"Did you just... talk?" Tails asked confusedly, unsure if he was just imagining it.
"I assure you that this is real, Miles" Metal Sonic said in a human voice. "I have connected to this planet's internet and have discovered websites that provide artificial voices. I specifically chose this voice to sound like it would come from me."
Tails was slightly confused but thought he understood well enough. "Okay. Why are you being friendly with me? Are you trying to trick me?"
"I understand your hesitation and get that this is a bit... inconsistent given my past encounters with you. I assure you that I no longer agree with the Doctor's actions and am about to cut off all connections to him."
"Didn't he add some sort of system to stop that from happening?" the kitsune asked, beginning to believe that his former enemy was truly wishing to help.
"I am unsure. I doubt that he'd think that far but there's always a chance he programmed something. However, it is a risk I'm willing to take." just 1 hour ago, Metal would've done anything to go against the fox or any of his friends but was now throwing his life away to do the exact opposite.
He began to search for the files linking him with his creator and quickly found them. When he tried deleting them, a reboot was forced to occur in order for the links to be removed completely.
"I will need to quickly reboot my systems. This will only take a couple of minutes," Metal warned before he shut down, giving no time to make sure Tails heard him.
"Doctor, it appears that Metal Sonic is removing himself from our database" Bocoe warned Robotnik.
"WHAT? HE THINKS HE CAN BETRAY THE GREAT EGGMAN EMPIRE?! WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON HIM, I WILL TURN HIM INTO SCRAP!" Eggman exclaimed, enraged by this discovery. He took a second to cool down, remembering something he had programmed into many of his robots to ensure that this wouldn't be as big of a problem as it could be normally. "In fact, I won't even need to capture him. He's bound to return to me soon enough."
"Why is that?" Decoe asked, unsure of what his boss could be referring to.
"In less than 24 hours, my code will make sure that bag of bolts can't even think straight! Upon deletion of the code linking me to it, any robot I make would receive an update which slowly takes from its sanity until it has gone insane. I didn't expect Metal to be the first to activate it but I also didn't expect to end up here somehow. Now, all we can do is wait for him to crawl back to us."
Metal Sonic turned back on exactly where he was before. He looked to see that Tails had almost finished eating his meal.
"Did it work?" Tails asked after he'd swallowed the food he had in his mouth.
"Yes. So far, it appears that I was correct in thinking that the Doctor would not have thought of this happening," he said confidently. "Now, we should probably find a way to get the Chaos Emeralds. If Chaos Control sent us here, the Emeralds were probably sent to this planet too."
"How can we? We have no way to locate them and they could be anywhere on this planet," the fox asked, feeling homesick already.
"I'm looking at the news of this planet," the machine stated, scrolling through all of the most popular news at that moment. "It appears that they have news for every time that somebody popular's heart beats, we'll be able to find out if a human discovers the emeral-"
"What's wrong?"
Metal stared at the screen in shock.
There's no way this is real. And yet it is. These humans are as heartless as Robotnik.
"Cream and Sonic are... on the news..." the mechanical mammal said in shock.
"That's great! If we can go and find them, we'd easily be able to stop Eggman when he decides to try and take over the planet, right?" After realising that he was getting no response, Tails asked again. "Right?"
Earlier that night, Sonic had woken up in a pitch black place. A very different place than the white void that had been consuming him before. He looked around to see if anything was there. Suddenly, a light started to approach him. As it got closer, he realised that it was a vehicle. He managed to dodge it and realised that he was in a city. There were several other cars and trucks around him but they all stopped around him. The city he was in clearly wasn't Studiopolis or Metropolis or anywhere else he could remember. All he knew about the place was that it wasn't home. He quickly also noticed that he was not alone. There were humans, like his old pal Egghead. Was this part of Eggman's plan or was it a coincidence? Sonic couldn't tell because the every plan is usually the same but the machine that he'd just destroyed was different than anything else he'd seen before.
At that point, he realised that all of the humans were looking right at him.
"What are they all staring at?"
"What the hell is going on?" a man in one of the trucks asked.
A group of humans came through the traffic in matching blue outfits, stopping a couple of feet away from Sonic.
