Profile

Description:

Ariel Fauxen was the Captain of the Knights of Favonius Reconnaissance Company before she stepped down, and Eula Lawrence took her place. No one knows the reason for this decision, and few dare to ask. Stern yet fair in everyday life, Ariel's zealous side unfortunately makes her extremely quick to anger, and gods help anyone on the receiving end of her wrath.

Appearance:

Ariel uses the adult female body model.

Ariel has medium-length blonde hair that reaches her shoulders. She has severe scarring on her right arm, which is usually covered by her long sleeves. She wears her Vision on her chest. Ariel wears a formal light blue shirt with gold trim and a long golden tailcoat, long silver sleeves, and a pair of blue gauntlets with clawed fingers. She also wears black tights and blue-heeled boots.

Outfit: Adjudicator of Transgression

Combat

Normal Attack: Favonious Bladework - Edel

Perform up to 5 consecutive strikes.

Charged Attack: Favonious Bladework - Edel

Drains Stamina over time to perform continuous slashes. At the end of the sequence, perform a more powerful slash.

Plunging Attack: Favonious Bladework - Edel

Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Elemental Skill: Solar Surge

Sweep her weapon, applying Pyro to herself and knocking nearby enemies back, dealing Pyro Dmg. This ability gains a new effect when Tempest Fervor is active, depending on the weapon form.

Solar Surge - Claymore: Charge at the target enemy, dealing AoE Pyro Dmg on impact. Ariel is immune to interruption while charging and for 5s after.

Solar Surge - Polearm: Channel to deal continuous AoE Pyro Dmg in an area in front of Ariel.

Solar Surge - Bow: Leap into the air, firing a fully-charged aimed shot at all nearby enemies. Can be used in aiming mode.

Elemental Burst: Tempest Fervor

Ariel erupts with Pyro energy, switching to one of three weapon forms - Claymore, Polearm, or Bow. Lasts 15s, during which Ariel gains new Normal and Charged attacks, increased resistance to interruption, and new effects for Storm Surge depending on her weapon form. Moving while Tempest Fervor is active causes her next Normal, Charged, or Plunging attack to deal Pyro Dmg. The effects of Tempest Fervor are canceled upon switching characters or if Ariel falls. While Tempest Fervor is active, Ariel continuously loses health. This effect cannot cause her to fall.

Tempest Fervor - Claymore: Gain 30% Charged Atk Spd and DMG, as well as further increased resistance to interruption. Charged Attacks do not consume stamina and have no duration limit.

Tempest Fervor - Polearm: Gain 30% Normal Atk Spd. Ariel's Atk is increased by 20% of her Elemental Mastery. Causing an Elemental reaction increases her EM by 15 until Tempest Fervor ends. This can be triggered every 1s.

Tempest Fervor - Bow: Charged shots charge 30% faster. Fully charged aimed shots pierce through all enemies hit, exploding for AoE Pyro damage on contact.

Combat Talent 1: Airborne Fighter

Ariel can perform Normal and Charged attacks while gliding, but not Plunging attacks. This ability can be toggled on/off.

Combat Talent 2: Purging Assault

After moving in Tempest Fervor, all Normal, Charged, and Plunging attack DMG within 5s is converted into Pyro instead of only the next one.

Passive Talent: Wings of Heaven

Ariel does not fall while gliding, and she can control her altitude.

Constellation

1: Airborne Flame

Ariel can use Solar Surge in mid-air and its cooldown is reduced by 1s.

2: Solar Absorption

Gaining an elemental particle restores 20 stamina. This can trigger every 9s.

3: Unyielding Fury

Increases the Level of Tempest Fervor by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

4: Unending Assault

Moving no longer cancels Ariel's Normal Attack sequence. While in Tempest Fervor, she gains 20% movement SPD.

5: Unbound Energy

Increases the Level of Solar Surge by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

6: Dreadnought

Upon taking lethal damage, ignore it, deal AoE Pyro Damage around Ariel, and gain 200% Elemental and Physical RES and +50% Atk for 8s. Can be triggered once every 120s.

Special ascension stat: Atk%

Ascension Costs: Mora, Agnidus Agate, Dandelion Seed, Treasure Hoarder Insignia, Everflame Seed

Stories

Character details:

Ariel is the Judicator of the Church of Favonius, a role little known to the public.

It is her task to track down sinners who dare blaspheme against the patron deity of Mondstadt, Barbatos, the God of Freedom, and bring them back to the Favonius Cathedral for judgment. There, under Lord Barbatos' gaze, she shall hear their pleas and condemn them to their fate.

