Chp 16: Make us Whole...
"Person or creature speaking."
'Person or creature thinking.'
The droning hums of bullhead engines grated on the ears of those waiting to board. Families checked bags and suitcases, parents keeping eyes on their children as they play. One family was standing away from the other group, blonde hair shining in the early morning sun. The oldest of the group was fretting over some bags next to them. The oldest was a female, middle aged with long blonde hair tied into a ponytail. She had a loose fitting sundress with a small jackets covering her upper torso, its dark tan clashing with the yellow of her dress. She had some simple sandals covering her feet, blue eyes darting through the contents of one colorful backpack.
Next to her was a set of twins, blonde hair matching hers. One was a young boy, dressed in a simple pair of tan shorts with a bright blue t-shirt. His hair was wild and unkept, blue eyes bright with joy, a small amount of fear, and nervousness. His twin next to him was a girl, dressed much the same but her hair being longer and pulled into pig tails. She was nervous, looking around and avoiding eye contact. The final member of the family was a taller blonde woman, gazing at her family with fondness. She was dressed in what appeared to be a modern rendition of knight armor. Smooth ceramic plating inter mashed with polished metal plates, the woman stretching lightly as the armor moves with her stretch. She had a large pack thrown over her shoulder, the butt of a rifle seen sticking out of the pack. Green eyes flicker down to the younger members of the family.
"Mom.." The tall woman groans out, putting down the pack. She moved forward, her armor clinking. "You've been through Jaunes pack 10 times. You've checked our flight path 8 times, and then preceded to have a small breakdown every 3rd check. We're going to be fine." The older woman checking the bags stands up, turning around. She had a frown on her face, leaning forward and lifting a finger to the younger womans face. "Jasmine Arc! I am your mother and I'll check anything of yours until the day I die! Especially since you're taking ma Stomper away from me for a weekend!" The now named blonde woman winces, raising her hands in a plactating measure. The boy twin blushes brightly, stomping his foot. "Mom! Don't call me that in public!" The woman spins around and grabs the boy in a hug.
"OHHHH! My little Jaune is growing up! To think he used to hide in my dress and stomp when nervous! Now he's leaving his poor mother for a weekend to enjoy a...a...what was it you two are going to again?" Jasmine sighs, bringing out a pair of tickets.
"We're going to an anime/game convention mom...Jaunes been waiting for months for it and I can meet my team while there. Brothers knows Topaz is going to be at the the convention..." The boy twin, now identified as Jaune, beams in happiness from his mothers hug. "Aunt Topo is going to be there?!" Jasmine gives a small nod. "I'd bet my entire bank account that she's going to be there. That and I'm pretty sure that she's going to be watching that...'Little knight academy'?" Jaune lets out a gasp, quickly untangling himself from their mothers hug and darting to his older sisters side. "She's a fan of LKA too?!" Jasmine nods, Jaune letting out an excited squeal and running to his twin. "Joan! Joan! Why don't you want to come?! Didn't you hear?!" His twin grumbles something not heard by Jasmine of their mother.
"I still don't know why you have to leave today.." Jasmine rolls her eyes. "We're leaving today because it's a 16 hour flight! We'd be leaving tomorrow but there's a storm system wreaking havok between us and Vale! We're having to go further north to avoid it and be able to make it by tonight!" Their mother frowns. "And the Grimm?" Jasmine sighs. "There are no reported Grimm migrations in our flight path. We're stopping at multiple smaller towns for refueling as we go. We're taking a well known and well used route, so we'll be within hailing range of all nearby settlements. We'll be fine mom!" Jasmine sighs when their mother nods hesitantly and sighs. The 2 of them stand in silence, Jasmine breaking it with.
"Let me guess...Dads training Joan?" Jasmines comment makes their mother frown, giving a tired sigh. "Jasmine..." The voice of her mother makes Jasmine growl, leaning forward so that her voice wasn't heard. "Don't give me that 'Jasmine' bullshit! So what if Jaune sucks at the Arc family style? More than one Arc used different fighting styles! More than one was trained by different teachers with varying styles! Dad not wanting to train Jaune because he's shit with the Arc style is bullshit! You know it. I know it. The others know it and before long, one of us is going to do something about it!"
The quiet anger in her voice made their mother glare, eyes glowing slightly.
