Season 2 Episode 6 Part One
Springfield Illinois
Making their way into the town they immediately ran into trouble courtesy of Lucy who was very much a zombie magnet and it wasn't long before they were surrounded.
They were stood in the middle of a street with a few tall brick building around them and a school bus behind them stopping any z's sneaking up behind them.
Vasquez and Warren were standing a few feet from them shooting and stabbing any z's who got close. 10k climbed up on a car and was using his slingshot to shoot gears at the z's. Addy was using her whacker to hit the z's while Ellie was using her slingshot to shoot z's further away from her and knifing any in the head when they got up close and personal. What ever Murphy had done before had now worn off and the zombies were now eager to eat her.
Doc was using an old baseball bat he found to whack any z's across the head.
"Come on!" He shouted at an oncoming z who was wearing a helmet and he bashed him across the head mutiple times until he went down.
While Addy used a truck she was standing by to pivot off into a oncoming zombie driving her z-whacker into its skill. 10k slingshotted a gear into another zombie that came up behind her.
During all the chaos Murphy had been acked up into a blje van with a crying Lucy in his arms as Cassandra tried to hold them up. Even Murphy's skills wouldn't keep them away.
Seeing them struggling Ellie shot some of them with her crossbow and then ran towards them using her knife to stab one in the head that was getting very close to Murphy. But more were still coming.
"Doc!" Murphy shouted and when Doc turned Murphy threw baby Lucy into the air towards Doc who threw his bat on the floor to catch her. Once he did he turned and ran into the school bus, shutting the door. But after a few seconds they heard Doc shout out
"Let me out of here!" He shouted and they saw him banging the door but it was stuck. "Guys, come on! Open the door!"
Ellie ran to the door and so did 10k and Addy as they tried to pry the door open, finally they did and Doc stumbled out followed by a load of zombies dressed as Abraham Lincoln
"What in God's name?" Warren said her gun raised as she appeared behind them
"Oh, good. You see them too" Doc said sounding relieved he wasnt going crazy
"Addy, hot potato." Turning to Addy, Doc tossed Lucy to her who droppd her whacker and cuaght the baby and the z's followed.
"Warren! Lucy!" warren put her gun away and held her hands out and Addy tossed Lucy to her and once again the z's followed.
Addy picked up her z whakcer helping Doc with the abe zombies and 10k covered Warren while she ran with Lucy, taking out her gun she shot one of the z's that got infront of her but she was soon surronded.
Ellie!" Warren shouted and Ellie turned from shooting a zombie in the head to see baby Lucy flying towards her. Dropping her crossbow to her hip, Ellie ran forward kicking a zombie in the legs that was in her way sending him to floor. She held her arms out catching Lucy and she pulled her close to her chest as she looked down to make sure she was ok, but when she looked back up she realised that every zombie was now making their way towards her.
Pulling her knife out she stabbed one that got close in the head then turned and ran towards a car climbing onto the bonnet and up to the roof while the others took care of the zombies.
Once all the z's were gone Ellie climbed down from the car standing next to Warren while Doc leaned down to pick up a Lincoln hat placing it on his head. Looking past Doc they saw Murphy run around the corner of the bus followed by Cassandra heading straight to Ellie.
"I'll take her now." He said to Ellie eager to have her back in his arms
"Shes fine Murphy, I wouldn't let anything happen to her" Ellie reassured him but he still made grabby hands. Ellie sighed but gently placed Lucy into his arms and he smiled down at Lucy.
"Oh, there you go, Adorable, isn't she?" Murphy said looking at Warren
"Thought you didn't like babies"
"I never said that." Murphy denied "Said I didn't like THAT baby. But she's Daddy's precious little angel, aren't you?". Looking down at Lucy he continued to speak to her in baby talk until he sensed everyone looking at him "What?"
Everyone looked away and when Murphy walked away they all started making their way back into the forest where they made camp for a little while.
"I can't believe people used to wear these" Doc said gesturing to the hat on his head. "I mean, they're cool and all. But what's the point?"
"Storage" Addy joked and Doc smiled stopping next to Ellie while Addy and Ellie continued walking over to Warren, Vasquez and 10k who were by a tree stump.