Most can be reformed through community service, to teach them the errors of their ways. Some need to be imprisoned to protect the citizens of Mondstadt. And, should the circumstances call for it, Ariel does not hesitate to strike down the irredeemable and purge their taint from the world.

There shall be no mercy for the corrupted. Against all challenges, Ariel shall enforce this rule.

Character story 1:

The Fauxen Clan is one of the many old noble families of Mondstadt, though not as famous as the Gunnhildr Clan, or as infamous as the Lawrence Clan. They were relatively small and did not wield the power and influence of the three great clans.

Their reputation was that of impartiality. Many of Ariel's ancestors found themselves as neutral arbitrators in great debates that helped to shape Mondstadt in the past. And despite first impressions, Ariel too continues this tradition.

Yes, Ariel's fury burns brightly and endlessly, but it does not significantly impair her judgment. Or more accurately, she can contain her emotions, smothering the simmering volcano through willpower alone, long enough to deliver proper judgment, obeying the laws of the land.

And thus, Ariel too can generally be relied on to judge fairly and neutrally, despite her firey personality. Some even mention that her imposing aura actually lends a hand in such cases: 'Everyone is so terrified of her that no one dares to lie.'

Character story 2:

Up until she retired a few years ago, Ariel was the Captain of the Knights of Favonious Reconnaissance Company. With her abilities, she was a natural fit for the role. From her perspective in the sky, she could give a quick and accurate overview of any land. No matter how her targets tried to hide or run, it mattered little. They would be caught.

As the captain of the company, Ariel too could position her forces, spreading them out to effectively accomplish her goals, be it routine patrols, mapping out dangers, or hunting down her enemies.

She seems exceptionally eager to accept that last one whenever such missions come up.

Just like anyone else, Ariel has her preferences. Although undeniably skilled at tactics and strategy, a majority of her plans have an aspect in common - a frontal assault that she would personally lead. She would delegate her subordinates to flanking strikes and cunning traps while Ariel herself entered combat directly. This, too, is strategy. She is hot-headed, but not unreasonable. While in the heat of battle, her rage brings her strength but weakens her strategic abilities - an uncontrollable berserker. Such strategies played to both her strength and those under her command, bringing many more victories than defeats.

With such success in her role, it was a surprise when she unexpectedly quit the Knights of Favonious and joined the Church instead. The reason is not something she shares, nor do people dare to ask.

Perhaps it had something to do with her newfound devotion to the divine.

Character story 3:

"Again, Ariel? If this keeps happening, I'm going to have to detect the cost from your paycheck."

Even before gaining her Vision, Ariel had incredible strength, capable of wielding a Claymore like a one-handed sword. Such brute force usually sufficed to destroy those deserving of her wrath - few could survive her full strength. Unfortunately, that meant that the standard-issue Favonius Claymore that she was provided fell apart rapidly.

While the Knights ordered a custom-made, reinforced new Claymore from Wagner, Ariel tried using both a Polearm and a Bow, weapons that she was less proficient with but capable of using. Those too did not survive.

It took a total of four broken lances, six cracked bows, and seven shattered swords (including Wagner's special one) before she finally managed to get a weapon capable of handing her power.

Forged of ancient materials and embedded with unknown technology, her current weapon, Heaven's Gate, was gifted to her by a grateful friend. Capable of switching between three forms at will, the weapon was capable of dealing and taking damage in equal measure. Fueled by her strength, it could smash through most barriers, and the excess, unbridled fire that she released would be conducted through the blade, igniting it in flame.

Now she need not hold back, and all who stand in her way shall burn.

Character story 4:

In the day, the Knights of Favonius show discipline, courage, and determination. They stand vigil at Mondstadt's gates and train regularly to ready themselves for any threat against the city. At night, the very same Knights can be found in one of the city's many taverns, drinking and partying loudly.

In a way, the Church also has it sides of light and dark. A few of the Sisters are more than just nuns, helping the people of Mondstadt with their sins. At night, a nun named Rosaria prowls the dark, quiet streets, silently watching over the city. Like the moon, she is silent and cunning, hiding where the shadows are deepest. In the dark, she is the city's stealthy protector.

In the day, Ariel takes this role. Although she is about as stealthy as a midday sun, she has other skills that she uses in defense of Mondstadt. While Rosaria works in the background, Ariel tackles any threat head-on. Sometimes brute force is all it takes when stealth and cunning fail. Like the sun, she is unyielding, unstoppable, and indiscriminate. Those who try to run shall eventually see the sun rise to meet them. Those who hide in the darkest corners of the world shall watch as their shelter is burned away. None shall escape the flame.

