Sleepless Nights Day 7

They went home after school. The rest of the day went well and then it was time for bed.

"Alright Amí, it's time for bed. " Damian said.

"But I don't wanna sleep yet." Amethyst whined, and right then Damian knew this was going to be a long night.

"Amí, you need to sleep, you have stuff you have to do tomorrow. If you don't sleep you're going to be tired and you'll miss out. Remember, you're going to Arí and my classes." He tried in vain to give her incentive to sleep. That just made her even more excited. Trying to put an excited seven year old to sleep is a challenge and a half.

"Can you read me a story?" She asked.

"Yes, but then you need to go to sleep." Damian replied. After she had picked a story out, he settled her in his lap and read to her. Her eyes were drooping, but she was determined to stay awake. Once he finished the story she said,

"Read it again. It's a really good one."

So he did. He finished the book at one in the morning. They had talked for two hours before he read to her. She was finally settling down some, and then he started singing to her. Thirty minutes later, she was finally asleep. If he moved, she would wake up, so he just sat there. Just as he thought she would be out for the night, she started shaking.

"No, don't go, don't leave me again." She cried in her sleep. His heart shattered into a million tiny pieces.

"Amethyst, sweetheart, wake up." Hey, you're okay, you're safe. I'm not going to leave you." He knew she was talking about her adopted parents. He also knew that she was scared of him leaving. Once he calmed her down, it was already five in the morning, and he knew there was no chance he was ever getting to sleep.

"Dami, were you up all night? I checked on you at four, but I wasn't sure if you were awake or not." Christina said.

"Yeah, Amethyst kept me up. Wait, were you up all night as well?" Damian asked.

"No, I woke up around four and couldn't go back to sleep." She answered.

"Okay, can you watch her while I go change?" Damian questioned.

"Yeah, go ahead." Christina said. Damian got changed, and then went to do Christina's hair. After he was done, he did Amethyst's as well. Then, they had breakfast and headed to school. Damian was tired, and he barely registered that they had arrived at Mr. Harrington's classroom.

"Alright class, settle down. This is Amethyst. She will be joining us for the rest of the year." Mr. Harrington said. All the kids were wondering what a tiny child who resembled Damian quite a bit was doing in their classroom. Damian found an empty desk next to him and had her sit there. He had Christina to his right and Amethyst to his left. Class began and thankfully passed with no incidents. Right before Damian was getting Amethyst ready to move on to the next class Flash started talking.

"Who's she? I can't believe you brought a child to our classroom."

"Она моя сестра, и тебе лучше не говорить о ней так. Я также являюсь ее законным опекуном." Damian had a deep Russian voice that was quite imposing. He and Christina grew up in Russia which made their accents very thick even when speaking English. Needless to say it creeped Flash out.

"Someone please tell me what he said." Flash said.

"Flash, he said, She is my sister and you would do best if you didn't speak about her like that. I'm also her legal guardian." Christina translated.

"Are you threatening me Damian?" Flash asked.

"Если бы я угрожал тебе, ты бы уже был мертв." Damian replied

"He said if I was threatening you, you'd be dead already." Christina said. Then she and Damian left the room. They headed to Russian class. Damian had been teaching Amethyst Russian and found that she already knew some before she was adopted. Evelyn only spoke Russian around her. Carol looked at them and motioned for them to come to the center of the room.

"Класс, это Аметист. Она присоединится к нам до конца учебного года." "Class, this is Amethyst. She will be joining us for the rest of the school year." Carol said. Then she went back to teaching. The classes before lunch went okay. The teachers needed Christina to translate Damian's answers. They understood what was going on, at least most of them did. Amethyst paid attention and stuck to her brother's side like glue. Then lunch came.

"Аметист, ты должна остаться со мной, хорошо. В столовой очень многолюдно. Amethyst you need to stay by me ok. The cafeteria is very crowded." Damian said. Amethyst nodded and followed him. They got to their table. They ate lunch while others milled around them. Then it was time for gym class. It was another swimming day. Christina was fully aware this time, and was able to follow along easily. The end of the school day quickly approached. Damian had a meeting with Christina and the others at four that they couldn't reschedule. Once they got home, Damian changed into his work clothes. Christina changed after him and they headed downstairs.

"Okay, here's what's going on. Damian was up late taking care of his sister. Crystal, put up a translator on the wall, and translate what Damian says into English please." Christina said, then Crystal got the translator ready.

"Хорошо, я хочу знать, что мы делаем для суда, и как мы собираемся представить мою сестру. Вот и вся эта встреча." Damian said.

"Okay I want to know what we're doing for the trial, and how we are going to introduce my sister. That is all this meeting is for." Crystal translated. The department heads replied with the answers, and then the meeting ended. Then Damian finally took a nap.
