Gèro was in the office of Mayor Temeroso, currently in the process of collecting his payment. The mayor placed a large bag of gold on the desk, which was then taken up by the feline bounty hunter.
Mayor Temeroso: "Here you are, then thousand gold pieces."-said the mayor, pulling out a smaller bag of coins."And here's for that Kitty Softpaws you turned in as tribute."
Gèro took the extra bag of coins, and shook it next to his ear to check the amount. He then shook his head and smacked his lips in disapproval.
Gèro: "She's worth more than that."
Mayor Temeroso: "I thought you said she was a pickpocket."-said the mayor, confused
Gèro: "A pickpocket who can rob you blind without you ever even noticing."-said Gèro, frustrated-"Now, pay up!"
The mayor sighed, and placed two more pouches of money into Gèro's paw. Gèro weighed the gold to check the amount, before giving the mayor a nod of approval. He then jumped down from the desk, and walked out the door. As he walked down the roads, Gèro caught a glimpse of Dulcinea, walking away from the orphanage, a book in her hand, and he immediately felt love struck by her. Gèro felt as if a butterfly fluttered in his chest, and as if he would melt like butter. His amber eyes were caught on her, and he felt as if he were dreaming. Without hesitation, Gèro strolled after Dulcinea.
Gèro: "Hola, mamacita. Lovely day, isn't it?"-asked Gèro, flirtatiously-"How would you be on this fine day?"
Dulcinea: "Quiet well, actually."-said Dulcinea, politely-"I don't exactly appreciate you bringing back my ex boyfriend, but other than that, it's great."
Gèro: "Well, you wanna know a little something about me?"
Puss and Kitty snuck around a house, trying to steal Gèro's cart, and get out of San Lorenzo, without being a caught. As they did not have their swords, it would be difficult if they find someone who wants to put them back in that cell, regardless, the two would not give up. They snuck around one house, and could see Gèro's horse and cart in the town square.
Puss: "There it is."
Kitty: "Wait, look!"
Kitty directs Puss' attention to see what she had seen, the two looked at Gèro, now with bags of money in his paws, and trying to flirt with Dulcinea.
Kitty: "Looks like he's hitting on your ex."-said Kitty, teasingly-"What do you think of that."
Puss: "Kitty, what did I just go over with you in that Cell?"-Puss reminded-"He can have her, you are my one true love."
Kitty giggled and playfully backhanded Puss in response to what he said. Though this was cut short as they felt the ground begin to shake. Both then and the whole town took notice of the large mole/dog monster approaching them, which Puss immediately recognize as the monster he saw in the temple.
Puss: "Come on!"-Puss instructed
Puss and Kitty then ran to the cart, which was easy to accomplish in a few seconds. Upon arriving, the two see their swords, laying down in the cart. Puss picks up his own sword, before tossing Kitty's sword to her, which she catches in an instant.
Gèro looks at the monster, as it lets out a massive, bloodcurdling roar. Upon seeing this, Gèro hauls up his money, and makes a dash for the cart, and jumps in, being met with two drawn swords at his throat. He looked and to his surprise, Puss and Kitty waited for and him with their swords.
Gèro: "Puss? Kitty?"-asked Gèro, confused-"You're supposed to be behind bars!"
Puss: "Something you should know about us, we always find a way out."-said Puss, mockingly-"Now, let's see what you have to say for yourself."
Puss and Kitty narrow their eyes, and walk a few steps closer to Gèro. As if on cue, Gèro ducked past them, and grabbed the diamond as he escaped. As Gèro left, Puss stepped on the map, and noticed an extra part on the back. He picked it up in his free paw, and looked to see a series of symbols, and almost instantly, he knew what they meant.
Puss: "It's the diamond!"
Kitty: "What?"
Puss: "The beast is after the diamond."-Puss insured-"We need the diamond to make it leave!"
Kitty then looked to the beast, and then looked to the horse that pulled the cart.
