YOU HAVE TO PLAN TO HAVE KIDS
There was hardly a hair follicle to be seen on Umibozu's shining bald head. In fact, it took every fiber of Canarie's being not to flat-out call him bald the moment he took off his helmet. His appearance was so underwhelming that any excitement she felt about meeting him drained from her system in a matter of seconds. A record-breaking speed in her book.
After bypassing the awkward standoff with the Shinsengumi, the five of them relocated to a diner where they all sat down. Kagura and Umibozu were on the left side, while the others were on the right.
Canarie huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. "I should've known. I should've had some idea that Kagura's dad was Umibozu," she grumbled.
Gintoki, completely oblivious, leaned over and whispered in her ear. "Umibozu? What's that? A demon? Or wait, is he a monk. He's already bald…."
Canarie's eyes twitched. "What? You really don't know? Umibozu is an alien terminator. He travels around the galaxies fighting them."
"Oh, I see… he's the Bald Galaxy Sweeper."
Umibozu flinched at the name and started to crack his knuckles. "Oi. What are you trying to pull. Has it never accrued to you that being bald is the new hot thing?"
"Shut up, baldie," Kagura said bluntly. "Baldie, let me introduce you. This is useless four-eyes Shinpachi."
"What do you mean by useless?" Shinpachi groaned.
"Kagura ignored him and kept going, moving on to Canarie now. "And useless Cana-chan!"
"I suddenly regret saving your ass from that alien," Canarie spat, knowing full well she would be ignored just like Shinpachi.
Kagura then moved on to Gintoki, which was more of the same insults. "And this is useless Gin-chan. They are the ones who've been taking care of me. Say hello."
Umibozu huffed and adjusted his thick-framed glasses that made his face look older than it was. "I bet they just want to use our Yato abilities-"
"Yeah…" Canarie cut in dryly. "Half the people here don't even know what you're saying." She said, gesturing to Gintoki beside her.
"What? You mean use your head to pulverize an egg?" Gintoki grimaced and stood to his full…not so tall height. "A neglectful father has no right to criticize me."
Umibozu rose up to match him. "What? As soon as she disappeared, I went looking for her. I'll have you know girls her age are delicate like glass."
"Your head's made of glass."
That seemed to be the straw that burned the last hair follicle from Umibozu's head. He grabbed Gintoki by his shirt and shook him wildly. "You may say that now, but it'll happen to you once you hit 30! You never know when the follicle goddess may leave you!"
"The point completely slipped over your shinning head, old man!" Canarie shouted and tried to pry Gintoki free.
"In any case, I'm not leaving my daughter with you! I'm bringing Kagura home!"
Kagura quickly jumped up, but she suddenly whirled around and kicked the back of her father's head. "Don't decide that for yourself. Papi, you left home to do whatever you wanted. So you won't interfere with what I'm doing now! If you can do it, so can I. I'll decide when I go back," she stated firmly.
After recovering from the domestic violence from his daughter, Umibozu adjusted himself. "Kagura-chan, a family is like a bird's nest. No bird can keep flying. If they don't have a nest to go back to, they'll fall and die."
"Papi's not that kind of bird. You don't need a nest. I only need a tree branch to rest."
"Then why are you so stubborn about this particular tree? Are there things here that you can't get elsewhere?"
"If I go back, I'll be left with nothing. I want to choose which tree I rest on. If I want to fly, then I will."
Their argument blew away Shinpachi, but before he could even say anything, he was grabbed by the back of his collar and shoved far away. "What? Cana-san?" he exclaimed. "What are you doing?"
Canarie pulled Gintoki away as well. "Getting you guys away from the storm. I have a feeling things are about to blow."
Umibozu continued. "Can't believe you're this arrogant of a kid."
Kagura scoffed. "And I won't take you, baldie ,for a kid."
There was an uneasy silence for only a fraction of a second when umbrellas were pulled out, and furniture started flying everywhere. Canarie ducked away from flying debris as Kagura and Umibozu engaged in an over-the-top fight. It looked like they were doing everything in their power to kill each other and might even bring down the whole city if it went on.
To avoid getting hit, Gintoki, Canarie, and Shinpachi were on their stomachs, army-crawling away from the wild fight.
"This is so stupid!" Gintoki shouted over the ruckus. "If they wanna kill themselves…they should do it somewhere else! This is the diner I like to get my strawberry sundaes at!"
Canarie groaned and took shelter behind a booth. "I don't get that baldie! He clearly cares for his daughter-"Canarie yelped when a concrete slab flew over her head, nearly missing her. "Yet…he can't bring himself to stay home and be a father. Man's a hunter before he's a dad. I can understand why Kagura would feel lonely!
Gintoki groaned and took shelter next to her. "Canarie, you take Shinpachi and head on home."
"Wait, what?"
"People are gonna get hurt if this goes on. Better to take yourselves and leave before it's you."
Canarie frowned and took a peek out, nearly avoiding a mass of concrete hurled in her direction. "Shit! Ugh…fine! I'll take Shinpachi and leave! We'll see you and Kagura at home!"
Getting back on her hands and knees, Canarie led the way out of the diner with Shinpachi army crawling desperately to keep up.
"Yato blood, huh," Canarie began as she entered the living room. She looked troubled by something as she sat down on the couch.
"What are you talking about, Cana-san," Shinpachi asked, closing the front door behind him.
"I mean the alien race. The Yato clan. Did you know that they were a race of fighters? Born to fight…like they were made for the battlefield."
Shinpachi frowned, not sure where she was going with this. "I…I see."
Canarie grumbled and leaned back until she was looking up at the ceiling. "It's hard to imagine Kagura being like that. To share the same blood as a man like that. Omibozu, I mean. I feel that family means a lot to Kagura… but what can you possibly do when your father is hardy in your life."
Canarie closed her eyes tightly as her mind began to race. She thought of Kashira, her sister. In a way, she had made the same decision that Umibozu had made. To leave his family behind and go out and fight. Kashira did the same when she decided she wanted to fight in the war against the Amanto. And Canarie… had to learn to live with the loneliness after her death.
After over an hour of waiting in silence, the front door slid open, and Gintoki walked in. Canarie rose from her seat but immediately noticed that no one else was with him. Kagura and Umibozu were nowhere to be seen.
"Gin-san… where's Kagura-chan?" Shinpachi asked when he noticed too.
Gintoki didn't say anything and brushed past Canarie and Shinpachi. He took a seat at his desk and propped his feet up.
Canarie swallowed hard and felt a heavy stone suddenly drop into her stomach. "Gintoki…what happened?"
Gintoki didn't say anything for a moment. He took his time, stretching his arms behind his head and leaning back, and what came from his mouth next made Canarie's heart sink.
"I told her to leave with her dad. This planet is too crowded for her."
