EPILOGUE

"Are you awake?"

Arturia forced her eyelids open. They felt leaden, and her eyeballs were so dry that they felt like somebody had poured sand in them. Her vision was blurry. At first, all she could focus on was a white-robed man standing by her side. "Where.." She croaked.

"Don't talk - the nurse will get you some water," Another figure appeared as if by magic on her other side holding up a cup with straw in it, so that she could drink without moving. "I am Dr. Romani Archaman, but you can call me Dr. Roman. You are in Avalon base"

"Avalon?" Arturia's heart started to pound and the room swam as she struggled to sit up. If she was in Avalon, that meant she had died, and Shirou's magic stasis had failed.

"Lie back, you shouldn't stand up yet!" Dr. Roman called out, putting a hand out to stop Arturia, but she just batted it aside and staggered up to her feet.

The room didn't look like how she expected Avalon to be - there were no trees or fay women. Instead it was a sterile white room. Her eyes finally focused on the technological devices beeping at her side, and she realized that the people - Dr. Roman, as well as the two nurses hovering in the background - were dressed in clothes similar to what was worn during the Grail Wars.

"Where is this?"

"I know this must seem very strange to you. We recovered you from a stasis crystal. We don't know how you ended up in there - we were hoping that you could tell us - but we think that you were asleep in there for 1500 years. We were lead to you by LAPLACE. It indicated that our chances of protecting the future depended on you." Dr Roman knew that he would have his work cut out for him - he wasn't certain how long it would take somebody from the 6th century to learn enough about the modern day in order to be functional.

"Where is the other cocoon?"

The man paused, "I did not know that there were others - the entire cave was filled with crystalline structures. We only found you because LAPLACE directed us."

Arturia stood up straight before turning her full attention on Dr. Roman, "Go get the other one."

'Who is she?' The director of the medical department of Chaldea withered under the glare, "We are have way around the world from Wales, where we found you, and LAPLACE indicated that..."

"I do not care what your demon indicated. And with an aircraft, 'halfway around the world' is a matter of a few hours travel." Arturia took a menacing step towards the doctor. "If you want my aid, you will go back and recover Shirou."

"Yes, sir!" Her charisma was such that Dr. Roman didn't pause to question how an iron-age warrior knew of air travel. He only hesitated as he reached the door, turning to ask, "Who are you, incidentally?"

"You may call me Arturia, but history records me as Arthur, king of the Britons."

"Shirou!" There was a dull pounding. Or maybe it was just his head. Shirou forced his eyes open. Everything looked blurry. 'Where am I?' He thought muzzily.

"Shirou! Are you ok?" A woman's voice called out to him.

Shirou looked up - there was something in front of his face. A glass? Or a crystal of some sort? He couldn't think of what it was. All of him hurt. "Wha?" He forced out. The glass - a mask - clouded up from his breath.

"He's awake. You can take the respirator off." Now there was a mans voice.

"You did it!" Shirou's eye focused on Arturia as she lunged towards him, stopping herself at the last minute to envelope him in a gentle hug. "We're back in the future!"

"We made it?" He returned the hug as best he could.

"Yes. But you need to regain your strength quickly - we have to save the world again."
