Chapter 5: Worst Generation

It has been one week since the start of the school year and that incident. It also marks the beginning of the first years' first day in class now that the classrooms have been repaired.

This year's freshmen were going to be handful especially that class 1-D.

Each year, the number of delinquents enrolling into Grand Line Gakuen increase. Each year worse than the other. And this year is by far the worst. A good majority of them are not much of an issue. The problem lies in eleven particular delinquents whom were labeled as the 'Worst Generation' and their gangs. Not even the teachers know what to do with them. Their best bet was putting them in 1-D, the delinquent class where the worst delinquents are sent to under the guidance of the Dark King Rayleigh not that he had a problem with it. On the contrary, he volunteered to be the homeroom teacher of the class.

If it was one thing Raleigh liked, it was the rise of the number of delinquents. It reminded him of his youth as a delinquent. He found it funny how he became the one thing he never thought he'd become: a teacher. It'd be the joke of the century if he enlisted himself under the marines like his former colleague, Garp, but then again that old fool was already a marine to begin with when they were still students. And then came his old captain, Gol D. Roger. Roger offered him to join his crew despite him being a teacher at the time and Roger a problem student. Those were good old days.

Now he enjoys his days watching over the new generation of delinquents but so far he hasn't seen much. Although he has heard about this "Worst Generation," maybe they're actual delinquents instead of those run-of-the-mill punks. All the more to see them.

"Good morning class, I'll be your homeroom teacher. The name's Silver Rayleigh."

Hm, this year's first years looked promising. Not a single one got knocked out by his Haki. There were a few stragglers but that itself was an impressive accomplishment. Every year, after introducing himself he would always use his Haoshoku Haki and more than half of class would faint. To think, there'd be a day where he'd meet a whole class that still be conscious after experiencing his Haoshoku Haki. He looks forward to this year and what lies ahead of his students.

From the looks on their faces except for one clueless straw hat, they had already knew about him. Some already knew about him when he first walked in the classroom while the others had a priceless look on their faces when they heard his name.

According to Shakky's information, there are eleven promising individuals in his class. Basil Hawkins "The Magician," a devil fruit student, is infamous for his tarot card predictions. He is the leader of the Hawkins Gang from North Blue Middle School. Those who've had the shadow of death on them had nothing but misfortune fall upon them most of which end up a mental hospital. Rumors have it that some even flew off to remote islands to escape the shadow of death and were never heard of again.

Capone "Gang" Bege, a devil fruit student who appears older than he actually is, mimicking the appearance of an Italian mafia leader. Took over his family's mafia business after the death of the previous boss, his father, two years ago. He is the leader of the Firetank Gang from West Blue Middle School.

Eustass "Captain" Kid, another devil fruit student and a part of the "Worst Generation," is the one the most dangerous delinquents among this year's first year. He is infamous for putting anyone who dares laugh at him in the hospital in critical condition bordering life and death. His victims include not only delinquents but also normal students as well. He is the leader of the Kid Gang originating from South Blue Middle School.

"Big Eater" Jewelry Bonney, leader of the Bonney Gang, is like her name goes. Despite her pretty appearance, she can eat food ten times her weight. She like many of the "Worst Generation" possesses a devil fruit ability. Anyone who has ticked her off as never lived to see the next day. Like the Kid Gang, her gang originated from South Blue Middle School.

"Massacre Soldier" Killer, a member of the Kid Gang. He is one of the only two of the "Worst Generation" without a devil fruit power. Despite his level of skill, he works under Eustass Kid.

Monkey D. Luffy known as "Straw Hat" Luffy, a devil fruit student, is the leader of one of the most potientally dangerous gangs. Even the Marines had their eyes on their gang before they enrolled ever since he heard among his coworkers that he beat one of the Shichibukai 'Sir' Crocodile. It was because of this that the Marines became restless when they received his enrollment sheets to Grand Line Gakuen. He formed his crew in East Blue Middle School.

