I woke up to beams of soft sunlight shining through the gaps in the curtains. The golden rays shining on Teds sleeping face as I blinked away the sleep - my hand reaching up to caress his cheek. The stubble prickly against my fingers.
"Good morning sleepy head." I whispered, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I watched him stir, his arm extending as he grabbed my hip - pulling me closer so I was lying partially on top of him. My leg in-between his - my chest on top of his chest.
"I haven't slept that good in a long time." He breathed, his fingers trailing up and down my bare back. Goosebumps appearing everywhere he touched.
"Me either." I replied, lifting my head to see him gazing at me with that look I adore. "What are you looking at?" I teased and he grinned widely.
"You are so breathtaking in the morning." He lifted his other hand to brush my wild ginger hair off my face and behind my ear.
I immediately felt the warmth burn my cheeks as I let out a stupid little giggle. My eyes widening in embarrassment as I cut myself off. I cannot believe I just did that. What am I? Twelve?
"What was that?"
"You heard absolutely nothing." I sat up and shuffled to the edge of the bed, the sheets falling off of me as I brushed my hands through my hair. Acting as if that never happened. Ugh god, I'm not going to live that down.
"Ma'am..."
I smirked and ignored him before I heard him slide up behind me, his arms pulling back into him. "That was the cutest thing I've ever heard." He whispered into my ear, his breath hot on my neck before he kissed it. "You sounded like a little bunny, making the cute little squeaks when they eat."
A bunny? I scoffed, I don't think I'll ever get used to the way he describes things. "Well, I hope you have a good memory because it will never come out again."
He laughed, his body shaking mine as I chuckled with him.
"You are so dramatic." He dropped his arms as I stood up, his eyes drifting over my naked form as I grabbed the bathrobe off the floor.
"Me? Dramatic? Never." I spun while putting the dressing gown on, walking to the bathroom to switch on the shower. My hand testing the water before I called out to him.
"Care to join me?"
"Already on my way Ma'am." I heard him shout before he walked through the doorway, in all his naked glory. My eyes slowly panned down his body, my teeth biting into my lip before he moved toward me, his hand tilting up my head so I'd be looking at him.
"Eyes up here, sunshine." His tone was playful and I grinned up at him, happy to be sharing these moments with him. "Get in the damn shower." He turned me around and tapped my butt cheeks as I opened the glass door to step under the hot spray of the water, Ted following right behind me.
The journey back was quiet, my aunt didn't say much in the car and Keeley hitched a ride so that meant she didn't stop talking for the entirety of the trip. I was dropped off at my flat, the sun barely peaking up beyond the horizon asthe city was thrust into twilight. Teds touch still lingering across my skin as if I was caressed by silk. I closed my flat door behind me, my fingers pressing softly against my neck as flashes of last night took over my mind. His lips grazing the skin of my neck.
I sighed happily, dumping my stuff on the floor before falling backward onto the bed in the shape of a starfish. The feeling of warmth building inside of me as the furnace in my heart that felt so cold and alone for so so long, finally started to burn with passion again. I kicked off my shoes, rolling onto my stomach while pulling my phone from my pocket, bringing up Teds messages.
'I had a lot of fun last night. Breakfast tomorrow?'
My fingers tapped ferociously in excitement before I hit send, watching the text go from delivered to read in a matter of moments. I waited while I watched the bubble with the three dots appear and disappear over and over again before it stopped altogether.
He's probably just tired right? It was a crazy night after all. I slid my phone onto it's charging plate and got up, changing into a pair of shorts and a baggy sweatshirt - climbing under the duvet before turning on the TV, putting on some crappy reality show as I relaxed deeper into the mattress.
I wonder what's going to happen at work now? Are we going to keep this quiet? I mean I don't want to risk anything going public if my psycho ex is on the creepy stalking warpath. I yawned, pulling the duvet up to my chest as I snuggled into it. More flashes of last nights interaction floating around my mind as I drifted to sleep.
I woke up and checked my phone, seeing it still stuck on 'read'. If I wasn't late again I would've probably thought more into it, you know what I mean right? When you start to pull on that thread of what ifs and it just spirals out of control? Of course you do, we've all been there.
I rushed to the car, wearing olive green yoga leggings with a dark grey Richmond AFC hoodie. My high top converse topping off my 'I'm clearly late and don't give a fuck what I look like outfit.'
After a short drive to work I walked in, seeing the boys all heading to the training pitch as I dropped my things off in my office first before heading up to see my Aunt.
"Hey B..." I was looking at my phone before I bumped into a familiar feeling chest, my eyes lifting to see Coach Lasso staring down at me. I immediately grinned like a crazy person and when I wasn't greeted with the same response, that seed of doubt started to grow in the very pit of my stomach. My smile fading.
"Good morning Ma'am."
Why is he acting weird?
"Uhm, hi Ted? Is everything..." I was cut off before he took off and left me in the doorway mid sentence. Maybe he was just in a rush? It is time for training and there's another game in a few days.
"You're late." My aunt yelled at me and I looked at her and then back at the stairs Ted just escaped down.
"Yeah... Slept through my alarm I guess." I walked further into her office and slumped on the couch, my mind starting to come up with ridiculous reasons as to why he was just so cold with me.
"I know that look." Rebecca said as she sat beside me, handing me a coffee cup with what I presumed was my go to order. "What's wrong?"
I debated telling her, I mean she is family but she's also his boss. "Was Ted in a funny mood this morning?" I asked and she shook her head, biscuit crumbs still on the corners of her lip.
"He was his usual chipper self, why?"
I shook my head, taking a sip of my coffee. "Just curious." I shrugged and looked out the window as he walked onto the pitch. Maybe I was overthinking it all? The last few days were incredible, it was so passionate, so intimate. Whatever it was that turned him off so quick, I was going to find out. It's not like I had time to do anything to piss him off, I've been asleep for the past twelve hours.
"You coming?" My aunt snapped me out of my head and I nodded, gripping my coffee a little tighter as I stood and walked out the door. Ted and I will have a chance to talk later, unless he's going to avoid me then too.