It wanst long when Doc joined them. "Hey, is anybody else worried about the baby?"
"I don't know whether to be worried for that baby or afraid of that baby" warren said she had taken off her jacket and was drinking out of a water bottle. "You see the way she attracts Zs?"
"That baby -and I use the word loosely - is gonna get us all killed." Vasques said cleaning his gun
"You do realise that she is only a few days old right and babies cry" Ellie said also taking off her jacket to reveal her red stappy top. She then pulled the bobble out of her hair to fix her high pony tail. Strands had fallen out after dodging all the z's "And we've always managed with the z's"
"Bro, she's a baby. Relax." Addy said agreeing with Ellie. She now had her scarf drapped around her shoulders.
"Yeah. A baby sprung from Murphy's loins." Doc said
"She's not just a baby. She's something else. She could grow up to be the saviour of the human race or the queen of destruction, and we need to find out which and do what we gotta do." Warren said
"Ok I get she could be a threat... but she didn't ask to be born... and I know you think Im probably saying this just becuase shes my half sister but she is also just a baby. So before you commit to possibly taking out a baby we need to make damn sure that its the only option. Yeah?" Ellie said firmly and Warren and the others nodded which made Ellie feel a little but better.
Warren made her way over the shack they were staying in followed by Ellie, Addy and Doc. Looking back she saw Vasquez sneaking off again, but as of right now that was the least of her worries.
Sitting down Ellie used her knife to make some more arrows while Warren sharpened the blade on her hatchet, while Doc was searching in his bag for something and Addy was making something out of grass
They stayed like that for a little while until 10K caught their attention walking through the shack with a fish in his hands.
"Caught some trout."
"Kid, you are a fishing guru" Doc said walking forward as he pulled the fish up by the chain "What's your secret?"
"Be one with the fish." He said and they all chuckled
"Far out" Doc said
Giving the fish to Doc, 10k walked past Warren who gave him a fist bump and squatted down next to were Ellie was sitting, watching Murphy and Cassandra from a distance.
"Well, I got some foil in here somewhere. We're gonna fry one of them bad boys up." Doc announced looking in his bag while Ellie looked at 10k surveying his face.
"You ok?" she whispered placing her hand on his knee. Looking down slightly at her hand she saw his lips twitch into a small smile and he placed his hand on top of hers squeezing it gently to reassure her before looking back up at her face.
"Im good" Ellie smiled at him and he nodded turning back to look at Murphy but he didn't move his hand. They both felt the change in their relationship but at the moment it was like they didn't know how to react towards it. So that left some longing looks, or a brush of a shoulder or hand or a reassuring touch or by just being close. Which was good enough for Ellie.
"Hey." Warren said drawing Ellies attention back to her "We need to get a look at that baby."
"Yeah, well, good Dad over there won't let anybody touch her. Except Ellie" Addy whispered not wanting to be over heard.
"Not always though and not for long" Ellie added "and majority of the time I have him or Cassandra right by me"
"I'm guessing he's afraid we're gonna leave her behind" Addy said before adding "Which isn't something that we're actually considering doing, right?"
"Something tells me she's gonna outlive us all." Warren said reassuring her
"Good" Addy said relieved
"Where's Vasquez?" Warren asked realising that he wasn't there
"Disappeared again." Doc said
"I passed him in the woods,heading south toward town" 10k said turning to look at Warren
"Well, I'm gonna find out where he keeps disappearing to" Warren said pulling on her jacket "And you, see if you can't get that baby away from Murphy...Save me some fish." She said walking away.
Gathering around each other they tried to figure away to get Murphy away from the baby when Ellie could sense someone watching them, turning her head she saw that Murphy and Cassandra was watching them and boy did they look suspicious. Ellie waved to them trying to help but he didn't wave back.
"Murphy knows where up to something" Ellie said turning to look at them. Tapping her knees she rose to her feet "Ok new plan, why don't I just ask him if I can hold my baby sister?"
