14. An Uneasy Alliance

Summary: Sephiroth meets a newly-resurrected King and forms an alliance. Also know as, how did Sephiroth end up allying with Zangurak to begin with?

Sephiroth was bored. So dreadfully bored.

So things were at peace. So things were fine. Maybe it'd be interesting to challenge Zael, Asthar, and Dagran, the newest Smashers, to a battle, but things were too idle.

That was when he noticed someone new – larger, like Bowser, but not with a shell on his back. He had on dark clothing, but the shock of wild red hair caught his attention. Wasn't that someone he'd overheard Zael and the others speak about?

"Zangurak, is it?"

"I am a King." Zangurak looked Sephiroth in the eyes. "What are you, human?"

"Not sure if I'm exactly a human in your definition, but, "Sephiroth smiled, "Allow me to inform you where you are."

It didn't take long to explain to Zangurak what had happened, what was currently going on, but Zangurak was determined to make it back home.

Sephiroth didn't think it was possible, but somehow – somehow – the man was powerful enough to create his own portal back to his own world.

"You know, one of your right-hand men is here. Zepha's his name, if I recall correctly. He's acclimated himself with the other Smashers, but…" Sephiroth raised a brow. "You don't want to take him back with you?"

"If he's so peaceful among those other Smashers, he's more or less allied with the human ones as well." Zangurak spoke, looking Sephiroth in the eye. "He's not worth being back on my side for what I have planned."

"well, I'm not sure how far you'll get on your own, so…How about we make an alliance? I want to cause some despair around here, and you – you have a world you want to conquer, right?" Sephiroth smiled. "We could make this work. I help you make sure the Smashers don't get in the way of you conquering Lazulis, since I know they'll figure out at some point that you were accidentally revived, and in return ,you help me take control of the entire Smash Dimension and take advantage of taking over other dimensions."

"So there are other worlds? I thought so." Zangurak seemed to think it over, before speaking again. "And what would ensure that we do not come to blows with each other's plans, if we're both traveling through other worlds?"

"I won't touch any places you conquer, if you don't touch mine. And trust me, you won't want to touch mine."

Zangurak's eyes darkened at that statement, but he spoke. "Very well. Since you have such plans to keep the Smashers at bay, I'll give you something that could be of…use."

"Hm?"

He didn't expect a sword to appear in Zangurak's hands, glowing red. There had to be some sort of power behind it, Sephiroth was sure – but was it worth taking a gift from someone he just allied with?

Then again, perhaps this item could be use to his plans – and who was he to turn down a free gift like that?

"Most appreciated." Sephiroth managed.

"Do not betray me." Zangurak spoke, after handing the sword over to him. "It'd be most unfortunate for you if you did."

As Zangurak vanished into the portal, and it disappeared from sight, Sephiroth smiled.

All he had to do now was wait – wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.
