Nikki Pov:
"I've taken to earth really well after being adopted by Rintrah and the others, there a family that I never thought I needed after I lost my mother. While it is confusing most of the times since he works for a department that's involved with a much of messed up people and protecting the city from obscure threats, it feels like old home back when I was with the Kree. Still, he's been focused on what happened to the previous owner of Sorcerer Supreme and this 'threat' that took him away several years ago. Not exactly an excuse for myself since both my moms are giving me books on Earth culture and non human history in order to adapt safely in the city, still I always get the impression there's more to learn than from books."
Morning-Sanctum Sanctorum
Waking up bright and early to see the city wake up, Nikki was up on the rooftop looking at her new home and how across the air was man birds flying above her cawing and spitting out the usual insults which had become normal for her. Her parents were at work leaving her to enjoy the place to herself without anyone to bother her, including having some snacks that she was introduced by Jennifer. Heading over to side of the ledge was a small stash of snacks that she kept hidden from Randall since he enjoyed eating snacks, grabbing a chair and radio box by the side. She sits down and turns it on playing morning music since it seemed the perfect day for herself to have a lazy day.
"So this is what it feels like to be lazy. Humans got it too easy."
Telling herself since she's seen numerous humans from her parents' jobs acting like there was no type of problems happening in their lives. Deciding to try it herself, Nikki kicked up her feet to enjoy the fresh air and music that she's grown fond of. Not noticing from behind her was a shadow blocking the sunlight covering her as Nikki could felt the warm from the sun not on her.
"Mind sharing those chips?"
A voice asking the alien child which startled her enough to aim her hand towards the stranger which caused whoever to sneak up on her to collapse onto the ground. Getting up quickly to see who she attacked, luckily enough it was Randall who had most of his flesh torn off from Nikki's blast.
"Shit kid, remind me not to ask you for juice if you're going blast my face off."
Groaning him from the blast as Nikki helped him up and offered him the snacks since she almost killed him with the attack, though he might have survived since he was technically dead. Offering him the snacks Nikki calmed herself and noticed how her hair was brightly lit due to the surprise visit.
"Sorry. Still a little jumpy with how everyone's acting with that conversation Rintrah had with the others."
Apologizing for her actions as well admitting that she's been feeling worried about this 'entity' talk that's been going around in the house and startling the R'Vaalian. Randall noticed the girl not looking alright and how it seemed to be bothering her. Though what did catch him off guard was Nikki calling him by his first name and not dad.
"You know, it's not exactly a good thing to call a parent by their first name. Otherwise you would get the look from them and then put on chores for a week, been there done that."
Informing Nikki that calling parents by their name wasn't a smart thing to do as he felt like she was still having trouble adapting here in the city. Nikki, realizing that merely kept quiet from his comment which had the zombie now confused as he got the feeling there was more to this moment. Unable to figure out how to handle this since he never spent time with Nikki since he would be the last person to talk to, he decided to try and act like an uncle to her due to how she would want to discuss this unordinary problem.
"Ok kid. Now I know this would be your 'alone' time and from a fellow expert in being by myself, I know when I see someone looking crappy. So spill."
Getting straight to the issue and questioning what was wrong with the fire hair girl to which Nikki expressed an angered look with her hair going up in flames. Randall didn't look so afraid since he knew he struck a nerve with Nikki, though she quickly lowered her fire to make sure she didn't burn him as Randall was right about being alone for the day.
"I'm, just feeling scared. This is like my mom back in space going off protecting people and space along getting all kinds of crap and having a smile on her face. That was until the last mission she was on, leading to her not coming back."
Recalling how Rintrah was acting like her previous mother who always handled any danger without fear or regret. Only to fall when something much powerful and dangerous happened which left her parentless, Nikki could still remember how it went. Ko-Rel was sent on a mission to stop a cosmic storm from destroying a nearby star station, she was the only one to evacuate everyone on the station before the storm covered the entire station. After hearing of her death and learning that the Kree soldiers wouldn't send anyone to rescue her, she lost herself and accidentally destroyed one of their battle cruisers. Randall could see the stress coming off Nikki from thinking that Rintrah and the others might possibly get themselves dead if they continue to look into this situation.
