Caroline saw Daryl, Carol and some of the others getting ready for a mission and Caroline walked to Daryl.

"Hey," she said and Daryl looked at her.

"Hey," Daryl said.

"Where're you goin'?"

"We're goin' back to the military base."

"Shit. If I had known that, I wouldn't have told Aaron I'd help him with the walls."

"Then you better get goin'."

Caroline playfully pushed him as he laughed and she rolled her eyes.

"Just be careful," Caroline said and he nodded. She watched him head for Carol and the others then she watched them leave and she sighed. She shook her head while she walked away, but a cold feeling moving through her made her feel like something was wrong.

"Stop being paranoid, Caroline," she thought and she walked faster.

Two nights later, Caroline was stretched out on Daryl's couch as she read some of his comic books and Dog was sleeping next to the couch. She knew Daryl didn't mind her using his room when he was away and she liked how safe she felt being surrounded by his things.

She turned the page when a sharp pain moved across her right forearm and she pulled her sleeve down. She was used to muscle spasms and stiffness to her right hand, but the pain felt like she had been cut by something. Not seeing a scratch or muscle twitching, she shook her arm out and Dog lifted its head to look at her.

"Guess I sat on it funny," she assured the dog and Dog snorted a breath of air then lowered its head. She went back to reading as she shook her arm out then she sighed.

Two days later, Caroline was sitting on a crate while she watched Judith, RJ, Hershel, Gracie and Jerry's older kids doing sword practice when she saw Judith heading for the wall and Caroline stood up. She followed Judith when she saw some boys teasing the Walkers trying to get in through the hole in the wall and one of the Walkers was a boy. She wondered who he must have been when he was alive and she flinched when he snapped at one of the boys.

Before she could say something, Judith confronted the boys and Caroline growled at what the boys said to Judith. She was a little shocked when Judith pointed her katana at the boy's throat and the boys ran away.

"Judith!" Caroline called out and Judith looked at her. Judith ran off as Caroline sighed, looked at the Walker boy trying to get in and Caroline shook her head.

A short time later, Daryl, Carol and the others returned as Caroline watched Daryl greet Dog and she softly laughed at Dog trying to get into the hug he was giving Judith and RJ. He saw her when Daryl stood up then he walked to her and Caroline smiled.

"How did it go?" she asked as he hugged her.

"Found some stuff," Daryl said, moving back and she noticed he held his right forearm against his side.

"What did you do?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.

"Nothin'."

She arched an eyebrow as he sighed and he held out his right forearm. She carefully moved the sleeve up as she looked at the rabbit tattoo on his right forearm and she remembered helping Jerry's wife with the tattoo. She then noticed the white bandage near the rabbit's tail as she locked eyes with Daryl and he slowly moved his arm away.

"That doesn't look like nothin'," Caroline said.

"I wasn't bit or scratched," he assured her then Daryl explained what happened.

"Let's go get you looked at."

"I'm fine."

"I get that. But I don't want you to get sick with tetanus. Move!"

Nodding, Daryl followed her as they headed for the medical building and she slid her left arm around his waist. He could feel there was something going on with his twin as he titled his head to one side and she moved a little closer.

"I knew you hurt yerself," she grumbled.

"How?"

"I was in yer room…"

"Readin' my comic books again?" he teased and she nodded.

"I was on the couch when I got this pain in my right forearm. It wasn't a spasm, and there wasn't a lot of pain, but it hurt. Like somethin' or someone scratched me. Thought I just sat on it funny."

"Did you get yer arm checked?"

"Yep. It's fine."

"Hmph."

Neither of them wanted to admit they felt odd about feeling each other's pain as they went inside the medical building and, a few minutes later, Daryl had the wound redressed and he was given some tetanus shots. They walked out of the medical building as they headed for the house when Daryl stopped and she turned to look at him.

"Are you ok?" Caroline asked, walking to him.

"Yeah. Just a little freaked out," Daryl said.

"Are you talkin' about me feelin' yer pain after you got hurt?"

"Yeah. That's never happened before."

"You're right," she said with a sigh. She then remembered something as she smiled and she lightly shook her head. "Guess it means our bond is gettin' stronger."

"Guess so."

"Remember when I told you about the guy I met in Boston?" she asked and he nodded. "He and his brother… They're twins. And they had a really strong bond."

"Did it ever bother them?"

"Nope," she said with a shake of her head. "He told me he always felt safer when his twin was around."

"Do you feel that way? Bein' around me?"

