Chapter 6

Angel glared at the man approaching; he neared Buffy and he stood in the way… "Can I help you…?"

Spike glared back, "Yeah mate, you can move aside so I can talk to my girl…"

Angel's heart shattered for a moment, but before jumping to conclusions, he waited for Buffy's response…

She put a hand on his shoulder moving him aside and whispered to him, "Angel… it's ok…" and something like anger built inside him. He quickly faced her… waiting for answers that he knew he didn't quite ought to have yet.

She stared blankly at Spike, her tone serious, "What are you doing here Spike…"

"Came to see you love… I've missed you…" he made his way to hug her and she stopped him.

"I'm gonna go…" Angel was able to let out in between gritted teeth. He wasn't going to hang around any drama. She obviously had a past or more like a current past still present.

"Angel…" she called and went after him, but he didn't stop or turned around, "Angel!" she called again pulling his arm to have him face her. "This isn't what you think, let me explain…"

Angel stopped her raising a hand, "No need…" the limo driver pulled up, getting down opening his door. Angel stepped in. The driver gave her an apologetic look and got in the vehicle taking off.

"Angel!" she yelled a hand in the air, as if that would make him stop.

Tears began to build in her eyes, and rage filled her. She spun around stalked over to where Spike stood amused. She reached him and slapped him. "What the hell do you want from me now… the four years of my life that you ruined weren't enough…"

Spike fumed for a second then cooled off, he handed her the flowers… "I honestly missed you… I came back for you; I want us to get back together…"

She took the flowers and ripped them apart throwing them at him, "I don't want anything to do with you ever… do you think that after what you did to me, I'd ever trust you again…"

She walked off angry and he followed her, pulling her in to a forced hug and strived to kiss her. "But I love you, I've always had…"

She stood still and glared with a fire in her eyes he'd never seen before, "Don't. You. Dare…"

He leaned in close to kiss her anyways, but didn't. He let her go and sighed… "I know that I made many mistakes…"

"I don't care if you finally saw the light Spike. That sickening thing between us of a relationship, if you can even call it that… is done, for good." She called the cab waiting off of the Senior Center, lucky for her; there was always one nearby.

The cab pulled up and she opened the door, she paused a moment, then turned around to face him, "If I see you again… I will get a restriction order against you…" she stepped in and left.

Spike glared at her departure, this wasn't going to stay like this. He took out a paper from his back pocket; it seemed a torn page of a magazine. It was the cover, a picture of her and Angel gazing at each other with a smile. The headline read, "O'Donnell Business Empire's Heir & His New Sweetheart!"

/

Angel arrived to the O'Donnell's Offices, he walked straight to his office without greeting anyone; he stopped at his secretary's desk and asked, "Any messages…"

"Yes Mr. O'Donnell… here you go…" she handed them to her, "Are you…"

He cut her off, "Is Cor here yet…?"

"Uh, no sir… she went to the meeting that you missed this morning to reschedule…"

"Great…" he said with sarcasm, "send her in the moment she arrives…" and walked off.

He sat in his desk going through messages, but not really grasping what he was reading. Frustration filled him; he tossed the tiny papers on his desk. He didn't want to think of her… she obviously still had some kind of a boyfriend, and there he was like an idiot still feeling something for her.

The door opened startling him taking him out of his thoughts…

"Hey cuz… so how was last night… tell me everything…" she continued to babble, "Must have been good if you missed the appointment for this morning…" she walking towards him looking at some papers in her hand. When he didn't respond she looked up… "Angel…?"

"Look… I don't want to talk about it… did you reschedule my morning meeting…?"

She looked at him puzzled, his expression read anger and hurt, "Angel… what happened? Up until this morning you sounded chipper in the message you left… what changed…?"

He looked up with a look stating that he wasn't going to discuss it…

"Fine…" she scoffed, "Yes… I rescheduled your meeting for this afternoon. It will be drinks at Athena's…"

"Thanks… and I need one more favor…"

"What's that…?"

"Call Rosalie's Flowers and cancel the order for Ms. Summers…"

"But…" she began to argue, but he glared.

"Okay… okay…" she got up, "consider it done… Will you be at the Bronx tonight…"

"Yeah… I have some things to do then I'll probably head home…"

"Alright, call if you need me…"

He nodded and she was out the door.

Buffy walked into her dorm throwing herself on the bed, she couldn't believe how quickly things had gotten that bad. Angel hadn't even given her time to explain Spike or anything. For all she knew, he might think that she was lying to him or keeping from him that she had a boyfriend or something.

There was a thud at the door and she furrowed her eyebrows, could Spike have followed her there…? She got up slowly approaching the door and opened it…

"AH!" Willow and Riley yelled as they fell. They had apparently been kissing against the door and when Buffy opened it, they lost balance.

They looked up at her; Riley grinned, "Hi…"

Willow smiled from under Riley, "I… I didn't think you were going to be home… I thought you'd be spending the day with Angel or something…"

Buffy faked a smile, "No uh… something came up and he had to go…"

Willow realized her friend's saddened mood and got up pulling Riley with her, "Oh… ok well…" she turned to Riley, "Why don't I meet you at your place in a little while… just so I can grab some stuff…"

"But… I thought we were…" he began to question oblivious to the situation. Then Will made a face and he understood, they needed time… privacy… "Right… so… meet you at my place… call me…" He kissed her, "Bye Buffy…" and left.

"You didn't have to do that…" Buffy smiled, tears building in her eyes.

