Back again at the campfire after what seems to be a third death for her. It is odd, but also sad that she is getting used to death and dying. She noticed the journal and picked it up and place it on her lap.
"You're back" the familiar voice of Rebecca is heard. "How'd the trial go?"
"Rebecca, do you know a man with slick back blonde hair, a pair of sunglasses and a bunch of tentacles? I saw he had the same kind of acronym you did. S.T.A.R.S"
"Oooh. You must've had Wesker" she sits beside Rita "Thats rough."
"Can you fill me in on why is one of your teammates, I guess... a killer? Whats the story?" Rita asked
"Well its a long story. But to cut a long story short. Albert Wesker or just Wesker, was the Captain of S.T.A.R.S and we all thought he was one of us. But it turned out he was working for Umbrella, this ruthless company that made bioweapons. My team was supposed to investigate the Arklay Laboratory. But much later we found ut he was the one who sabotaged the helicopter. So the Alpha Team, the team that Wesker led, was the one who led subsequent investigation. During the event Chris was the one who found out Wesker was evil and just using the situation to test the virus... We thought he died. But turned out he was still alive. I dont know much what happened. I already got here. He and Chris have a personal vendetta and are at eachothers throats. If you want to know more about Wesker specifically, you should ask Chris"
"I take it the killers are..." whats the word she was trying to find. Monstrous? No... Wesker just proved that killers can be very human looking, and the Clown was an overweight man who just had some drugged up concoctions in his bottles. So how can she summarize them? "I take it they're all like us" she found some wording
"Well, yeah sort of. They're a wide variety. You have Trapper who's just a guy who places bear traps, then you have someone like the Dredge who's like a literal monster. They can be grotesque like the Blight, mutilated like the Artist, masked people with knives like the Legion, supernatural like the Demogorgon or just deceivingly normal looking like the Trickster." Rebecca told her
Rita thought about it, it seemed like she had her work cut out for her. Well at least she knows 2 of the killers and even in the last trial she was not totally useless. Rebecca noticed how quizzical Rita looked, she had something on her mind or was brainstorming something, so the field medic asked her what was she thinking about. Which cut Rita out of her thoughts
"I was just wondering, with Wesker, I didnt hear his heartbeat. Nothing to warn me he was a killer"
Rebecca got what she meant right away "Did he do anything before that?"
"I just heard him kick the generator."
"Aaaah, Trail of Torment. So thats what he had. After he hits a generator his presence is masked and he was undetectable. Makes sense how he caught you by surprise"
"Trail of Torment?" Rita asked
"Ah right. With all the killer, survivor and Entity talk, no one brought up perks yet."
Rita again did not know what she was talking about.
"Are you guys talking about perks?" was the sound of Claudette coming to the convesation. She joined the two by the campfire
"Pretty much. I think during all the info dump, we forgot to mention perks"
"Ah right" so they turn to Rita
"So perks are these abilities that we can unlock and use in the trials to make our escape easier. We can equip and hold 4 perks. Killers also have the ability to use perks, such as aura reading perks, slowdown perks. Which are perks that make us repair generators slower so they have more time to kill us. Tracking perks, chase perks, hex perks, obsession perks, scourge hooks, utility perks and endgame perks. We as survivors also have perks but they work opposite of the killers. We have exhaustion perks which can let us perform certain actions but will exhaust us for a while. They can be strong perks in prolonging or escaping a chase. Aura reading perks, which are like the killers. We can see auras which give us information. Support perks which allow us to help eachother more efficiently. Stealth perks which are self explanitory, utiity perks, survival perks that will defend you and increase your chances of surviving, offensive perks are perks that give us a chance to at least mildly annoy the killer and mess him up. We cant hurt them, but we can sure heck make their time hell here as well. Altruism perks help keep you and your teammate alive, anti slugging perks, boon totem perks and lastly endgame perks"
Well for Rita that was also a lot to take in, like that was a mouthful, but she got the gist of that. Killers and survivors have certain perks to help with their task in the trial.
"So how come I dont have any perks?" Rita asked
"Its because you dont have much experience yet. You'll find your perks in time" Rebecca answered
Claudette added "When we arrive in the realm we get 3 unique perks that we can teach the others. You can kinda describe them as 'super powers' the entity unlocked for us. My 3 perks are Empathy, it reveals to me the aura of survivors who are injured. Botany Knowledge which allows me to heal others more effeciently. And lastly Self Care which allows me to heal myself in a pinch."
"And you say I'll get these perks too?"
"Well not the exact same ones as either of us. You will unlock your own in time. But in the meanwhile we can teach you our perks. Although you'll only be able to use one for now" Rebecca answered
Huh that was interesting. In a time she would get her own abilities. Aura reading perks? That sounds interesting. Like what? You can see someone through walls? That sounds neat. It might be an underwhelming power in the grand scheme of things. Usually people wish they can fly as a power or do some flashy stuff. But for where she was, it sounded like information was key. Knowing where people were. That way people can coordinate without communication. Life in this afterlife was pretty interesting. Just as she was getting settled in this life, she looked at the campfire, the flames crackling, lighting the darkness. And someting else. She saw something in the fire, forming. It looked like...
Well...
While the survivors were noticing what Rita was receiving from the Entity, it looked like that someone, just beyond the campfire, in the forest and its shadows someone was watching the survivors. The killer quartet observed their prey, measuring up the newcomer that they would eventually have to cut down. Making their plans and judgement for a future trial ahead.
