," Chris laughed as the two girls stared each other down. "But we need to move on! Let's meet Hope! Cause we all need a little hope in our lives."
"I'm with you, dude. Chris has lost his edge on the puns," Horace whispered to Declan.
Hope stepped onto the dock wearing a loose-fitting magenta flower shirt and blue jeans. Her ginger hair was kept in a style similar to Casey's, except she had only one braid. She gave a nervous smile to those already assembled, unconsciously fidgeting.
"Hi everyone," Hope looked around at them all. "Hope we all get to be friends!"
"Did…did you just make a pun out of your own name?" Horace asked.
"Oh," Hope's face turned bright red, "I-I guess I did. Not intentionally though!"
"It was much better than Chris' jokes," Horace grinned and offered her a handshake. Hope accepted it and gave him a warm smile.
"Enough with the bonding and mocking me," Chris complained. "Let's bring in a real competitor: Maverick!"
The next boy somersaulted over the railing on the boat, spinning three times in the air, before sticking the landing right beside Chris. The contestants mostly clapped in appreciation as they took in the new arrival.
Maverick had a runner's body, but he had sizable muscles glistening under the sun in his white tank top. His hair was short and erratic, like a red wildfire with accompanying freckles and piercing blue eyes. He wore a gold medal around his neck, that didn't seem to move during his entire gymnastics routine.
"Greetings!" Maverick said with some enthusiasm. "I'm excited at the opportunity to win!"
"Don't think it'll be that easy. There're twenty-three others who are all trying to win too," Casey pointed out.
"Sure, but I'm practically an Olympic athlete," Maverick boasted. "I'm going to be unstoppable in the challenges!"
"Yes, I imagine you'll do quite well," Hoodie remarked, eyeing the Olympian up and down a few times before giving himself a private, satisfied nod. No one else seemed to notice.
"Halfway through now which means…we still have twelve to go! Kahil, come on down!" Chris said, looking anxious to get moving.
A short, Arabic boy with a boyish face and bright hazel eyes moved to get off the boat, but there was a loose board on the dock. He stepped onto it, causing him to fall straight through and into the water. The others watched for a moment, but he did not resurface.
"Um, is anyone going to help that guy?" Horace asked in alarm.
Chuck looked like he was considering saying something but held himself back. Instead, Maverick sprung into action, hurdling over Saffron, and dove into the water. Seconds later, Kahil came shooting up into the air on the back of a shark, who looked equally as surprised to be there as Kahil. Kahil and the shark made eye contact and then plummeted towards the dock. All the other campers screamed and ran onto the island, except Laura who was staring in the wrong direction. Claudia guided her quickly inland.
Maverick reappeared at the waterline and leapt onto the dock at the same time Kahil and the shark reached it. The latter portion of the dock exploded in a shower of rusty nails and soaked wood. Miraculously, Kahil looked completely unhurt while the shark was groaning in pain. Maverick had jumped into the air to avoid the confrontation, landing beside Kahil and dusting himself off.
"Not even a scratch," Maverick remarked, pleased with himself. He glanced at Kahil, "Same goes for you, impressive!"
"Oh that? Pfft, that kind of stuff happens to me all the time. I just kind of roll with the punches nowadays," Kahil explained.
"Guys that was freaking awesome!" Kamari was the first to come back to the dock and give both of them a high-five.
"I had to make a TV entrance; you know? Play it all up for the cameras. I was never really in danger," Kahil claimed.
The shark, unbeknownst to Kahil, gave the Arabic boy a hateful glare before swimming away for now…
"Chris, maybe we should stay here instead of the dock?" Claudia suggested to the host, who was cowering behind Chuck. Awkwardly, Chuck side-stepped so the others could look at Chris' terrified face.
"Eh, oh!" Chris stood up straight, realizing the attention was on him again. "Yes, I think safety of the host is paramount so we should stay here."
"And the contestants, right?" Hope squeaked with concern.
"Hmm? Oh, sure," Chris said insincerely.
"TDR Entry 1-2: Chris is still as sadistic as he was in Pahkitew Island…" Declan began recording his notes while the next contestant arrived.
