Vlad King's Green Bean
Chapter ninety-five: Empire Undead (part two)
Fuyuki, along with Samidare, Yamato, Komaru, and Toya, were beyond horrified when they encountered a number of persons in the city who were all reanimated corpses, people who died long ago but were now once more walking among the living. They walked among the living despite not being counted among their number. What was especially horrifying about this for the son of Green Bean was that he recognized one of the zombies; it was Katsuki Bakugo, who Fuyuki's dad Izuku told him had died twenty years ago to ensure some of the other guys would be able to get away with sneaking some civilian refugees to a safe zone between the first and second wars that Emperor Dabi had launched in his bid to take over Japan.
A heroic sacrifice that was besmirched, desecrated, by the foul power that made Bakugo, or rather his lifeless corpse that still bore the wounds that killed him, once more walk the land of the living.
"That blonde one with the gash wounds across his torso is your Uncle Katsuki, huh?" Samidare said to Fuyuki, "Yeah, he does look like the Katsuki Bakugo who appeared in the first year yearbook my dad has from his UA days. I can also identify the other zombies since I've seen them in photos." Samidare pointed the the short zombie in purple, the buff zombie in yellow, the armored zombie with exhaust pipes in the backs of his shins, the rocky looking zombie. "That's Minoru Mineta, that's Rikido Sato, that's Tenya iida, and that's Koji Koda."
"My dad says those were classmates of his from his UA days who died during his first year," Komaru said, "And now they're back as living dead...?"
Toya stepped forward, giving off vibes that he was clearly intending to fight to end the unholy perversion before him and his classmates. "Uhh, Toya," Yamato said, "You're not planning to fight them, are you? We don't even have provisional licenses yet."
"I'm pretty sure we'd be excused if it's pointed out that we had to deal with fucking zombies," Toya pointed out, casting a wave of ice that rushed in a line before striking zombie Tenya, forming a large block of ice that froze him from his feet to about halfway up his torso, keeping him from moving. The undead speedster tried moving, but found he was unable to, so he merely roared in mindless undead anger.
The other zombie teens began to fight, but their efforts, surprisingly enough, were lackluster at best when the fight began in full. Zombie Mineta grabbed at the deflated purple balls on his head, ripped one off leaving a portion it behind, and threw the soggy mess he grabbed up at the living teens. That soggy mess, like a deflated rubber ball with chunks of jello stuck to the inside, made a splat when it fell harmlessly on the ground. Zombie Koda gave a roar towards the sky, but nothing happened aside from a few animals like birds in the sky and a few nearby stray cats fleeing in the direction opposite of the rocky looking undead teen.
Zombie Sato went back to the crepe stand he ravaged, found another thing of sugar, popped it open and guzzled the sugar down. He then looked like he was flexing as if trying to activate a quirk, but nothing happened, further confusing the undead teen in yellow. Zombie Katsuki threw his hands forward as if trying to cast an explosion, Fuyuki remembered the stories his dad told him about Uncle Katsuki, but no explosions came from the explosive undead teen. As a side note, Zombie Mineta ran out of deflated balls to pluck off of his head, and he roared in confusion when he found there were no more.
Seeing all of this, Yamato said, "I... I think they are trying to use their quirks, but they aren't working."
"Perhaps their undead state has something to do with it?" Great Shadow said as he was still hanging outside of and next to Samidare, "Maybe they still have their quirks, but can't use them the same or at all due to their undead physiology."
Seeing that the zombie teens couldn't use their quirks like they could have when they were among the living, Toya decided to freeze the others like he did with zombie Tenya. After all of the zombie teens were secured in large hunks of ice, Toya and the other living teens were suddenly greeted by the arrival of monstrous looking brutes, some slender, some overly buff, none of them looking human. The lead monster was a dark (near charcoal black) skinned muscular hulk looking close to seven feet tall, with bony pointed spikes coming out from its shoulders, looking kind of like pauldrons. Also, although it had no physical head, its head and what was missing from its neck were made up with flames, sort of like how Celty's head functioned with that ethereal energy.
The lead brute looked about to attack the bound zombie Mineta, but Toya called out, "Hey, we need to keep these things alive! We need info on them!"
