Plans and Counter-Plans
They all were rigid with fear after hearing El's announcement. El herself looked the most fearful, she knew the Upside-Down far more than everyone else and knew all too well the terrifying dangers inside. Worse, Will was trapped there, alone, no doubt afraid and, unlike her, had no powers with which to protect himself.
"What do we do, how are we supposed to save him?" Lucas asked in shock and fear.
Max shook her head. "Worse, we don't even know how he got in there, right?"
They all grimaced, worried and afraid.
"Um...I…" Dustin hesitated, they all turned to look at him but he shook his head. "No, we've gotta think about Will."
"No, Dustin, just tell us." Max insisted.
"I'm worried about Suzie, what if, what if they find out she told us that, what if-?"
"I'm sure she'll be alright." El said quickly. "At least, I don't think she's in any immediate danger...But, let me think…"
"El?" Mike queried.
But she shook her head and began to think, trying to figure out what to do. They watched her anxiously, hoping that she'd figure something out.
"This is all his plan." She muttered to herself. "It's clear what he wants me to do...but…"
Mike noticed the looks of the others and shrugged. "Brenner, maybe?"
They just nodded, waiting and wondering.
Finally, El seemed to recover and began to pace, shaking her head.
"This is...It's more complicated than I thought." She said at last. "There's a way to save Will, but that's the way Papa wants, if we do that, we're falling into his trap…"
"Is there any other way?" Mike asked desperately.
She sighed. "Yes, but it's tricky. We need to figure out where Will was sent into the Upside-Down, finding that and getting there is the only other way to get him out...I may have a way to get him out and beat Papa's plan. But we'll need a way to distract our families too...they're hardly going to approve us going into danger, right?"
They all shared a look and nodded awkwardly, they knew El was right, so they began wracking their brains, trying to figure out a way to do that, Dustin meanwhile had an idea.
"I might know a way to find out where Will is...it's a long shot but, I gotta try."
The others reacted.
Lucas guessed. "Ah, let me guess, ask Suzie, it's our best bet, go for it."
Dustin nodded and hurried off while the others all tried to work out a way to deal with their families.
XXXXX
Seated in his office, with Owens and Connie opposite him, Brenner smiled grimly.
"Well, things have worked out, not exactly as we'd hoped. But it's worked out for us nonetheless." He stated.
Owens glowered but Connie nodded.
"What is our plan now?" She asked.
Brenner smiled. "We wait for El to act. Just note that, should things start to turn against us. Connie, gather our forces and make sure there is no interference from anyone. Also send word to Rochelle that she needs to ensure the police chief doesn't interfere."
"What, we kidnap a boy just to set up some elaborate scheme and-" Owens snarled.
Brenner snapped. "Enough Sam, you need to get on board with the project or do I have to assume you're a liability? We need this plan to succeed, we need Eleven to dominate the other side, the denizens must be brought under control and we will have our army. Don't you see the prospect, the advantage that would give us?"
"By putting far too many people at risk, by putting an innocent boy in a death trap, by going against what we were ordered, there are so many things wrong with this, Martin!" Owens raged, disgusted.
Brenner shook his head. "You can go now Sam, you're clearly not able to handle this."
Owens glared but stalked out the room. Brenner shook his head but simple nodded to Connie who left to carry out her orders and Brenner smiled, settled back in his chair, he just needed to wait now, his goal was just within reach, Eleven as the Psychic Commander of an army for denizens from the other side, since his own government wouldn't authorise this, couldn't see the advantage this would give them, he would succeed in fulfilling this goal, then show it off for the highest bidder who would be the one to benefit, for him it was a simple case of win-win, he was sure nothing could stop his plan now.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
