Tony was tweaking a stark phone prototype when JARVIS updated him that Hawkboy would be arriving soon.
Do you want to meet him or shall I?
Iron Man or the billionaire, Tony made more sense considering 'Bruce' was a reticent guy but the agent was coming here to be looked over for compatibility or so Fury made it sound.
I wish to see how he reacts to you before we introduce him to Iron Man.
Tony put down the cell's hard drive tipping his head to acknowledge Bruce,
Yeah?
One had to nudge Bruce for him to keep speaking unless it had to do with safety or precautions.
You can find out a lot about a person based on how they interact with civilians compared to combatants.
Tony smirked,
Not to mention one is a play boy well thought of frivolous genius while the other is a respected hot topic.
Regardless, I am fond of archers.
Bruce admits casually, while he didn't give off any other obvious emotion Tony was still surprised by the admission.
Seriously?
There was no answer so Tony made his way to the kitchen. It only took a few minutes but JARVIS alerted him that their little visitor was inside and Bruce's subtle nod letting him know Hawkeye was nearby. What was it with Fury's men that had the compulsion to try and freak him out? Honestly Coulson was really pulling in the lead for favorite agent so far.
"You know, this is an approved meeting. What's with all the cloak and dagger nonsense?"
Tony turned slowly smiling vaguely as the agent who was standing closer than he expected came into view. The man rolled his eyes, files haphazardly under his arm, Coulson would pop a blood vessel the poor thing.
"Eh, for a science geek you got better senses than most." He rubbed his ear ginning. "I'm Hawkeye, I specialize in archery. Here's your stuff."
Tony wasn't expecting to get anything but nodded and motioned for it to be put on the nearby table.
Browsing through he realized it was about the Hulk, humming he gave it a more thorough look and waved towards the archer.
"Make yourself at home, eat, drink and be merry and all that…"
The man snorted and did just that going straight for his mini bar, Tony approved, finally someone not so uptight.
Nice, we have a definitive location now. Still not sure on the approach, anybody who can just waltz up to him should tip him off to the fact he's being monitored.
Better than any military personnel.
Or any armored heroes. Right.
Tony rubbed along his cheek feeling the slight stubble of where he needed to shave to keep his beards shape. Meh, it was probably best to go in as he was and be upfront about it. Thankfully they already had some safety measures set, placing the files down he asked,
"An archer huh? Any reason you chose that over the boring stuff?" Tony asked teeth flashing as the agent tops his drink with a paper umbrella, the man shrugged.
"You have more flexibility as an archer." Tony was doubtful but then he wasn't the one with a fondness for archers.
Have anything you want to ask?
No.
Short and to the point as always this guy.
You'll have to deal with him at some point ya know.
This time Bruce felt wistful so Tony let his caginess pass, returning his attention to the laid back agent who asked a question,
"Any reason why you let some dude pilot your murder suit when you apparently don't like things that go boom anymore?" Hawkeye slurped loudly, unrepentant and here Tony was trying to be civilized. Why did he think any of Fury's flock would return the favor?
Pulling out a barstool to sit on Tony stretched and put ankle to knee in one movement, smiling a plastic smile he said, "Maybe because he can get things done that I can't." Let it be heard that Tony could withstand some minor ribbing, "I certainly trust him more than any other that could take his place," already seeing the words that would come Tony added, "Yes even myself."
The other closed his mouth and gave him a grin before slurping noisily again. "Good to know."
A short hop later and the archer was sitting on his counter top, Tony made a mental note to clean it later.
"So when are we gonna dance?" Hawkeye asked kicking his legs, the guy sure was taking his hospitality for all it was worth, maybe he was scoping Tony out to see how'd he react to rudeness and general annoyances. Sadly for him Tony's dealt with worse from better meaning people even.
"I'll ask him," a flick of his wrist and his phone is out due to some tweaking the screen couldn't be seen clearly from the agents point of view or a closer one either. He tapped out his questions in case the agent could sense if he wrote nonsense.
What do you think?
Fairly arrogant for being un-agmented, typical for archers.
Tony snickered and didn't care if the guy could hear.
Is his confidence unwarranted?
Bruce seemed to tilt his consciousness,
Hard to say without properly seeing his skills in action, however he is geared more towards spymanship than the last one.
How so?
Tony got nothing, he couldn't see whatever Bruce did. All he saw was some cocky agent.
He hides his emotions well, his attitude is only half a mask rather than a blatant lie or truth.
Glancing up Tony gave the guy a once over, nope still didn't see it.
Although, a playful attitude if a bit mouthy was better than obvious distaste when you were meant to be playing a neutral part. This time the agent didn't have to hide anything, they both knew who he was but he chose to hide things anyway, very spy like. Tony'd still take this over an emotionless agent any day.
Oh? What is he really feeling then?
Wary, alert and enough carelessness to hide both.
If the guy who was picking fruit out of his drink with an ornament, swinging his feet was anything but careless Tony wouldn't believe it but he did because you believed Bruce after he proved right one too many times.
Your ability to see these things always proves to be amazing mon ami.
Tell him to meet us formally when the Tower is complete.
Tucking his phone away he let out a sigh, "He says he's looking forward to seeing just how skilled you are with a bow when our headquarters is done."
"The one in New York right?" The half smile tossed Tony's way seemed to say, 'Yeah I know all about it.' "And what, he can't tell me himself? Don't you have our numbers?" He asked with a big show of fluttering his eyes.
Tony gave him a disgruntled look not even all of it fake, "I'm his liaison and why would he interact with you lot of his own volition?" Raising a brow, none of the spies have been exactly friendly or fun to be around even this agent should know that their relations were barely amiable.
The archer raised his hands soothingly, "Hey I'm just wondering if he has a mind of his own or needs your input for everything." With a shit eating grin he got down and threw his hand out, "See ya soon then."
He left before Tony could get any last words in, making a jab at his apparent control over Bruce and maybe even hoping to put a wedge between the two. Sucks for SHIELD Bruce was sort of attached to Tony. He already put the birdbrain out of his mind.
It was now all about the man who could turn into a bigger meaner version of the Grinch. Admittedly he already had his own fondness unearned as it was toward the Doctor, after all, Tony for his own part was fond of 'Bruces'.