The fiery headed monster turned to look at Toya, saw and recognized him, and surprisingly obeyed him instantly and without complaint. The fiery headed monster turned to look at his fellows. "Other nomus, hold!" the fiery headed monster, apparently identified as a nomu, said to its fellows, and they all listened to their apparent leader. The fiery headed nomu then turned to look at Toya. "...You are the young Toya Todoroki," the fiery headed nomu said to Toya, "Nephew of Emperor Dabi. Me and the other nomus were literally made to obey the word of the world ruling imperial family."
Toya, although relieved that the zombie teens would be preserved for study, was now a little unsettled by the appearances of nomus, monsters that haven't been seen since shortly before the Dabi Regime fully took over the world twenty years ago; Toya's Uncle Toya, aka Emperor Dabi, decided to have the nomu making program deactivated, citing among other reasons that it simply wasn't needed anymore. Granted, Dabi's inner circle member Kurogiri is technically a nomu himself, but Dabi kept him around for various reasons. Long story short is that, Kurogiri aside, there shouldn't be any nomus around period.
And yet a squad of half a dozen nomus were here, five lesser ones from the looks of it and this fiery headed one who looked to be the elite of the group of six. "...I don't suppose you have a name, do you?" Toya asked the firey headed nomu.
"I have been designated as Hotshot," replied the now identified Hotshot, "You, as someone part of Emperor Dabi's family, have the highest level of authority here. What are your orders, young lord?"
Toya, not even questioning how a pack of nomus suddenly showed up and were now awaiting orders from him, said, "We need to keep this area secured until help arrives. Additionally, we need to keep the zombies I froze alive because there is literally no information available about how they even came to be. Hopefully there are not anymore zombies around he-"
"Hey, Lil' Toya!"
Toya was cut off when he heard Spinner's voice call out, then he and the other teens turned to see Spinner come running in, followed by a dozen PLF soldiers in the Regime. The lizardman looked to Hotshot who, seemingly recognizing Spinner, gave him a salute. "...I wasn't aware the nomu program had been reactivated," Spinner said, "You'd figure Dabi would have told me about it before letting it happen."
"His highness Emperor Dabi isn't aware of the program's reactivation, sir," Hotshot said to Spinner, "It was reactivated by the lead scientist in charge in response to the reports that came from this area about supposed reanimated corpses showing up and causing a scene by randomly attacking! We were sent to fight the supposed zombies, destroy them if need be, but the young lord here-" Hotshot paused to gesture to Toya "-captured them all instead and said they ought to be brought in alive for study in order to get more information on them."
Spinner turned his attention to look at the frozen zombie teens. His eyes narrowed out of suspicion. "...Yeah, capturing the zombies alive, if the act can be called 'capturing them alive' is ultimately a good thing. We need to know more about this if we're to have any sort of plan to deal with it." Within quick order, prisoner transport trucks were brought in, and all of the zombie teens were cuffed, muzzled, and loaded into the trucks for transport to a lab. The nomus, led by Hotshot, also took off as the job they were sent for had been settled for them.
Even so, Spinner was still suspicious. "...Can the program really be reactivated at a moment's notice like that? Either way, Dabi's gonna wanna know about this, as well as the zombies." Spinner then turned to look at the teens. "It's clear you kids had fought without even provisional licenses, but I think it's safe to say it will be excused given the circumstances. I mean, you were dealing with bona fied zombies, for crying out loud. You all were clearly in danger."
"Mr. Spinner, do you know what's going on?" Toya asked.
The lizardman gently shook his head in the negative. "No, but me, your uncle, and the rest of our circle will be finding out. Oh, would you happen to know where we can get a hold of Felgrand?"
"Felgrand?" Fuyuki repeated in a confused tone.
"Dabi wants him brought in on how Tsukiyomi's wife is the long thought to be dead Tsuyu Asui, turning out to have been alive this whole time," Spinner said, "And likewise how it was discovered that his adopted sister Satsuki is Tsuyu's long thought to be dead younger sister Satsuki Asui, also turning out to have been alive this whole time. Dabi wants Felgrand brought in to help protect the Asui sisters."
Samidare, his interest piqued by how Dabi wants Felgrand made part of a set up protection for his mom and aunt, looked to Spinner in surprise. "Emperor Dabi wants to protect my mom and my Aunt Satsuki?"
"Oh, you're Tsukiyomi's son," Spinner said upon noticing Samidare who still had Great Shadow out, "Yeah, he's placing a lot of stock in protecting your mother and aunt, although I'm not too sure why. Have any of you kids seen him?"
