It was a Monday at two o'clock in the morning. Alexandria was awakened by Shawn crawling into bed with her with his blanket and pillow.

"What's wrong Shawn?" She asked.

"I'm sick mommy." He said in a hoarse voice. "It hurts."

She knew he was sick, the only time he called her mommy anymore was when he was. "What does, your throat?"

"Yeah." "I'm hot."

She felt his head. "You're burning up." She felt his glands. They were swollen. She got out of bed. "I'll get the thermometer." She went and got the thermometer and Children's Tylenol and came back. She put the thermometer in his ear. His temperature was 102.2. "You have a fever." "Sit up and open your mouth." He sat on the edge of the bed and opened his mouth. His throat was all red. "You're throat's red." She gave him the Tylenol.

"Ow!" He said when he swallowed.

They laid down. "I'll call the doctor tomorrow." He snuggled up to like he used to do when he was a baby. She kissed his forehead. "It's ok baby."

The next morning they went to the doctor.

"You have tonsillitis Shawn." The doctor said. "You'll need a tonsillectomy."

"Surgery?" He asked.

"Yes."

He shook his head no.

"It'll be ok." Alexandria said.

"I'll arrange for him to be admitted Children's Hospital at seven tonight." The doctor said looking at Alexandria. "His surgery will most likely take place tomorrow morning." "He'll need about a week to recover and will only be able to eat soft foods the first few days."

Alexandria and Shawn had just gotten in the car. Alexandria called Sam to update him.

"Hello?" Sam said.

"Hi." Alexandria said.

"Hi." "How's he doing?"

"He needs a tonsillectomy." "He's never had surgery before." "He's afraid."

"When is the surgery?"

"Tomorrow." "I have to take him to Children's Hospital at seven tonight."

"What's his recovery time?"

"A week."

"I'm gonna call my boss and take the rest of the week off work." "That way you won't have to miss work." "I'll stay with Shawn."

"Ok."

"I'll come down to the hospital tonight." "I wanna surprise him." "Don't tell him I'm coming."

"Ok."

"I wanna talk to him."

Alexandria handed Shawn the phone.

"Hello?" Shawn said still hoarse and in pain.

"Hi." Sam said.

"Hi Sam."

"You sound awful."

"I don't feel good."

"I know." "Your mom told me about the surgery."

"I don't wanna do it." "I'm scared."

"I know but after you do it you'll be all better." "It's gonna be ok."

Later that night Alexandria, Caleb and Shawn were at the hospital.

"Mom, I want Sam." Shawn said.

"We'll call him before you go to bed."

Caleb looked at his phone. "I have to get back to the office." He said. He hugged Shawn. "Don't worry Shawn you're gonna be just fine."

"I'm gonna walk Caleb to his car." Alexandria said. "I'll be right back."

Alexandria and Caleb were standing by his car.

"I was thinking about telling Sam he can stay in one of the guestrooms." "I'm sure Shawn will want him close."

"That's fine." "I trust you." They kissed. "Call me when he gets out of surgery."

"I will." "I love you."

"I love you too." "Bye."

"Bye."

Back in the hospital as Alexandria was waiting for the elevator she heard Sam say.

"Lexie."

She looked over. "Hi."

"Hi." They got on the elevator. Alexandria pressed the button for Shawn's floor.

"To make things easier on you, you can stay with us in one of the guestrooms if you want."

"Caleb doesn't care?"

"No." "We already talked about it."

"Ok."

They went into Shawn's room.

"Surprise." Sam said. Shawn instantly smiled. They hugged. "How to do feel?"

"Bad."

"While you get better we're gonna hang out for the whole week." "I'm staying at your house in the guestroom."

"Cool."

The next morning they were wheeling Shawn to the OR. They stopped just outside the doors.

"It'll be over before you know it." Alexandria said. "I'll be right here when you wake up." She kissed his cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too." Shawn said.

"It's ok Shawn." Sam said. "I'm gonna tell you something I never have before." "I love you." "Is that alright?"

"Yeah." He hugged him. They took him through the doors.