"You know what you said is dumb right?"
Asking the girl which made Nikki ready to burn him for sharing a personal moment since she hasn't done it since she lost her mother. Randall quickly saw how he was going get attacked but had to correct himself before Nikki would call the others and have them tear him apart.
"I mean, is that if anything happened to Rintrah then Jen would look after you. If it happens again then Callie and God knows me, or in the long run Leonard. The point is Rintrah has made a lot of friends, some of them screwed up but friends who look after their own. So you don't have three parents, you have a adoptive family."
Explaining about the numerous people that Rintrah has encountered in the city and making relationships with each of them along with seeing they would return the favor in helping him. From Callie's perspective when she was in space, she only had her mother since everyone else remained focus on their job. Here, the coworkers were treated like friends and family since they occasionally hanged out when they weren't working. While most of the times that Randall would say utter nonsense that annoy people, this was the only time he was right that their friends were considered family.
"If that's the case, don't expect me to call you uncle."
Nikki joking with Randall which left the zombie to chuckle at the joke and seeing she'd fit perfectly with him if anything happened to Rintrah and the girls. Sharing the tender moment with each other, they noticed a certain cawing in the air which had the zombie look up to see what was making the racket.
"Suck my balls!"
Shouted none other than a man bird that was speaking out directly towards them which confused Randall since most manbirds would say anything at random. Never unless it was going to confront someone, which seemed to be the two of them. One of the birds flying down cawing at them with the intent on attacking was stopped by Nikki who placed a shield around Randall which burned the flying creature and falling to the ground. The two looked at where the man bird crashed as it was in a nearby dumpster.
"Shit, I'm thinking we need to get inside now. Cause those bastards never fly alone."
Randall starting to get freaked out since manbirds are dangerous when someone attacks their own as the two suddenly see a flock of manbirds heading directly towards them. Not taking the chance to see what an angry man bird looks like, Nikki pulled Randall inside quickly before hearing the manbirds hitting the rooftop trying to make their way into the sanctorum.
"I'm going bang your mom!"
Hearing another deviant comment from the creature as more were trying to get into the building. Heading towards the living room to call Rintrah or anyone that could figure out what was happening as the manbirds continued to infest the home as they tried to enter by any means possible.
"I know how to handle this."
Nikki telling the zombie as Randall was trying to call on his phone to see if he could get a call from the outside. Though he wasn't getting a signal as Nikki went to a nearby bookshelf where she tried to look for anything about house protection since it has been attacked multiple times in the past. Finding one of the books that could help them out, Nikki looked at the fireplace where she begins to turn on the gas.
"Cover your eyes."
Warning Randall as she placed both hands into the fireplace which suddenly ignited it upwards through the chimneystack which engulfed the outside of the building in fire and burning the manbirds that were swarming around them. Randall could feel the heat surrounding all around him as well took a second to see what happened, in which the fire was raging from the outside thinking that Nikki might have burned the street.
"Nikki? I think you just burned the street outside; I'm not catching any blame for this."
Responding to what Nikki just did as the zombie took a moment to look outside to see nothing but baked manbirds fallen on the ground and leaving the building. Opening the doors, he saw how nothing looked burned and everything looking the same.
"The gas is from a race called the Faltine. A race of living fire, the previous sorcerer harnesses their flame to make any part of the house warm. Plus channeled it as a means of protection to attack intruders and not harm anyone outside who isn't an enemy. Also, your welcome."
Doing an explanation on why they weren't going to be blamed for burning the street with a smile at how while Randall was trying to not freak out. She managed to handle the situation without any problem, though the two didn't notice from behind them was a half fried manbird with scorched wings looking at them with a murderous look.
"Suck, my. Balls!"