"You know your fathers stance on this! Unless Jaune can show any aptitude for combat, he won't train him. Joan shows promise!" Jasmine growls out, stopping when Jaune runs over to them. "Mom! Did dad give you anything for me?" The older woman blinks, she and Jasmine glancing at each other. An argument for later it seems...
"Yes sweetie, he did leave something for you. He said something about a deal he made with you?" Jaune beams in happiness, nodding his head. "Yep yep! Dad said 'if I bring my grades up from Cs to Bs, he'd give me some extra money for the convention'. I brought them all up!" Jasmine chuckles, rubbing the top of Jaunes head. "So there's a brain in there after all!" Jaune groans a little, Joan giving a small giggle from behind them. Their mother smiles, reaching into her pocket and pulling out some colorful chips.
"That you did my little stomper. Here's the money the 2 of you agreed on. Enjoy it." Jaune grabs its, eyes widening at the amount. "Woah! I can buy so many games with this! Or comics! Or action figures! Thanks dad!" With that, he races to his bag; stuffing the chips into his front pouch. Jasmine sighs at that, the family perking up when the bullhead lets out a long bellowing horn. The intercom nearest to them blares to life.
"Now boarding passengers for Vale City. Now boarding for Vale City. Please grab any and all bags and report to your assigned seats. A host or hostess shall assist you with seating. Thank you for choosing Vale Air.. Now boarding..."
The intercom continued to repeat the message, Jasmine grunting lightly. "That's our cue. Jaune! Grab your bag and say 'bye' to Ma! We're boarding." The young boy gives an excited nod, racing to give his twin a hug and then racing to his mother. "Bye Joan! Bye Mom! We'll call when we get there! Tell the others 'bye' for me!" Their mother chuckles.
"Of course sweetie. Have a good time." He nods, racing to his bag and picking it up. Jasmine gives a nod to their mother, the older woman handing her a small blue chip. Jasmine looks at it, raising an eyebrow. "This is a debit card. It's got 10,00 lien on it. Just in case of emergencies, right?" Jasmine stares at the card, nodding and grabbing the card. "Thanks..." With that, she joins Jaune, grabbing his hand and walking over to an awaiting host. With a quick flash of her scroll, they're allowed entrance to the bullhead.
Joan watches the bullhead rise into the air with a final bellow, a nervousness appearing in her mind. "Mom? Are they going to be okay?" The older woman nods. "Your elder sister would rather lose an arm than have anything have happen to Jaune. They'll be fine." She'd come to regret her words later...
Couple hours later
Jasmine stretches her arms, armor clinking a little with the action. The few familes around them give her a glance, most looking away when she'd give a quick glare. Jaune was next to her, playing a small game on her scroll. "You doing okay?" Her question gets an 'affirmative' head nod for Jaune, Jasmine shaking her head. 'He'll be out within the next few hours...'
She's jolted out of her thoughts when someone stops next to them. She glances up at the, seeing a set of goggled eyes and covered face staring at her. The figure was wearing a heavy set of ceramic armor, carrying a pump shotgun with them. The armor was tan, covered in small black and brown dots; looking like small rocks. The armored plates held various bags and other things; Jasmine giving a quick glare at the figure. "Can I help you?" Her voice came out as a growl, the figure chuckling. "Woah there! No need for the bite! I heard there was another Hunter on board and wanted to see if it was true."
Jasmine raises an eyebrow at the figure. The voice was male but the armor covered everything else. "Yeah?" Her voice must've made the other figure nervous. "Not here to start a fight. Just wondering if you'd give us a hand." Jasmine eyes narrow a little bit. "Help with what?"
"Ya see...I was born in Vacuo but raised in Vale. Decided to go and see the family back in Vacuo and didn't have enough Lien to get a flight back. Vale Air offered me a free ride if I acted as a guard for them during the flight back to the capital. So here I am..." Jasmine eyes unnarrow, understanding the guys plight. "And what does that have to do with me?"
"'There's another Hunter on board. He's a grouchy old bastard but he's strong. He decided to choose the 1st class section as his own. I got economy class just behind here. Thought I'd ask if you'd be willing to patrol this area for us? And if something does happen...-" Jasmine cuts him off.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah...I'll give you guys a hand while I'm here. If something happens, you can count on me protecting this part. Wouldn't be right of me if I didn't help..." The guy gives an excited nod.
