"Where were you Daphne?" A worried voice calls out as Daphne enters the fifth year female dormitory. The creek of the door closing slices through the short silence hanging after the question. Looking around, Daphne sighs as she sees Tracy sitting on her bed, alert from hearing the door open.
"The library. Where else would I be?" Daphne responds as she sits on her own bed. Flicking her wand, Daphne's book bag soars from under her bed and lands on the nightstand next to her bed. Waving her wand another time, a small book and quill fly out of the bag and land in her lap.
"Yeah right. I just came from there. Where were you really?" Tracy presses as she hugs a pillow, resting her head tiredly. Daphne rolls her eyes, slides her legs across the mattress, and stands up. Striding towards a desk on the other side of the bed, she sits down and uncorks the ink bottle already set on the desk.
"I had a… detour." Daphne hesitates. The scratching of her quill fills the air as she glides her quill across the empty page.
"Be like that, we both know I'll get the answer out of you!" Tracy huffs as she tosses her pillow to the end of the bed before she lays down, pulling the covers over herself.
Rolling her eyes at her friend, Daphne looks down and smiles at her writing, her elegant calligraphy strokes filling the page. Hearing loud chatting from the hall, Daphne flicks her wand towards her bag. The quill wraps itself in a bundle of old parchment before falling into the bag as the book slides itself through the closing top.
Waving her wand over herself as she stands up and walks towards her bed, Daphne's robe slides off her body, flies to a hanger above her nightstand, and a sleeping gown wraps itself around her body. Yawning and sliding onto her bed, Daphne flicks her wand a final time to extinguish the lights as the door opens once more.
Drifting into her dreams, Daphne hears whispers from Pansy and Millicent. Too tired to focus on the conversation, Daphne only overhears "Potter… First task… Can't compete."

"Since you all need to prepare for the dark arts, I want sixteen inches of parchment due on the twenty-third, or one week from now, about three courses covered in the textbook of your choice. Oh, and Potter! Stay back will you?" Moody barks over the crowd of the fourth year class as the bell rings throughout the castle.
Halting at the door, Harry turns around and slowly walks towards Professor Moody. Raising his wand, Moody calls out, "Accio!" Two chairs fly towards the front of the classroom before setting down gently on the floor as Professor Moody limps to one of them. "Sit, Potter," Moody growls as he lets out a groan and sits down in the chair, the wood creaking under him.
"So, Potter, have you thought of the first task at all?" Moody grunts out as he flicks his wand towards the door, shutting it.
Shaking his head, Harry replies meekly, "N… not really sir, I haven't got a clue what to prepare or what to even research."
His magical eye whirling around, Moody lets out a barking chuckle, responds, "Fair enough Potter. Well, as I am a fair teacher, I will not help you!" Harry lowers his head. His face falls. "But! That does not mean I won't give advice to a student with a problem!"
Harry opens his mouth to speak, his face lighting up once more before Moody cuts him off, "You'll find that the object you'll need to focus on during the task is a large ovoid-like object that is charmed like a snitch, good luck Potter!" As Moody calls out Harry's name, he stands up and limps towards the door, flicking his wand to pull the door open magically.
Hunched over and thinking alone in the classroom, Harry suddenly shouts, "Daphne!" Bolting up, Harry darts into the hallway in search of his blonde friend.
Panting as he runs through the halls, jeers and taunts shot his way by the students he passes, Harry bolts out of the doors to the main courtyard. Running across the bank of the lake, Harry reaches the giant willow tree where he sees Daphne sitting against the trunk while reading a book.
Looking up as she hears Harry's panting, Daphne closes her book slowly, placing her thumb between the pages as a bookmark, asks, "What's got you all winded?"
"First task, someone gave me advice," Harry responds as he kneels over, his heart rate slowing down.
"Advice? Well don't keep me waiting, spill!" Daphne exclaims with a hint of excitement laced in her voice.
"Something about the object being charmed like a snitch and being cylindrical," Harry pants out as he sits down on the lush, soft grass.