"Actually, he took us to his island and dropped us off at a nearby park just before we encountered the zombies," Fuyuki said, "Toya wanted to visit his grandfather, and we saw Toya's grandfather's head at the base of a grave that Felgrand has hidden under his island."
Spinner nodded once in understanding. "You kids saw his hidden lair, huh? Yeah, I've seen it a few times myself, I know what you're talking about." Spinner allowed the kids to go home, but he had Toya come with him as they made their way back to Exclusive Heights. Fuyuki and the other living teens were still rattled by the appearance of some zombie teens, and hoped that the Regime would get answers there. The son of Green Bean was also curious about the appearance of the nomus, especially as Spinner mentioned that the nomu program had been deactivated for around twenty years.
There was so much confusion about what all was going on here, and Fuyuki wanted to know what in blazes was going on. He felt, however, that he was or would be far from the only one seeking answers for what all is going on here.
Later on, Dabi accompanied by Spinner, Rappa, and Gentle were visiting Dr. Ujiko in a secret lab somewhere. There were some nomus growing in vats of glowing green liquid in the lab, and a few nomus, Hotshot included, were asleep in large tubes. "So you have been working on the nomus in secret ever since I had called for the nomu program to be shut down," Dabi said to Ujiko, "Just what are you up to?"
"I fail to see why you're upset, Dabi," Ujiko replied, "They're a solid backup plan, and I've been saving them exclusively for emergency situations." Arching a wry eyebrow, Ujiko went on, "Considering the fact there's now bona fied undead going about, I think the nomus are a good counter to deal with them."
"It still doesn't change the fact you've been doing something behind Dabi's back," Gentle pointed out, "It was determined at the time that there was no more need for the nomus, Kurogiri notwithstanding, so the nomu program was shut down in order to conserve resources for other ventures at the time."
"Look, there's nothing for you to worry about," Ujiko assured Dabi, "I made it so that the nomus are absolutely loyal to you, members of your family, and those in your inner circle. Spinner did say that your nephew reported how Hotshot listened to an order he gave him to refrain from destroying the captured zombies."
Dabi let a breath out through his nostrils as his arms were folded over his chest. "That... is a point, I will admit."
"And we still have no idea where these zombies came from or how they're made," Ujiko went on, "So it's fortuitous that the lot that first appeared were all captured alive, it gives the Regime multiple test subjects to study. And the nomus can, if anything, serve as disposable fodder to combat anymore zombies, thus preserving and saving the living from potentially being killed."
Dabi turned his attention to where the nomus that helped with the zombies were resting in their tubes. In particular, Dabi focused on Hotshot. "...There's something about that named nomu, Hotshot, that kind of pisses me off."
"Yeah, he's the first elite that I've made since reactivating the nomu program," Ujiko confirmed, "The only one capable of speech and greater levels of thinking that what's the average for nomus. Also, Hotshot was made using the late Endeavor's body as a base."
"So the brickhouse bastard's now a nomu," Dabi surmised. Turning to look at Hotshot again, Dabi contemplated for a moment that, in a way, his bastard father had now fallen even lower. It actually amused Dabi on some level to see Endeavor having become one of the very things he fought so long ago. Turning back to look at Ujiko, Dabi said, "I guess his head and part of his neck being made of flames can be chalked up to Felgrand having taken Endeavor's head twenty years ago?"
"Yeah, I'd say it's the only reason why Hotshot's able to function despite his base not having a physical head," Ujiko said, "I likewise tried making a nomu using Mirko's headless body as a base, but the process failed to so much as fidget slightly."
Dabi rolled his eyes dryly. "Yeah, good luck with that." Looking to Ujiko, Dabi said, "Now what's this I heard before the lads and I came here about you wanting the captured zombies brought to your lab? You aren't gonna use them to make nomus, are you?"
"Heavens no," Ujiko replied, "They're way too valuable as research subjects for it! We have literally nothing on them! I was planning to put them in a separate area of my lab for research. The more we learn about the zombies, the more I will know how to improve the nomus so they can be used to combat them."