"Yeah," she said. Daryl felt a small tug at his heart and he smiled.

"I feel that way, too."

"But you don't like us feelin' each other's pain."

She was glancing down at his left thigh as he rubbed the spot where he had gotten stabbed while fighting Alpha and he barely nodded his head.

"Then I guess we'll just have to be more careful," she teased and he snorted a laugh. He slid his left arm around her shoulders while she slid her right arm around his waist and they walked away.

A few days later, Caroline sat in the meeting hall while they talked about running out of food and she leaned back in the chair. She had gone out hunting, but hadn't any luck in finding game. She did bag a few squirrels, but not enough to feed everyone.

Caroline sat up straighter when she heard Daryl talking about going with Maggie to Meridian and Caroline looked at her brother. Daryl was looking at Carol then he looked at Caroline and they had a silent conversation. Caroline sighed as she lightly bit her lower lip and she got up. She followed the others outside as she went to get her crossbow and she looked at the backpack. Kneeling down, she held the wooden cross in her right hand while the silver circle pushed against her fingers and she made a small prayer.

She left the room with the crossbow strapped across her back and she half-ran to Daryl. He was adjusting the body armor vest strapped across Dog's chest and sides and the dog panted.

"I'm amazed he let you do that," Caroline said and Daryl stood.

"He's a good dog," Daryl said, patting Dog's head. "You ready?"

"Yep," she said, looking at Carol then at her brother and Daryl shook his head. Holding out his right hand, he took hold of Caroline's left hand and they walked to the others.

The Subway Station

The rain poured heavily around them as Maggie led the way and Caroline wiped the water out of her eyes. She looked at the fedora Daryl had on his head as he stared straight ahead then she turned to look back at Negan. She wasn't sure why he agreed to go with them, but she knew he wanted to do his part.

They arrived at the subway station as Daryl removed the fedora and Caroline flinched when he placed the soaking wet fedora on her head.

"Keep an eye on that," he said and she flipped him off.

They walked down the stairs while Dog stayed close to Daryl and Caroline and she scratched the top of the dog's head.

"Don't wander off," Daryl said and she gave him a confused look.

"Are you talkin' to me or Dog?" she asked.

"Both."

She snorted a laugh as they walked along and she glanced over at Negan. She noticed the angry and confused look on his face as she walked to him and he gave her slightly pleased look.

"Hey, Wild Thing," Negan said.

"Are you ok?" Caroline asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine."

"But…?"

"Ok. I just don't like this. It feels like we're walking into a trap.

"Yeah. I feel that way, too."

"And Maggie wants to kill me."

"Not if Daryl or I have anythin' to say about it."

Nodding, Negan sighed and she lightly nudged him. He nudged her back and they walked onward.

A short time later, the Walkers appeared from the shadows as they headed down the tunnel and Caroline stayed close to Dog and Daryl. They had found the subway cars as Daryl helped her up onto the subway car when Dog ran under the subway car and Daryl frowned.

"Shit," Daryl said and Caroline jumped down to stand next to him.

"Let's go," she said. She hated the idea of leaving the others behind, but she felt worse about letting Daryl go off on his own. They squeezed by some rubble as they went after Dog and Caroline wondered where they were going. Daryl had seen Dog go into a crawl space big enough for him and Caroline to crawl through and he heard a small laugh coming from behind him.

"What's so funny? Daryl asked.

"Just think' about us as babies," Caroline said.

"What?" he asked, looking back at her.

"When we were inside Mom. Did we crawl out of her like this or did they cut us out?"

"Dunno."

They came to the grate and Daryl tried to get it open. Caroline was able to turn around enough to look behind them when she saw the Walkers crawling toward them and her eyes widened.

"Walkers!" she cried out and Daryl fought to get the grate open. Caroline kicked at the Walkers as Daryl got the grate open, hopped out into the next tunnel, turned and he pulled her out of the side tunnel. She slammed the grate shut then they ran down the track.

They were surprised when they found one of Maggie's men and he was injured. Daryl cleaned him up then told him where Maggie was and the man left.

Caroline made a soft whistle when they heard Dog barking and they ran down the track. They found Dog as Caroline knelt down to check the dog, but Dog was uninjured.

"Bad dog," she whispered and Dog whimpered.