It was a slim, athletic girl with a soft face and minor scar on her right cheek. She had simple, straight black hair that reached her shoulders and she sported a black leather jacket over a red crop top. She wore black biker gloves and matching boots. She glanced at the partially destroyed dock and raised an eyebrow.
"I see I missed some fireworks already."
"Kayla, welcome to the island. Come away from the dock in case there are other sharks around," Chris instructed and then turned to Hope. "And you think I don't care about the safety of my campers."
"I bet you twenty bucks he just can't afford a lawsuit," Casey whispered to Hope, who nodded in agreement. Chris' eye twitched when he heard the "L" word.
"Sharks, eh? Too bad I wasn't here, I've karate chopped a shark before," Kayla remarked coolly as she walked to join the crowd.
"Liar," Hoodie laughed. "No one's karate chopped a shark."
"Considering we just saw that guy ride a shark like thirty feet into the air and then land without any injuries, are you really questioning it?" Horace asked with a gesture at Kahil.
"This place is weird," Olivia muttered to herself.
"Yeah, but maybe it won't all be bad," Chuck said, surprising Olivia as she didn't think anyone was listening to her.
The next contestant arrived, being a skinny, short boy with a small peach fuzz mustache above his upper lip. He had a mole on his left cheek, metal-wired dental braces and a pointy noise. His green eyes bulged as he took in his sights and Saffron cringed at the sight of him.
"Ew, he looks like a rat!" Saffron complained.
"You're not going to last long if you keep insulting every contestant," Kahil told her, sounding bored.
"It's not my fault I'm conventionally attractive," Saffron said flippantly.
"Everyone this is Wesley!" Chris gestured at the rat-like boy.
"You can all call me Wes," he said but made no further comment as he took his place in the lineup. A few of the others looked at him, but seemed to sense he didn't seem interested in idle chit chat.
"Alright campers, let's spice things up with our foreign beauty Maddison!" Chris announced and someone let out a wolf whistle as the new girl arrived.
An Italian stunner, Maddie had olive skin and deep blue eyes, with soft velvet lips and high cheekbones. She wore a pink plaid miniskirt and an oversized black shirt that looked far too big for her thin physique. She kept her hazelnut hair in its naturally wavy state, with two hot pink dyed front fringes that reached the end of her neck. She had a camera in her hand, which she used to snap a pic of the campground.
"Had to do that before Chris confiscates it!" Maddie explained with a giggle as she hopped off the boat. "Wow, I can't believe I'm on Total Drama! It's incredible to meet all of you!"
A few of the guys and even some of the girls were staring at her. It was Hope who spoke first, "Glad to have you! Your hair is, like, so pretty!"
"Thanks! So is yours!"
"This sort of conversation makes me nauseous," Saffron fake gagged.
Maddie smiled at Saffron, albeit a little forced, "Sorry, I'm happy to chat with you about something else. What do you like to talk about?"
"Nothing that would interest you," Saffron turned away, clearly annoyed. Maddie looked at the others questioningly, and most of them made various crazy gestures and pointed at Saffron. She shrugged her shoulders and went to stand beside Hope.
"Up next is California kid: Ken!"
The seventeenth cast member arrived, wearing a simple white and blue outfit. He did have one ear pierced around the lobe and a small necklace tucked into his shirt. He looked well-groomed, with styled golden blonde hair that parted both sides in the front. He looked around with big, round green eyes in excitement.
"What's up guys? I'm Ken!"
"Why do you sound like a YouTuber or something?" Casey asked.
"I'm kind of a social media influencer," Ken claimed, puffing his chest with pride.
"Really? Me too!" Maddie exclaimed excitedly. "How do you keep up with the follower demand?"
"Oh, uh, it's not so bad," Ken scratched the back of his head. "You know how it can be though."
"Oh totally! When you have thousands of fans, it gets a little exhausting placating all of them sometimes. Shoutout the Mad Fads [2] though!" Maddie winked at the camera.
"Thousands?" Ken's eyes widened, but Maddie didn't seem to hear him.
