Chapter 7
A nice long dance class later, she was happy that she'd tired herself out… She was leaving the women's lockers after a nice long hot shower, it not only felt like it washed away the sweat of her hard working day, but something about the water hitting her skin made her head clear, which she had needed desperately today.
/
She walked into Willow's and her dorm room to find it empty, again… Will and Riley had spent almost every moment possible together since that night at the Bronx, which was good for her friend but she had to admit she was a little jealous. Not that she'd admit it to her or anyone else out loud.
She tossed her bag to the side of the bed, they were going to have a test for Literature class the next day and Will had said she'd leave her notes on the dresser for her. She walked towards it seeing the black notebook on top of a bunch of magazines and reached for carelessly making them fall to the floor.
She sighed rolling her eyes, she bent down to picked them up, when she noticed the magazines all had one thing common. Her and Angel's picture plastered right there on them. She picked them up reading the covers, "The Bronx Opens Successfully, but who's the hottie!"
"Meet the Young O'Donnell's New Love!"
"Mystery Girl Wins Most Eligible Bachelor"
"O'Donnell Business Empire's Heir & His New Sweetheart!" and this one had a sticky note on it that said: [GO FIND HIM! -W] with Angel's business card attached on to it.
She smiled at the thought of her crazy friend arranging the magazines just so that she'd find them. She processed the gesture for a moment flicking the card in her fingers debating to go, but then thought, what was she waiting for? She swiftly grabbed her wallet and headed out the door…
/
Angel knew he hadn't been the greatest person to have around recently, he was temperamental, he seemed to get upset at everything, and his employees were actually beginning to fear him.
He'd promised to himself that he'd never get to that point, but he couldn't help it. He refused to think it was because of her, but the truth was, that it was exactly because of her.
The moment he laid eyes on her, he knew in his heart, in his soul that she was special… that they were right where they needed to be… right there and then… for each other…
/
Back at the entrance of the O'Donnell's Offices a woman, tall, of slender figure, dark hair, and pretty features stormed into the place. She walked in like she was on a mission…
Mr. O'Donnell's Secretary, Anya, saw her and rushed to her side…
"Ms. Kinsley…" she said alarmed, "Please, please let me tell him you're here… please don't just burst through the door… please!" she begged.
Angel heard the commotion outside of his office… he got up from his desk to go find out what was going on when the door flung open. The pretty woman walked in, standing in the middle of his office, tapping her expensive heels on the floor and glared with indignation.
"Mr. O'Donnell I'm so sorry, I tried to stop her, I tried…"
Angel rolled his eyes at the woman and cut his secretary off, "Anya… it's okay, just close the door."
As she left, he sat back down on his desk pretending to work and then glanced at the woman again, "Drusilla… how was your vacation?" he asked not really interested.
"HOW WAS MY VACATION…?" she began upset, "Is that all you have to say to me…?"
"Actually I'd rather say nothing at all to you, but here you are… expecting something."
She walked towards his desk and threw a bunch of magazines on it, "I should ask you how your time at home has been, obviously very busy…"
He'd already been aware of the media's speculation on his relationship with the blonde at the Bronx, so he just grabbed the magazines and put them aside.
"And…" he said annoyed, "you broke up with me remember…" he stated as a matter of fact.
"So… we break up all the time, then I go away for a couple of months, do some shopping, I come back, you make love to me, and we get back together… It's just how things work between us."
"No… I told you that day, that if you left, it was over for sure, NOT for the moment."
"You always say that…" she whined walking around the desk slowly, gracing a finger on the desk as she went trying to seduce him.
"No, I always let you throw your tantrum, you decide to leave, and I use to take you back, but not anymore."
Outside his office, Buffy walked to a lady on a desk and asked, "Is Mr. O'Donnell in his office…?"
Anya thought for a second, she was the girl from the magazines and her boss would probably want an excuse to send Drusilla on her way, so she nodded, "Yes, he's in with someone but I'm sure he'll love the interruption." She encouraged.
"No… I don't think I should, I'll just wait…" she responded.
