Chapter 19

Angel had gotten up early the next morning too excited to get any sleep, knowing that he would get factual confirmation of whether he was going to be a father or not would keep anyone awake. Four AM his clock had shown, and eventually… he just ended up getting out of bed. As quietly as possible, of course, to let the love of his life sleep. He'd worked out in their mini gym, done some paper work, researched pregnancy- that was his over excitement, called the references for the PA he wanted for Buffy until he finally, hours later, heard her descending the stairs, and that made him glance at the time, it was barely seven thirty.

Buffy groaned as she went in search of him, sleepy, "Ugh…" she yawned, "I am in SO much need of a huge Starbucks cup of coffee to wake me up…"

"Uh uh…" Angel singsonged in disapproval, "caffeine is bad for my son…"

"Son?" she quirked an eyebrow, "what if it's a girl, huh?"

Angel visibly stiffened, "God I hope not, I'll have to buy a gun, put bars on her windows, perhaps even lock her up till she's fifty…" he pondered. Over reacting maybe, but he knew men…

At the sight of his face and his comment, Buffy couldn't help but laugh… "Huh? A little scared of our daughter meeting someone like you?" she knew she was just teasing him, but the dig was suppose to have been funny, since most men were evil, just not hers.

"NO…" he answered quickly, too quickly. He knew that he was one of the good guys, but that hadn't always been the case. He'd been young and stupid once and though not intentionally had hurt some girls, it had still happened and he had witnessed them be upset.

The thought of someone hurting his daughter… his little girl, boiled his blood and scared him shitless…

"Uh huh…" Buffy raised an eyebrow at him; "Sure…" she grabbed her purse then and said, "well… are we going?"

"Yeah…" he snapped out of it, "Right, let's get going…" he grabbed his keys and led her out to his car.

Half an hour later… they were in a room, with Buffy on the patient bed patiently waiting unlike Angel, who seemed to want to burst of anxiety.

Just then… there was a light tap on the door, making Angel jump to his feet…

Dr. Giles walked in, a large smile on his face, "Liam Angelus Junior…" he walked to the young man and gave him a gentleman's hug, like a grandpa to his grandchild.

Angel made a face when the doctor pulled back, "Why do you insist on calling me that Rupert," he said knowing he disliked his first name as well, "It's Angel, please… you know I hate being called by my father's name…"

Dr. Giles chuckled contagiously and that's when he heard a female laugh; he turned to Buffy then, "and I am being terribly rude, Dr. Giles…" he turned to her shaking her hand, "long friend and doctor of the family…"

"Pleasure to meet you…" Buffy smiled.

"You know…" he winked at her, "I have many diaper stories of this one here if you ever…"

"Woah, yeah… how about them results, huh?" Angel bud in then.

She laughed lightly, "Perhaps another time," she winked back, "but… do you have news for us…?"

"Yes…" Angel went to Buffy's side taking her hand, "make our day…"

Dr. Giles laughed at that and then took the doctor stool sitting on it as he was scanning the lab work that had been taken before he came in. His serious face and tone taking over his features… it was one thing to chit chat with friends, but he was serious when it came down to his work.

"Well… you're going to be parents, that's for sure…" he told them.

Buffy grinned and Angel practically jumped of joy…

"How soon can we know the sex…?" Angel rushed to question.

"Well…" Dr. Giles began, "let me get one of the nurses so we can figure out how far along she is and if it's more than a month, then you can know as soon as today…"

"Really!" Buffy was taken.

"Great!" Angel said at the same time.

"Really…" he replied, "It's this new method of testing blood that allows us to be able to tell the sex. It is only 95% accurate, but hasn't failed us in being correct…"

After making some notations in her chart, he nodded at them… needing to prep for the rest of the examination.

Dinner at Angel's and Buffy's place tonight had been announced to the family and closest friends. Cordelia itched to tell everyone the news, but knew that Angel would kill her if she spilled, so her job had been to make sure all the right people had been invited over to their house. He'd told her to make it clear that this was business related if anyone asked, so that no one would expect the news. Among the list of guests were his parents, Riley, Willow, Xander, Dawn, Wesley, Fred, Lindsey, and of course, her charming self.

Angel knew that he should have waited at least till Buffy was a little further along to share the news, but he was so ecstatic that he just couldn't hold it in. The moment he'd met Buffy he was sure that nothing would ever compare to the happiness he felt with her until he married her. Making her his wife had been the highlight of his life and he was almost positive then, that nothing would top that

And yet… the moment Dr. Giles had voiced his parenthood… he felt his heart soar in such a diverse emotion, but just as strong as his love for Buffy. It was wonderful and he couldn't wait to share it with the world. He mostly hated the media because they never butted out of their lives, but this was one thing he looked forward to announce. He was just that happy.

The birth of his first child… of course he was hoping for a boy, he did after all want to keep to the O'Donnell tradition and have an heir, but even the thought of having a little girl as beautiful as Buffy, melted his heart. Even if he did become a psychotic father wanting to protect her from men and the world in general.

The moment that they'd arrived at home, Angel had carried her up to their room… told her he did not want her out of bed today, and had their newly hired help, bring her food to bed. Buffy had huffed and puffed her disapproval… but he threatened to stay the whole day to make sure she did as he wanted, so in the interest of not being stuck in bed and making sure he went to work, she agreed.