"Let's go," Daryl said and she stood up. They started walking as they explored the tunnel when Daryl found a side area. They walked inside the side area as Daryl used the flashlight to look around and they saw the mural painted on the walls. They examined the mural as Daryl looked at the body near the wall and he knelt down. Both of them saw his hand was cut off and Daryl opened the briefcase nest to the body. He removed what was inside the briefcase then placed the items in his backpack and Caroline looked at the photos from the plastic bag. She handed the photos and the plastic bag to Daryl and he looked at the photos.

"Wonder what happened to them," she said and he shrugged. They left the side area as they headed back the way they came and Daryl wonder what happened to the others.

A short time later, Daryl found the subway cars as he heard the sound of Walkers inside the subway cars and he frowned. Quietly, he opened the door as he, Caroline and Dog entered the subway car and Caroline felt something coming from her brother. It was a sense of anger, frustration and determination. He armed his gun as he pointed the gun out in front of him and she removed the gun she had on the left side of her belt.

A sudden rush of memory moved through her as her mind replayed something she had forgotten.

She could clearly see the man she loved and his brother standing in front of her. They were on the same subway train car as she was and she remembered their conversation before they got to their destination. They left the subway train car when armed men appeared on the platform and people started screaming. She ran, but stopped at the stairs and she watched them head for the armed men.

The next thing she knew, they had removed guns from their coats, took aim and they walked side-by-side toward the armed men. She could still hear the gunfire and how they looked as they fired the guns at the armed men.

"Caroline," made her blink as she looked at Daryl then she gave him a look to tell him she was alright. Stepping to stand next to him, Caroline locked her eyes on the Walkers and Daryl started walking. She was slightly behind him as they fired their guns and the Walkers fell to the ground. She watched Daryl kick the Walker back into the other subway car after ramming a grenade into its mouth and he closed the door. They ran back as the grenade went off then he walked to the door. He stepped over the body as Dog hopped over the body and Daryl turned, lifting Caroline up and over the body.

"Come on," he said and they went to find the others.

Meridian

Caroline stayed next to Daryl as they walked down the street and she looked around. She saw the bodies of what looked like Walkers hanging upside down from the trees as she frowned and Daryl lightly patter her right shoulder.

The world seemed to slow down when the Reapers attacked and Caroline ran with Daryl after Dog ran off. She didn't know where they were going as they chased after the dog and Daryl took hold of her right hand then they ran faster.

The next morning, Daryl and Caroline walked by the buildings when they came to a clearing and Daryl stopped when he saw Dog sitting next to a masked woman. Caroline stood next to him as the woman looked at him and Daryl frowned.

He knew Dog wouldn't just sit next to anyone and something caused a crushing feeling in his chest.

"Hello, Daryl," the masked woman said.

Daryl stayed silent and she looked at Caroline.

"Who is she?"

"Ain't none of yer damn business," Daryl said.

"I'm making it my business," she said and she pointed the rifle at Caroline.

"Caroline."

"Caroline?" the masked woman grumbled, lowering the rifle. "Guess it didn't take long for you to get over me."

"Who is she?" Caroline asked.

"Leah," Daryl said, not taking his eyes off of Leah. Leah removed the mask as she gave him a blank look and Caroline frowned.

"Why the hell does she look a little like Carol?" Caroline thought.

Leah carefully moved closer as Dog followed her then the dog walked to Daryl. She looked from Daryl to Caroline then back and she frowned.

"I know you said you had a brother, but you never said anything about a sister," Leah said.

"There's a lot of shit I haven't told you," Daryl thought as he gave Leah an angry look.

"Aren't you glad to see me?"

"Not really," Daryl said.

"What are you doing here?"

"Just passin' through."

"Don't lie. I know you were with the people my team ran into."

"We're not with 'em."

"Right."

"I ain't lyin'. They're just people we're travelin' with."

"Where are you going?"

"None of yer business."

Caroline could see Leah wasn't believing him as Caroline started to move her right hand down toward the handle of her knife, but Daryl looked at her, barely shaking his head.

"Well, seeing that you two are out here on your own, you should join us," Leah said.

"Us?" Caroline asked.

"My group,"

"No thanks," Daryl said.

"That wasn't an offer."

Before Caroline or Daryl could move, men in body armor and carrying rifles and other weapons surrounded them and Daryl glared at Leah.

Meridian - The Reapers' base

Caroline and Daryl could barely see where they were going from having sacks over their heads. Both of them were keeping track how far they walked and how many people were around them by moving their fingers and Caroline felt her right hand cramping up from having her wrists tied together. They kept walking when they were led into a building and they were pushed down onto chairs. Their arms were tied behind their backs when the sacks were removed from their heads and Caroline glanced at Daryl.

