A/N: This is set after episode 9, as my fantasy of what happens between Mako and Asami. It was kind of inspired by Gotta go my own way, by Vanessa Hudgens.
Disclaimer: I don't own LoK or aforementioned song.
Enjoy!
I sat on my bed on Air Temple Island, twisting some of my long, raven colored hair between my fingers. I was confused about what to do about Mako. He obviously had strong feelings for Korra, and our relationship had been growing steadily more distant. I still had genuine feelings for him, but I don't thinkthey were more than friendship. And thanks to Ikki, I knew that Korra reprocated Mako's feelings. From there, I figured out that both of them were denying themselves to make me happy. I was really touched by the gesture, and I wanted to do something.
I got up off my bed, and steeling myself opened the door. Breakups were always akward, even if it was mutual. I was pleased with myself, though, that I managed to find the infirmary in this maze of a building. I knew that would be where Mako was, since he hadn't left Korra's side from the time we found her two days ago.
Lo and behold, Mako was sitting in a chair next to Korra's bed while she slept. The poor girl was exaustsed after being held prisoner for several days. I walked in and tapped Mako's shoulder. He looked up at me with surprise on his face, like he wasn't expecting anyone to come in.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked. "Sure, Asami," He said, getting up to follow me as I walked out into the hallway.
"Mako," I began. "I know you have feelings for Korra, and a little birdie told me she feels the same way. So, I want you to act on those feelings. I really appreciate what you guys are doing to make me feel better, but it's not helping when I feel guilty for keeping you two apart."
He looked stunned by my confession. "But Asami-" he started, but I didn't give him a chance. "No buts. You're single now, and the girl of your dreams awaits," I said, gesturing to the infirmary. I held my hand out to shake. "Friends?" I asked. He shook my hand, and then pulled me into a hug. "Thank you so much, Asami. You're a strong, kind, beautiful person, and you are going to make someone very happ someday." Then he pulled away and put a hand to the side of his mouth like he was telling me a secret. "And I have a feeling that someone is going to be my brother," he whispered, and then winked at be before sauntering back into the infirmary.
I felt much better, so I decided to go for a walk outside. As I was strolling through the trees, I bumped straight into Bolin.
"Hey, Asami!" he said, as cheery as ever. "What's new? You look happy." "Okay, this might sound weird, but I'm happy because Mako and I just broke up." Bolin then did something I did not expect: He did a fist pump and yelled: "Yes!" Then he composed himself and asked why. i explained, and his face lit up. "Miss Asami Sato, you are the most wonderful person in the world!" he declared. I giggled. I felt happier than I had in a long time. "Thank you, Mr. Bolin," I said, doing a mock curtsy. Then Bolin bowed and asked, "Miss Asami, would you do me the honor of accompanying me to lunch?" he asked dramatically.
"Why yes, sir." I said looping my arm though his and heading toward the ferry dock. Today was turning out to be a very good day.