So says the Judicator of the Church of Barbatos, and so it shall be.

Character story 5:

Ariel was not the only child of the Fauxen clan. She once had a brother, whom she rarely speaks of. He was once a strong warrior and a great role model.

He was once too part of the Knights of Favonius, one of its frontline combatants sent to deal with external threats.

That was many years ago, and Ariel still remembers the last day she saw him.

The scouts came running with sightings of an Abyss Oder force mobilizing near Dadaupa Gorge, led by a humanoid with deadly blades of water - a rarely seen Abyss Herald.

Vision:

Ariel's Pyro Vision is a mirror of the flames that burn fervently within her heart.

Some receive their Vision in a moment of clarity, others at the peak of their skill. Ariel's appeared in a moment of fervent passion when fury and hope burned like the sun. She refused to surrender, even on the verge of death, facing impossible odds.

Outnumbered a hundred to one. Vemon bleeding her strength. A hundred cuts bleeding her life. At the edge of death, from the eternal heart of a tireless machine, Ariel had retrieved her Vision.

It was not without cost. She was bedridden for a full month afterward even with the care of the Church's best healer and weakened for another four after. It took a full two years for her to regain her strength, and even then she was scarred for life.

The Vision awakened not just her elemental powers, but a passionate - some would say fanatical - devotion to the divine. This, she decided, was her true calling. To be the arm of the gods, the divine judge who would punish those who dared rise against them.

Wings:

Mondstat is the city of freedom, and Anemo represents this very ideal. Left by their god to choose their own path, the people of this city have never had a ruler ever since the old aristocracy fell. Never again would they bend their knee to anyone who would attempt to enslave them.

Freedom is the heart and soul of Mondstat, and to Ariel, the greatest freedom is to fly amongst the clouds. With her Vision, she creates wings of flame that allow her to soar among the clouds. From that vantage, she looks down upon the world. No enemy can escape her sight, nor endure the judgment that would inevitably follow. Like a vengeful angel, she would purge all who dared stand in her way. The cleansing light would spare no evildoer, and all shall -

Anyway, Ariel's wings are a manifestation of her devotion - or as some would say, fanatism - to both Barbatos and his ideals. The god of freedom had granted her wings, and with it released her from her chains, and Ariel would ensure that his enemies can never plunge the land into darkness again. Whatever it takes.

Story Quotes

Hello: I am Ariel, Judicator of the Chruch of Favonius. Don't do anything stupid.

Chat - Church of Favonius: The sisters of the Church do love their prayer. But prayer alone will change little. You must act.

Chat - Knights of Favonius: It's been a while since I left. I wonder how the Knights are doing.

When It Rains: Don't let a little water hinder you. Move.

When Thunder Strikes: Nothing to be scared of. If you get struck, walk it off.

When It Snows: The cold saps my strength. It would be wise not to linger.

When the Sun Is Out: There is no hiding from the sun. Come. We have work to do.

Good Morning: Still asleep, at a time like this? I've already completed a recon of the area; let's move.

Good Afternoon: The sun rises high, shining its light upon the world. Evil cowers from its glory, for they would burn in holy fire otherwise.

Good Evening: The sun sets, but I do not rest. There is more to be done.

Good Night: Evil is most present when there is nothing to suppress it. Stay alert.

About Jean: The Acting Grandmaster has my respect. Her work is flawless and her ethics are admirable. She is more than worthy to lead the Knights and is an excellent role model.

About Eula: I know about the sins of her ancestors, and frankly, I don't care. Eula has proven herself repeatedly in her role and her bladework is excellent. However, should she ever choose to return to her family's oppressive ways, make no mistake - I will stop her, and all who dare bind our wings.

About Rosaria: Her. People say she is faithless, but I disagree. She protects the city in her own way. That is how one shows true devotion, not insincere prayers and choirs.

About Mika: Mika is reliable, if timid. I've tried to get him to be more assertive, but that never got anywhere.

About Kaeya: He is the Calvary Captain the way I am a nun. These are our jobs, yes, but we are also so much more.

About Barbara: Barbara is an innocent girl and an excellent healer. She has saved my life and many others, and I shall ensure that no harm befalls her.

About Amber: The last Outrider. She does her job well despite being the last of her role. A commendable effort.

About Lisa: The Librarian appears lazy throughout the day, yet manages to complete her tasks on time. I cannot find fault in that... though I wish she were more proactive.

About Sucrose: An alchemist under Albedo. Hardworking but too timid. She needs to get out more.

About Noelle: By all means, she should be a full Knight by now. I have spoken to Jean about it, and while I do not agree with the reasoning for holding her back, it is no longer within my power to change it.