"Do you think he'd buy that?" Addy asked her
"Probably less suspicious then one of you asking" Ellie said
"What if he tried to take you again?" 10k asked
"He's got no where to run and I dont think he'd try to hurt me especially not with Lucy around, just keep talking and I'll see if I can get the baby" Ellie said standing up
"Be careful" 10K said as she passed and Ellie nodded making her way to Murpy and Cassandra who never took her eyes of her.
"Hey Murphy" Ellie said smiling as she approached
"Hey" He said suspiciously when she stopped infront of him
"How is Lucy doing after all the throwing?"
"Shes fine" He dismissed quickly "What were you guys talking about? You looked deep in thought."
"Oh, Vasquez keeps disappearing. We're worried about whats hes up to" Ellie said not exactly lying.
"Im sure you'll figure it out...What do you want?"
"Could I hold Lucy for a while?"
"Why?"
"Because shes my sister and I just wanted a cuddle. Do you really think I'd hurt her?"
Standing up Murphy stepped towards her staring her down. "You I dont, them I don't know" Murphy said gesturing to the others. Stopping infront of her Murphy focused on her eyes "What are you up to?" He asked her and Ellie could feel something, like something was prodding at her mind. Or someone.
Realising what he was trying to do Ellie tried to step back but Murphy grabbed her arm holding her still "What are you and your friends trying to do?" He asked again and Ellie could feel his presence again
"Stop it!" Ellie said firmly trying to pull away "I just wanted to hold her, thats it. Stop trying to get in my head"
"I don't believe you" Murphy said firmly "Tell the truth"
"Murphy!" Doc shouted drawing his attention from Ellie and he losened his grip allowing Ellie to pull her hand away and back up right into 10k, turning her head she saw that all three of them was now behind her.
"You ok?" 10k asked her
"Fine" Ellie said glaring at Murphy
"Hey, what is she chewing on?" Doc asked
"I dunno." Focusing back on Lucy "Something she picked up."
"Is that a finger?"
"Maybe" He said trying to pull the finger out of her mouth and when he did she started crying. "Great. You happy now?"
"Look, Murphy, nobody's saying you're a bad father. We just think it'd be a good idea to give the baby a little check-up, that's all." Doc said
"There is nothing wrong with little Lulu. And since when are you a paediatrician, huh?" Murphy said backing up towards Cassandra
"Murphy, she's just had sugar water to eat. Let Doc have a quick look." Addy tried
"She looks fine to me."
"Takes a village." Doc said and Murphy scoffed backing away "I don't know what you're up to. I don't like it." Turning he started walking away and Cassandra jumped infront of them when she saw they were following
"Stop following me!"
"We're not following you."
"You're afraid of her, afraid of what she might become, what we might become. "Don't forget - I've seen how you treat babies."
"And we've seen how you treat humans" 10k said
"Murphy no one wants to hurt her ok, but yes we are cautious. She is the first of her kind we just want to take a look at her thats it. You'll be with her the whole time" Ellie said trying to disfuse the situation, but Murphy wasnt budging.
"I'm not gonna let you hurt her." Murphy said looking at 10k and the others
"Murphy..." Ellie tried but he interupted her
"Shh, shh. The baby and I are going for a walk. Make sure they stay here." He said turning to Cassandra "Nobody leaves."
"Nobody leaves." Cassandra repeated in a scary voice
"Where do you think you're going?" Addy asked trying to step forward but Cassandra intercepted her.
"Someplace safe from people like you." Murphy replied looking at them all but when he looked at Ellie his gaze softened "only hurt them if they try to leave, tie Ellie up if she tries, knock her out if you have too. But with minimal damage" Murphy said walking away.
Gathering around the rock they tried to figure away to get from Cassandra who was watching them a few feet infront of them
"I think we gotta go after him" Addy said "He shouldn't be out there alone,
especially not with the baby"
"What about Little Miss Sunshine over there? He told her to stop us." Dos said looking over at Cassandra
"She can't stop all of us at once." 10k said
"I dunno. I think we should wait for Warren and Vasquez. They'll be here soon." Doc said
"We don't even know where they are. And what if something happens to the baby? Or Murphy? He didn't take any food for the baby. Why would he not
take food for the baby?" Addy asked
"Oh, he wouldn't do that, would he?" Doc said
"We don't know what he's capable of. He's more zombie than he is human."