"Alright! With you patrolling this end, it makes my job that much easier! Thanks!" He thrusts out his hand for a handshake, Jasmine staring at it and laughing lightly. She shakes his hand, the guy nodding and walking towards the exit door. "Oh! If ya need anything, go to 1st class! They've got free coffee and food for hunters! I'll let them know you're giving a hand!" He walks through the doors as they open for them, Jasmine grunting a little. She looks back at Jaune, happy that he was still playing on his scroll. "Jaune? Don't go nowhere. I'ma take a quick nap." She hears him give a hum, and leans back. Within a few minutes, she felt sleep take her.
4 hours later. (6 hours of 16 completed)
Jasmine groans slightly, consciousness coming back to her. Her eyes were heavy, a headache pounding behind her eyes. She opens her eyes, leaning forward. "Ugh...How long was I out?" She pulls out her scroll, nearly screaming out on shock. '4 hours?!' The shock wore off, whipping her head to the seat next to her. She sighs in relief when she sees Jaune asleep next to her. He must've dozed off sometime after she did. She looks around, seeing the few families around her still talking or napping. The sun was nearly blinding, Jasmine groaning when it caught her eye. Her ind raced back to...that nightmare...
Racing words...Horrible twisted bodies...Languages she could barely understand...The dead coming back to life...And the mantra...
"Make us whole? What does that even mean?" The bullhead is jostled by a heavy dose of turbulence, Jasmine standing up and reaching above their seats. She opens the compartment, smiling when she sees her rifle still there. She grabs it, and pulls it out. With a quick check of its functions, she ejects the magazine and looks at the rounds. Standard FMJ rifle rounds, caliber .30 and 30 of them to boot. She inserts the magazine, pulling the charging handle to the rear and letting it go. She smiles when a round is picked up and fed into the chamber. She engages the safety, slinging it around her shoulder. She checks Jaune before she left, nodding when he looked alright. She never saw the red sheen roll over him as a sunbeam illuminated his body.
She sees a flight attendant, pulling the smaller woman aside. "Hey? Can I ask that you keep an eye on my younger brother for a bit? I'm heading to 1st class for some coffee and a snack." The woman blinks, balking at Jasmine and her armor. She looks past Jasmine and sees the sleeping Jaune, nodding in acceptance. "Sure. I'm getting ready to serve snacks in 2nd class anyway..." Jasmine gives a smile in gratitude, moving past the attendant and entering 1st class. A few of the people glance at her, most simply letting her pass when they see the rifle and armor. She reaches the end of the the walkway, seeing the door that'd let her enter the breakroom for the attendants. She pushes the button next to it, smiling when the door opened.
She's greeted by the heavenly smell of coffee, raising an eyebrow at the other 2 in the room. She recognized the one in tan armor, his goggles and face mask removed to reveal a youthful face and brown eyes. He had a happy smile as he sipped on a small soda, short hair spiky and untamed. He sees her, smiling and waving. "Hey there! How was your nap? I swear you snore louder than a roaring Ursa!" He quickly pales when Jasmine growls and flares her aura.
"Hmmm...Seems as if said Ursa is more than willing to show you her bite..." Jasmine turns to the new voice, staring into the wizened face of an older Mistralian man. He had long grey hair, the age touched hair pulled into a ponytail. He was wearing a simple pair of long pants and gown, the color a deep white and seemingly very thin. He looked like... "You sure you're not some age old master from an anime by the name of..." She's cut off when a fork is buried into the metal next to her head, the mans steel colored eyes glaring fire at her. "...Nevermind..." She mutters. "Where;s the coffee?"
The younger Hunter points to the corner, Jasmine walking over and quickly pouring herself a cup. She sips it, sighing in relief when the warm liquid rejuvenates her. Her sigh makes the younger Hunter laugh. "Pretty good huh? Vale Air definitely didn't skimp on the drinks. Nor the food! Grab yourself some snacks from the pantry. Bet'cha they're leagues better than what their giving out to the passengers. Grab some for your boy as well."
Jasmines mind screechs to a halt, turning to the guy. "My boy?" She questions, honestly confused. He blinks in surprise, tilting his head. "Yeah? Your son? You know...the 2 of you really favor each other! Especially when your asleep!" Jasmine feels another headache come on, groaning out. "He's not my son! He's my younger brother!" The guy blinks.
"Oh...Really?"
"Yes!"