Screeching from behind the two catching them by surprise as it was about to attack them, it didn't attack due to a grappling hook going straight around the bird's neck. Pulled right pass them was Moon Knight who was covered in feathers which meant he had several encounters with the manbirds.
"Guess I'm not the only one with this problem."
Responding to the hostile manbird incident as he quickly snaps its neck ending the creature's life quickly leaving the two shocked at how fast he killed the creature. They saw how the white capped man took a look at the feathers saw numerous purple markings that were burned into the body.
"I need to see the others now."
Stating that this was more than just aggressive behavior from the manbirds. There was something going on in the city and it apparently revolves around Rintrah and the girls since they've been looking into the anomaly that took the previous sorcerer away from New York. Hearing those words and noticing the situation around her, Nikki was getting the feeling of losing her family all over again.
Later-DOI Building
Right at the Department of Integration center was Rintrah who apparently was lost in countless papers and meetings he was supposed to handle here at work. Though after spending several weeks in his investigation of the incident, he's been behind work at the DOI. He got halfway through the work and meeting several people who wanted to work in the city. He's spent over five hours completing any missing work that was left for him by Twayne, which he could tell that his demon boss was happy to see him drowning in paperwork.
"Miss being back at the table again?"
A voice speaking from behind the R'Vaalian as Rin took a moment to finish the last paper to see his former mentor Leonard, who apparently looked drunk and had with him what looked like a blowup doll in his possession. Taking a moment to point it out, the elderly wizard quickly tried to not make it look weird.
"Oh this! It's just a joke from Wrecker about how I'm still single after all these centuries. Jokes on him, me and Jeanette have become a couple. Ironic since wizards and dragons have been enemies for a long time, but now we're boning. Ironic isn't it?"
Asking Rintrah which made the bull shrug his shoulders since he's grown custom to the usual occurrences of the DOI. Putting away the doll, Leonard sat down to take a look at his files while looking at his former apprentice noticing a stressful look on his face.
"How's your investigation about the missing sorcerer. Which I'm saying it's a bad idea since it'll turn you into prime ribs."
Bringing up his ongoing studying about what exactly attacked New York years ago and what took Stephen Strange away from them. Hearing how he seemed concern about the R'Vaalian's research into the incident, Rintrah took a moment to put away the papers that Twayne handed him and showed the file that Sabrina had in her possession. Opening it up he showed Leonard about what attacked New York and caused problems in the city.
"From what Sabrina was able to write, it doesn't just attack people enrages them. While some people can survive like you and me due to the magic we possess, ordinary citizens and non-humans can turn into raging beasts."
Explaining about there was much more to the portal that opened up which caused certain emotional changes to people if they didn't have enhanced abilities. Continuing to show Leonard how there was more to the anomaly, they heard the door open which startled the two which was Callie who had several files in her hands with a serious look on her face.
"Look alive boys, we've got new cases that need handling and it's none the less perfect to help fill our status quo."
Stating to her boyfriend and the wizard about several new cases opening up which got Rintrah's attention since he hasn't heard anything about them. Taking a chance to look at them, reading the papers it showed numerous incidents happening in the city including zombies attacking stores and manbirds becoming aggressive leaving them to attack civilians.
"This type of work would go to Grimes and the Wrecking Crew. Where are they?"
Asking about where their security force was since they'd would handle the situation and end it before it got uncontrollable. Coming into the office was Grimes who looked almost beat up and covered in bruises, while having a smile on his face seemingly glad he was beaten up and was barely alive.
"This. Has to be the most pain in the ass and exhilarating day of all time, it's all out hell going outside and I'm bringing all kinds of punks in here."
Admitting to them how it seemed he was busy handling several arrests and how each of them had been exciting than the last. Rintrah took the chance to see if Grimes needed to be healed, however he noticed what looked like a purple type of wound on his skill and still glowing. His eyes widen at the wound as he rushed over to check out the files that was on the incident, seeing a photo of the portal that attacked numerous civilians it had the same color that the wound Grimes had obtain from the problems that started to happen.
