A Matter Of Trust-Ch 29
Derek and the rest of the BAU sat and listened as Erin and Chad filled them in on everything that happened from Penelope being asked by the director to help their team, right down to what the case was about that had kept her away for three months. As the talk continued Derek couldn't take his eyes off of Penelope, she had changed so much since she'd been gone, if possible she had gotten even more beautiful, he grinned as he noticed her hand rubbing her stomach
When Strauss was finished talking Reid said, "okay now that we know the specifics of the case how about you tell us who these people are" as he pointed to everybody, Reid said, "well we know Mick but we have no idea who the others are". Penelope said, "well boy wonder this is Nick Jones, Ron Donaldson, Tim Waverly and Rick Davies and you know Mick and now Chad and these are my friends and team mates".
Derek's eyes snapped wider and he said, "team mates, are you, are you leaving us, are you leaving the BAU?", Penelope looked down at her stomach and then up at her family and said, "well I was offered the job permanently". JJ said, "but you're not going to take it right, you're going to stay here with us, stay with your family, right?", Penelope smiled and said, "I love you all so much and you are my family, my heart"
Dave said, "are you going to take the job kitten?", Penelope said, "well papa bear I turned the offer down, I want to stay here in Virginia with all of you", Dave smiled and said, "that's great news kitten, just wonderful". Emily said, "are you sure that you're alright, you look kinda pale PG", JJ nodded her head in agreement and said, "did you see a doctor while you were away, get started on prenatal vitamins do your checkups?", Penelope smiled at the two women and said, "yes, yes I did and these guys took very good care of me".
Derek sighed and said under his breath, "I just bet they did", Penelope looked at him and said, "did you say something Agent Morgan?", hearing her call him Agent Morgan instead of Derek or one of her other nicknames for him hurt and it hurt bad. He said, "nothing of any important's baby girl", she flinched at hearing him call her that again and he said, "can we talk?", she said, "not right now", Derek said, "then when, we need to talk about the baby".
Penelope said, "WEEEEEE don't need to talk about my baby" as she waved her hand back and forth between them and Derek said, "this is my baby too ya know", she looked at him and said, "is it, are you sure because you pretty much called me a whore without actually saying the words before I left and accused me of cheating on you". Derek looked up at her as she said, "you broke my heart Derek, you thought that I cheated on you, me, the woman that has stood by you through so much, you actually thought that I would cheat on you", he looked down at his hands and said, "we took care of all of that while you were gone".
Penelope said, "what do you mean, took care of?", Reid said, "the person that was behind all of that was Kevin", she sat listening as the team filled her in on everything that had happened while she was gone involving Kevin and his cohort. Penelope said, "K K Kevin, he did that to me?", JJ said, "he did but don't worry him and his accomplice are both in prison and you don't have to worry about either of them ever again", she weakly smiled and said, "well that's good news", she was pulled from her thoughts when Hotch called her name.
She looked up and said, "yes boss man?", he said, "I'm so sorry that all of that happened to you and Morgan, neither of you deserve it", she said, "thank you sir but their is no me and Agent Morgan, not anymore". Derek stood up and walked over to her and took her by the hand and pulled her up from the seat, Mick and the others were right beside Penelope and when she struggled the men pulled Derek off of him and Penelope was pulled behind Mick.
Penelope stood watching as Mick and the others stood between her and Derek, now she knew that Derek would never hurt her, well at least not physically, it's just that she was't ready to be touched by him yet because being touched by him brought back so many memories, touches that she was afraid she would never crave again. Watching Derek being pushed away from her hurt, ohhhh did it hurt but right now she just couldn't talk to him but she would talk to him and try to work things out just not now and not tonight.
Emily said, "guys, you don't have to do this, he wasn't gonna hurt her, he just wants to talk to her, to try to make things up to her, to make her understand that he's sorry and that he loves her", Mick said, "I love the fact that you care about Penelope Em but can't you see that she's scared of him and that she doesn't want anything to do with him, not yet and him trying to force himself on her isn't gonna help him".
Reid said, "Mick's right Morgan", Derek looked at him and said, "I've just missed her, I just want to talk to her", Penelope said, "and we'll talk, I promise we will but not now, we'll talk when I'm ready", Derek said, "but" and Dave said, "no buts son, she's in control here, she's the one that determines the pace of everything", Derek looked down at his hands and said, "alright" he then looked up at Penelope and said, "I'm sorry baby girl, I didn't mean to scare you".
She said, "it's okay but please don't, please don't touch me, not, not yet", he said, "okay, I won't", having to say those words broke his heart but he knew that after everything he had put her though and had said to her that he needed to slow things down on his end and let her have time to adjust to being back into their lives again and then when she was ready he'd do anything and everything to make sure that she understood that they belonged together.
Glancing at Derek she could see the hurt written all over him, she didn't mean to hurt him, not at all, but, being back home with him made everything that happened more vivid, she knew that nothing was his fault, just like it wasn't her fault but things had happened before she left and it's hard to get back into the flow of things. Penelope blew out a deep breath and smiled at her team, ohhh how she'd missed them but her body was telling her it was time to go home and rest, she would see them tomorrow and spend more time with them but tonight, tonight she was exhausted.
Penelope looked around and said, "guys I'm glad to be back but I need to go home and rest", Rick said, "first we need to get some food in you Penelope, you haven't eaten since early this morning", Chad said, "he's right". JJ said, "you have to think of you and the baby Garcie so you need to eat and rest", Penelope said, "I will, I promise", Mick and the others said their good nights to the BAU and then escorted Penelope from the room.
Derek stood watching through the window as the woman he loved, the woman that owned him heart, body and soul walked away with the men of her undercover team and as he watched them disappear around the corner he knew that he had brought all of this on himself for ever doubting her, if even for only a moment.