Roranoa Zoro known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro, one of the two members of the "Worst Generation" who does not possess a devil fruit ability, is the one after Hawkeyes' title of best swordsman. He uses a three sword style. He is the very first member to join the Straw Hat Gang.

Scratchmen Apoo who is called the "Roar of the Sea" is from the Longarm Tribe. As he is part of the Longarm Tribe, he has long arms with two elbow joints on each arm. This allows him better usage of his devil fruit powers. Normally people enjoy hearing music but if you hear his then you'll think twice before doing so. He is the leader of the On Air Gang. He came from the middle school department of Grand Line Gakuen.

"Surgeon of Death" Trafalgar Law, a devil fruit student, is the leader of the Heart Gang. He came from North Blue Middle School like Basil Hawkins. He is infamous for his cruelty. He once sent a hundred delinquents to the hospital and as a gift, he sent them their hearts. It was just utter chaos as none of the doctors knew what to do. After that, the hospital shut down permanently.

"Mad Monk" Uroge, a devil fruit student, is the leader of the Mad Monk Gang. It is rumored that he graduated from a school located in the sky which was the only explanation for the angel wings on his back. Due to his mysterious background, the school was hesitant to enroll him.

"Red Flag" X Drake, North Blue Middle School graduate, is another devil fruit student. He is the leader of the Drake Gang. He was once a straight A, honor student with a goal of becoming a police officer from North Blue Middle School before his delinquent ways. The Marines even scouted him before he turned delinquent.

So these are the infamous "Worst Generation." They definitely aren't like other punks. These guys definitely got some character to them especially that Monkey D. Luffy.

In the back, there was one delinquent emitting a great deal of killing intent. It was quite impressive. Not all delinquents can even come close to this kid's killing intent. It was the first day of class and someone already as someone out for their head. The kid must be something to have someone out to kill him.

Normally, a teacher would do something about this the moment they realize someone is out to harm another student. But not Rayleigh, he prefers to let students handle their own problems on their own. Kids will be kids.

"Law…"

A shadow loomed over him. He looked up to see Dellinger, one of the top executives.

"Ah, there you are Bellamy! So you did fail in bringing back Law! Oh well, not that it matters." It didn't matter that all of his effort was for nothing! He was expected to fail! Then what exactly the point in him doing all that if only meant failure.

As Bellamy was immobilized from his fight with Law, Dellinger reached for one of his pockets to take the den den mushi he got from Diamante. "Your only purpose was to find out Law's current fighting skills. That's what the young master sa-… Whoops, I said too much."

"This time I won't fail…"

"Alright, all of kids are now first years in high school though some of you look pretty old for high school students let alone first years. But then again, you're not the first ones I've seen. Hahaha…"

"Who are you saying looks like an old man!" Luffy shouts back feeling insulted.

"He wasn't talking about you!" Usopp knocks some sense into his loudmouth captain dragging him back down to his seat.

Rayleigh chuckles at the two's comedy act.

What a lively bunch this year.

"As all of you know, our school is a bit different from normal schools."

No, duh. The fact that they are lenient with fights and have their own special system already shows how abnormal this school is. In fact, most students usually enroll into the school because of how eccentric it is thinking how much fun it would be to be there.

"But knowing this class, I doubt most of you if any bothered to show up for the orientation."

This old man was smarter than they thought. Well, he is the former right hand man of the infamous delinquent, Gol D. Roger. Only a few actually bothered to go while the rest just ditched.

"From the looks on your faces, I'm right. If that's the case, then…"

He really is more than just an old man.

"Good luck then."

"You're not going to tell us!" Nearly the entire classroom shouted at their homeroom teacher except for some.

"What fun would that be if I just gave you all the answers."

'Basically you're doing this for your own self satisfaction.'

"Haha… You kids are so fun to mess with."

Eh? That was all a joke. Honestly, in their opinion, it wasn't much a joke. The only joke in there would be how did he become a teacher in the first place.