"Here, let's take a picture for our followers," Maddie offered and pulled Ken in for a selfie. He looked slightly out of his depth as she posed next to him and snapped the photo.
The next contestant arrived looking fairly intimidating. It was a tall, muscular girl wearing a blank tank top and denim jeans. She had medium length, straight brown hair and black eyes that seemed to dance in a perpetual, cocky smile. She was lugging a rather large bag with her, which she set down on the dock. Predictably, the bag busted right through the board and she was just quick enough to grab it before the bag sank.
"You need to fix your dock, McLean," the new girl pointed out the obvious in a slow, deep voice.
"Thanks, Abigail, for reminding me," Chris said huffily.
"Guess you are kind of lucky huh?" Kahil told Abigail. "When I got off the boat I…you know what never mind. I'm sure it'll be replayed thousands of times on the Aftermath show and what not."
"I don't need luck. I'm going to win this competition with my athletic prowess," Abigail said confidently.
"Look Maverick, someone else for you to be gym bros with," Casey snickered more to herself than anything.
"Mock all you like, but at least she seems like a formidable competitor," Maverick said, sizing up the competition.
The next camper arrived, being another girl. She had a round face with big turquoise eyes and an almost undetectably small nose. Her lips were heart-shaped and painted red, which she used to give a satisfying blown kiss to the camera. Her long, violet hair billowed around in the wind, and the fashionably gray barrette she wore nearly blew away. She was decked out in high leather boots with spikes, and a long-sleeved tank with zebra stripes. Her leather jacket also had spikes on the tops of the shoulders.
"Sick outfit," Kahil complimented as she arrived. "What's your name?"
"Belladonna, or Bea if you prefer," she greeted him, somewhat shyly.
"I, like, so am in love with this look!" Maddie gushed as she snapped another picture.
"Thanks," Bea said, though she did not meet Maddie's gaze. "I'm kind of a fashionista."
"Totally putting you on the spot here, but who has the most fashionable look here?" Maddie grinned deviously.
"Um…" Bea trailed off looking at the other outfit choices of the contestants. "I think I'll need to consider a bit and get back to you."
"Smart girl; don't want to make too many enemies yet," Hoodie nodded approvingly. "Although it's obvious my hoodie is the best."
"Right…" Bea gave him a half-hearted nod before looking away.
The boat returned, this time with one of the older teens. They were Korean, standing around 5'10'' with a wiry and lanky frame. They had short, spiky black hair and dark brown eyes, and looked eager to arrive on the island. They wore a plain, elegant, dark green button-down and gray cargo paints, along with a white sun hat. They had a few bracelets on each wrist, that looked like they'd been made by kids.
"Jay, welcome to the island!" Chris welcomed.
"Thank you," Jay said in a soft-spoken voice. "I must say, this camp is a lot more dangerous looking than the one I work at."
"Please tell me you aren't a CIT," Kayla groaned. "I don't know if I can handle a Courtney type all summer."
Jay laughed, "No, I'm a full-blown counselor. No 'in-training' part, and I'm not really anything like Courtney."
"Where are the old contestants anyway? I'm surprised you didn't try manipulating them into another season," Casey asked Chris.
"Meh, who knows? They could be getting slaughtered by zombies for all I know [3]. But no one cares because I'm the reason everyone tunes in!" Chris boasted.
"He's actually correct," Wes surprisingly spoke up in favor of Chris. "No one quite knows how to do Total Drama like Chris McLean."
"Well said Wes! I like this kid," Chris declared, not noticing Wes' subtle smirk. "Maybe this next contestant will be my real favorite though! It's David 'Chris' Masters [4]! According to the application, he's even from my home: Newfoundland!"
"Great, he's probably a Chris suck-up," Kayla pouted, blowing hair out of her face. She didn't see Wes beside her visibly frown at that.
David arrived on the island decked out in a long-sleeved gray shirt and a simple pair of jeans. He was a bit bigger than most of the contestants and had a square face with comparable stubble to Chris. Unlike Chris, however, he had friendly, inviting blue eyes.
"What's up guys! I'm stoked to be here, dudes!" David hollered as he bounded onto the island. He saw some of the girls and gave a slight bow, "And dudettes, of course."