Soon Angel went off on his day leaving her to be pampered, as he had made sure that the staff was aware of the night's dinner to announce his happy news.

After Angel left… her staying doing absolutely nothing in bed lasted for about an hour and she was soon out the door. She had just gotten back from overseas and there were still things she needed to do, people to visit, plus a little exploring at what motherhood would bring… was at the top of her list to do.

Now since Angel had told her to not tell anyone till tonight, she'd be doing things on her own… which he would hate, once he found out, but oh well… she grinned devilishly. He should know better…

/

Isa was surprised that Angel had included them in a dinner event relating to business considering that him and his father were barely speaking. Which is how she was sure that there was something else going on… with a little luck it would be what she most desired…

A grandchild…

It would be the greatest thing in the world and the one thing that would bring them, her husband and Angel, closer together.

Later that evening Angel arrived at his huge house mansion to happily greet his wife. Imagine his surprise at walking in to their bedroom to find it completely empty. A surge of anger had quickly sparked, but too soon he remembered… who he had asked to listen to him.

He wasn't completely delusional and had known that she would probably not listen but he had hoped… with that last thought in mind, he headed back down the stairs to look for one of the maids to ask if they knew were his wife was…

He was about to call one of the girls when he heard Buffy's voice…

"Krista…" she said talking to the older woman while holding numerous bags in her hands, "please tell me Mr. O'Donnell is not home yet…"

The woman was about to answer when Angel stepped hard on the steps saying, "Well guess who's in trouble…"

"Angel…" Buffy jumped at his voice, she made an oops face in his direction, giving him the sweetest smile she could muster and said, "I love you?"

He attempted to glare, but dammit… he loved her too much and he ever hardly stayed mad at her anyway. He sighed…

"Why are you carrying that stuff, that's why we have help…"

"You know I don't like that…" she answered.

So he approached, calling one the younger maids and asked them to carry the bags to their room… Buffy rolled her eyes, but swiftly wrapped her arms around his neck as he'd pulled her body to his…

She was about to ask how his day was when he captured her lips in a loving, yet lust filled kiss. Buffy hummed her satisfaction as he pulled her body's flush to his, loving the little sounds he could produce to escape out of her lips, he whispered…

"How about a little…" he nibbled at her ear lobe while letting his tongue lick at the rim of the sensitive flesh… making her shiver, she quickly grabbed at his hand a glint of fire in her eyes while rushing up to their bedroom.

Buffy and Angel were having a great time entertaining the guests that had arrived in the company living room. Dawn had been a little upset that Buffy had kept her arrival hidden from her in order not to pull her attention from school, but all in all, it was just great to be able to bring everyone close. They'd all spent time and got to get to know each other at the wedding and since Buffy had no other family worth speaking of… this, was it.

Xander had been promoted at work and he'd apparently met someone, which he was excited to introduce to her, but not on a day like today because it had been made clear it was more of a family event and though he was sure she was the one, he didn't want to take away from whatever was happening tonight.

Cordelia laughed loudly in the middle of all their giggles, the topic of the evening… how much lit up Angel looked with Buffy now around, it was just love.

"I don't know… I use to think marriage was truly a scam or some kind of profitable business arrangement until my cousin…" she glanced at Angel sipping from her drink, "after that I was sure I wanted what he has…" her gaze then went to Lindsey.

"Yeah, thanks for the unreasonable expectations…" Lindsey joked, earning a smack from Cordy, he pulled her by the waist to him, kissing her on the cheek, "you know I'm just joking…" he snuggled her lovingly.

"You better be…" Angel playfully glared, "I'll kick your ass if you hurt her…"

"Hey, it's tough out there…" Xander voiced with a huge grin, "but when the right person appears, it's just…"

"The most amazing thing to be had…" Fred beamed, taking Wesley's hand in hers, "We're lucky…"

"I'm the lucky one…" Wes pecked the front of her palm, as he gazed with devotion in his eyes.

"Ugh…" Dawn crossed her arms, "you guys make it impossible to believe that true love doesn't exist. I mean is it all really worth the heartache…?"

They all chuckled at her naïveté's in that area, as Buffy said, "Ah, my little sister…" shifting her gaze to Angel momentarily while turning back to her and saying, "when you know the answer to that question… you'll know you've found what you've been looking for…" Standing to walk over to Angel then as he stood by the mini bar; she hugged him, "and trust me… it comes when we least expect it…"

"And a toast to that…" Linds said happily raising his glass, "to getting what we most desire when we least expect it…"

Raising their glasses, they cheered to their toast…

It was such a great gathering with their closest friends there… which were like family. Most of the time they were all too busy to get together like this, which is why he was enjoying it so much. The only people they were waiting for to have dinner served, were his parents, which like if invoking their presence… the door bell rang…

Buffy, being woman of the house and the host of dinner- though pushed by her husband, excused herself to attend to her in-laws most likely at the door.

She'd opened the door revealing the couple and she smiled at the sight, what she wasn't aware of was the couple that stood behind them…

Joyce and Hank Summers…

Not only could she not fathom their reason for being here, of all things together considering they were divorced, her mother had practically kicked her and Dawn out blaming them for draining her money dry, which was impossible taking into account that the money they had had was because of Buffy's working.

Emotion overwhelming her and completely taken by surprise, the last thing she remembered was not being able to breath as the floor seemed to disappear from under her, and the faint call of her name at a distance…
