With Rotomdex out of commission we can't know exactly who attacked until we see them again, all we know is they were a shadowy pokemon that packed quite a punch.
"So explain to me again how this happened?" Professor Kukui asked, holding up the remains of Rotomdex.
"ITS AN OUTRAGE I TELL YOU! I'VE NEVER SEEN MY BODY IN SUCH POOR CONDITION!" Rotom shouted from the blackboard.
"Rotom calm down, we're lucky we were able to find you at all last night." Ark groaned. Even after defeating the shadow Pokemon the group had spent the better part of the night cleaning up the mansion and finding Rotom.
"You kids did the right thing finding him, but I think it will take a lot of work to repair this." Professor Kukui admitted.
"But you can fix him right?" Ark asked.
"I'll try, but he might need an all new body." Professor Kukui admitted.
"WHAT ABOUT MY DATA, IS IT GOING TO BE OKAY!" Rotom plead.
"Relax Rotom, as long as it happened before midnight you would have synced to the server." Professor Kukui said. "All of your photos and videos are safe."
"OH THANK GOODNESS!" Rotom exclaimed.
"Well, I know Lusamine is still waiting for you kids down at the lab, why don't you head down there, and I'll see what I can pull together up here." Professor Kukui sighed.
Down at the Ultra Guardian Base
"Ultra Guardians, it's good to see you, I'm sorry about yesterday's loss, we were informed of it as soon as Rotom went off line." Lusamine said. "We understand this is a hard time for the team, and please understand these are in no way meant to be a replacement for him."
On that point, a familiar guy walked in, carrying a case, with a Joltik on his shoulder.
"First off, we would like to introduce a new member of our team David, he will be handling the technical aspects of the missions from here to try and alleviate some of the work load." Wicke said.
"Hey I remember you kids, fancy meeting you all here." David said. "You know, I actually was here at this school following an Electivire, you wouldn't happen to know what happened to him, do you?"
"Actually, he's closer than you think." Sophocles said, tapping Electivire's Pokeball.
"Vire?" Electivire said in confusion.
"Hey big guy, good to see you again." David said, as Joltik hopped on top of the large electric type.
"Pleasantries aside, we do have something for you kids, for all of your hard work protecting Alola, these are brand new top of the line models, one for each of you." Lusamine said.
"May I present, the newest and biggest thing in technology, the Rotom Phones!" David said, opening the case to reveal six phones in it.
"Rotom phones?" Lillie asked, picking one up, as it came to life.
"Yes, they are similar to that of Rotomdex, they are living technology with a Rotom inside of them, they act as a Pokedex, a map, a trainer I.D., and of course a cell phone." David explained.
"That's impressive." Kiawe said, picking one up, as it too came to life.
"So now we'd have a way to communicate even if we get seperated." Mallow said excitedly grabbing one.
"I wonder if they're water proof? It could be fun taking it diving for photos." Lana said.
"Water proof up to 100 meters, won't melt under 140 degrees fahrenheit, they have global range to satélites, and they can connect with each other to share information." David said, having done his research.
"Incredible, I'd love to see the specs on one of these." Sophocles said, looking at his.
'Happy to help, here are my specs.' The Rotomphone said, pulling them up.
"A Rotom device that actually listens?" Kiawe asked. "But do they know anything about Mega Evolution or Z Moves?"
'What would you like to know about them? There are many articles, books, and experts that I can connect you with on both subjects." Kiawe's Rotomphone said.
"Wow, they're so helpful." Lillie said. "And they can even fit in our hands."
"Vull." Shiron mewed at the strange device.
'Pokemon detected, would you like to learn more about it?' Lillie's Rotomphone asked.
"And it doesn't even interrupt us to give information out!" Mallow cheered.
"Ark, what's wrong, why haven't you picked yours up." Lana said.
"Guys, are you kidding, Rotomdex is upstairs in pieces and you're just replacing him." Ark argued.
"Ark, Rotomdex was nice, but I mean he was a bit intrusive, and even Professor Kukui said he wasn't sure he could be fixed." Mallow reminded.
"You know, he was only there last night because he feels he's a part of the team." Ark argued. "You guys can keep your phones, but I want our Rotom, not a new one."
The five looked at their phones, knowing what Ark said was right.
Ark walked back upstairs into the classroom, seeing Professor Kukui looking at something.
Ark peeked his head in to see a slideshow of photos, of all of the class, of their Pokemon at every stage, their Z moves, Nebby, the other Ultra Beasts, their families, all of their memories from this year, Rotomdex had been a part of.
"How's it going Professor?" Ark asked, making his presence seem new, and not having been standing there for a few minutes.
"Not great, in all honesty it took me years to build him the first time, I don't think I'll get him working again any time soon." Professor Kukui sighed.
"Is there anyone who could help?" Ark asked. "He's part of our team, and it feels wrong leaving him here."
"So I'm guessing you didn't take the gift." Professor Kukui said with a smirk.
"No, Rotom is a member of the team and if no one else wants him, then he's my Pokedex." Ark said.
"DO YOU REALLY MEAN THAT ARK!?" Rotom shouted, setting off the sprinklers.
"Of course, who else would go in my shield?" Ark joked.
"You're sure about this?" Professor Kukui asked.
"I've never been more sure of something in my life. Rotom is a part of the team, my team, and I'll wait a bit if need be for him to come back." Ark said.
"Mother said, that they can rebuild him at the foundation." Lillie said walking in with the others.
"We may not fully agree with why you want to keep him." Kiawe said.
"But he's a part of our team through and through." Mallow said.
"So we'll let the new kids help out until he's up and running again." Lana said.
"GUYS!" Rotom exclaimed setting off the sprinklers again.
"Until then, an Ultra Guardian send off." Ark said, taking position.
"Right." The others said, standing at attention.
"Rotom you served well, and until you're feeling better we will be waiting for you return, until then you are dismissed." Ark said with a smile.
"ULT ROGER!" Rotom cheered.
"Ult Roger!" The Ultra Guardian's said with a salute, as Professor Kukui redownloaded Rotom onto a backup drive.
The group stood at attention giving the salute to their team mate as Professor Kukui took Rotom and his shell downstairs to be sent back to the Aether Foundation.
Meanwhile, back in Kanto
"Now preparing for take off, flight 818 from Kanto to Alola, this will be a direct flight, please make sure all your carry on bags are properly stowed away and your seat is in an upright position for take off." A flight attendant said, before approaching a seat. "Hi there, you must be Cassandra, my names Naomi, I'm here to make sure you stay safe, if you need anything feel free to ask."
"Thank you, and you can call me Cass." Cass said, settling into her seat for the long flight. "Get ready Alola, you're about to get a second Ketchum."