About Klee: She causes all kinds of trouble. She'll have to learn responsibility at some point, and Jean seems to be doing a good job to teaching her.

About Albedo: To call him 'genius' is no understatement. His knowledge of the workings of the world is unparalleled.

About Ariel - Flight: To fly in the sky is my strength and my dream. Unbound by the laws of the ground, with no restrictions, and absolute control over yourself. To me, that is the greatest freedom of all.

About Ariel - Wine: Unlike what many think, I have nothing against wine. Lord Barbatos himself had blessed the lands of Mondstadt for this very purpose, after all. It would be a shame to waste his efforts. Just take care not to overdo it.

About Ariel - Hesitation: I do not hesitate. I act. As Judicator, I pave the way, and bear the brunt of any mistake, so that the innocent may be spared.

About us - Control: My aggressive methods do tend to lead to some misunderstandings. So... thank you, for holding me back.

About us - Faith: My devotion to the gods is unshakable. You are the chosen of Barbatos, so I shall listen to your words.

More about Ariel - I: The role of the Judicator is to detain and sentence sinners. I shall carry the responsibilities that this role demands.

More about Ariel - II: Not all sinners are deserving of immediate death. I shall judge them fairly, according to law. No matter their sentence, I shall see it carried through.

More about Ariel - III: The sinners I capture are brought to Mondstadt, where they face trial. To ensure fair judgment, others will be present, but I alone sentence them.

More about Ariel - IV: The sky is darkest before dawn, and the sun shall rise eventually. Should you find yourself overwhelmed, just endure beyond your limits, and you shall know salvation.

More about Ariel - V: I do not begrudge people for drastic measures. Those who break certain laws for the greater good will receive leniency if they succeed. If they fail to do good, they will know no mercy, no matter their intentions.

About the Vision: Why Pyro, and not Anemo? I do not claim to know the thoughts of the gods. Perhaps Lord Barbatos did not believe in me. It matters not. The wind and storm saved my life and I will repay that debt.

Hobbies: Whenever I have the time, I like to take a flight around Mondstat. In the skies, I can feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. It... it is a liberating feeling. Oh, and I can keep an eye on the nation, too.

Troubles: I do not begrudge the common folk for having a few drinks at the end of a tiring day. Yet many choose to allow that to control them regularly; even the Knights are no exception. It is unbecoming of them.

Favorite food: I like spicy food. The spicier the better - I can take the heat.

Least favorite food: Why would anyone like their food cold?

Receiving a gift I: Very impressive. It looks like you have many talents.

Receiving a gift II: Not bad. Thank you.

Receiving a gift III: Leave.

Birthday: Today is your birthday, so I shall grant you a gift. What do you desire? Speak and it shall be done.

Feelings About Ascension - Intro: Stronger and faster.

Feelings About Ascension - Building Up: The training is paying off. Do not let up.

Feelings About Ascension - Climax: Unbound by the shackles of the ground, I shall rise to new heights.

Feelings About Ascension - Conclusion: Together my strength grows, and I shall use this power to ensure that none shall stand against them. You have my thanks, and my favour.

A/N: This author's notes are some of my thought processes as I created Ariel. Skip it if you're not interested.

Ariel is a religious fanatic whose devotion burns brightly - hence the Pyro Vision. Honestly, given that gods exist in Teyvat, it's kind of surprising that we haven't met any fanatics yet. And I'm not talking about Kujou 'For the Shogun' Sara but more of an 'I will murder you if you so much as say Her Majesty's name in a wrong tone' type. Unfortunately, that kind of person usually goes into the Villain category and I'm not confident in writing that kind of thing yet. As such, I gave Ariel a healthy dose of pragmatism to balance out her fanaticism. Now she'll only murder someone who blasphemed hard enough - such as by stealing the Holy Lyre Der Himmel - and just throw people in prison for smaller infractions. This is, of course, if you don't make her too angry, or she might just murder you anyway.

It was actually different for me to decide on her Vision. Pyro for her fervent devotion, Anemo for her freedom of thought, Cryo for her conflicting rage and logic, or Hydro for her dedication to her faith. Cryo and Hydro seemed out of place for someone as angry as her, so I was left with Pyro and Anemo. In the end, because of her constant symbolism with the sun and fire, I gave her a Pyro Vision. Even though she satisfies the dead friend condition of Anemo.

This paragraph has spoilers for the Interlude Quest Caribert. Although Ariel speaks of sinners, she refers to normal people who have committed crimes and not The Sinner from the Interlude Quest. Ariel has no connections to the Cataclysm or Khaenri'ah.
