Hawkins was formal and stiff. No variation in design. No sparks of life or color. In being friends with Jensen, she was full of sparks and colors. She had an interest in drawing, painting, and decorating the city's sidewalks. It wasn't surprising that she would find herself wanting to work with a bigger canvas.
It at first started as a joke with small tags. They were at the craft store where she bought the first can of spray paint. Her first canvas was an idle train. He had suggested she make his Hellfire Club emblem. However, he was shot down quickly as she couldn't make it noticeable it was her since it was illegal.
He shrugged and suggested a Hobbit. It was a pretty sick Hobbit. Then when boredom struck. The two would go out and find a spot she could work on a piece. He would keep watch, and give her some ideas. Mainly he would admire her as she concentrated while he worked on learning some new song on his guitar or plotting a campaign.
However, today, Jensen was feeling a bit bold.
"The Mall?" Eddie repeated.
"Yeah, when it closes."
"Bab- Jen, we won't be able to get out of that one if we're caught." Despite people thinking he was going to follow his father in his career as a criminal, Eddie had no desire to go to prison. He didn't want a record. He didn't think he would be able to handle disappointment from Wayne if that happened.
Jensen sighed and pouted for a few minutes, but he wasn't budging.
He offered a compromise. "Brimborn?"
Jensen sighed and shook his head.
"I'm not doing the mall. We will get caught."
"Whatever," Jensen said as she grabbed her skateboard.
Eddie frowned. "Where in the hell are you going?"
"Home."
She couldn't seriously be pissed that he wasn't going to be part of her delinquent scheme. He shook his head. He only followed her out to the door and watched as she trudged away on her skateboard.
Women.
. . .
Eddie felt his heart was about to break as the owner of Harold's Record informed him that they would be closing. Eddie could have wept on the street. The mall had taken away his business. Eddie took his records and cursed capitalism.
He sighed as he walked to his van. Jensen hadn't spoken to him since she left on her skateboard hours earlier. He debated if she would thaw a bit if he got her a milkshake. He shook his head. She should be thanking him. He hopped in his van and out of just curiosity he decided to make the trip to the mall.
Jensen didn't have a car and she wouldn't be that stupid to ride her skateboard out there. Unless she took a bus. Yet, it begged the question of how in the hell she would get home.
He was driving downtown when he was at the light and screamed when a body slammed into his passenger door.
"Shit!" He yelled as he eyed Jensen.
The door opened as she jumped in and immediately flew into the back. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Just drive!"
"The light is red!"
"Drive!"
"Jensen!"
His yelling was caught off as a police cruiser was idly cruising with its lights off.
"Jensen, what the hell did you do?"
The cruiser saw him idling at the light and immediately its sirens went off as they pulled up. Eddie rolled his eyes. "I'm going to kick your ass, Jensen."
He squinted as the cop flashed the light directly in his eyes as he approached.
"Edward Munson, what are you doing out so late?" Officer Powell asked.
"Was at Howard's picking up some records," Eddie informed him cheerily. "How can I help you, Officer?"
"Well, we've been seeing a lot of graffiti popping up lately. Caught someone tagging Hagan's Print shop. From what I heard, you and the son got into a fight a couple of months ago?"
"And you think I just vandalized it?" Eddie asked. He knew people sprouted weird rumors about him, but he couldn't teleport.
"Maybe not you, but your girlfriend has a knack for getting vengeance, I heard."
Eddie's eyebrows shot up to his hairline. He mouthed the word girlfriend. "Erm, I don't have a girlfriend. At least that I was aware of, sir."
Powell narrowed his eyes. His flashlight shone inside his van. "You know where I can find Jensen?"
Eddie shrugged. "Probably her house. Did you try there?"
Powell didn't say anything before he walked back to his squad car. Eddie flashed him a smile as the light turned green. Eddie made the turn to head back to his trailer.
"You're clear," Eddie grumbled.
Jensen startled him when she planted a wet kiss on his cheek before she got comfortable in the passenger seat. "So I'm your girlfriend now?"
"Well, you are a girl and a friend."
Jensen snickered.
His fingers tapped against the steering wheel. "So?"
"So?" Jensen echoed.
Eddie growled. He swore Jensen just loved ticking him off. She loved pushing his buttons.
Jensen giggled. "I did a nice guy in a latex suit who had a nametag with the name Tommy, who is very lonely and horny."
Eddie chuckled. "You get to finish it?"
"Most of it."
Eddie nodded his head.
"Can I stay the night?"
"Doesn't your dad already think you're staying with me?" Eddie asked knowingly.
Jensen didn't reply as she turned up his stereo.