He just blinks again. "Ohhhh...My bad then. Either way. Grab some for the kid. He'll probably be hungry after he wakes up." Jasmine just gives him a glare, the guy nervously laughing. The older Hunter just grunts, continuing to snack on his bag of crackers. She reaches into the pantry, grabbing a handfull of small snacks and sticking them in her pockets. She closes the pantry door, and turns around. The 3 Hunters continue sipping their drinks or snacking in silence, Jasmine speaking up. "Jasmine. Jasmine Arc." The other guy blinks, the older Hunter grunting a little. "Ryu Silver." Jasmine gives Ryu a head nod, the older man giving her one in return. The other Hunter blinks in realization, giving a grin. "Damien. Damien Stone. Nice to meet'cha Jazz." She gives him a small glare, Damien putting his hands up in surrender.
"Hey?" Damien speaks up, voice aimeds towards Jasmine. "Does your brother have his aura unlocked?" The question throws Jasmine for a loop. "No. Why?" Her answer makes Damien scratch the back of his head. "Really? I was sure he was-" He's cut off when the bullhead sharply tilts to the left, Damien and Jasmine letting out a curse. The bullhead corrects itself quickly, the intercom coming to life.
"Apologies dear passengers but we're receiving some heavy wind from the storm hitting just east of us. It should calm down once we enter the Araulien mountains. We apologize for any issues this will cause. Please remain calm."
"Shit!" Jasmine curses when her coffee spilled over her hands; more annoyed that she spilled it then it getting on her armor. "Damn...That storm must be pretty strong if it's tail winds are this strong this many miles from it's epicenter." Ryu nods, eyes closed. A few minutes pass, the wind outside howling against the bullhead. Jasmine tilts her head in confusion when Ryu stands to his feet, drawing a long thin sword out from under his long billowy clothes. "Prepare yourselves..." Damien blinks and stares at the older man. "What do you mean-..."
The bullhead is rocked again by a large gust of wind but this time an alarm activated and blared its song. The lights above them flashed a deep ominous red, the wind joined by the horrid sound of screeching. Jasmine had her rifle in hand by the time the first screech sounded, cursing. "Son of a bitch!" She and Damien rush out of the breakroom, Ryu following with a simple walk. They enter the 1st class seats, looking out the nearest window.
Flashes of black flesh pass by the window, Jasmine watching Grimm erupt from the forest below them. "Grimm!" The passengers were starting to panic as the bullhead dodged and weaved the flying monstrosities, Ryu walking past them and towards a door. "Nevermores and Griffons!" Jasmine lets out a hiss, readying her rifle. "Did we pass over a nest?!" Damien shakes his head. "Not that I know of!"
"Are the automated defense even on?!" Jasmines yell is accompanied by some teeth cracking explosions coming from all around them. She glances out the nearest window, seeing super heated beams of dust impacting the approaching horde. "They'll focus on the larger grimm! We need to take out the ones too small for it to target! I'll take the rear balconies!" Damien rushes past her, shotgun pulled up and ready. Jasmine growls, darting to the nearest exit to the 1st and 2nd class balconies. "I got the ones here! Old man?" Ryu gives a grunt, stepping out into the roaring wind.
"I'll take the roof." With a small flare of his aura, he disappears from view. Jasmine sees the dissolving bisected corpses of grimm float down from above her, Jasmine snarling to herself. "Alright you grimm fucks! I'm not letting you take this bullhead down with my baby brother in it!" She kicks the door open, the wind whipping her hair around. The first darting black figure is greeted by .30 cal rounds, evaporating black blood splattering her. The screeches of grimm grate her ears, every one that got close either evaporated by the dust turrets or her own shots. She growls a little when one particularly stubborn Nevermore gets close enough to bare its claws at her. She reaches behind her, swinging something when the Nevermore was close. It screech was turned into a squawk when a hatchet is buried into its skull then ripped out. It starts to fade, Jasmine returning her hatchet to her back.
Over the sound of the wind, she hears the tell tale 'booms' of what she could only assume was Damiens shotgun. Her answer comes when one griffon flies near her, flesh alite with fire and large holes in its body. She smirks evilly and watches it tumble into a few more, the fire spreading from black flesh to black flesh. She sees a few of the larger grimm dodge the dust turrets only to be cut in half by some invisible force. "Damn...That old man is pretty good..."
She nods to herself and continues fighting, mind worried over how was her brother taking this?