"Charmed like a snitch? I doubt it has to do with flying as that would be unfair for Delecor as Diggary, Krum, and yourself are both seekers," Daphne mutters aloud as she continues, "Charmed like a snitch you say? I doubt Madam Hooch will help you, maybe it's a trip to Hogsmeade to visit to Spintwitches Sporting Needs and have a chat with Mr. Weekes."
Raising his eyebrow, Harry replies, "And when will we have the time for that? The next Hogsmeade weekend is in December."
Rolling her eyes, Daphne responds, "We walk of course, it's quite a lovely walk over to Hogsmeade. You did know that students can visit the village during their freetime starting fourth year and above, yes?"
"I, wait what? Students can?" Harry sputters out in shock.
"Mhm! Quite useful you know, a nice butterbeer Friday evening does wonders to one's sanity you know." Daphne hums as she opens her book again and gazes at the pages.
"Maybe you and I could ask Mr. Weekes for some advice later this week. Friday or Saturday, perhaps?" Harry asks as he gazes into the cloudy sky above them.
"It's a date, then! Saturday works, meet me in the Great Hall at nine in the morning to ensure we have the entire day," Daphne responds, her attention already focused back on her book."
Sputtering, Harry objects, "Date? No, no! I just—I mean—" Daphne cuts him off as she looks up and responds, "Just meant date as in planning. Merlin, we've only just become acquaintances? Friends?"
Flushed red, Harry nods and shyly states, "Friends," before standing up and walking back towards the castle. Unknown to Harry, Daphne's face dusts pink across her cheeks as she pulls her legs into her chest, dips her head down into her book, and drapes her hair over the sides of her face to ensure no one sees her embarrassment.

Waking up in the abandoned room at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning, Harry yawns out, "Dobby?" as he picks up 'Basics of Magical Control and Implementations for Wizarding China' to continue the sixth chapter.
Seconds later, Dobby materializes in the front of the room with a loud pop. Eyes wide, as always when seeing Harry, Dobby asks, "What can Dobby do for you, sirs?"
Looking up and smiling, Harry replies, "Good morning Dobby, could I get a plate of fruit and some toast with strawberry jam and some tea?"
Nodding and bowing, Dobby snaps his fingers, disappearing before reappearing with a tray of the ordered food laid upon it. Snapping his fingers a second time, the tray levitates from his hand onto one of the many desks, Dobby bows once more before snapping a final time, disappearing with a pop.
Scarfing his food down, Harry opens the book he'd grabbed before eating breakfast and sits in a chair, the light of the windows shining onto the pages.
'A healthy body leads to a healthy mind, which leads to better focus academically, spiritually, and magically. Your magic will reflect your body and vice versa. Ensure the quality of your body is upheld to maintain the peak of your magical abilities.'
Thinking slightly, Harry shuts his book and quickly changes his clothes into his school shirt and pants. Grabbing the book and slipping his wand into his sleeve, Harry quietly exits the room and walks towards the Great Hall.
Mind wandering, Harry pays no attention to the few students awake walking the halls, the jeers and taunts towards him slip into one ear and out the other. Pushing the old wooden doors open, Harry is met with the cool autumn wind nipping at his face and neck as he steps down the stairs and into the courtyard.
Walking down to the boathouse, Harry admires the wildlife around him, leaping toadstools jumping from the ground, lacewing flies gathering near bushes, the birds singing and chirping.
Harry stretches his legs on the cold stone of the boathouse, then, breathing slowly and deeply, Harry starts to jog, gripping the book near his chest as he takes the paths along the bank of the Black Lake.
Mind wandering throughout his jog, Harry closes his eyes as the breeze sails through the air, the trail of sound flowing into his ears calming his anxiety about the First Task. Panting slightly, Harry's mind focuses on his wand work. The flashes of light and the shouts of his housemates scarring his mind after all this time.
Grunting slightly, Harry stops as he feels his heart beating fast, his breath growing ragged before he stops, kneeling over the water to see his reflection.