Claudia smiled at him, "You seem to have an impeccable energy. Like your very soul has been injected with the wild waves and spirits of the ocean."
"Thank you!" David said excitedly, exchanging a fist bump with her.
"Is Chris actually your middle name?" Jay asked David curiously. "If so, I'm very sorry."
"No it isn't, Chris just said that because I accidentally wrote his name originally on my application form," David's face flushed slightly, though he didn't seem to mind when several others laughed at him. "I thought I was supposed to put the host's name there!"
"I wouldn't worry. Chris probably made a mistake. According to some of the fan blogs, some think Chris can't read," Ken said matter-of-factly.
"I don't want the reputation of defending Chris, but who says you have to be able to read to make it in the world?" Abigail asked, looking somewhat uncomfortable.
"Are you saying you can't read?" Saffron asked in disgust. "Reading is what I spend most of my time doing, because I'm quirky!"
"Would anyone care if I knock that girl out?" Abigail asked and no one said a word. Saffron paled and quickly moved to the other side of the cluster, almost knocking Olivia over in the process.
"Oh, sorry, didn't see you there," Saffron didn't even glance to see who she'd collided with. Olivia sighed and stepped into the background.
"I'm all for knocking people out. Whose head needs to roll?" a new female voice called out as the next islander arrived.
She was fit and toned, her muscles clearly defined underneath a white sports jacket and red athletic vest that just exposed her midriff. She had chocolate brown skin, blue eyes and purple makeup all over her face. She wore elegant, pearl earrings that seemed surprisingly delicate for someone who looked so tough.
"That one girl was just being a bit mean," Abigail said, extending a hand in greeting. "I'm Abigail."
"Jackie," the newbie greeted and frowned at Saffron. "Well, I got no time for stuck-up b****es so you just let me know if it happens again."
"You look really strong," Bea murmured. "I'm guessing you workout a lot?"
"Hell yeah I do," Jackie exclaimed, though Bea shrank back slightly. "I'm strong, I'm tough, and I am going to win!"
"I think you spooked here," Jay said with a light chuckle. "She looks like she just saw a ghost."
"Ghost? Where?" A new male voice exclaimed in a high-pitched voice. A large, chubby boy with an orange jumpsuit leapt impossibly high up into the air at the mention of ghosts. The boat had already started to pull away, so the newcomer landed with a painful thud against the side of the dock.
"Oof, guess he didn't have your luck, eh Kahil?" Chris snickered. Kahil crossed his arms while Jackie reached into the water and pulled the new kid out.
"Are you alright?" David asked. "That looked like a nasty wipeout."
"That's because there was a ghost, didn't you hear? The ghost moved the boat away and caused that accident!" The new guy exclaimed, shaking in his boots.
"Um, dude, there's no ghosts," Horace said with a grin.
"AJ just stand over there and stop complaining about…GHOSTS!" Chris suddenly raised his voice, freaking out the teen, who clung anxiously to Hoodie. Disgusted, Hoodie tried to peel himself away from the fraidy cat but was unsuccessful.
"Is it time to get started yet?" Maverick asked impatiently.
"Not quite! We have just one more contestant. Our twenty-fourth competitor is Lin!" Chris announced and everyone looked curious to see who their final opponent would be.
A slim, young-looking girl with unkempt brown hair and round, hazel eyes was the final arrival. Some of the others thought she looked almost doll-like – cute but kind of creepy. She wore a simple dark jacket over a lavender long-sleeve shirt and gray jeans. She gripped the railing of the boat and easily leapt over it and landed on the sandy shores where the rest of the contestants were.
"Impressive. Do you do parkour or something?" Kayla asked Lin.
"If by parkour you mean sprinting away from criminals in alleys, then sure," Lin said, somewhat sarcastically. Some didn't seem to know how to take that, but Kayla gave her an approving nod.
"Alright!" Chris said loudly, gaining the attention of all the campers. "My God there's a lot of you. No matter, we'll be sure to get some of you eliminated soon enough!"
Jackie frowned at him, "I have a feeling I'm not going to like you."