With Damien
With a firm pull of his shotguns trigger, he watches the incendiary pellets impact a passing Griffon. He racks another round, unleashing another volley of flaming pellets; taking a breath when the turrets above him start up and begin shooting. He waits for a inute, breathing a sigh of relief when he feel the bullhead slowly pick up some speed, the engines near him growing louder. "Good...The pilots finally decided to kick this thing in overdrive."
He starts checking his pockets and armor for how many shells he had. He wasn't particularly thrilled with the humber... "Shit...I didn't bring enough shells for this..." With a growl, he renters the bullhead, passengers panicking around him. "Hey! Calm down! You're just attracting the Grimm more. The passengers ignore him, most huddling next to each other; heads down and shying away from the windows. "Crap..." He mumbles, moving past them. "Just...just keep your head down! Everythings going to be okay!" The second he says that, a large claw rips through the hull. It catches an older man in the shoulder, blood splattering those around him as he screams in pain. A few of the calmer individuals move to help the older man, Damien finally getting past the panicked crowd.
He opens the door, a few of the passengers pushing past him and into the 2nd class section. "Oi! Everybody!" His yells makes those panicking look at him. "Everybody move to the 2nd class section! It'll be easier to defend with 2 hunters versus 1 for each. It's going to be crowded so leave your shit behind and help those behind you!" He moves away from the door, grunting when the crows pushes past him and quickly fills the 2nd class section. As he pushes past them, he catches a small tuft of blonde hair in a seat nearby. It was Jasmines little brother.
"He's still asleep?! How in the-" He's shocked that the younger boy was still sleeping. He bends over to check on him, happy when he hears him still breathing. He looks around, seeing a Faunus mother and her son. "Hey! You 2!" His yell catches the womans attention, crazy eyes meeting his. She had a pair of small round ears atop her head, Damien looking at them closer and likening them to a bear. "You and your boy sit here! Keep an eye on this blonde kid or his sister will blow ours heads off." The woman nods, rushing over and quickly strapping her and her child in. For good measure, she grabs Jasmines brother and straps him in and pulls him against her. Damien nods in 'thanks' moving to the door leading back to the outside.
The door opens, Damien cursing when he's nearly blown from his feet. His aura flashes when a stray feather impacts his shoulder. ""Son of a bitch!"" The 2 voices overlapped, Damien glancing to his immediate right and staring. Jasmine was covered in evaporating Grimm blood, the blonde womans aura rolling off of her in waves. "Come on you fucks! I've got more bullets with your name on 'em!" Damien, seeing a large Nevermore get past the turrets, brings his shotgun to bare and pulls the trigger. The recoil impacts his shoulder, greatly dampened by the rubber pad and his aura. The pellets land true, the Nevermores head erupting into flesh and evaporating blood.
Jasmine whips around to him, face beset with a snarl. "Damien?! The fuck are you doing here?! Go back to the rear of the ship and make sure none of these fucks are behind us!" He ejects the spent shell, racking another one. He starts loading a few shells, yelling back at her. "No need! The pilots finally put this thing in overdrive! We should be able to outfly any grimm that pops up behind us! If we keep this up we should clear the Auralian mountains soon! The pass there is too narrow for any large grimm!" Jasmine nods, reloading her rifle and continuing to shoot. "Good! I'm going inside to check on my brother!" He grabs her shoulder before she could go inside.
"No need! I checked on him when I passed by. He was still asleep! I grabbed a Faunus woman and her kid and had them sit next to him. I think she she strapped him into his seat and is holding onto him!" Jasmine whips her head to him, eyes glowing. She looks through the nearest window, eyes searching the crowded section and landing on a bright head of blonde hair. She lets out a sigh of relief when she sees a woman around her age checking on him, small bear ears twitching as she nervously looked around.
"A bear Faunus? Good choice! If she protects him until this shit is over, I'll put my head between her legs and make her never want a man for the rest of her life!" Damien feels his face darken, mind creating that particular image very quickly. He begins to ask if he could join, the 2 of them whipping around when a heavy 'thump' sounds behind them. They sigh in relief when it was only Ryu, the older mans white clothes covered in grime and dirt. "Children." He greets, Jasmine looking back towards the slowly thinning grimm hoard around them.
