Hi All. Welcome to chapter three of Potter Kind: Memoirs. This is the first in a series of stories that will all be under the umbrella of Potter Kind, I hope to write new stories for this series frequently. This series was inspired by some works by a writer who used to be on this site but doesn't put her work out there because of some negative feedback sadly. This story is complete and was written as a one shot, but I decided it was too long to be a one shot, so I've split it into six small chapters for you. Updates should be weekly unless something drastic happens. Don't forget if you haven't already, make sure to go onto your profile and opt in for email notifications if you want to be notified each time that I put a new chapter/story up.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Castor Charlus Potter and Jennifer Euphemia Potter are my own original character, but all other recognisable characters belong to J K Rowling, I just like to use them to do my bidding.
Series Summary: We know from the Black Tapestry that Dorea Black married Charlus Potter and they had a son. What if Charlus was James Potter's Father Fleamont Potter's brother? What if James had a little sister? What if Harry had other family members who could have taken him in and raise him? This is the story of the last three Potters.
Story Summary: This is the story of how Castor, Jennifer, and Harry became the last three Potters. James Potter's AU backstory, how he came to have a cousin and little sister. AU, two OC's, JamesXLily, DoreaXCharlus, FleamontXEuphemia, Marauders Era Fic. Warnings inside.
Warning: This story involves character death, is AU and has two OC's, also contains mentions of, though no actual description of, parental spankings. Don't like, don't read.
A huge, huge thank you to my amazing Beta who has been an amazing support in writing this. Yes, I am trying my hardest to turn her into a Harry Potter Fan. Without her support and guidance, I don't know if I'd have written this.

Cas pulled back from the hug, refusing to break down and start crying again. Thinking of his parents still hurt, though he was eternally grateful to James and Lily for stepping up and taking him in. They had no obligation to do so, maybe to take in Jenny, Jenny was James' biological sister, but not him. However, despite the fact they hadn't even graduated Hogwarts any more than a month ago, they hadn't hesitated to take them both in.
Flashback
It felt weird to be back here at Hogwarts again. He'd taken the train ride home yesterday, yet now he was back to see his big brothers, Remus, Peter, Lily, Alice, Dorcas, and Marlene graduate. He pulled a face seeing James and Lily kissing.
"I know sickening isn't it," Sirius complained. "Oi, knock it off, some of us don't want to puke up all over our robes thanks," he called to the pair, lobbing a packet of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum at them.
James didn't break his kiss, just flipped off his best friend come brother.
"James!" Charlus rebuked sharply.
That stopped James quick, and he almost leapt away from Lily, "sorry," he muttered, rubbing his neck as his face flushed a little.
Jenny giggled at her one of her big brothers getting told off.
"Oh, you think that's funny do you munchkin," James growled playfully.
Jenny nodded, "yuh huh," she declared cheekily.
"Why I oughta!" James gasped mock outraged and moved towards his little sister.
Jenny squeaked and ran to Lily, hiding behind her robes, "save me!" She pleaded.
Lily hadn't expected James' letter last summer, apparently Remus couldn't keep his mouth shut and had told him she'd been asking questions about his sudden personality change. He offered to meet and talk to her, saying that at minimum he owed her an apology. Curiosity did kill the cat, but Lily was burning to know why James suddenly seemed like a different person, so she accepted the offer. Her heart broke for the tragedy James had endured, losing both his parents like that. She felt a little awful for her previous thoughts and wanted to apologise, even though James couldn't have possibly known what she'd been thinking.
James had further shocked Lily by apologising for how he'd treated her the previous years. Explaining self-deprecatingly that he'd been a moronic little burk and never should have been so disrespectful to ask her out over and over again. He'd taken her hand and stared directly into her eyes and said she was the most wonderful witch it had ever been his pleasure to know, and he would never be worthy of her, but he wished her all the best for her future and promised never to ask her out again. The words had slipped out before she'd even been consciously aware she was thinking them and she'd asked, 'what if I want you to?'
James would have been less shocked if Lily had slapped him, actually he almost half expected a slap, it was far more likely than this. He wondered if perhaps Sirius had slipped him a Draught of Delusion? Despite his doubts he'd licked his lips nervously and asked if she did? Lily's little nod was all he needed and, feeling like his heart might just explode in his chest, he'd asked out the girl he'd had a crush on since he'd met, though he'd only understood that he liked her from his third year.
Lily had said yes, and they'd been together since. They'd exchanged lots of letters over the summer holidays and went on some amazing dates. James had happily introduced her to his family, though she'd laughed when he introduced Sirius, 'well you already know this reprobate, but just in case you're unsure, he's my brother.' She couldn't help but fall in love with Jenny, she was utterly adorable, the inky jet-black hair that looked like a bird's nest on James, fell in long beautiful curls on Jenny.
Lily chuckled and picked up James' little sister. "Don't worry, I've got you Princess," she assured the little girl.
James looked at his girlfriend, hopefully soon to be fiancée, and pouted, "aww how can I stay mad at two of my favourite witches? You don't play fair," he complained playfully.