"Aw, thank you Jackie!" Chris grinned. "Anyways, welcome to Camp Wawanakwa! This will be your home for the next 8 weeks or so as you battle it out to win one million dollars!"
That got people excited. Maddie, Belladonna and Ken all cheered together at the prospect, David and Jay fist-bumped, and Hoodie finally got himself unattached from AJ.
"I recommend you all learn a lot about the people surrounding you as they will be your friends, your enemies, your competition. Not everyone is what they seem, especially if those juicy auditions were anything to go by!"
There were a few distrustful looks and uneasiness amidst the campers at that. Chris continued, "We wanted to go for the more iconic season 1 vibe, hence why we're on the island. But not everything will be the way it was in season 1. Some of the rules will be explained a little later, but right now it's time to pick the teams! And unlike TDI, we're taking a page out of World Tour's book and going with 3 teams! So, when I call your name, come stand to my left. Claudia, David, Jay, Kamari, Kayla, Laura, Olivia and Wes!"
The eight of them moved to where Chris had indicated. Chris tossed a flag at Laura, but Claudia, fortunately, caught it before it hit the unsuspecting blind girl. Claudia unfurled the flag and stared at it with her teammates.
"I christen you the Gnarly Narwhals!" Chris exclaimed with glee as the team stared at the illustration of a narwhal partying on a beach.
"That's so…awesome!" David pumped his fist in the air.
"I think you meant to say gnarly," Kayla said with a roll of her eyes. "What kind of team name is this Chris?"
"The next eight will be the second team!" Chris said, completely ignoring Kayla. "Abigail, AJ, Casey, Hoodie, Hope, Horace, Kahil and Lin!"
The next batch of eight moved to stand directly in front of Chris. He handed the flag to AJ who showed his teammates.
"You guys shall be known as the Sly Foxes!"
Their flag showed a bright red fox hiding in some dark shrubbery. Most of the members of the team looked pretty satisfied with their team's name and exchanged approving looks with other teammates.
"Last but not least, the final team! Belladonna, Chuck, Declan, Ken, Jackie, Maddie, Maverick and Saffron!"
The remaining eight stood on Chris' right. Chris tossed the last flag to Chuck.
"Team 3 will be the Self-Absorbed Sponges!"
Chuck cringed as he saw their flag was quite literally just a sponge soaking up everything around it.
"You're kidding, right? That's the worst team name ever!" Ken complained.
"It's not like being called a narwhal is anything to be thrilled about," Laura pointed out.
"You're all free to use our wonderful outhouse confessional to share your innermost thoughts and feelings," Chris said smugly.
Confessional (First of the season!):
Ken: I am not self-absorbed just because I'm an influencer!
Maddie: I am not self-absorbed just because I'm an influencer!
Saffron: I'm just not like other girls.
Jackie: Yeah…I think Chris pegged our team right, unfortunately.
~End Confessional~
"Hopefully that satisfied you. Besides, I think I outdid myself on that last one. Self-absorbed? You know because you're sponges?" The camp was dead silent, except for a cricket chirping from the windowsill of the nearest cabin.
"TDR Entry 1-3: Chris has definitely lost it…" Declan recorded and everyone else immediately laughed at the host's expense. Declan blushed but looked rather proud of himself.
"Laugh it up now, because very soon I'll be the one laughing at all of you!" Chris recovered fairly well as he now addressed the camera. "Tune in next time for the continuation of day 1 here on Total Drama Revamp when we jump into our first challenge! No time for unpacking because 1 of you will be leaving us tonight!"
So there it is! Still not going to reveal any stereotypes but you can start piecing together what the characters are like. Let me know what you think of Episode 1! Who's going to be the first boot? Who's going all the way? What do you think of the teams and team names?

Footnotes:
[1] An easter egg for my other story. Undead Drama Chapter 12, anyone?
[2] "Mad Fads" was not something in Maddie's application but it popped into my head as what she might call her fans.
[3] An absolutely shameless plug for Undead Drama lol I didn't even try to veil this one
[4] Decided to make accidentally naming the character Chris the first time a recurring gag haha