The man who rules the world nodded in understanding. "Fair enough. You can study and research the zombies, but don't do anything too big with them without getting my permission for it first. And show some respect to them." Dabi let out a shuddering sigh. "Three of them are students killed back when Handjob attacked the USJ a little over twenty years ago, one is Ingenium's brother who Stain murdered, and the fifth one is that explosive boy Felgrand killed due to sufficiently pissing him off. They may be zombies, but they're the zombies of minors."
Ujiko nodded in understanding. "And there's a certain degree of respect one has to pay to the dead by default. Oh, one last thing before you go. I got it that two women were recently revealed to have been living under the Regime's nose under the pretense they'd be killed if your authority found out who they really were. When do you plan to have them put to death?"
"They are NOT going to be put to death," Dabi said, "And I'm looking to arrange top security to ensure they're kept safe. I'm also still looking to get a hold of Felgrand, I want him to be among the first brought in on this."
Ujiko looked mildly confused. "But they have been defying your authority for twenty years. Surely you won't let such disrespect pass without punishment."
"Technically, Dabi did punish the pro heroes who were all in on it," Spinner said, "He smacked all of them on the head with a rolled up newspaper for being stupid. By Dabi's word, there was no need for those two women to live secretly as they had no reason to fear being put to death by his authority. That's the extent of what Dabi did to punish anyone involved."
Ujiko had a hint of being unsure in his expression, but he had to let it go, at least while Dabi and his fellows were here. Dabi said that he'd have the captured zombies brought to another section of Ujiko's lab for research, and told Ujiko to get what he felt he'd need ready. Ujiko nodded in thanks once and proceeded to gather things for the grim task ahead of him right as Dabi and company left. However, after the world ruling emperor and his men were out of there, Ujiko scowled to himself as he still went about getting what he'd need to set up for work.
"Dabi doesn't realize that allowing those women to live will weaken his resolve, it'll imperil the empire Dabi had worked hard to set up."
Later, the teens had all gotten home, there was still a fair bit of time left in summer break before classes at UA started back up, and Fuyuki was received by his grandparents Masaru and Granny Inko, his cousin Inko, Uncles Katsuma and Kota, and Aunts Eri and Mahoro. They all looked a mix of horrified and troubled, Masaru especially so. "I... guess this is about how some of my classmates and I encountered those zombies in town earlier," Fuyuki said, getting his family to look at him.
"My son," Masaru said, "The bastard or bastards behind this unspeakable horror desecrated my son, brought him back as a mindless living corpse." The older Bakugo man gently shook his head. "...I hope Izuku's able to find whoever's behind this and beat them until their evil on Katsuki is undone, and he can go back to resting in peace as he deserves."
"Satsuki told me she was part of the group of refugees that Izuku and some of his classmates were escorting to safety," Kota said, "When that Katsuki guy was killed distracting some villains in order to buy time for the others to successfully sneak away. I saw the damage on the body of Katsuki since a video clip of the zombie attack got out, and I can see how Felgrand had been judge, jury, and executioner."
Eri gulped nervously. "I heard in some fiction that zombies like to kill and eat living humans. It's a good thing I had gone through the Losing Weight for Heroism program after all of those Regime security escort guys were hurt on Fuyuki's field trip, otherwise I'd still be big, making me a perfect all you can eat buffet for zombies."
"Well when Uncle Katsuki and his fellow undead tried confronting my classmates and I," Fuyuki began, "They never made any indication that they wanted to eat us. They just tried attacking us with their quirks, but they didn't work. At least properly. Toya was then able to capture them all in ice, and then they were taken in by the Regime to be studied so that it could be figured out where they came from and how they were made." Gently shaking his head, Fuyuki said, "I'm pretty sure that the zombies we encountered aren't like how zombies are traditionally depicted in fiction."
Mahoro nodded in understanding, then looked like she was about to say something, but got cut off when Katsuma said, "Hey Fuyuki, where did you get that ring from? I've never seen you wear it before."
Attention was then drawn to Fuyuki's dragon-crafted silver ring. Fuyuki held his hand up to make the ring easier to see as he was wearing it. "Oh, Felgrand gave it to me," Fuyuki explained, "He gave similar ones to Samidare, Yamato, Komaru, and Toya."
"Wait, wait, wait," Kota interrupted, "You're saying that Felgrand gave you and some of your classmates silver rings?"