They were called up then, Lily handed Jenny over to Dorea with a smile.
"You know, he really loves you," Dorea told her approvingly.
Lily blushed and glanced over at James who was making his way over to the stage, "I really love him too," she murmured back. If anyone had told her, even just last year, that she'd be in love with James Potter, she'd order them to St Mungo's for a full evaluation, but he'd changed, really changed, and she loved him with her whole heart. She hurried to join the line of her classmates and peers graduating, glancing down the line to give James a smile, she wasn't sure why, but he seemed a little nervous.
James blushed when Dumbledore read out his achievements at Hogwarts, even now it was a little hard for him to believe that he'd been made Head Boy. The jury was still out on whether Dumbledore had been sniffing potions when he'd made that decision, but he had worked hard to be worthy of the title… plus it let him spend even more time with Lily and that was never a bad thing.
After the newly graduated seventh years threw their caps in the air, James rushed to Lily, and in front of everyone, he dropped to one knee and bought out his mother's ring. "There's so much I could say that will sound horrifically cheesy and embarrassing for pretty much everyone here, but know this Lily Evans, I still don't think I'm quite worthy of you, but you make me want to be. I know I'm an idiot and I doubt that'll change, but if you'll have me, I'd love nothing more than to be your idiot. Will you marry me?"
Lily stared at her boyfriend gobsmacked, "James Potter, you absolute prat," she laughed as she felt tears welling up in her eyes. They were tears of joy though, so she nodded her head, "yes, yes you idiot. Merlin help me, but I'll marry you," she agreed.
It sounded like the whole hall whooped with delight again, though it could have just been the Gryffindors as they weren't known to be a quiet bunch. Sirius, Remus, and Peter proceeded to pounce on James and congratulate him, whilst Alice, Marlene, and Dorcas squealed in delight for Lily.
Cas ran over to his brothers to congratulate James and ask Lily if she was absolutely sure.
Charlus and Dorea made their way over and hugged Lily, welcoming her to the mad house, or rather family.
Jenny cheered in delight that Lily was going to be her sister now, thrilled to be finally getting a sister.
The newly graduated teens, and Frank Longbottom, Alice's betrothed who had graduated two years before them, went out to celebrate not only the fact that they had graduated, but also James and Lily's engagement. The girls and Frank called it a night before the Marauders had and that was definitely a good thing, because Charlus had to come and help his sons and their friends break out of muggle prison and remove the memories of all the muggle policemen. He was extremely unhappy with his boys and let them know, in no uncertain terms, as he blistered both their bottoms once he got them home and Dorea had given them a hangover cure.
James and Sirius had then set about searching for a place they could share with Remus, Peter, Lily, and each other. It was hard finding somewhere they all liked, but finally they found a nice six-bedroom place.
Cas asked his brothers why they needed a six-bedroom place.
"Well, you need a room for when you stay over don't you?" James had pointed out.
"Yeah, and James needs a room for when he pisses off Lily and she kicks him out of their bed," Sirius added.
"Funny Pads, real funny," James deadpanned. Then after a pause he continued, "I mean you're not wrong, but it's a bit tactless to say as much."
They finally got the keys on the 21st of July and moved in together. Remus slightly reluctantly as he pointed out he likely wouldn't be able to contribute to the house's finances, but Sirius and James insisted they needed him there and that he was moving in with them.
They had only been living together for a week when Cas' world was destroyed. He was at home, just relaxing, when a strange noise he'd never heard started blaring through the house.
"It's the ward alarm!" Charlus shouted. "Take Jenny, get to the emergency portkey, and go! Your mother and I will follow once you're clear!" He ordered. They were in the middle of a war, they had contingency plans, the portkey would take Cas and Jenny to James and Sirius' place where Charlus knew they'd be safe.
Cas didn't waste a second, he scooped up his little sister and ran for his bedroom. He had never expected to have to use the emergency portkey, but he grabbed it up, "Emergency! Emergency! Emergency!" He yelled desperately. The feeling of a hook going into his naval was reassuring.
James was relaxing on the sofa with Lily's head in his lap, running his fingers through her hair, listening to the disastrous attempts of Sirius trying to cook, sharing amused looks with Remus at the unending stream of swearing coming from the kitchen. Lily and Remus were the only ones who could actually cook well enough not to give them all food poisoning, but they insisted they all needed to learn. He had no idea where Peter was, he suspected Peter had met a girlfriend and was too embarrassed to say anything knowing they'd tease him, which was spot on, they definitely would, so he didn't blame Peter for sneaking off to try and keep it a secret. He was starting to believe they'd probably have to order take out tonight, as whatever Sirius was attempting to cook was not smelling at all edible, let alone appetising, when suddenly Cas and Jenny landed in his living room.
Immediately there was pandemonium as everyone shouted at once, trying to figure out what was happening.