Looking up, Harry frowns as he realizes he only achieved a fourth, at best, of the distance around the lake. Closing his eyes, he lets out a large sigh before opening them once more, looking around and analyzing his surroundings.
Spotting a rock, Harry strides over and opens 'Basics of Magical Control and Implementations for Wizarding China' to 'Chapter Seven, Basic Spells'.
Looking at the list, Harry's eyes widen as he reads at the top. 'Hindi, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and many more cultures and their spells are featured in this book. This chapter will focus on Japanese, Korean, and Chinese spellwork. Further instruction of Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Hindi can be found in chapters ten, eleven, and twelve.'
Reading further, Harry spots the instructions for casting Chinese, Japanese, and Korean spells. Raising his wand, he continues to gaze at the pages. 'Focus on the pure magical energy around you. Raise your instrument of magic and let it guide your magic through it. The end point of this instrument should glow a color if you are focusing. Draw the character of the spell to cast the magical power. Once drawn, pull your instrument back, and push it outwards from your body.'
Looking through the list within the book, Harry spots a spell that catches his attention, a Korean character of 창. Glancing at the information next to the spell, Harry reads, '창 - Spear in Korean. Casts a bolt of pure magical energy. Very powerful.'
Raising his wand, Harry closes his eyes, focusing. The breeze falls down, the air around Harry still. Focused on casting the spell, he feels an energy course through his body as he opens his eyes. A golden glow is seen emitting from the tip of his wand.
Holding his wand tightly and gulping, Harry starts to write with his wand in the air, his wand leaving streaks of gold through the air. With his final stroke of his wand, Harry pulls his arm back before jabbing his wand at the symbol. Instead of casting a magical spell, the symbol of gold flickers before disappearing in the air. Confused and panting, Harry reads the page again.
'Focus during the whole process. Let the magic guide you, do not control the magic, let it flow through you.'
Raising his wand once more, Harry draws the Korean character once more. Instead of flickering, the golden character shines brightly as Harry finishes his final stroke of his wand. Pulling his arm back, Harry pushes his wand forward, allowing the magic around him to conjure the character into a magical object.
The characters in the air flicker before shining brightly once more, then it turns into a jet of golden light, sailing towards a nearby rock. Striking the rock, the spear of light emits a golden glow before disappearing, the rock left behind with a hole in it.
Grinning, Harry picks up the book once more, reading, 'The size of the character does not matter. Focus on your magic, within time, you will be able to write quickly and cast quickly. These characters are the simplest form of spell casting within the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dialect. Constant practice may ensure a magical person can cast without the drawing of characters.'
Intrigued, Harry glances at the list of spells once more before reading, '盾 - Shield in Chinese. Casts a protective barrier of magic that protects the caster from most magical and physical attacks.'
The familiar feeling of magic coursing through his body reappears as Harry focuses on casting the spell. Glowing, though flickering still, Harry pushes his wand through the Chinese character. Unlike before, a dark green character is drawn through the air before Harry activates the magic. Pressing his wand through the magical character, the spell disappears as a barrier radiating dark green energy appears in front of Harry.
Panting from the amount of effort from casting the two spells, Harry calls Dobby and asks for more tea. Drinking his tea, Harry reasons that the spell might be useful and he will continue to practice.
Setting his book down, Harry calls Dobby and asks him to remind him to return to the castle at half past eight.
-Line Break-
Time passes as Harry wears himself down through the intensive magical practice. The toll of the spells drains his magical energy.
He hears a pop as Dobby appears to remind Harry to return to the castle. Nodding, Harry grabs his book and stores his wand in his sleeve once more as he walks back to the boathouse. Climbing the stairs, Harry fails to realize that three Slytherin boys were watching him walk the stairs.
"Oi, Scarhead! Looking at the boats and thinking about home?" Draco gloats as he sneers down at him.
Looking up and frowning, Harry responds, "Shove it Malfoy," before he pushes past Draco and enters the courtyard.