"Finally decided to join us, eh old man? Get bored up there slicing the grimm in half?" The older man gives a scoff, shaking his head. "No. We have bigger problems afoot." Damien and Jasmine look at each other and back at him. "What do you mean? We're outflying the larger grimm, the smaller ones ones are easy enough to kill, and the automated defenses are definitely doing work." Ryu jerks his head to the roof, his aura flaring as he bends his knees lightly and jumps back to the roof. Jasmine and Damien look to each other, shrugging and following.
When they land on the roof, Jasmine curses at the high wind. When she on the balcony, it was bad but by the brothers! It was like standing in front of deep freezer with a train load of wind dust being pumped into it! She looks at Damien, seeing him push aura into his feet to act as grip. She grunts, stomping her feet and smiling when she feels the gravity dust in her greaves activate and anchor her to the roof of the bullhead. She walks next to Ryu, Damien joining after a minute. He shoots a passing Nevermore, asking what she was thinking.
"Alright...We followed you up here. You gonna tell us or are we going to have to keep guessing?"
Ryu points to the mountain range quickly approaching. "There." Was his answer, Jasmine looking at it and narrowing her eyes. She scans its walls, seeing nothing out of the ordinary. Damien must've been doing the same, confusion evident in his voice as he speaks to Ryu. "The Auralien Mountains? That's what's got you worried? The mountain passes aren't large enough for nay large scale flying grimm. The largest thing that can fit it the bullhead." Jasmine finds herself agreeing, eyes still not finding anything amiss with the mountain range. Normal rock faces and jagged spires. Swathes of moss and trees covered it in places. A large black spot that was seemingly moving...
"Oh fuck me..." Jasmine whimpers, Ryu giving a grave nod. "The girl has noticed our dilemma..." Damien looks back towards the mountain range, squinting his eyes behind his goggles. Either he had shit vision or he wasn't pushing aura to his eyes for better vision. "What? I don't see anything..." He trails off when the black spot shoots off into the sky faster than Jasmines eyes could follow, a loud screech shaking the air and piercing their ears. The black spot was actually a grimm. A very large grimm at that...
Black wings the size of city blocks flapped with enough force to shake the trees below it like maracas. A large beak screeched its anger to the world, 2 clusters of large red eyes stare forward as it flues toward them. Black feathers absorbed all light shone towards it, the white bone mask over its face scarred and worn from ages of battles and time.
"You have got to be kidding me..." Damien whimpers, Jasmine agreeing with the sentiment. "A giant fucking Nevermore! How the fuck did they miss that thing?! It's the size of a fucking whale!" The answer comes with another gust of wind, Ryu answering. "The storm moved it from its nesting place and it's new nest is..."
"Directly in front of us..." Jasmine mutters, sweating buckets under her armor. Damien was panicking nest to them, hand put up to his ear as he was screaming at none in particular. "What do you mean you can't divert course?! We don't have the firepower to take that thing down?!" Damien curses makes Jasmine turn to him.
"You're talking to the pilots right now?!" Her scream makes him look at her with shocked eyes. "Yes! They said they can't divert course to avoid the Nevermore! They used too much fuel when they gunned it to avoid the horde behind us! We're going to have to fight it!" Jasmine continues cursing, Ryu calmly drawing his sword and taking a breath. Jasmine put her rifle on the ground, frantically pulling her pack from her back. She flips the top open, scrounging through her gear and extra parts. "Where is it?! Where is it?!"
Damien was next to her, rubbing his hands together and clapping quickly. He looks down at the roof of the bullhead, giving a 'whoop!' and falling to his knees. He slams both of his hands down on the roof, palm down. With a grunt, he flares his aura and grins when it starts to cover the bullhead in its entirety. As his aura does this, the bullhead gains a silvery shine; Jasmine stopping her frantic searching. "What are you doing?"
"My semblance is called 'Steel touch'. It lets me make anything I'm touching with my hand become as hard as steel! Only issue is that I'm limited to 2 hands and it takes a metric boat load of Aura to keep it going!" Jasmine feels her eyes widen a little. That's a handy semblance. Her wondering hand finally finds what it was looking for, screaming out a 'yes' and pulls a long barrel and receiver out of her pack. She goes about quickly assembling it, Ryu stepping back towards her. "Hmm...Atlas Design?" His question makes her nod.
"Yep! It's apart of the MFWS program. One lower and a whole house of uppers with varying calibers and uses! This one is the 'Anti Material upper'. Once I get it put together, I'll be able to give big bird up there some new holes!" With a firm click ans the sound of small gears whirring and settling into place, Jasmine grins and brings her now substantially longer rifle to bare. A barrel longer than her own leg, a large scope giving her plenty of magnification. She pulls out a new mag, this one similar in size to the others but the rounds inside much larger and painted a deep black. She loads it, and pulls the charging handle back with a satisfying click.