Finally, Remus let out a loud noisemaker, "we're not going to be able to get any answers by shouting. Sirius, go back to the kitchen and put out the fire before you burn the whole house down around us," he ordered. He nodded at James letting him know he could question Cas.
James rushed to Cas and Jenny, "are you both okay? What happened? Why are you here? Why did you use the emergency portkey? Where are Uncle Charlus and Aunt Dorea?"
"We're fine, we're fine. Dad said the ward alarm went off. He told me to grab Jenny and get the emergency portkey. He said they would be right behind us," Cas explained, starting to get tearful as the adrenalin left his system and fear took its place.
Sirius returned from the kitchen having put out the fire. "Shit, what do we do?" He asked.
"We wait, they said they would follow right behind, so… so we wait for them. Who knows, they might have been able to contact the Aurors and get some help," Lily answered.
No one wanted to say it, but the very real and terrifying possibility that it had been Death Eaters, or maybe even You Know Who himself, was on all their minds. So, they waited, and waited, no one bothered with dinner, though Lily did make Jenny a sandwich when she said she was hungry, no one else had any kind of appetite. They all sat together and waited for news, any news, all hoping that Charlus and Dorea would be okay.
Lily took Jenny up to bed around one am when it appeared no one else was going to go to bed, tucking her into hers and James' bed before returning downstairs and waiting. She didn't suggest Cas go to bed, despite the fact he was only thirteen, she doubted he'd get any sleep even if he tried at the moment.
They waited all night, watching the Floo and hoping for some kind of message that all was okay, but when the sun rose and they'd still not heard anything, they knew whatever news was coming, it wouldn't be good.
Remus answered the knock at the door, stepping aside to allow the Auror in after she confirmed this was the residence of James Potter.
Amelia hated this part of the job, it was by far the worst aspect of being an Auror, she'd rather have to do any amount of paperwork than do this. Seeing Castor Potter sat on the sofa, sandwiched between James Potter and Sirius Black was the best sight she could see right now. "Is Jennifer Potter here too?" She asked, unable to keep the pleading note from her voice.
James knew this was bad, really bad but he nodded, "yeah, they arrived yesterday evening by emergency Portkey," he answered thickly.
"My Mum and Dad… they are okay right?" Cas pleaded.
Amelia shook her head sadly, "I'm sorry Mr Potter."
"No! No! No!" Cas cried.
James and Sirius immediately wrapped their arms around their little brother and held him as he thrashed and screamed in their arms, holding him until he wore himself out and finally just collapsed into heart wrenching sobs.
Sirius gently extracted himself, letting James hold and comfort Cas, "can I go and collect some of their things? They couldn't bring anything."
"I'm sorry Mr Black, there's nothing to collect. They used Fiendfyre, we thought Castor Potter and Jennifer Potter had perished in the flames as well," Amelia informed him.
Sirius rocked back as if struck and collapsed onto the sofa again.
"Do you need me to contact Wizarding Child Services for you? See if there's someone who can take in Castor and Jennifer, at least temporarily?" Amelia offered as kindly as she could.
James's head jerked up at that, "are you mad? No. I'm of legal age, Cas and Jenny are my siblings, they are staying with me. I will take up the mantle of Lord Potter right now if it makes you feel better, but Cas and Jenny are staying with me," he insisted firmly.
Sirius nodded in agreement, he didn't have the familial claim on Cas and Jenny that James had but he was in full agreement with his brother.
Amelia allowed herself a small smile at the blatant display of sibling loyalty, James might have had tears running down his face, but she had no doubts of his conviction. "No, you're quite alright, I can see they are both well taken care of here. You will have to go to Wizarding Child Services to make the guardianship permanent, but there's no rush for that," she assured them. "Charlus and Dorea Potters' bodies were not destroyed. They are being examined to discover the exact cause of death at the moment, but you'll receive an owl when you can collect them for a funeral," she explained. "I'll see myself out, I'm so sorry for your loss," she finished.
Flashback over
It had all but crushed Cas, losing his parents and every single thing he owned. Though James and Sirius had replaced all the material items, there were things he'd never be able to get back, pictures, sentimental items, and most of all his parents. James though had stepped up and really been a parent to him, Sirius had remained the fun big brother, but James had stepped into the role of surrogate father like he was born to it.
James and Lily had also stepped up their marriage plans, they hadn't wanted a long engagement, a year before they got married had sounded about right, but with the world they knew at war, it didn't make sense to wait. They'd married just thirty-five days after the loss of Charlus and Dorea, barely two weeks after their funeral. After getting married James took on the mantel of Lord Potter and moved them into Potter Manor, which was about as secure of a place as it was possible to be. Despite this, he still made sure they all had personal emergency portkeys that they wore around their necks at all times, just in case. Cas had found out quickly that at all times, meant at all times, yes, even when in the bath when James had found him not wearing his. James had given Cas the worst spanking he had ever given him, though it wasn't saying too much as James had only spanked him a tiny handful of times, mostly during his final year at Hogwarts when he caught him doing something he shouldn't and had spanked him in lieu of giving him an official school punishment.
