Konohagakure no sato one month after the chunin exams

Yugao Uzuki had for all her life wanted to be a swordmistress; she had never wavered from that course.

she pushed and pushed herself as hard as she could, almost killing herself more times than she could count.

This wild abandon in chasing her dreams had scared her mother, father, her genin team, and her sensei, but no matter how much they tried, she refused to listen.

but then came Hayate or as she originally knew him as Kawauso, they had originally met in anbu after being paired together for a mission to assassinate a minor Lord in Hi No Kuni who was planning an uprising against the daimyo.

Following the mission, they slowly became inseparable training at first, then spending time together, then dinner dates, etc.

but now, standing in a graveyard looking at his tombstone, none of that mattered; she just felt pain.

she had thrown herself into missions, but tsunade had put a to stop that, saying she didn't need suicidal anbu, so here she was mourning.

she hated that when she was on missions, she could push everything down and work, but here in the village she had to mourn, she spent pretty much every day at the graveyard just staring at hayate's grave some of her friends had tried to find her, but she dodged them she just wanted to be miserable and alone.

but today, something interesting happened.

She had entered the graveyard to see a genin in an orange jumpsuit standing over Hayate's grave.

Yugao recognized him who wouldn't, but she wondered why he was here or, more importantly, why was he standing over her lover's grave.

Naruto didn't know why he was here; he just felt compelled to come here and see the Graves of those who fell in the invasion.

he didn't initially know why this grave stopped him till he thought about the second stage of the chunin exams.

This was the proctor of the preliminary matches.

he had briefly wondered where he was during the final exam, but you know, invasion and all that, but now he knew.

It saddened him that someone else was lost to the invasion, but with the sadness came new determination, new resolve, and a new promise. ——————————————————————

Yugao was just about to walk up to Naruto when he started to speak."Hayate-San, I promise to you that I will carry on your legacy and become a hokage. You will be proud of this, I swear, believe it!".

She froze hearing these words Naruto Uzumaki had made a promise to her hayate-kun everyone knew that Naruto always made his promises come true she knew that first hand.

Not just that he swore to carry on hayates' legacy, she paused what did that mean, how would he accomplish this then she realized something only she knew about hayate's legacy.

Both of his parents had died a few year prior, and while they had friends, they didn't know him like she did.

She knew his kenjutsu style, his jutsu, everything that would be his legacy So she had 2 choices: leave and come back later and avoid Naruto.

Or realize that eventually Naruto will either hunt her down or tsunade will tell him where she is so with that thought in mind she looked at hayate's grave and made the smartest decision someone can make when you know Naruto.

"OH yeah, is that right Naruto you're gonna carry on hayate's legacy, huh?" Yugao said, taking great pleasure in the look of surprise on Naruto's face

"Hai Kunoichi-San, I will," Naruto said, trying to remain composed after being nearly scared half to death by the purple haired Shinobi

"Wow, I'm so hurt Naruto you don't even recognize me after all the times I brought you studying scrolls," she said. Yugao knew that would make Naruto recognize her.

"NEKO-CHAN" Naruto screamed loud enough for half the village to hear.

"Quiet Naruto people aren't supposed to know that I'm anbu just call me Yugao." Yugao hissed she did not need that headache.

"Gomen Ne--Yugao-chan," he said sheepishly.

"It's fine. Just don't do it again. Now you sure you want to carry on Hayate's legacy, Naruto?" she asked, wanting him to be sure.

"You better believe it, Yugao-chan. I'm going to make Hayate-San proud, " Naruto said with that will of fire burning in his eyes

Yugao saw the look in his eyes and could feel the will of fire reignited in herself she knew she had to train him and make sure he fulfilled his promise

"Well then, Naruto, let's go. we got a lot of training to do if you want to fulfill that promise," she said, knowing he was going to hate the next few weeks.

So the two shinobi left the graveyard heading towards one of the many training fields that konoha had.

but Naruto had one question that just needed to be answered."Yugao-chan, what exactly are we going to be learning?" Naruto thought that from the look on Yugao's face, he may regret asking.

Yugao looked down at the blonde shinobi and gave him a smile that promised pain and suffering. "Say Naruto, have you ever heard of kenjutsu?"