"Alright ya big fuck! Hope you like the taste of .338 you overgrown turkey!" She pulls the trigger, body immediately slammed back a little from the recoil. Damien cursed from behind her, Ryu barely moving from the concussive blast. Jasmine watches the round fly towards the approaching Nevermore, the rounds tracer bottom glowing just bright enough to see it. She curses when the round is pushed off course by the Nevermores flapping wings. The grimm screeching louder and picking up speed. "Fucking!" Another pull of the trigger and another ear shattering explosion. This one impacts, the Nevermore screeching in pain when the round impacts and takes a chunk of its right ring with it.
It flaps its wings and with a another burst of speed, quickly rising in altitude. "Be ready children...It's begun its assault..." Jasmine and Damien look up, eyes widening when a sea of black feathers erupt from the clouds above them. "Damien!" Jasmine yells, Damiene screaming and pushing more aura into the bullhead. It glows a bright silver, metal groaning when the feathers impact and slam into its aura protected skin. Most of the black feathers miss the bullhead completely, some making purchase and piercing the bullhead. The passengers below them scream in terror when man sized feathers rip the ceiling above them, turning those near them into clouds of flesh and blood.
In the bullhead
A young Jaune was still calmly sleeping, the faunus woman sitting next to him covering him and her child with her body. She never noticed the red glow surround his form, eyes closed tightly in case of death. He shakes a little, the red glow growing stronger. Jaune starts to struggle a little, young eyes scrunching in pain. "No...No...Please...No..." The faunus woman opens her eyes, looking at the sleeping child placed in her care.
She watches in confusion as the blood surrounding them and the others vibrates angrily, the young Jaune struggling against his straps. He starts to scream, the red glow growing to almost blinding levels. With an ear shattering scream, the red glow erupts from his body and bathes the world in unknown and alien symbols, those around him screaming as unknown knowledge fills their minds.
Bullhead roof
Jasmine screams when she sees the blood splatter the windows below them, mentally looking at the roof and trying to think where she and Jaune was sitting. Damien was sweating heavily next to her, tan clothing turning a dark brown. "Don't...*pant*...Worry...I added extra aura to the area your brother was in. The ones that got close just bounced off...But I'm running on fumes here...Don't think I have much more than a minute of aura left..." Jasmine feels relief crash through her body, aura filling every inch of her. "Thanks..." She whispers, Ryu stiffening in front of them. She and Damien look down in confusion when a red light shines from the holes made by the feathers, nearly flying off of the bullhead when an air shattering noise erupts from below them and bathes the world red. Jasmine clenches her teeth to the point of of cracking a tooth as unknown symbols flash before her eyes, voices not her own screaming. Damien was next to her, bumbling some words she couldn't hear...
Just as quickly as it started did it disappear, Jasmine gasping for breath. "The...fuck was that?" She asks, not getting an answer. The Nevermore above the clouds must've heard her, slamming through the clouds and dive bombing towards them with fury in her eyes. The turrets weren't shooting for some reason, Jasmine cursing and bringing up her rifle. Despite the ear splitting headache, despite her aura fluctuating wildly as if it was repelling something, despite the blood rushing out of her ears and eyes, she aims towards the Nevermores head. "Damn! It! This! Was! Supposed! To be! A nice weekend! Fuck You!" She empties the mag towards the Nevermore, smiling with blood coating her teeth when the rounds hit and tear swatches of flesh from it. However...It wasn't dead and it wasn't stopping. Damien was still bumbling next to her, aura fading from the bullhead and returning to him.
Jasmine looks up at the approaching Nevermore, closing her eyes and apologizing. 'I'm sorry Ma...Maybe I should've listened to ya more. I'm sorry Saphron...Guess you were right about me getting into so much trouble and bringing others into said trouble...I'm sorry Scarlet...Hopefully Jaune will survive the crash and you can be his favorite big sis again...I'm sorry Jaune...'
"Big sis?"
A voice, young and distorted spoke deep from within her mind, her eyes opening and looking around the bullhead roof. She gasps when she sees the from of Jaune, her younger brother standing next to Ryu. "Why aren't you next to me? I'm so scared big sis...I'm so scared..."
