With that startling realization, my first thought is about something that had concerned me in most isekai. How was I going to avoid catching and spreading all the numerous diseases that could spread like the ones that destroyed most of the natives when the New World was discovered?
"Hello!" I call out so whoever is taking care of me can hear. "I'm up!"
I hear steps and eventually Felix opens the door while Crusch, with her distinctive dark green hair, enters first.
"The Lady Crusch will see you nyow." Felix proclaims as Crusch walks through the doorway and seats herself on one of the chairs.
Crusch begins after a short pause by saying, "How are you feeling? As Ferris just said, I am Crusch." Ferris, I thought his name was Felix? "You look confused."
"I'm simply wondering, isn't your knight over there a boy, I'd think the name Felix would be more fitting than Ferris." I remembered as I asked that he went by Ferris, I think it was to have the opportunity to prank people or something? Felix looks surprised, likely because I'd guessed his name, while Crusch responds with an interested expression.
"So you know of my knight, and from your tone and face when we entered I can tell you called out with a specific intent." She has lie detection via emotions, so I should keep that in mind, I recalled as she called out my emotions accurately.
"Firstly, I should introduce myself, I am John Marsh, and I thank you for saving my life. I am concerned that I may be carrying several diseases new to your country and may also have low resistance to whatever diseases you have here that I do not have where I am from." This gave both people a start, but Felix walked up and scanned me using water magic.
"Nyo, there is nyo difference in the strength of your immunyity and that of any other person on the street. If anything, you have a stronger resistance to disease than would be expected."
I wonder how whatever magic got me here managed that, I think before Crusch begins to speak, "Relating to that, the reason you're here and still alive is because I saw you simply appear on the street, bleeding out and heavily injured. I sent Ferris to heal you because it looked like you had been run over by a carriage, though none had passed by in a good while." Getting to the point of the conversation, she continues, saying "How did you get here? You just were there where you had not been before, and in a terribly injured state without explanation."
Recalling Crusch's ability to determine lies, I told the truth, with as much information as would make sense to her, "There is a great deal of uncertainty in my mind as to how I came here, but I was, as you thought, run over by a carriage, it was quicker than the ones you have here, as we have in my country a way to harness the strength of many horses to a single carriage without taking up much space, though the carriages must be heavier to allow for that. I thought I had died when I found myself on a different road, still bleeding out, though the wounds on my face and head had mostly healed. I saw Felix, er- Ferris run towards me just before I blacked out."
Both Felix and Crusch give very similar responses, ones of surprise. These responses increase when the shock from my trauma and my arrival here finally wears off. I start to panic, I start rambling out loud, " What's happening? This can't be real! This is a dream right!? Stuff like this doesn't happen!" I take a deep breath before counting my fingers and toes and checking for a sunburn I had gotten the other day from track. "Hmm. No sunburn, but thanks makes sense because I was healed. I still have all my fingers and toes, and they're completely normal." I take a deep breath and slowly comb my fingers through my recently cut brown hair. As I do so, I, with great bewilderment, sigh out, "This probably isn't a dream, I doubt I could dream getting hit by a car. I have no reference frame for that level of pain." As I panic internally, I take several deep breaths and force myself to wait for my emotions and my body to calm down. When I begin those breaths, I notice Crusch and Felix recovering from my outburst as well.
"Of course you are not dreaming, though me saying this may not be a great reassurance to you." Crusch says in response to my sudden torrent of words. "If I may ask, are you alright?" Crusch asks concernedly.
"Yes, just getting over the shock of teleportation and physical trauma." I respond once I calm down. "I have only ever heard of this country, its something like Lugunicia, right? Well, I've only ever heard of it in books and other forms of storytelling, so I thought it didn't exist."
Crusch responds first with a response to my question, then a question of her own. "Almost, it's Lugnica. It certainly does exist, and if I may ask, where do you live such that it exists only in tales?"
"You won't have heard of it, but I'm from a country known as America, though it's also called the U.S.A. and the United States of America. I lived in a fairly large city, probably larger than this city is." I answer until realizing that saying the Royal City is only a decently large city where I'm from was not my best idea. "This city does have over half the population of one of the provinces, called states, in my country, I probably just have a slanted perspective having lived in one of the very big cities."
Crusch had noticed my spike of alarm at mentioning how small the capital was, but could also tell I wasn't lying in the later parts, so she asks another question to get more information out of me. "How much do you know of the Kingdom of Lugnica?"
"The kingdom? Not a lot." I start, knowing I have to be fully truthful while not getting myself killed. "I know about the Royal Selection, and I know of some of the old events of history. I mostly know about people, as that's what stories tend to focus on."
Crusch nods as she sees I'm trying to get myself to hide something without telling myself to hide it. "Is that how you knew Felix's name? Do you, by any chance, know it in its entirety?" Felix responds to this by perking his ears up, he had been quietly listening since my panicked outburst of emotion.
I start to sweat as I try to change the topic, "I try my utmost not to lie, so I won't delve into that line of questioning. Based on my knowledge of that area, it may be physically impossible for me to answer some of those questions, and I'd rather not find out."
Crusch is not having it, "I know you're not lying, but you are talking around a topic, please answer my question."
"Yes, his name is Felix Argyle, and he has the Blessing of Water or something like that, which is why he was able to heal me." I respond reluctantly, as she basically forced me with her previous question. "Could we nix that line of questioning now? I-" Pain shoots from my stomach. "I'm really hungry. Have I eaten here yet? If not, then I haven't eaten anything since yesterday, and nothing substantial since lunch yesterday." I am also exhausted from being hit by a car and the intense questioning. Both Crusch and Felix can see that I am tired, and when I mention not having eaten, Crusch lets up.
"All right, you will have to answer those questions later though." I got out of that for now, and I'm getting food. I haven't eaten in a while, but my stomach probably hurts from stress more than anything else. I've forgotten to eat for longer than this before, and hunger doesn't really make itself known to me quickly unless I start eating.
As Felix and Crusch leave, Crusch says, "I'll be up here in about an hour, so eat quickly." I realize when she says this that I should probably use this time they gave to eat fast and escape out the window or something. I need to think up a plan, and quickly, because they want answers I may not be able to give.
