A Matter Of Trust-Ch 30
After taking her out for a light supper, Chad, Mick and the others took her back to her apartment and after making sure that everything was okay they told her good night and if she needed anything to call them anytime. They were on downtime now and were all going to stay in town for a little while just to make sure that she was okay before heading back home, they couldn't leave not knowing what was going to happen with Derek and Penelope.
As she laid in her bed she tossed and turned, she loved being back home with her family and friends but she was afraid that things between her and Derek would never ever be the same, not after what happened between them before she left. Her hand slid down to her stomach and she said, "don't worry little one mommy will always be here for you and she will always always love you, after a little while she felt herself getting sleepy so she closed her eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.
Across town Derek ran his hand over his head and said, "Derek you are so stupid, stupid, stupid, how could you crowd her like that, how could you just go grab her hand like an idiot, of course she was scared of you". He sighed as he downed the rest of his beer before tossing the bottle into the trash, he looked at the time and said, "it's almost midnight I better lay down and at least try to get some sleep" as he turned the lights off and headed upstairs to bed.
Derek tossed and turned till about 3:00 before he was finally able to drift off to sleep, he loved Penelope with all of his heart and no matter what it took he would make her see that he was sorry and that she was the only person in the world for him. The next morning when he woke up he was determined to see Penelope, he showered, got dressed and headed over to her apartment, he knew that she was up and probably getting ready now and he just hoped that she would see him if only for a few minutes.
Penelope was standing in front of her mirror and she smiled and said, "not bad Garcie, wellllllll not bad considering you're six months pregnant and have to waddle everywhere", she then giggled before walking across her room and stepping through the beaded curtain that separated her living room and bedroom. It was a beautiful morning, she'd had a good nights sleep, her first in a long time and she'd had sweet dreams of her and Derek.
As she was reaching for her cup of tea she heard a knock on her door, she walked over and looked through the peep hole and saw Derek's face, she bit down on her bottom lip and said to herself, "you can do this Penelope, you can be strong". She put her hand on the door knob and slowly turned it, when she opened the door she saw Derek's tired face, she said, "Derek", he said, "Penelope", they stood there looking at each other for about a minute before she said, "would you like to come in?", he nodded his head and said, "yes please".
She stepped back and allowed him inside, as he walked through her door memories of his last time there came to his mind and he could just kick himself for treating his baby girl like that, she was a kind, loving person that didn't deserve to be treated the way he had treated her and now all that was left was a shattered relationship, a relationship that he wanted back and as he looked into her face he could only hope that she wanted it too.
Penelope said, "please, have a seat", he sat down on the couch, she walked over and sat down beside him, it was awkward, very awkward but she cleared her throat and said, "I would offer you some coffee but being six months pregnant the smell of coffee early in the morning makes me a little nauseated", Derek waved his hand and said, "no problem swe, no problem Penelope" as he weakly smiled at her.
They sat back in their seat and Penelope said, "what brings you here this morning?", Derek said, "I want to talk to you, to apologize, to try to work things out with you, to make you see that we deserve another chance, will you give me, give us that chance?", she looked down at her hands that were laying in her lap and said, "alright, go ahead Derek, say whatever it is you want to say, I'm listening".
Derek swallowed hard and said, "I'm such a fool Penelope, I never should have doubted you, not for a second, I love you with all of my heart, I have been in love with you since the day I met you", he blew out a deep breath before continuing. She looked at him and said, "I can't tell you how bad it hurt me Derek, the fact that you could doubt me after everything we had been through, it broke my heart and when you practically called me a whore, well that was the last straw, after that after you pulled away from me that morning before you left for that case, I just, I just can't, not anymore".
He slowly reached over and took her hand in his and said, "please baby girl, please don't give up on us, on me, I love you and I'm so so sorry about what happened, please give me another chance and if you do I promise you that I'll never let you down again". She looked into his eyes and she could see nothing but love and sincerity, she said, "Derek I", he intertwined their fingers and brought her hand up to his lips and gently kissed it and said, "please baby girl, please forgive me and give me another chance".
Penelope looked at him she could tell that he was truly sorry and when he smiled at her in his famous Derek Morgan smile way her heart started mending, she sat listening for a few minutes as he continued telling her how much he loved her and how sorry he was for what he'd said. When he was through she sighed and said, "Derek I don't know if we should', he stopped her by saying, "no, no baby, please don't break up with me, please give me another chance, please give your man another chance and I promise you that I will never everrrrrrrr give you a reason to leave me again".
She grinned at him and said, "Derek Michael Morgan, are you trying to seduce me?", he winked at her and said, "only if it's working", he smiled at her again and said, "is it working?", she burst out laughing as she leaned back against the couch. He put his hand on top of hers and said, "sooooooo, is it, is it working, will you please give me, give us another chance?", she bit down on her bottom lip and after a few minutes nodded her head yes.
Derek said, "permission to hug you", she said, "permission granted", he leaned in and gently wrapped his arms around her and whispered into her ear, "thank you goddess, you won't regret this, I promise you that you will never ever be given a reason to leave". Penelope smiled down at him and said, "I'll hold you to that Derek because I don't think I could stand going through this again", he leaned in and kissed her temple and said, "don't worry, you won't have to, you won't have too" as they then sat cuddled together on the couch.
Her free hand slid down to her stomach where their child was currently kicking, she winched and he said, "are you okay, do I you need to go to the hospital?", she grinned and said, "no, no nothing's wrong, it's just that the baby, it's kicking". His eyes lit up he said, "does the baby kick a lot?", she said, "ohhhh yes, he or she is very active and they like to kick mommy all day", she rubbed her stomach and said, "don't you little one".
She then looked at Derek and said, "you, you can feel the baby kick if you want", he slowly moved his hand to her stomach and the second he touched her stomach the baby kicked against his hand, he smiled, really smiled. As she looked at his face she could see how much he loved her, truly loved her and the baby, she said, "Derek?", he looked at her and said, "yeah?", she said, "how about tonight you and I have a movie night, now I'm not promising anything but", Derek said, "I'll take it, I'll take it"
They sat there smiling and talking for a few more minutes before they got up and he walked her to her car, he said, "thank you for giving me another chance, I promise you won't regret it", as she started her car and pulled away she glanced through her rear view mirror and smiled, she loved him and even though right now they were having trouble she knew that she would always love him and she owed it to them and to their baby to at least try and try she would because he was now and would always be her hotstuff.