"He made them by taking a bar of silver and using one of his quirks on it to instantly disassemble it then instantly reassemble it into five silver rings with the remaining silver forged back into a smaller bar," Fuyuki explained, "He took me and my aforementioned classmates to his island because Toya wanted to visit his grandfather, and Endeavor's head is located at the base of a memorial grave in a room in Felgrand's hidden lair under his island. It's mostly just skull now."
"Felgrand took you to his island?" Inko said, "You saw he has a lair hidden under the island? Lil' cous, how are you so damn lucky?"
Looking right at Inko, Mahoro said, "For a girl who just saw footage of her late father's corpse walking around because it was raised as a zombie, you seem nowhere near as horrified and disgusted as you should be."
"Oh no, I'm plenty horrified and disgusted," Inko clarified, "Not to mention fucking pissed as fucking fuck-"
"Language, young lady," Granny Inko scolded.
Masaru, however, smirked a little bit. "She's Katsuki's daughter, alright. As you were, young lady."
Inko nodded once to her grandfather. "Thanks, Grampa." To everyone as a whole, Inko said, "Anyway, I wanna find all persons responsible here for screwing with my dad's remains and make them wish that not only they left my dad dead, but that they themselves were dead like him. But that's beside the point. The point here is that while I am indeed wanting to settle the score involving my dad being raised as a mindless zombie, what really surprises me here is the fact that Fuyuki and some of his classmates were hang on a minute." Looking right at Fuyuki, Inko said, "Did you say that Komaru was along for the ride as well?"
"Well it'd take to long to say 'my classmates and Komaru', so I generalized things to save time," Fuyuki replied, "And before you ask, no nothing bad happened to him, or any of us for that matter. In fact, Komaru and I both kinds of geeked out because we were in an actual Dragon's Lair. He even made us and the others souvenirs from a bar of silver from his horde, an actual Dragon's Horde, although he did it partly to demonstrate that he can use one of his quirks to craft jewelry."
Inko now looked confused. "Why does Felgrand need to make jewelry?"
"Apparently, he has a girlfriend and is planning to propose to her," Fuyuki replied, leaving out the part where Felgrand proposing to his girlfriend was Fuyuki's idea as he encouraged Felgrand to do so. The son of Green Bean acted because, worried about Felgrand saying he planned to figure out how to die after completing his revenge, he was hoping to figure out a way to convince Felgrand to not end himself, give him another reason aside from revenge to live. Shrugging, Fuyuki said, "I figure that it'd have a bit more impact if the engagement and wedding rings were crafts of his own making, rather than just buying them from a jewelry store, or using some rings from the loot that makes up part of his Dragon's Horde."
"Felgrand has a girlfriend?" Kota said, "Hoo boy, I'd hate to antagonize whatever girl is damn lucky enough to win the heart of Emperor Dabi's monster. I mean, you just don't fuck with Felgrand's girlfriend, because what if Felgrand shows up?"
"This does sound like good news," Mahoro said, "Maybe having a girl in his life will make Felgrand less wild."
"He has proven that he's good with youth," Eri pointed out, "What with how he spared Fuyuki and a few others when they were dragged to his island against their will, then he showed incredible restraint when he was the proctor for Fuyuki's practical part of the finals, and now he's kindly taken them to and from his island. Even gave them all gifts." Gesturing to the family, Eri said, "Girls do like a guy who's good with youth."
Granny Inko looked a bit sad. "...Good with youth... that's the opposite of whoever had raised Katsuki and some of his classmates from the dead as mindless zombies."
Fuyuki nodded in agreement with his grandmother. "I hope dad and the other pro heroes can figure out how to deal with it."
*SLAM*
The other gathered pro heroes all jumped a bit in fright when Izuku slammed the wall behind him with the side of his fist. The gathered meeting at the Green Bean Agency building consisted of everyone from Izuku's year of UA's hero course, now successfully pro heroes one and all. Even Momo Awase (nee Yaoyorozu) was there despite how she retired from pro hero work to help her family's businesses. The recently revealed to have been alive this whole time Tsuyu was also there, but all of the well wishes and comments on being happy to see her again had to be put off for the time being. For a very good reason.
All eyes were on a very clearly angry Izuku as he looked poised to rip someone a new one for one reason or another. "...Midori-bro, I feel you," Kirishima said, "We all saw the video that had gotten out, of Baku-bro and the others raised as zombies. What pisses me off even more is that the video showed several of our kids, one of which is my own son Komaru, where there and in potential danger."