Kitty: "You go get the diamond."-Kitty instructed-"I'll distract the beast."
Puss: "Got it."-Puss understood
Puss then jumps down from the cart, and chased after Gèro on the rooftops. Kitty took the reins of the horse in her paw, and whistled, getting the attention of the monster. She then cracked the reins, and the horse took off as the monster chased her.
Puss chased Gèro over the roof tops, and surprisingly, the other cat ran fast. Puss put his sword back into his belt, and moved to all fours as he ran faster. Gèro also moved down to all fours, but was only running in three paws, as he used the fourth to still hold his earned gold. At this, Puss pounced on Gèro, knocking the two to the ground. Puss got up on one side of the roof, and drew his sword to Gèro, who was now gathering his money.
Puss: "It's over, Gèro, give me the diamond."-Puss demanded-"And while you're at it, give me back the ring."
Gèro: "Oh let me think...NO!"-Gèro refused-"If you want either of them...come and get them."
Gèro moved all the bags to his left paw, before using his right paw to draw his own sword to Puss. The two cats stood opposite each other, gripping the handles of their swords so tight, it was as if they'd never let go. The two then run towards each other, their boots making a thudding sound against the tile of the roof. With one quick motion, their swords clinked together, and a duel ensued.
Kitty rode the cart faster, and the monster rode after her as she were what it was after. Seeing it catch up, Kitty jumped from the cart, and landed on the horse's back, she then used her sword to disconnect the horse from the cart. As the monster crushed the cart, it howled in pain with the wood stuck in it's paw.
Kitty: "Take that, idiota!"-yelled Kitty, triumphantly
The monster then chased after her, but the horse now ran faster without having to pull a cart. As Kitty rode the horse, she looked up to see Puss and Gèro sword fighting on the roof tops.
Puss walked forward, swinging his sword, and clashing it with Gèro's as they both backed away. Gèro was now against the edge, before doing a backflip over Puss' head, and trying to attack him from behind, but Puss countered it, and locked their swords together.
Gèro: "Give it up!"-Gèro demanded-"You'll never beat me!"
Puss: "Wanna bet, muchacho?"-asked Puss, gloating-"I know just what to do."
Puss broke the lock, and thrusted his sword towards Gèro, who dodged the hit, and backed up. Puss then swung his sword again, but Gèro blocked with his own sword. It was then that Puss took his free paw, and unsheathed his claws, before swinging his paw towards Gèro, who dodged the hit, before Puss kicked him in the chest, sending him onto his back. Gèro's hat fell off his head, and the ring came flying out. Puss then caught the ring in his paw, and closed his fist around it.
Puss: "I'll appreciate having this back."
Gèro then pulled himself together, and put his hat back onto his head, before picking his sword back up, and drawing it to the ginger tabby. Puss drew his sword to the calico cat, and they encircled each other slightly more. Puss and Gèro continued their sword duel, and backed to each other in an effort to win. With a last ditch effort, the two tom-cats clashed their swords together, and began battling for dominance. Puss then took his paw, and delivered a punch to Gèro's side, before swiping his leg across the other tom's foot. Puss then used his sword, and knocked Gèro's away, so that it flew into the air, and stabbed into another roof. With Gèro now on one knee, Puss out his sword to the other cat's heart, as Gèro looked up at him, his face now full of fear.
Gèro: "Okay, I yield, just...don't kill me!"-Gèro begged-"I know I did wrong, but please...have mercy."
Puss looked down, and saw that Gèro had been reduced to a sniveling coward. Puss shook his head, before pulling his sword away slightly.
Puss: "I'm not going to kill you."-Puss confirmed-"However, I'll take that!"