"Unlike other schools, Grand Line Gakuen doesn't actually stop fights but rather encourage duels or battles as you may call. The whole purpose of this school is to cultivate the young generation like you kids into capable people of society, but for the most part its main focus is to help the devil fruit students gain control over their powers so that they don't end up causing havoc. Although this school has a leniency over fights because of this, that doesn't mean you can just fight someone out of the blue. Before you can actually challenge someone to duel, you must have a teacher as a referee in case something were to go wrong. Any duel without a teacher present is counted as a fight, but as long as you're not caught by a Marine, you're a free man or woman in some cases. Like most schools, our school has a disciplinary committee, the Marines. They are also referred to as the 'World Government' sometimes. However our disciplinary committee is much different from other disciplinary committees whereas they are given permission to carry weapons ranging from guns to cannons to cyborgs. Of course, this rule doesn't apply only to the Marines. To keep our students safe, they allow them to carry weapons in case they are to accidently come across a fight which is quite frequent here."

It was a surprise why a school that allowed weapons was even allowed to exist.

"Among the Marines, there are special ranks. Starting from the bottom: chore boy, seaman recruit, seaman apprentice, seaman first class, petty officier, chief petty officer, master chief petty officer, warrant officer, ensign, lieutenant junior grade, lieutenant, lieutenant commanders, commander, captain, commodore, rear admiral, vice admiral, admiral, and fleet admiral. I doubt you'd remember all these ranks, but just a head's up. The fleet admiral and admirals have the power to expel any student they find violating the rules. Vice admirals only give out suspension and home arrests. Only people of these three ranks can actually deal you any kind of corporal punishment."

This was getting much more serious than they thought, but should he really be releasing this type of information to them, delinquents. As long as they avoid the fleet admiral and admirals, they're pretty much home free. Suspension and home arrest they can do.

"If you were thinking of just avoiding the fleet admiral and admirals, then you might want to rethink that. Just so you know those people are teachers. The Marines consist of not only students but teachers as well within their ranks. Some of the vice admirals are also teachers too. Then there are the Seven Royal Shichibukai. The Shichibukai are delinquents like you but are allied with the Marines. It's because of this, they are considered government dogs."

Hearing the word 'shichibukai' reminded Luffy of Hancock since he never got a chance to fight her, he never got to know how strong she is.

"And the ones given special treatment by not only the Marines but also the school are the Tenryuubito who are the children and grandchildren of this school's donors and the descendants of the school's founders as well."

Tenryuubito if memory serves him right, they were the bad people that enslaved Hancock and her sisters.

"Due to their spoiled lifestyles, they're completely rotten to the core. It doesn't help that the Marines follow their every order. One word from them and you'll be expelled in one go. They command enough authority to summon an admiral. Be careful. I don't want to lose a student just yet."

As if they're dumb enough to go and do something to get expel, they may be delinquents but they all have enough brains to know when to avoid expulsion.

.

Wait a minute, there might just be one.

"Why is everyone looking at me?" Luffy had no idea why his most of his classmates and friends are giving him a grim look on their face. The only one who didn't give him a look was Law who looked completely unfazed by all the information their teacher told them.

"Most of you are wondering about the school system regarding the devil fruit students and the regular students. Devil fruit students are special students who are allowed special entrance into Grand Line Gakuen for solely possessing a devil fruit ability. They are also exempt from taking the entrance exam to here as they are given a scholarship so long as they are enrolled here. A good deal you think. Too good if you ask me."

That's right. Scholarships are usually for the intelligent, athletic, and special individuals, not to random students who happen to meet the requirements, and especially not to delinquents like them who have caused nothing but trouble.

"As much as this school does offer freedom, it's not the place of rainbows and unicorns. It's a much terrifying place than all of you have ever been to."

Silence~

If this was all it took to shut them up, then maybe they weren't as tough as he thought they were. Honestly, he expected more out of them.

*slam*

Kid glares at Rayleigh after slamming his fist into his desk breaking it in half.

"Don't screw with me! I didn't come here to walk out just because it's a little dangerous. "

What a nice speech.

"Sounds fun." Luffy laughs pleased at how much fun his high school life was going to be.

