Sacrifice Day 10
There are many forms of sacrifice all around us. Every day, someone is sacrificing something. When people think of heroes, who do they think of first? They could think of superheroes, like Marvel's or DC's heroes. Or, they could think of the real heroes all around us, who go out and risk their lives to keep our freedom. This chapter is dedicated to the amazing men and women who risk their lives to protect our country. These include, but are not limited to first responders, firemen, paramedics, police officers, FBI agents, soldiers, and others who save people and protect us.
Christina and Damian were given a project for school. They were told that it was for the Fourth of July, even though it was April,. They were going to interview and talk to the various men and women who defended their country. The school wanted to know the sacrifices these brave men and women had made. To honor them before school let out for the year. It was also because several students had already enlisted in the army and had been training for a while. The school had gotten word that a few were shipping out. So they decided to ask Damian and Christina to assist them with organizing a project. Damian was a marine special operations trained soldier, although no one knew. When he and Christina escaped from Hydra, they were found by the US Army and Shield. They were trained even more and placed on special reserve. They were in charge of training some young soldiers that were labeled as enhanced; that was the true nature of the Young Avengers Initiative, including some of the young recruits at Midtown. The President had appointed Damian the Commander of this operation and Christina the Captain. Therefore, they agreed to make the school project. That is how they found themselves sitting across from Colonel Rhodes, asking questions about his current service, and trying not to slip up and call him Uncle Rhodey.
"What battles have you been a part of?" Christina asked.
"I have been a part of quite a few, including the Battle of New York and Ultron." Rhodes answered.
"What is your branch of service?" Damian asked.
"I'm an Avenger as well as a Colonel." They continued to ask questions for a while. Then they went on to the other Avengers, gaining more information for their project. Once the project was complete, they sent it in, and got it ready for the graduation ceremony. The details of this video would reach farther than the school. The Colonel had shown it to the President, who in turn asked them to show it to the branches of the service. Christina and Damian accepted. They were getting ready in their formal uniforms for the showing of the video. Once their family arrived at the base they found their seats. Once the room was quiet, Christina and Damian took the stage.
"Good evening, everyone. I am Captain Christina Stark. I know that I am very young to be in this position, and I am here because my school asked me and Commander Damian Obadia to create a video to show at graduation. It is for our fellow soldiers and in honor of their sacrifices. Most of you know me as the young woman who has enhanced capabilities, and as the extremely young Captain. That is true. I became a Captain after the US Army found me in Russia. They helped me utilize my skills in a positive way. I was very young at that time, and I grew in the ranks with the Commander. This video is, as I said, to honor you my fellow brothers and sisters in arms." Christina said.
"As you guys heard, my name is Commander Damian Obadia. What Captain Stark didn't share was that we're soulmates. Most of you already know that, though. What she said rings true for me as well. When you guys found us we had been captives of Hydra for years. You gave us a better way out, you gave us hope, and we stand here today, the people we are, because of you. This video was made to honor you all, so without further adieu, here it is." Damian explained, as the room erupted in applause. Then the video began. When it was over all the soldiers got up and started talking. At the end of the day Christina and Damian were happy they accepted the contracts with the US Army.