Puss then used his sword to cut open one of Gèro's bags, and caused the diamond to fall out. Puss then took the diamond, and held it under his arm. Before leaving, Puss struck Gèro's head with the pommel of his sword, knocking the other tom-cat out cold. With no time to waste, Puss ran towards the monster to give it the diamond back. He ran and jumped over rooftops as he still held the jewel in paw. Puss in Boots jumped over the roofs, and ran across them, until eventually, he reached the roof where a monster was still chasing Kitty. Without thinking twice, Puss held up the jewel, and caused the beast to stop in it's tracks. It slowly walked to Puss, who now had the jewel in his paws.
Puss: "Listen to me, monstruo, if I give the diamond, you will leave and never return!"-Puss commanded-"Leave and never return!"
The beast nodded it's head, and held out it's massive paw towards Puss. He placed the jewel the beast's paw, before it got back down to all fours, and ran away from the town, descending off into the distance. Puss jumped down from the house, and stood in the middle of the path.
Puss: "People of San Lorenzo! I just wanted to say I'm sorry for what I did!"-Puss announced-"I meant no harm that day, just let me and Kitty go, and know that I'm sorry."
A barrel then rolled up, and the mayor's eye poked out through the hole.
Mayor Temeroso: "Well, I suppose you deserve one more chance, okay."
Artephius also walked up from the crowd, Dulcinea just by his heel.
Artephius: "Okay, I admit it, I hated hating you."-said the old man, relieved-"It's been torture."
Puss nodded gratefully, and turned his head to the familiar footsteps. Kitty ran up from behind him, now dismounted from the horse, and ran up to Puss. When arrived, Puss hugged Kitty and spun her off her feet, afterwards he sets her down and kissed her. As Puss and Kitty separated, they could see Dulcinea staring shocked at them.
Kitty: "Are you alright?"
Dulcinea: "Y-yes, I'm fine."-said Dulcinea, struggling to keep a straight face-"You two should go...right now."
Puss: "Are you sure?"-asked Puss, confused-"You don want us to help clean up?"
Dulcinea: "No...we can...handle this."
Kitty: "Are you..."
Artephius: "Just go."-said Artephius, blankly
Puss and Kitty then turn around and run for the gate of San Lorenzo. They leave the city, and we're just happy as to what they had done for the town.
Later that day, it was now dusk, and Puss and Kitty sat down together, watching the sunset. They both enjoyed the beautiful light, and the shadows that casted as the sun set on the horizon.
Puss: "You know, this is rather nice."-said Puss, happily-"We got to save a town, and finally get back to spend a little time together."
Kitty: "Sí Ginger."-Kitty agreed-"But I still have one question for you."
Puss: "What would that be, mi amor?"
Kitty: "Why exactly have been carrying this around so much?"
Kitty then held up her left paw, revealing the ring that Puss had between her thumb and pointer. Puss' eyes widen, before he takes off his hat and digs in it. Seeing that the ring was no longer there, Puss looks up confused.
Puss: "How did you..."
Kitty: "Soft paws, remember?"-Kitty reminded-"Enough avoiding this, what was it for?"
Puss placed his hat back on, and inhaled sharply to calm himself down. He then stood Kitty up, before taking the ring from her, and lowering himself down to his knee.
Puss: "Kitty, I know we haven't known each other for that long, but I feel that doesn't matter much when two people love each other."-said Puss, sweetly-"You are my first true love, and that's why I wanted to ask you this one thing."
Puss holds up the ring to Kitty, who's face now showed shock at this.
Puss: "Kitty Softpaws, will you marry me?"
Kitty smiled lightly and her eyes began to tear up with joy. Puss slowly slid the ring onto her left ring finger, still staring her in the eyes.
Kitty: "Yes!"
Puss became excited by her answer, and as he got back to his feet, he scooped Kitty up and spun her around. As Puss set Kitty down, the two kiss once again, the sun setting behind them.
To be continued...
Author's Note: Again, I know they were almost married in The Last Wish, but don't forget, I thought of this story years before The Last Wish came out, so don't expect me to tie it there at this point. Just wait and see for the outcome.