"This thing looks like a hedgehog.." one officer said.
"Where did you get that from? It hardly looks like one. Besides, it's way too big to be a hedgehog," another replied.
"Well, whatever it is, we should probably get it out of here," one said, going down on one knee in front of the hedgehog. "You wanna come back with us to the station?"
Upon being left unanswered, the one of the policemen said something that Sonic didn't catch. Right after it was said, one of them moved behind him. Sonic knew they were planning something but couldn't tell what. Before he could figure it out:
"NOW!"
The officer leaped at Sonic and had caught him.
For about two seconds, that is. Sonic quickly escaped, running to the side.
"Why you little-"
"Hang on, I've got an idea." one of the older looking men said, cutting the other off. "Surround it."
They did as told and formed a circle around the hedgehog.
"On the count of three. One," Sonic looked around at them, trying to tell why they expected it to work. "Two," he thought of how many steps he could get in if he wasn't waiting for these slowpokes. "THREE!"
Once again, Sonic was captured.
At least it seemed like it.
"I've got him"
"So have I"
"When I say go, pull him out."
"Now!"
While all of this was happening, Sonic was stood on the sidewalk nearby, tapping his foot and looking at an imaginary watch.
What the officers all thought was the hedgehog was actually just themselves. When they pulled out, they all fell over, resulting in them getting more bruises than unidentified creatures.
Sonic was getting tired of waiting around and decided to announce his departure with a simple "I'm outta here!" while charging a move he called the super peel-out. He then released it and ran away at speeds faster than thought to be possible from a living being.
The oldest officer made an order through a radio. "Attention all units! A blue hedgehog is headed north on Central Street! It's running at high speeds, likely over 100 miles per hour! Set up a roadblock to stop it before it can do any harm to Station Square!"
"A blue hedgehog, huh?" An officer said, driving a car after listening to the radio.
"We'd make some money if we could catch that! It's probably just some remodeled car or something though," another said, sat next to him.
"Maybe it has an ornament on the hood that looks like a hedgehog."
They sat corrected when a blue hedgehog was on their hood. It definitely wasn't a car or ornament though. It was just as the name suggested.
I need to figure out how I got here. And where are the others?
Sonic was worried for the safety of his friends. Especially Cream the Rabbit. She'd just been kidnapped by Eggman, separated from her mother. Now, she was even further from home.
Well, it's best to find out now instead of later!
Sonic jumped off of the car and ran straight ahead, hoping that if he kept going, he might find somebody.
"It's approaching the roadblock," one of them said, able to regain his voice after the shock of seeing the hedgehog.
"Perfect. We've made sure it can't get under, around or through us," someone at the who was there said.
They weren't wrong.
But that doesn't mean it worked.
He jumped right over them. When he reached the ground, he kept running like nothing happened.
"Did it work?" an officer on the other side asked.
"Well, he didn't get under, around or through us," he said, trying to avoid the question.
As he kept running, Sonic was thinking of how he got to this strange place. He recounted the events before he'd woken up on the road.
I was running through Egghead's base, busting up badniks easily. Then, I found where Cream and Cheese were being kept. Eggman showed me that machine and I tricked his machine into shooting at it. Then, there was that white void.
Sonic managed to picture the scene and realised something. Something had walked into the room while the void was consuming everything. Something blue and similar to him.
His train of thought was cut off when he noticed something up ahead. There was a cliff. He stopped in his tracks and prepared a spin dash. He span ahead and jumped right before he would've fell. He took it as a chance to look around at the area.
The sky is the same as back home. But everything else is so different. Why did chaos control bring me here?
Sonic was looking down before he realised where he was going to land. Right in a large pool. He wanted to try moving away from it but there was only land in the area.
Seems like it's the end of me. Why did it have to be water?
Sonic accepted defeat as he plummeted into the pool.
And then Sonic died, the end!
I'm kidding, I just thought this chapter was getting a bit too long given that it's at least double the length of the last. Also I like leaving every chapter on a cliffhanger apparently.
I'll probably upload the next chapter next week! (it's late Sunday night as I'm writing this)
