I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO PIXARGIRL FOR CREATING THESE CHARACTERS.
Edmonton, Province of Calgary. The same day.
Ilene Faulkner showed no emotion as she waited for the royal announcement to begin. Even though she had elected to watch the announcements by herself, the journalist from Calgary refused to let her mask falter even for a second. No one was better at hiding their emotions than Ilene was. Her ability to keep her emotions in helped her greatly with her job. After all, being a journalist meant that you needed to be unbiased and report by fact, not feeling. That was how Ilene did it. However, just because she didn't let her emotions get the better of her, didn't mean that she wasn't passionate about the work that she did.
Ilene Faulkner had quite the reputation for being a complainer. If she saw something in the world that didn't sit right with her, she raised Hell about it. It didn't matter what it was or who was involved. If Ilene felt that something was wrong, she had to bitch about it until something changed. While this made her a formidable force for change, it also gained quite a few enemies; even within her own family.
Eventually, the appointed time arrive and Ilene pushed the thoughts of her family quarrels out of her head as the national anthem of Illèa began to play on the TV set before cutting to King Maxon III and Queen Aspenia sitting on a regal looking couch as they faced their subjects.
"Good afternoon, my fellow Illèans." Maxon said with a smile. "I am pleased to announce that after going through thousands of applications, my queen and I have chosen the thirty five women who will participate in our mistress selection." The King of Illèa cleared his throat as he and Aspenia began to read off the names, switching off on every other name. The Journalist from Calgary had to wait a little bit before the royal couple got to her province.
"From the province of Calgary, Ilene Faulkner!" Queen Aspenia declared as Ilene kept on her usual poker face. A part of her hadn't been a hundred percent sure that she would be selected. However, now that she had a serious chance, Ilene intended to use it to further her career. Even if she didn't win, she could use the prestige to possibly become a diplomat or some position that she could use to help Illèa.
Chicago, Province of Kent. The same day.
Dorothy Nicolette Sumague Cueva was sitting in her trailer with her 2 children close by her side. She had originally wanted to watch the announcement alone; so that she could control her children's disappointment if she ended up not winning, but Clay and Sarah Sládek insisted on serving as emotional support for their mother.
"I'm sure you'll win mother." Clay said as he gave his mother's hand a squeeze.
"Yeah, and then you'll get to meet the King and Queen!" Sarah added with child like excitement.
"That would be epic." The actress from Kent said with a forced smile as she kissed bother her children on the forehead. She didn't dare them the real motives behind her application for the selection. Dorothy despised the government and the monarchy in general. When she heard about Maxon looking for an official mistress, Dorothy began to plan and fantasize about overthrowing the government and to get justice for all the lower castes who suffered under the unfair system.
Dorothy held her kids close as the national anthem of Illèa began to play on the TV set before cutting to King Maxon III and Queen Aspenia sitting on a regal looking couch as they faced their subjects.
"Pick mom...pick mom!" Clay chanted at the TV.
"From the province of Kent, Dorothy Slade!" Maxon announced as he used her stage name.
"He picked you mom!" Sarah exclaimed as Dorothy held her children close. They thought she had another chance at love, but Dorothy saw this as a chance for revenge.