"My baby was threatened," Kinoko spoke up, "I'll find the bastards responsible and make them wish they were dealing with Felgrand instead."
"I can live freely now and I plan to, among other things, be involved in me and Fumikage's son Samidare's life kero," Tsuyu said, "But I almost lost that because there's someone out there desecrating the dead."
"As much as I was the most vocally against that perverted little shit Mineta back in the early days of our time at UA," Kyoka spoke up, "I would never wish... that... on him, or Bakugo or Iida or Koda or Sato for that matter."
Pony was trembling out of a mix of emotions; sadness, horror, anger. "...They... they perverted the memory of the only man who I ever went to bed with, the man who helped me bring my daughter Inko into the world." Pony pounded a fist into her hand. "Those varmints are going to PAY."
Shihai turned to look at Shoto. "Well now, Mr. Brother of the Emperor, did you get anything from His Majesty about the zombies yet?"
"Toya said that he's got one of the Regime's top scientists working on studying the raised corpses of some of our fellows from our first year at UA," Shoto began, "Toya had also stressed that respect is to be shown to them, given that they are dead. That's all I got from him about our zombified fellows, though. He also asked for getting a hold of Felgrand due to wanting to make him part of the protection deal for Tsuyu and her sister."
"It still amazes me that Emperor Dabi prioritizes Asui-san and her younger sister so much that he's assigning his own ultimate bodyguard to the deal to protect them," Jurota remarked, holding a hand to his chin.
"Asui is my maiden name," Tsuyu pointed out.
"Well it'd get a bit confusing if I addressed you as Tokoyami-san," Jurota said, "Given you and your husband are both Tokoyami. And I'm not on first-name basis with you, so to save confusion I'm using your maiden name. I hope that's fine."
Tsuyu nodded once in understanding. "That's a fair point."
Gesturing to the others, Denki said, "Yeah, I'd probably be the first to make that mistake. Anyway, it really is amazing that Asui's getting such protection."
"What's next, is Dabi also gonna assign Gigantomachia to guard duty to protect Asui and her sister?" Kyoka asked rhetorically.
"That..." Mina said, sounding a bit uncomfortable, "...Might be a bit much."
Folding her arms over her chest, Reiko went on, "But if that brother-in-law of mine is really serious, I can realistically see him at least consider doing so. He has shown a tendency to go overboard sometimes, what with the times he's tried to spoil me and Shoto's son."
"There's just something that worries me, though," Dark Shadow said as he popped out of Fumikage, "How will Felgrand and Gigantomachia deal with the zombies?"
"There's still so little that's known about them," Yosetsu said, "We need more info before we can safely move on ahead."
Pony scowled bitterly. "It's stupid as hell that they raised Katsuki. What's next, are they going to raise Katsuki's mom as well?"
...
The reanimated body of Mitsuki Bakugo stood in formation with a number of other zombies in a remote area away from the Regime's eye. Desumi, followed by Shouta, Hizashi, and a number of other Rebellion members, were walking past the line when Shouta and Hizashi stopped and turned to look at zombie Mitsuki, who just stood there and was doing nothing. "...This is Bakugo's mother," Shouta said.
"She was among the number of dead from that incident Endeavor caused over twenty years ago," Desumi said, "All of the dead from that incident, save for a woman who was quirkless and working at the salon that day, were taken to the cryogenic deep freeze morgue to be preserved and stored. Part of how researchers wanted to study the quirks of the dead." Desumi turned to look at Shouta and Hizashi. "I was told to get everyone, so I got everyone."
Hizashi looked at the other zombie women who were with zombie Mitsuki; all of the salon employees from that day aside from the quirkless woman, and Mitsuki's friends Mika, Beru, and Rei. Pointing at zombie Rei, Hizashi said, "This is Dabi's mom."
"Hey, we can use the zombified body of Emperor Dabi's mom to play psychological warfare on him," one random Rebellion member behind Hizashi and Shouta said.
"We also got the zombies of Dabi's inner circle members Magne, Nemoto, and Trumpet. We even got Twice, and that's bound to help," said another rebel.
Shouta, although sickened by the idea of doing such a thing, had to see the logic behind it; villains usually used such tactics against heroes, but this time it would be the heroes using said tactics against villains. The rogue underground hero hoped that he'd never have to use villainous tactics again after the Regime is removed from power and freedom is restored everywhere, though. The rebels and Desumi continued walking to inspect the undead troops, and stopped at another group.
