"Ah Midgard's warrior you've returned! I had wished to say farewell and to ask for your name."
Though the man was smiling he had a more serious countenance than when Tony had left, the four characters next to him wore grave faces and shuffled around as if impatient. Now that he got to see up close they wore similar antiqued armor that allowed Tony to came to the easy conclusion that there were more gods running around. That headache wasn't going anywhere that's for sure.
I'm wiped, your turn buddy.
Tony was done with today thank you.
"Iron Man," Bruce replied smoothly, likely knowing when Tony needed a break without the usual hemming and hawing for which Tony was thankful. Thor clapped Bruce on the back with a hefty thump before turning to a woman with regular earth clothes, upon seeing this Bruce spoke to Mr. Agent,
"Agent Coulson were there any casualties?" The man who had a pinched look smoothed it out to answer,
"Not that I'm aware of," He nodded towards Bruce in appreciation. "A lot of the destruction was mitigated due to your actions."
"Was this the Agent that helped in diverting the enemy?" Bruce asked, Tony wondered at his interest.
The agent in question snorted causing Coulson to look like he wanted to call the day over as well and spoke simply, "Yes, he was."
Bruce turned towards him, "I see you use the bow."
The other man's eyes narrowed before deciding to not take it badly and puffed out his chest, "Hell yeah I do, saved your bacon with it too."
Tony rolled his mentally made eyes, the guy sounded so proud for barely doing anything. In the background Thor kissed the woman and called out for limedoll, hyme doll? To pick them up. Tony watched on curious as to what was going to happen. Thor continued calling someone until quite suddenly the merry band of apparent gods left in a beam of light.
Beam me up Scotty!
Tony thought dryly even as he had to come to terms extraterrestrials were able to come and go as they pleased, that aliens got to teleport but him? No dice. There was a moment of silence as everyone processed what happened, the guy that didn't look like an agent coughed breaking the stillness. Someone stepped forward.
"You better give me back my research like you said," the woman who flirted with a god spoke lowly to Coulson. Bruce surprisingly interjected,
"SHIELD took Dr. Fosters research?" Under the suit he sounded mildly disproving but to them thanks to the suits voice modifier he sounded far more sinister.
Coulson looked uncomfortable either from the questioning or the fact people straight up vanished before his eyes while another woman piped up "And they took my I-pod!" It was said with such lament and injustice that Tony couldn't help but be amused.
"Yes, well," whatever the agent was going to say in his defense was nixed last minute as the man changed tactics. "Of course I will keep my word Dr. Foster I will have your research returned," side eyeing the woman in the background who was making faces, "And music player. We will return to speak with you about the events that had passed." Coulson held a hand to his ear before excusing himself, "Dr. Slevig can I speak with you for a moment?" A man came over at the beckoning as Coulson's lackey followed after once he gave them a parting glance.
With that the men were gone leaving Tony, Bruce and two women standing in the New Mexico dust.
"Soo, Mr. Iron Man does the suit catch on any squishy parts?" The one with glasses asked waggling her eyebrows.
"Darcy!" Foster hissed scandalized,
"No." Bruce answered short and sweet before acknowledging Foster who was beet red, "If they do not return your things I will know." The dark words seemed to comfort the women, Darcy sighed audibly.
Stark.
Yeah?
I wish to extend a deal so to speak, her work is beyond your worlds level. SHIELD will want to recruit her. If more visitors come having her on our side is paramount.
Say no more pal. You could promise her an island and I'd give her one. Besides, one upping SHIELD is looking to be an excellent past time.
As always when Tony was serious Bruce probably thought it was a joke, that would be just his luck. Though it said a lot that Tony would do anything he asked, after all, everything Bruce has done so far has had a good reason behind it and the billionaire was known for going above and beyond for his friends.
"Dr. Foster, Ms. Lewis, Dr. Selvig if he accepts Stark has agreed to formally backing your research and studies. I believe your work will be important going forward."
This time Foster looked suspicious, "You know about my work? The Tony Stark would fund me?"
Bruce nodded, "Stark understands genius." Cocking his head he added, "Why wouldn't he want to fund something as monumental as your research?"
Dumbfounded but pleased she straightened, "In that case I accept."
The glasses girl, Darcy piped in, "Yeah we'll accept once you send us some contracts and we will happily sign after I look at the numbers. Know what I mean?" She held up a hand sign for money. Foster smacked her hand looking for all the world like she'd die of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry Iron Man, she's…" Her mouth moved as she tried to find words to explain her friend, "…Darcy."
Tony cackled not insulted in the least, he liked people with guts. Bruce nodded letting some amusement show through his tinny voice, "I understand, Stark's agents will go over the figures and any demands you wish to give forth." Although Tony could tell the amusement was manufactured for their benefit. It took more than that to amuse Bruce. They talked some more before going their separate ways.
Alone now Tony went over their day,
Wow, who knew we'd meet a god fight an alien metal thing, strike up a deal with some scientists, one up SHIELD save a city… Are you as tired as I am?
It's only noon, the day may yet hold more.
Bruce leaned against their consciousness a sharp glint to his aura.
Oh haha. It better not. Tell the rest of the day to screw itself.
Do not forget to gather parts of the metal life form for study.
Yeah I'll go now before SHIELD hogs it all.
Tony wondered if the metal was anything like what that hammer was made of or if it was another alien substance, either way, worth investigating. By now all Tony wanted to do was sleep until tomorrow, have some more nice dreams and wake up without incident. Speaking of dreams.
Hey, did you go into my dream to wake me.
No. I only called for you.
Good, good, oh that reminds me. There's this show I think you'd like. I swear it has another version of you in it!
Joy.
One word could not hold more sarcasm if one tried.
So like how did you find out he was a god?
I found the name he used before he was given a false identity.
And you just googled that shit and went, huh a god, cool beans. Just like that. Hammer+Name Thor = God.
That is how it tends to go.
…
Shit. I see my future with you and it's scary.