"Heh, I'm just itching for a brawl." Zoro slightly unsheathes one of his swords.

"The cards indicate a 100% memorable high school life." Hawkins rearranges his cards to make another prediction.

"What a bunch of idiots…" Bonney takes another bite into her pizza.

"How vulgar…" Capone says in disgust at Bonney's horrible table manners.

"I-I'm n-not s-scared of a-anything!" Usopp declares.

"Oh... Then I suppose your legs are trembling in excitement?" Uroge looks down at Usopp's shaking legs.

Rayleigh couldn't help but laugh. These kids really were something. Rayleigh really looked forward to how this year would turn out.

For an abnormal school filled with strange eccentricities around every corner, the lessons were surprisingly normal or in 1-D's case absolutely boring. Most of the students practically feel asleep. The teachers were frustrated from having to deal with such rudeness on their first meeting, not that they expected much from delinquents but they should at the very least stay awake long enough for them to introduce themselves to their new students.

But there was one class where they were all awake for: P.E. Luckily their P.E. teacher was their homeroom teacher, Rayleigh. He was one of the few teachers they actually respected.

For their PE lesson, he had them split into two different groups: the devil fruit users and the non-devil fruit users. Curious as to what kind of abilities they had, Rayleigh assigned the devil fruit students a little sparring match between two students while the rest watched until it was their turn. The non-devil fruit users didn't have to participate so they could either watch or take a nap. That's not something a teacher would normally say to his students.

The first pair up was between Jewelry Bonney and Capone Bege.

Since it was only a sparring match to see what their devil fruit abilities are and how effective they use them, the matches weren't that long.

These two had interesting abilities. One can change the age of a person while the other can make himself like a human fortress. It was cute seeing the little soldiers inside him coming out.

Hawkins's ability was perfectly suited for the Black Magic Club. Uroge's ability would definitely give him an edge in the sports department. Drake's ancient zoan ability was a sight to see. It was refreshing to see a dinosaur in this age. Apoo's ability was really popular among several of the students until it sent a sound wave that almost sliced his opponent to pieces.

From what he saw with the rest, they all had interesting devil fruit abilities too. Bellamy ate the Bane Bane no Mi allowing him to transform parts of his body into springs. Nico Robin ate the Hana Hana no Mi which allows her to grow body parts. The cute Straw Hat pet, Tony Tony Chopper, ate the zoan class Hito Hito no Mi making him talking reindeer that can transform into a human and human-reindeer hybrid. Brook's Yomi Yomi no Mi explained how there was a talking skeleton among his students. The oddest one so far was Luffy's devil fruit, the Gomu Gomu no M. He was talented in how he used it, but it was strange to see your student swell up like a balloon or turn into a child after enlarging his fast the size of a giant's.

And for the last two, he looked forward to how they would do.

"Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law."

As the two walked up, their subordinates cheered for their victory.

"Go Captain!"

"Don't go causing another scene, Kid. The last thing we need is the whole place destroyed."

"Captain, you'll definitely win!"

"Master Kid, we're rooting for you!"

"Good luck, Captain!"

Oh how long he's waited for this. Ever since he fought with Law and Luffy on their first day of school, Kid has been itching for a fight with Law. And now he's got that chance.

"Aren't we the popular one?" Kid smugly remarks to Law who only responds with a smirk.

Whatever, right now he's just happy he gets to fight Law even if his opponent was purposely provoking him with that smirk on his face.

"Hey 'teach, don't mind a little blood here and there, right?"

"Just don't make a mess or I'll be hearing complaints from the janitor."

That was all he needed to hear.

"Eustass-ya, I would appreciate it if you stop chuckling like a mad man. It is a disturbing sight not that you can see."

"Let's see if you can say that again when I'm through with you." He was going to savior this match.

It's been awhile since he's found a worthy opponent to fight full on. Most of his opponents were either spineless, mediocre delinquents or overly confident fools with barely any power with no real battle experience at all. Real delinquents were hard to come across and right before him is one.