"Jaune? Wha-what are you doing up here? It's dangerous! Go back in the bullhead!" Her scream causes Ryu to look back at her, her blue eyes staring into his own. "Ryu! Grab my brother and get out of here! He's right next to you!" He opens his mouth to say something, Jaune speaking up. "Big sis...I love you..." Jasmine feels her heart shake at those words, some tears escaping her eyes. "I...I love you too..." The Nevermore above them screeches angrily, Jasmine jerking her head up. "Oh no you don't! You won't get anywhere near him!" She stands up, only to fall to her knees when a wave of exhaustion passes through her. She falls to her knees, lucky that her grieves were still activated and anchoring her to the bullhead. Ryu was in front, a very thin layer of aura covering himself and his sword. He looks back towards her and the bumbling Damien.
"Hm! You children fight well for your ages...But let this elder take this one..." He disappears in a flurry of white fabric, Jasmine looking up and seeing the Nevermore be cut in half by a thin blade of from the older mans sword. She smiles slightly, eyes widening when the Nevermores dissolving corpse impacts the bullhead. The horrendous sound of metal creaking and breaking apart makes Jasmine shudder. She watches as the large grimms corpse falls off, the bullhead screaming and finally losing the battle. With the accumulated damage from the horde and the barrage of feathers; the bullhead slowly starts to split in half.
Jasmine watches in mute horror as the half she was on slowly separated from the one Damien was on, the screams of the passengers loud despite the whipping wind. Luggage, and shards of metal fly upwards as gravity took its effect. Those unlucky enough to be near the split were sucked out by the wind and air pressure, screaming as they were flung high into the air and began their freefall towards the earth below. She sees a flash of bright blonde hair, dread filling her body as she whispers... "Jaune..." The bullhead half below her impacts the ground, her consciousness fading and thoughts muddled into a blank hum.
Unknown amount of time later
The crackling of fires covered the groans and screams of those still living, local grimm attracted to the accumulating despair. One bold Beowulf sniffs the air, poking its head through a whole in the wrecked husk of a bullhead. It's beady red eyes look around for its next meal, a whimper escaping its throat when a flesh colored spike is rammed through its eyes and out its head. It goes slack, body being yanked back inside the bullhead. The other grimm growl out, instincts telling them something was deeply wrong. The largest Beowulf moves forward, howling a challenge to whatever was in the wrecked bullhead. It receives its answer when a mass of horrible disfigured bodies erupt from the bullhead, roaring back at them and charging forward.
The 2 forces clashed, and within the husk of the bullhead; a blonde child mumbles and rolls over. Miraculously unharmed from the crash, face scrunched as if some horrible nightmare was plaguing his sleep. The red glow reappears, those still alive near him watching with horror or crazy smiles as the dead next to them twitch and morph into grotesque forms.
Those who inhabited Remnant thought the grimm were the worst to come...Never knowing of the horrors lying in wait from the stars...

Authors note: I've been playing through the Dead space series since I completed the remake of the orginal Dead space. I had the thought of 'what if the Marker could be a semblance'? What if the Necromorphs were on Remnant? How could this affect the story? If ya liked it, leave a review, favorite, or even give me a DM. Cheers for reading!

Sneak peaks if I continue this...
Her breath came out hot and heavy as she stumbled through the forests underbrush. Her aura was fluctuating wildly, mind racing with worry as she raced towards where the flare was sent up. She hears the howls of Beowulfs making her run even faster. The shuffling of something unknown made her worry even more, the words of Ryu echoing in her head. She nearly screams in joy when she bursts through the forests thicket, wildly looking around. Her blonde hair was wet and sticky with sweat, her eyes coming onto a scene she could scarcely believe.
Damien...was pointing his shotgun at her brothers head. He was pointing it at him and shaking, body trying to move but failing. He had a wild look to his eyes, her darling younger brother was crying and covered in mud and blood. He was so scared...Her rifle was in her hands before she knew it, iron sights pointed square on Damiens head. "Jaune!" She screams, rushing forward with heavy steps. She gets close enough to hear Damien yell.
"You...You must die! We must make them whole! You must become the Marker!" He pushes his shotgun closer and moves to pull the trigger. A gunshot echoes, brain matter and blood covering the ground and a shrill cry echoing in the forest. And just beyond the forest, broken bodies move and twist in ways that would horrify the masses.