She could see the anger on his face as he looked at the men standing in front of them then the door opened and Leah walked in the room. Leah walked to them when she nodded her head for the men to leave and the men walked out of the room.

"Where's Dog?" Caroline asked.

"He's safe," Leah said, looking at her.

"What are you gonna do with us?" Daryl asked.

"I'm going to question you about those people you were with."

"I told you. We were just travelin' with 'em."

"Then why were you fighting along-side them?"

"You were shootin' at us," Caroline said and Leah glared at her.

"I was talking to him."

The curtness of her voice sent memories of Jessie through her mind, but Caroline kept her face blank.

"Leave her be," Daryl warned.

Leah grabbed hold of his jaw as her fingers dug into his skin and she saw the anger in his eyes.

"Carver!" Leah called out and the door opened. Carver walked in the room as he went to stand next to her and Leah looked at Caroline. "Get her outta here."

"Where do you want me to take her?" Carver asked.

"Don't care. Just get her outta here."

Daryl tried to move, but she held on tighter to his jaw and he felt the pain of her pressing his teeth together.

Carver walked to Caroline when he placed the sack back over her head and he leaned closer for her to hear him breathing in her right ear.

"Try to make a break for it and I'll snap your neck," he whispered as he untied her hands after he reached behind her. Caroline stayed still as he tied her wrists together then he pulled her up to her feet. He pushed her toward the door as they left the room and he closed the door.

Leah had watched them leave the room when she looked at Daryl and she smiled.

"If you don't want her harmed, you will tell me what I want to know," Leah said and Daryl glared at her.

Outside, Carver pushed Caroline forward as she tried to see where they were going and she breathed hard through her nose. She had felt Daryl in her head, but now he was gone and the sense of abandonment moved through her.

"He might have done that so you can't feel his pain," she thought when Carver grabbed hold of her left upper arm and she stopped walking.

"Well, who do we have here?" a male voice asked and she tried to see who was talking. She could barely see the man walking closer and she noticed he was wearing what looked like a woolen knit cap.

"She was with those people who attacked the others," Carver said.

"I see. Was she alone?"

"No. She was with some guy. Leah's having a nice talk with him."

"Where are you taking her?"

"Not sure. Leah just told me to take her."

"Let's have a look at her."

Carver pulled the sack off her head as Caroline shook her head out and her wild hair floated around her face.

"My, look at you," Pope said as he moved closer and she glared at him. He walked around her as she felt his eyes moving over her and she flexed her fingers in and out. "What's your name?"

"Heard the guy call her "Caroline"."

"Caroline? That's a nice name."

"Where do you want me to take her?"

"Take her to the barracks. Get her something to eat."

"Why?"

"She looks hungry."

Carver and Caroline watched Pope walk off as she looked at Carver and he pushed her forward. They headed for the main building as they walked inside and Carver led her to the canteen. Caroline looked at the other men as she growled and Carver shoved her in front of him.

"Who the hell is this?" Austin asked.

"Some bitch we caught," Carver said.

"There is no need to be rude," Mancea said, walking to Caroline. She noticed he was wearing a priest collar and he gave her a small smile. "What is your name, Child?"

Caroline glared at him as Mancea sighed then he walked away.

"Move," Carver said, pushing her toward the table. Caroline flexed her fingers as he pushed her onto the chair then he walked toward the table where the scent of food filled the air. He returned with a tray with some food on the plate and what looked like water in the glass. He placed the tray in front of her as she looked at the food, the fork and the paper napkin then she held up her wrists.

"I can't eat if I can't use my hands," Caroline said.

"Do anything and I'll kill you."

"Whatever."

Carver untied her wrists and she picked up the fork.

"Go on. Eat," he said.

"You first," Caroline said, pushing the tray toward him. Carver looked at the food on the tray when he picked up the tray and he walked away. She sat back in the chair as she crossed her arms under her breasts and she snorted a breath of air.

Alexandria

Carol looked out the window as she watched the sun setting and she placed the palm of her right hand against the glass. The soft sound of drums, chanting and flute filled the air as she felt like someone was behind her and she blinked her eyes a few times.

"What happened?" Carol asked in a soft voice.

"They got caught," Jeb said.

"By who?"

"Haven't figured that out yet."

"Are they alright?"

"For now. But don't worry, Earth Mother. Knowin' those two, they will kick th'shit outta them and be home before you know it."

Carol heard the sound of the drums, flute and chanting fading as she looked out the window and tears rolled down her cheeks.