"Ah yes," Desumi said as she gestured to the group of undead that the rebels stopped in front of, "All these are victims from the traffic accident caused by Mirko recklessly fighting a nomu sometime before Endeavor wrecked a salon while trying to apprehend a few girls from Dabi's fold." Folding her arms over her chest, Desumi went on, "I got every victim, except for some six year old girl who was on the list of casualties from that incident. Satsuki Asui, I believe her name is. For some reason that I can't explain, her body wasn't to be found."
"...I had a student named Tsuyu Asui in my last homeroom class I taught at UA before the Regime rose to power," Shouta said, "She was killed in the attack on the USJ after the first week of that school year had passed."
Desumi arched a wry eyebrow in confusion. "Then why wasn't that Tsuyu girl with the Mineta, Sato, Koda, Iida, and Bakugo boys? I mean we got the Asui mom from the group of victims from Endeavor wrecking that salon, and the Asui dad is among the victims from Mirko causing that massive traffic accident." Indeed, the raised corpse of Ganma Asui stood among the raised victims of Mirko's recklessness. "We got the parents, so why not the daughters?" Desumi asked, "Also, we got it that the Asui brother had also been reported to have died, but his body is also missing. What gives?"
Shouta folded his arms over his chest. "I'm only approving the raising of dead at all because the Rebellion is that desperate for numbers to field against the Regime, but even so I would NEVER approve of raising dead minors under first year high schooler age."
"I'm only asking because I'm just curious and confused about the matter," Desumi said, "Although you would of had to tell me to back off from raising them from the dead if they were there because I was told to get everybody."
"Yango..." Shouta said in a warning tone.
"Well she does have a point, Sho," Hizashi said, "We did tell her to get everybody."
Turing to look at Hizashi, Shouta admonished, "Hizashi!" in a shocked tone. Sighing, Shouta said, "Whatever. I would have objected anyway, so we could have stopped her from raising someone too young." Looking out over the ranks of undead that the Rebellion now had to field against the Regime, Shouta saw that there were loads and loads from the cryogenic deep freeze morgue; civilian casualties from incident aside, there were also a good number of raised pro heroes, among which Shouta was shocked to see both Nemuri and Emi, the latter being the woman who birthed Shouta's son Oboro.
There were many deceased standing at formation, waiting for whatever order they'll be given next. Orders coming from Desumi after she got them from the Rebellion. With what all the rebels had here, plus the psychological impact it'll have on Regime members, Shouta was feeling both confident and guilty, and was really hoping that this is the push that was needed to topple the Regime and see the Rebellion bring freedom back to Japan, then the world after that. Shouta was hoping that this vile evil before him will be the only time that the Rebellion would ever had to resort to using such darkness.
He hoped that it would be the darkness before the light.
END, CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the zombies of Bakugo, Mineta, Tenya, Koda, and Sato confronted and captured. They tried using their quirks (aside from Tenya who got frozen before he could try) but found themselves unable to do so, and it's theorized that them being undead makes their quirks work either differently or not at all despite still being there. The captured zombies are then brought in for study, with some help from nomus which is a surprise as they saw their usage cease a long while ago. Dabi has a chat with Ujiko and learns he's still acting on nomu-crafting despite being told to stop, but Ujiko's able to talk his way out of it, and also gets ready to receive the zombie teen to study them and learn more about them.
Fuyuki talks to his family aside from Izuku, Ochaco, and Pony who aren't there, and they're concerned about the zombies. Inko's pissed her dad's one of the zombies, although the family's distracted by Fuyuki's dragon-crafted silver ring. He tells them the tale about it, leaving out things he feels ought to be private, and the family is surprised to learn that Felgrand's got a girl in his life. Then Izuku and everyone from his year of UA's hero course (that's alive) has a meeting to discuss how to handle the zombie situation. A situation's that about to get trickier because the Rebellion, having Desumi help them, has raised a large number of undead, a great enough force to let them openly challenge the Regime
Shouta notes several notable people among the undead army, consisting of (nearly) every named character who had died prior to the timeskip, with a whole slew of nameless extras. There will also be a few undead from after the timeskip, but that can be covered later. Anyway, some undead action will be seen in the next chapter, so keep your eyes peeled. Until then, take care.
