Bella stood in the kitchen looking at the beautiful cabinets. The marble countertops and floor. She thought about her apartment in New York. Her favorite part was the marble. It had been Gage's favorite too. Hers had been black with a galaxy mix of sparkle. Gage thought it looked like outer space. It was a luxury kitchen.

"Mommy, can we go to space one day?"

Bella was back home briefly before her next shift at the hospital. "Hmm. Maybe. There's not much a surgeon can do in space."

"You can operate on aliens." Gage smiled at his mom. His two front teeth missing. He was five. Always so smart and ahead of his time.

Bella smiled at him.

She heard Daryl's steel toed boots against the floor as he walked up behind her. He set a hand on her shoulder and she reached a hand up and covered his hand with hers.

"Disappearing again?"

Bella nodded. "Yeah. Just for a moment."

"Gage?"

Bella nodded again. "Yeah." She said and moved away from Daryl now. She turned and looked at him. "I want to explore. See where everything is. Did you do your interview yet?"

"Yeah. She's bossy." Daryl muttered.

Bella smiled. "She was a politician. She has to be bossy." She paused. "Um. Do you want to go with me, l?"

Daryl smiled a little. "You don't want alone time?"

"I might have ulterior motives." Bella said. "Come on." She said and moved from the kitchen and went outside, Daryl following her.

Alexandria was beautiful. The houses were all luxury homes and there were a couple houses that weren't finished being built but she knew that Sam would help get that finished. He loved building things.

Bella admitted she did feel better after cleaning up and wearing clean clothes. It was also nice to walk down a street that didn't have the dead lurking around. She went towards the clinic, Daryl following her across the street to the house there was used as the clinic.

A man looked up when Bella walked in. He smiled at Bella, friendly. "Hi, I'm Doctor Pete Anderson." He introduced. He had sandy hair and navy eyes. He was taller than Daryl and Bella. He had very square shoulders and he had a little scruff from not shaving in a couple days.

"Bella and this is Daryl."

"Oh, you're the Master Sergeant."

"Yes. I'm also a doctor. Surgeon." Bella said with a nod.

Pete smiled. "Well, I'm just a family doctor. Nothing fancy. What can I do for you?"

Bella pulled her shirt off to show her stitches. It was reddened and needed to be redone. "I got shot. I was hoping I could get some medicine for this and resutured."

Pete bent and looked at it. "Yes, this is infected. Which of course you know. Come sit. I'll get what you need and fix it up."

"Thanks." Bella said, her and Daryl walked inside the room that was likely the dining room before but was turned into a doctor's office room. It had an exam table so she sat on that while Daryl leaned against the wall, crossing his arms.

Pete came into the room carrying supplies. He glanced at Daryl. "You her bodyguard?"

"Bella doesn't need a bodyguard." Daryl said his eyes not leaving Bella's. Bella seemed amused. She pulled her shirt off so Pete could work.

It was silent for a while. Pete cut the stitches and irrigated the gunshot. He applied some antibiotics to the wound after he sutured. His stitches weren't neat like Bella's or Carlisle's but both Bella and Carlisle were surgeons previously. Pete bandaged it for her and then gave her some antibiotics to take.

"I trust you know how to take them?"

Bella took the pills and got up off the table and pulled her shirt back on. "Thanks Dr. Anderson."

"Call me Pete." He said with a smile. "I'm in the clinic all day but if you need anything, I live right next door to you."

Bella didn't know that. But she nodded. "Thanks Pete. We'll see you around." She said and her and Daryl left.

They walked down the sidewalk a bit before she paused to take two of the antibiotics dry.

"He was weird." Daryl mentioned.

"Hmm. Yeah. He was just okay as a doctor. He said family medicine. That's probably true. They don't make the best surgeons. His stitches are mediocre but it'll do the job." Bella said and then slid the bottle of pills in her pocket. "He lives right next door to us. He's married. I saw his band."

Daryl snorted. "He asked if I was your bodyguard."

"He's one of those."

"Idiots?"

Bella smiled. "Yeah, you can say that. I wanted to see what equipment they had because I need to x-ray your brothers lungs."

"He's not going to like Pete. I didn't like the guy, Merle isn't either. He doesn't like doctors."

"Your brother likes me." Bella pointed out.

Daryl snorted a little. "That's because you're a woman. And you two…"he drifted off not wanting to even think about his brother and Bella together.

"Its not because of that." Bella understood what Daryl was going to say. She was quiet again as she started walking.

Daryl wanted to hit himself. He didn't want to upset her. It wasn't his business anyways. Even if it did bother him a little.

Bella stopped and sighed. She looked at Daryl. "I-"

"Its okay. I don't need to know. It doesn't matter. Are we dating?" Daryl asked and she shook her head. "Then not my business. Even if we were Bella, who you have sex with is your business." He said it his tone slightly irritated but he didn't mean to be irritated.

Bella just nodded and then looked across the street at the open garage. It was the food pantry. She walked across with Daryl and was greeted. The woman was about mid thirties black hair clipped back with a claw clip and she wore glasses that hid her brown eyes. She was a little on the heavier side. She was holding a clipboard when she greeted Daryl and Bella.