"Yeah but I dont think he'd hurt her, not with the way he reacted when we just wanted to look at her" Ellie said "But he cant control the z's when Lucy is crying"
"There's four of us and one of her. If she tries to stop us...we'll do what we have to do." 10k said
"What does that mean?" Addy asked but she already knew
"She's not Cassandra,not anymore."
"I don't know, man. She is getting weirder. And you've seen how strong she is." Doc said
"She would not hurt us, not really." Addy said trying to defend her
"I wouldn't be so sure." Doc said and Ellie couldn't help but agree
"We all run in different directions. She'll grab one of us. The other two can go look for Murphy." 10k said
"What if she hurts one of us to get us to come back, Murphy didnt say not to hurt us just hurt me less" Ellie said
"We'll deal with that if it comes to it" 10k said and they all nodded.
"Alright. We're doing this." Addy said standing up and the rest followed
"I hope she doesn't overreact and do something crazy." Doc said sounding nervous.
They all turned to face different directions preparing to run and when Addy said 'now' they all ran. Ellie went to run one way when she found her hand tugged backwards and then she was being pulled along with 10k.
Running through the woods they could hear Cassandra following. They dodged past branches, jumped over logs and rocks until they came to a water wheel when suddenly they heard a scream. Coming to a stop they heard it again, a painful scream sounded out in the distance.
"Addy" Ellie said fear in her voice. Wasting no time she turned on the spot and ran towards the screams and she could hear 10k following.
Making their way to a clearing they saw Doc just in front on them and Addy on the floor with Cassandra on top off her pulling her arm against her back.
"Cassandra, stop it!" Doc said coming to a stop infront of them but she didnt listen.
"Cassandra let her go" Ellie said breathlessly coming to a stop next to Doc and so did 10k. Cassandra looked up at Ellie and hesitated so she stepped closer and said firmly. "Let her go now!"
Finally Cassandra let her go and got off her and Ellie helped Addy stand up.
"What the hell were you doing?!" Doc said
"Nobody leaves" Cassandra said simply a dark look on her face.
"Lets regroup" Ellie whispered to them wrapping her arm around Addy as they backed away, Doc followed but 10k stayed put. "10k lets go" Ellie urged but he stayed glaring at Cassandra.
Ellie gently pushed Addy to Doc and they carried on walking towards the rocks in the middle of the clearing while Ellie walked back to 10k, touching his elbow gently he turned his head to look at her.
"I get you're angry but if you try and do something now without a plan its probably not going to end well, so please lets go over there calm down a little and think" Ellie begged him and he nodded after a few seconds, grabbing her hand in his he walked over to the others and they sat down.
"How's the arm?" Doc asked Addy
"Feeling's starting to come back." Addy replied looking down at her arm
"What are we doing about 'it'?" 10k asked still holding Ellies hand and Ellie didn't think he really realised he was doing it. "We can't just stay knows what Murphy's up to?"
"Could we try talking to her?" Doc said trying to be helpful but he knew it wasnt an option
"I don't think she's in a talking mood" Addy scoffed leaning her head back against the rock she was resting against.
"She'll talk to me." 10k said letting go of Ellies hand he pulled out his gun and knife and stood up taking his coat of. "Get ready to run." He said walking towards Cassandra before anyone could stop him.
"What the hell is he doing?" Addy said taking the words right out of Ellies mouth
"I don't know, but when somebody tells me to get ready to run, I get ready to run." Doc said tying up his laces on his dappers.
10k Pov
Walking over to Cassandra, 10k crouches in front of her as he tried to get her attention
"Cassandra?" He said and Cassandra growled "Cassandra, we need to talk. You really hurt Addy, Cassandra." She turned to look at him slightly before quickly turning back to watch the others
"Cassandra, need to look for Murphy. We want to help him, but we need to find him first."
"Nobody leaves." Cassandra repeated and then 10k knew what he had to do, turning his head he looked back at Ellie and the others and Doc and Addy ran pulling Ellie with them.
Cassandra went to lunge at them but 10k grabbed her around the waist pulling her back, allowing the others to get away.
