Maximum Ride Short Story #1 Part 2

I met his dark eyes thoughtfully. He stared back, a weird look of caution and excitement in his glaze. He had token care of himself, I noticed. Wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, he looked as dark and mysterious as he used to look. His long hair had not been cut for a while, so it hung in his face. His black wings were pulled into his back, looming dark behind him.
A tear escaped my eye and slowly ran down my check. The whole flock had joined Fang in staring at me, but all I saw was Fang. He softened and slowly walked up to me. I couldn't take it anymore and ran into his arms, nearly knocking him over in the process. He staggered, but wrapped his long arms around me.
I cried into his chest, fingers clutching his shirt. He sighed, wrapping himself more firmly around me, like I was going to disappear any minute. I leaned back, looking into his eyes, searching for what I knew was already there.
"I missed you Fang," I sobbed, my voice cracking on his name. A small smile crept across his face.
"Me too Max, me too."
I glanced at my flock, each of their faces streaming with tears. I smiled then.
"Come on guys," I said, stepping away from Fang and standing straight. I let my wings loose, spreading them to their full lengths.
"Let's go home."