"Yes… I did…" she hugged her and they walked to sit on the bed.

"What happened…"

Buffy sobbed, "S… S… Spike showed up at my dance class…"

"What! Oh sweetie… and…?" she hugged her trying to be comforting.

"The idiot showed up with flowers, calling me love, you know how he is… and before I could tell Angel anything… he left… I could tell he was mad and hurt, but he didn't let me explain, he just left…"

"That asshole… I swear that if I see him around I will…"

More tears fell down her cheeks, "Not necessary … I threaten that if he showed up; I'd get a restraining order against him…"

"Like that would stop him…" she scoffed, "Buffy I'm sorry, I'm sure if you give Angel a couple of days to cool off… he'll come to his senses…" she smiled at her friend.

Buffy smirked back, "Thanks, but I think I'm going to just keep to my plan and avoid guys all together…"

"Buffy…" she began to intercede.

"So don't you have to get going…" she interrupted, "go meet your guy…"

Willow stared with a sympathetic stare; "Go…" she ordered.

About a week later, Buffy had not heard from Angel, and even though she'd lied to herself by saying that she didn't care if she saw him again or not, her heart ached for him. She'd fallen for him in one night, in one moment… the second that she laid eyes on him, her world had changed. She'd been trying to convince herself otherwise, but she couldn't deny what she felt.

Everyone had noticed her change in moods, her students, her dance partners, her friends, everyone… and no one knew why, except Willow…

"Buffy… sweetie… you should go talk to him…"

"Will, not this again… I'm fine, plus he obviously wants nothing to do with me since he hasn't come by or bothered to call remember…?"

"Yeah, but maybe he thinks you got back with your ex or something, he can't read minds you know…" she smiled at her friend as they walk around campus, "I mean think about it, men are egotistical, he's not gonna call and say 'hey I just wanna know if you got back with your ex if not, maybe we could hook up' I mean get real Buff…"

Buffy knew her friend was right but still…

Then Riley walked up from behind them scaring them both… they yelled…

"God you little…" Will smack him playfully on the arm, "Don't scare us dork…"

He laughed, "Alright, I'm soooorry…" he said with a smile, completely expressing he wasn't. Then he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in for a kiss.

Buffy laughed at him scaring them to death, but when they began kissing she saddened. She wanted nothing more in the world than to be in the arms of Angel. She walked away giving them privacy…

They stopped kissing and Will looked around for her friend, "Buffy do you…? Where'd she go…?"

"Oops…" Riley said, "Too much PDA I assume…"

Will sighed…

"They're still not talking huh?" he questioned.

"No… and as much as I've tried to work her up to it, she doesn't want to budge. She keeps saying that it's probably a sign that she should focus on her career only."

"God… you women…" Riley said, "and you know what… it's been hell to be around Angel. He's always the cool boss, the awesome friend and right now… I think he's in denial. He's moody, he's yelling at the employees, it's a nightmare, and if anyone so much as brings up the word Buffy, love, or women, he flips…"

"I swear…" Will threw her arms in the air, "they are so meant to be…"

Buffy had stopped for coffee on her way to dance practice when all of a sudden she bumped into someone making her drop all of their books and drink, "Gosh… I'm so sorry…. I was…" she responded immediately.

"No… no… I'm sorry, I'm such a klutz, if I don't trip, I fall, drop stuff on myself, or run into people…" the girl smiled at Buffy, as they picked up their books, "Oh… and now your coffeeless…"

"It's fine" Buffy smiled, "I'll get another…"

"Please let me buy it for you, it's the least I can do…"

"That's not necessary, really…"

"Yes it is" the girl smiled, "you've suffered the Angelica clumsiness curse, and it's the least I can do…"

Buffy stared at the girl a moment, couldn't she had been named something else that wasn't close to the name of a certain someone she was desperately trying to forget?

"I'll take your silence as a yes…" Angelica dragged Buffy to the drink cart, "how do you take your coffee?"

Buffy gave the girl a small smile, "Strong, two creams, four sugars…"

"and a regular iced coffee, two creams, two sugars…" she said to the young man at the cart. She then glanced at Buffy be in deep thought, like something was wrong and couldn't help but wonder why so she asked, "You okay?"

Buffy looked up, "Oh… yes, just a little distracted… obviously…" she gestured to their books of the recent incident.

"Right…" Angela smiled, "we'll here you go…" she handed her the drink, "so… I'll see you around campus…?"

"See you around campus," she smirked, "and thank you for the coffee…"

"No problem…" the girl said as she walked off.

She took a sip of her coffee and looked at the time; if she didn't rush to her class she'd be late. So she put her books in her duffel and hurried to the dance studio. When she got there, she saw the figure of a man leaning against the door; he was looking into the studio as if searching for someone…

Her heart began to accelerate at the thought that it was him, that he'd be there… looking for her. He was a tall man with dark hair, wearing black slacks and white collar shirt; the shirt seemed to accentuate his muscles very nicely, she thought.

With something like excitement and fear filling her, she walked to him nervously, raised her hand to his shoulder to have him turn around and said, "Angel…?"

"Excuse me…?" the man turned around to face her, it wasn't him.

"I'm sorry I thought you were someone else, sorry…" she said as she walked by him in a dash.

She was losing her mind, not only was she having to deal with hearing his name, but now she thought she was seeing him too… If things didn't change soon she'd have to have herself checked into the loony bin; at least she was in class now and dancing would ensure her thoughts not being filled by him.