"It's starting."
Sounding worried about that this was connected which made Callie confused at his tone of voice as he saw the photos he got from Mallory and noticing how the attacks were connected. She was about to question her boyfriend about what got him acting serious until they heard a cluttering sound from down the hallway. Grimes taking charge noticed Twayne who apparently had his pockets full of snacks from the vending machine and acting fidgety.
"I don't know what's going on, but I know it has to deal with our 'boss' and you acting like a survivalist nutjob. So spill."
The police officer demanding what was happening since he's been with busy with his work and not keeping an eye out on the R'Vaalian. He knew there was some shifty things happening, and with how Twayne was acting scared like a cat with its tail on fire he should have the idea on what exactly was going on right now. Realizing how the situation seemed to be getting stranger, it seemed right for Rintrah to explain to Grimes about what might be happening to them right now.
Later-Twayne's Office
Moving across the room in a panic, the red demon was gathering all types of belongings from his desk and closet including several backs of money that he kept hidden just in case for an emergency. Packing up everything and making sure he didn't leave anything behind, he was on the phone who was yelling at him loudly which caused Twayne to get even more scared than he already was.
"Of course, mom. I got the protection stones and the company credit card for when things go to hell, not literally but it'll be enough for us to survive whatever is coming into the city. I'm taking the subway right now."
Responding to his mother on the phone as he had to hang up in order to make his way to the trains. Double checking on how he wasn't missing anything, Twayne was about to head out the door and planned on sneaking out without letting anyone know he left. Preparing to head out the door he accidently see's none other than Rintrah along the rest of his employees staring at him with a stern look about what was happening.
"You know what's going sir, tell us."
Rintrah demanding him to explain himself since he seemed urgently to leave the DOI in a hurry after hearing of the recent attacks happening. Trying his best to look serious, he turned to Callie curious if she couldn't handle this since she told them about the news.
"Sorry Twayne. After seeing Grimes injury this more than a DOI incident, it's a sorcerer problem. Now talk."
Commenting about the wound that their officer had gotten convinced her that there was more to this situation. Twayne moved back seeing how they came into his house waiting to see what he'd say to them, the red headed demon had no choice but to obligated them with what's going on. Walking over to his personal bar and grabbing a drink, he would have to explain about what exactly was going on.
"No, not a problem. But a prophecy that has been denied multiple times by people like the DOJ and folks like yourself Rin. The same prophecy that us demons and wished for along tried to start that involves the end of days."
Expressing to the four about this involved the demon's belief in the end of days coming as it had been predicted that a demonic force would be the one to bring it. They listen to Twayne's explanation not thinking that this was the first time he was being serious as well not smiling at the topic about bringing the downfall of humanity.
"What's happening now is because there's to much peace, everyone is getting along and there isn't much chaos. Balance is screwed and now needs to be even out, which what we're about to enter."
Turning his back behind the four as they heard a scream from outside which made the others look at what was going on. Right outside was several people acting out and starting all kinds of trouble, zombies smashing into doors to sasquatches terrifying people. Most of them had one thing in common which was their eyes glowing purple and having the look of causing complete chaos around them and to anyone that was right by them.
"Which Prophecy is this exactly?"
Rintrah questioning him as he didn't know what was happening in New York as suddenly they heard the door from behind them bash right open which startled the group. Seeing a shadowy figure by the broken doorway, was Xemnu who had purple markings around his white fur and appeared just as hostile as the others outside. Everyone kept against the wall not knowing how to approach their coworker as he wasn't in the right mind, while Twayne was hiding behind Rintrah since he was almost the same size as Xemnu and using him as a shield to avoid getting attack. Though the R'Vaalian still wanted to know what Prophecy he was talking about.
"Apocalypsegeddon."
Answering the Sorcerer's question as the word sounded like the combination of apocalypse and armageddon. His two least favorite words along the feeling that if this was happening here in the city, then everyone would be encountering these attacks leading him and the others to stop this end of the world prophecy before anything else happens to New York.