Anya got up, "Honestly… he won't mind…" she got up to escort her to the door.
/
Drusilla was half sitting on his desk standing before him, he'd push his chair back to put space between them, but she persisted… she swung a leg over one side of him and then the other, straddling him, she began to kiss his neck while unbuttoning his shirt and he stood up abruptly holding her hands to her chest, "Stop it! Dru… You've gotta go… Don't make me call security…"
She stared at him seductively, "You wouldn't…" she said as she pushed herself onto him for a kiss…
"Mr. O'Donnell… Miss…" Anya began when she heard the young lady gasp.
At the sound of the door, Angel peaked from around Drusilla to catch a glimpse of a young woman and blonde hair leave…
/
A gasp escaped her as she walked through the office door to find the man that had claimed a piece of her heart, who she was willing to beg to to listen to her… holding another woman as she kissed him… Her first instinct was to flee from the heartbreaking scene, before he'd see her and catch her breaking down for a mere mini date…
/
"Anya… who was that…?" Angel said letting Drusilla go and walked towards the door.
"I'm… I'm sorry Mr. O'Donnell, it was a Miss… Miss… god, I can't remember her name, the girl from the magazines…" she finished.
"Buffy?" He asked surprised, "What did she say, what did she need…?"
"I don't know, she just asked to see you… she…"
"Did she see Dru and me…?"
"Yes… and next thing I knew…"
He didn't wait to listen to the rest; he took off practically running hoping to catch her. He got to the elevator and noticed it was going to be a while before it came back up… He pushed the exit door open and almost flew down the stairs…
His mind raced with curiosity and excitement… it swirled with the possibility that she actually like him and had come to straighten things out or something. She'd come to look for him, he smiled, but if she'd seen him with Dru, she was going to think that something else was going on that wasn't true.
He got to the bottom floor and ran to the security desk, "Joe…" he said out of breath, "a girl, petite, cute, short blonde hair… has she passed through here…?"
"Yes sir… she just walked out the door…"
"Fuck!" he cursed running out the main doors, "Buffy?" he called out. He looked to both sides of the street and nothing…
He came back in shaking his head…
"Did you catch the young girl sir…?"
"No…" he said disappointed, "She probably took a cab…"
/
He walked back into his office to find Drusilla in his chair… "What are you still doing here Dru…?"
"Waiting for you sexy…"
He scoffed grabbing his blazer, "I'm not kidding Dru, you and I are over…"
"Why…" she got up offended standing in his way, "because of that slut…"
He grabbed her by the arms, "DON'T INSULT HER…" he almost growled, "and I don't owe you any explanations…" he let her go heading for the door.
"Where are you going?" She yelled infuriated after him.
"After her…" he said smiling.
/
Buffy was in the cab with tears streaming down her face…
"You okay sweetie…" the older man driving asked. He reminded her of what a grandpa should have been like, but she hadn't had the chance to meet hers.
The lump in her throat kept her from speaking, so she just nodded up and down in the mirror.
She wiped her tears and noticed the man give her a sympathetic look…
All she could bring to mind was that there she was crying like a little girl over a guy that wasn't even her boyfriend. That's why he hadn't called or gone looking for her; he was too busy entertaining his new conquest, how stupid could she have been thinking that he'd just be sitting around waiting for her.
/
About an hour later, Buffy settled on her bed trying to study for her test. She wasn't getting anywhere though, every time she read a sentence, it would blur out because of her tears.
"Ugh… stop!" she wiped her eyes aggravated, "that's what I get for letting my emotions mean something…"
Then a knock on the door scared her… She got up from the bed slowly wondering who could be at her door. She was about to open it when she heard a voice…
"Buffy…?" he waited to hear something, but nothing came, "It's Angel…" he continued.
When she heard his voice, she almost opened the door in a rush… but fought the urge. He had a girlfriend and that wasn't going to change in a few hours.
When nothing came, he wrote a note saddened on her door and left.
She waited a while before opening the door… when she did; she noticed the note on the door. It said,
Buffy,
We need to talk, please call me.
Angel