"Hi, I'm Olivia." She introduced with a smile.

Bella smiled back. "Bella, this is Daryl."

"Nice meet you. Just exploring?"

"Yeah. Seeing where everything was."

"That's great! I'll have some boxes of food ready for you guys a little later. We're low on some things but there's a planned supply run tomorrow."

Bella nodded. "That sounds good. Is there a place you store meats?"

"Well we haven't killed any of the chickens in a few weeks. We're trying to build it back up."

"Oh. Daryl and me. We're hunters. We can catch wild game and process it. Just wanted to contribute to the whole town. Deanna said there was 102 of you guys." Bella explained.

Olivia was a little shocked. "Oh well. We don't have any hunters. I don't think I've ever seen anything other than your normal grocery store meats." She said with a little laugh.

"Deer are likely in the area. Deer and cow. Pretty close." Daryl inputted.

Bella nodded. "Poultry like chickens should be saved for egg laying. Eggs are excellent sources of protein. There's also a stream not far off from here. Fish. Plenty to sustain. Just point us in the direction of meat food storage and we'll pack it."

Olivia found Bella and Daryl really nice. She knew that Pete had been wary. Said that outsiders living that long in the wild were not to be trusted. "That's so kind."

"We want to do our part." Bella said with a nod. "Um. I'll be back later then for the boxes. Let me know if we can help." She said and then smiled and waved at Olivia. Her and Daryl left and walked back towards the house.

Silence followed them as they both stayed in their thoughts.

"I don't think they'll know the different between a opossum or raccoon meat." Daryl suddenly said and it had Bella laughing. She looked back at him and her radiating beauty hit him. She had a beautiful laugh and she was so beatiful. Especially when she laughed or smiled. It was stunning.

Bella raised a brow when Daryl stopped walking. "Are you broken Dixon. What's wrong?"

"You're beautiful." Daryl murmured.

Bella felt the heat rise to her face so she turned away from him to hide it but he reached out to her and turned her to look at him. His hand moved up to her face, brushing her hair back from her face. "Daryl…"

"Don't shy away. I don't mean to embarrass you."

"I've never been complimented before. So…"

There was a commotion at the front gate and it snapped Daryl's attention away from each other and they both sprinted towards the gate. Rick was running across too with Michonne and Tyrese.

Bella got there first, helping roll the gate back to see Sam carrying someone, a small boy about 6 or 7. "Oh god. Who's boy is this?" She asked as she shut and locked the gate down behind Sam.

Others were coming now, a couple guys Bella didn't know yet and a woman.

Sam shook his head. "I don't know. I found him." He said as he carried him towards the clinic. Bella and Daryl rushed after him.

Pete was startled but he put away the flask. Bella caught the motion but she didn't say anything. "What's going on? Who is that?"

Sam set him on the exam table. "He as shot. Entrance, no exit."

"Stats?" Bella asked.

"Weak pulse. Equal breath sounds." Sam said and Bella moved faster than Pete. She pulled the boys shirt off by ripping it down the front. The gun shot went in at the side. Pete started getting to close for Bella's comfort. "Un-ass him right now Corporal." She ordered.

Sam put a hand on Pete's arm. "Pete. She's a surgeon and combat trained for gunshots. Let her. Go get her stuff for a bedside surgery and a pulse ox." He said calmly to Pete and Pete just nodded and complied

Bella clicked her tongue three times.

Sam moved and grabbed saline fro. The shelf and handed it to Bella. Daryl watched as Bella worked. Her hands were fast, stopping the bleeding.

"Found it. 22 caliber. I need-" Bella broke off when Pete returned with all kinds of supplies. "Those. Forceps. "

Sam grabbed them and handed them off to Bella and she went back to the kid. The boy started groaning.

"Dixon. Hold his shoulders." Bella barked out and Daryl moved, firmly holding the boys shoulders down.

The boy started waking up, screaming. His dark hair fell to the side as he tried to sit up. The letter 'W' was branded into the boy's forehead. It was raw. Like it was fresh.

"Clamp." Bella said and Sam handed it to her. She worked fast, clamping off the bleeding so she could remove her finger and she clicked twice with her tongue and Sam moved, grabbing. Sutures and handing it to her. She threaded it fluidly and she started sewing up the artery that has damage. She finished and then pulled the bullet out then and handed it off to Sam. She then closed the boy up who had passed out again from the pain.

Bella flushed the wound again with saline and then cleaned the area before applying some iodine to keep it clear. She packed it and bandaged it and then leaned back to check pulse and oxygen.

The room was quiet briefly before Pete said something. "This is my clinic and my-"

Bella looked at Pete cutting him off. "Are you a surgeon? No. Shut up." She said and moved to wash her hands before she looked back at Pete. "He's got a burn on his forehead. He was branded. Put so e salve on it. I'm going to talk to Deanna." She said and left, Daryl with her.

Pete looked angry but Sam put a hand up to stop Pete from saying anything. "Don't dude." He said and left Pete to do what. Bella told him to do.
