Mind Games Day 8
A month after finding Amethyst appeared to be settling into the new routine, spring had started. There was still some chill in the air, but it wasn't quite as snowy as before. Looks could be deceiving though. The damages to Amethyst's thoughts were many. Her mind would play games with her and she would wake up in the middle of the night terrified and confused. There was still a lot of insecurity about where she was. Being in a room with all the lights off made her think she was back in that dark room chained up. Her mind played with her. She didn't like playing with it. The only light was her family. The seven year old was safe with Damian. He made her fear shrink. He would stay up with her until she fell asleep. Soon, the nightmares came less frequently, and she didn't panic in dark rooms. . The games and tricks her mind played slowed to once a week. Then, that day happened. Amethyst had a doctor's appointment. That shouldn't be a big problem, should it? But it was a huge problem. Unknown to all of them, Amethyst's adoptive parents had divorced and her adopted mom remarried. When Amethyst, Damian and Christina got checked in, they went and sat down. They were in the waiting room talking when Amethyst suddenly froze. She wasn't in the waiting room anymore; she was in an old house with her adopted mom looming over her.
"I thought I told you to clean this up, girl. What makes you think you can disobey me? I took you in when you were abandoned, and this is how you repay me." The woman yelled at the tiny child.
"I'm sowwy I just don't know how to cwean it up." Amethyst replied with her small speech impediment. She was still new to English.
"Well you better figure it out then. Before I make you figure it out." The lady snapped.
"Pease don't huwt me." Amethyst said, while she tried to pick up the mess. Try as she might, she just couldn't figure it out.
"You aren't good for anything, are you, girl?" The woman said picking Amethyst up, throwing her in the car, and driving to a parking lot.
"Get out." The woman commanded. Amethyst did as she was told, and hopped out of the car. As soon as she had both feet on the ground the car sped away.
"Why does everybody leave me?" she asked no one in particular.
In the present Damian was holding her.
"Amí, I need you to listen to my voice and follow it back to me." He said. Amethyst heard him very faintly, and she followed his voice out of the flashback. She was still panicking, not sure what was real and what was fake.
"Amí, can you tell me what happened, and then tell me five things you can feel that weren't wherever you just were?" Damian asked.
"I was back in Missouri. It was the day I got abandoned. You weren't there, Christina wasn't there, there weren't any lights, I had on old shorts not a dress. My hair wasn't this long." Amethyst said, calming down slowly. Once Damian was sure she was calm enough they walked into the exam room down the long hallway. They sat in the room for a couple minutes before a nurse came in.
"Hello my name is Mandie." The young nurse said.
"Hello Mandie. This is my sister Amethyst, and my girlfriend Christina." Damian said.
"Hi, Mandie." Amethyst said.
"It's nice to meet you, Mandie." Christina greeted her.
"It's nice to meet you all. Now let's begin this checkup, shall we?" Mandie said. Amethyst had calmed down, and she was fine after a little while. Then, the Doctor came in.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Nilen." The woman said not paying attention to the little girl, who was currently panicking again. Christina and Damian, however, were.
"One second, Dr. Nilen. Amí sweetie, do you know this woman?" Damian asked.
"Yes, it's the lady who adopted me, her name is Julia." Amethyst answered, gasping.
"Ok, nice deep breaths Amí. Yep that's it, keep going." Christina soothed.
"Let's take a walk shall we, Dr. Nilen?" Damian said, his tone brokered no argument.
"Of course, Damian." Julia replied and stood up.
"Let's talk. Find me a place where we won't be overheard." Damian said. Julia nodded and led him to an office.
"Did you and your previous husband adopt a girl named Amethyst Obadia?" Damian asked.
"Yes we did. She wasn't good for anything, so we put her back up." Julia said.
"I doubt you actually put her back up for adoption. Do you know who my sister is?" Damian asked, lightning crackling in his eyes.
"Amethyst Obadia. It's not just a coincidence is it?" Julia said.
"No, it's not. I just found my sister a month ago in Missouri locked in a basement bruised and hurt. You know what else, she was kidnapped because you left her in a parking lot when she was five years old." Damian spat. "I have no patience for people like you. I don't know if you know who I am or who my girlfriend is, but when it clicks, let me know."
"You're Damian Obadia, CEO of Stark Industries." Julia said, her face paling as it all clicked into place.
"Yes I am, and you are under arrest." He said as the Shield agent assigned to follow them, and his security detail stepped forward. "Have fun sitting in a Shield prison." Damian called, then he went back to Christina. Who had calmed Amethyst down just enough.
"Amí that woman is going to jail she can't ever hurt you again." Damian said.