Pulling his wand, Draco sputters, "How dare you speak to me like that you filthy half-blood!" Raising his wand, Draco nods at Crabb and Goyle. Both brutish boys raise their own wands as Harry turns and slips his wand out, raising it as well.
Seeing Draco pull his arm back, Harry, his practice with the Chinese shield fresh in his mind, focuses his magic into his wand. Dropping the book onto the ground, Harry points his wand at Draco.
A dark, dirty green color streaks through the air quickly as a small Chinese symbol glows in the air as Harry flicks his wrist quickly. Pushing his wand forward, the green glow flows through the courtyard as Draco screams, "Stupefy!"
The shield of magic conjured by Harry glows brighter as the stunning spell slams against the shield, creating a loud bang. Students walking past turn to look at the four boys facing off in the courtyard. Onlookers look in shock as they see Harry standing with a shield in front of him, the green glow pulsing in the center of the courtyard as around him, his hair flares wildly in the air as his wand tip glows darkly.
Confused, Draco raises his wand once again and shouts, "Get him!" The three Slytherins barrage the shield with multiple spells, their shouts ringing for fractions of a second before the sound of spells slamming against the shield echoes in the courtyard.
Harry, panting after each spell impacting his shield, widens his eyes as he realizes the shield flickers each time a spell contacts the shield.
A shout of "Bombarda!" fills the air as Draco fires one last spell, himself and the other two Slytherins panting from their barrage of spells cast towards Harry.
The explosive spell detonates after striking the shield, the force from the impact causing the shield to flicker as Harry is blasted onto the ground from the explosion. Standing up, Harry spits to the side and wipes his mouth with his sleeve before raising his wand, his eyes flaring green in rage.
Frowning, Draco raises his own wand as Crabb and Goyle prepare to cast once more. A collective shout from the three boys fills the air as their spells soar towards Harry. Before impacting him, Harry instinctively draws the Korean character for the spear.
Another golden glow shines as a bolt of light gold strikes the three spells, a beam of magic releasing from the four students' wands. Gasping is heard around the onlookers, as from the sky, golden strands of magic strike Harry's wand. Filled with magical energy, Harry screams as he pushes his wand forward, the power of his magic coursing through his arm into his wand as the beam of magic shines white in the center, the three spells colliding with the asian spell retreating back to their users.
Panicking, the three Slytherins flick their wands away from each other; the spell lock breaking from the four duellers' wands as the force of the spells crack the stone in the courtyard where the magic connected with the castle.
"What the devil is happening here!" A sharp shout echoes throughout the courtyard. Professor McGonagall swiftly strides towards the four fourth years as the students who watched the fight clear out of the courtyard, returning to walking to their destinations.
"I have never! You four! My office! Tonight! And thirty points from all of you!" Professor McGonagall huffs as she glares at the four boys. Draco mutters something to Crabb and Goyle before the three Slytherins sulk back into the castle. Giving an indifferent look towards Harry, Professor McGonagall turns on her heels quickly and stalks off after the three boys back into the castle.
"That was… very impressive." Harry hears as he turns to see Daphne leaning on one of the stone pillars, smiling at him.
Rubbing his neck, Harry smiles back and responds tiredly, "Thanks." Harry walks over to Daphne, exhausted, and he slips his wand into his sleeve once more.
Looking around for his book, he panics as he doesn't see it. Smirking slightly, Daphne shoves the book into his side as she teases, "Looking for this?"
Face turning scarlet for a second, Harry nods and opens his mouth, about to ask a question before Daphne cuts him off and replies, "Summoning charm, learned it a couple days ago to keep ahead in charms."
Nodding and grabbing his book, Harry asks, "So… Hogsmeade?" Nodding, Daphne grabs Harry's free arm and replies simply as Harry stares at her, "You don't know the way. Who knows, you might get lost if you're not guided and end up using some wack magic somehow."
Chuckling slightly, Harry gestures for her to lead the way.
