I know it seemed like Caroline gave up easily but in this chapter I will have her explain why she was going to do it.
You're Human
Caroline woke up and saw Klaus wasn't in their bed.
She groaned and turned around. She looked at the clock and it was 10:45. She pulled the covers over her head. She didn't want to get up and face all of them. Especially since it's her birthday.
It has been two days since Caroline tried to kill herself. She hasn't left the room since. She slept through half the day. She had pleasant dreams and even asked Klaus to show her beautiful scenery.
Someone knocked on the door. She put the cover off her face.
"Whoever it is, Go away!" She yelled.
"Caroline, it's me." Elena said. "I don't feel like talking 'Lena." She answered. "Fine then let's not talk. Let's eat." Elena suggested. "Fine, Come in." Caroline allowed. Elena opened the door. She was carrying a red velvet cupcake with a lit candle on the top.
"I know it's early for cupcakes. But I thought you'd need it" She said. Caroline smiled. "Red velvet! My favorite" She smiled. Elena nodded and laid down next to her. She pulled the cover's over her body. "Make a wish" Elena said excitedly. Caroline took the cupcake from her, She smiled and whispered her wish before blowing it out.
"What'd you wish for?"
"If I tell you, It will never come true." Elena giggled. Yes Elena and Caroline have been through hell but they are family and they won't leave each other. Caroline sighed.
"Are you mad at me? Like Stefan and Rebekah?" Caroline asked. Elena sighed. "No, I was. I was mad about the fact that you would leave me. We are supposed to be together and help each other. We both couldn't do that for Bonnie so I thought we'd do that for each other. But then I realized, You are brave for making that decision. I ment what I said Caroline. I am not letting you leave before I do. I've already lost Bonnie. I don't want to loose you too."
"I know. It was selfish of me to do that. Silas would have killed all of you. I don't even want to think about what Klaus or even Stefan would have done. We both know they are emotionally unstable at times."
Elena nodded. "I know what it feels like Caroline. To be scared and afraid of dying. I knew I was going to die from Klaus but I moved on from it. You are stronger than that. You don't want to die that way. Or even die at all. You want to with your friends and family."
"Thank you. You are right. If I was going to die I would want to say goodbye to my friends, my mom. I can't leave her."
"I will always be there for you Caroline. I will always be there."
"Isn't the just adorable." Rebekah said as her and Klaus walked in. "To be honest Elena I didn't think you were that touching." Rebekah said smirking. "I'm just shocked you are able to show any emotion at all." Elena snapped.
"Don't loose your tongue Elena." Rebekah warned.
"I'm tired so I'm just going to go back to bed." Caroline said. "No Sweetheart you and Rebekah are having a girls day." Klaus announced to her. "Me and Rebekah? We're having a girls day?" Caroline asked shocked.
"Yes because I want you to have a good birthday."
"Well a good birthday to me is laying in bed with the man she loves" Caroline said smiling sweetly. "Caroline get the bloody hell up before I drag you" Rebekah threatened. "Nope! Now I'm not. Besides I'm a safety hazard." Caroline defended.
"No you aren't." Klaus said.
"Yes I am!" She argued. "Rebekah, Elena leave. I need to talk with Caroline for a moment." Klaus said. Elena grumbled and got off the bed. She glared at Klaus and Rebekah before walking out. Rebekah walked out after.
"What's wrong Love?" He asked.
"Rebekah is mad at me. I don't want to have the 'Caroline you brainless twit' conversation or the 'why in the bloody hell would you kill yourself' conversation and lets not forget the 'Wow Caroline I thought you were stronger than that' conversation." Caroline said. He nodded. "Well would you rather hear it from her or me because we haven't had that conversation."
"To be honest, I'd rather have that conversation with Elijah."
"Sadly he is busy."
Caroline softly chuckled. "I just don't want to talk about it yet" Klaus nodded. "Spend the day with my sister. You were close before you got distracted. She isn't that mad." He said.
"Isn't she? You're mad and you won't yell at me but she will."
Klaus licked his lips. He hasn't been this confused since he had to figure out how to break the curse. He wasn't mad, he was more disappointed. "I'm going to make you birthday worth it's wild. Go out with Rebekah."
She nodded.
"Fine, just promise me my birthday won't be a huge celebration. I'm just not feeling my birthday this year." She said softly. Klaus nodded and kissed her forehead.
"Alright, Love."
Caroline and Rebekah walked down the street.
"So... Where are we going?!" Caroline asked with enthusiasm. Rebekah didn't answer. She completely ignored Caroline. "Um... Hello? I know you are mad at me but come on this is silly." Caroline told her. Rebekah rolled her eyes and walked faster. Caroline caught up to her. "You do know that even if you are vampire fast, I'm still a fast runner." Rebekah stayed silent.
"Seriously?!" Caroline yelled. Rebekah looked to the other side. Caroline sighed. She knew Rebekah was mad but not like this.
Before Caroline knew it, Rebekah threw her into an ally. Caroline fell hard on the ground. She looked at Rebekah confused and shocked.
Caroline groaned. "Ugh, I know you are mad but killing me isn't exactly solving the situation." Rebekah glared. "Do you know what you've put us through this past two weeks? Stefan hasn't slept. I haven't slept. Katherine hasn't slept. Then you go off and try to kill yourself. Are you out of your bloody mind?" Rebekah asked.
Caroline stood up. "I know what I did was wrong. People make mistakes." Rebekah scoffed. "Since when has Caroline Forbes ever made a mistake? Isn't her life perfect? She has friends, family, a boyfriend that will do anything for her! Yet she seems unhappy. How do you explain that?"
"I do have friends! I do have my mom! I do have a boyfriend that will do anything for me because he loves me! But that doesn't explain why I was going to kill myself. Do you know what it's like to look at all the terrible things you've done? All the stupid mistakes you've made? To have someone who knows a lot about you use your insecurities against them? No you don't because if someone messed with you they would end up without a heart." Rebekah walked closer to her.
"Listen here you little twit! Everyone that I have had feelings for, my brother has killed. I have been through more than you have. My father hunted my brothers and I down for a thousand years, I have lived my life without my mother and learned that my brother killed her." Rebekah yelled pausing.
"Then she came back to life and planned my death before taking over my body to finish the job. I have been picked on and daggered so many times I don't know who to trust. My two brothers were taken away from me. My only chance of happiness was taken away from me and guess who has it now? You do."
Caroline looked down. Everything Rebekah said was right. Rebekah has been through more. Hell, everyone has been through more. She was weak and couldn't handle it. She was stupid.
"I'm sorry. I thought I would be doing you guys a favor. So you guys wouldn't have to worry. It was selfish but at the time I thought I was helping." Caroline said defending herself.
"It's always what you think. Did you think about Nik? Or Stefan? Katherine? Me? Nik would have become twice the monster he was before he met you. Stefan would have felt emptiness that would end up with him being a ripper again. You are his family Caroline! Katherine finally has a happy ending. She has Elijah and you. She cares about you! Katherine has hated everyone her whole life yet you and Elijah changed her world. She wants a chance in family yet you try to kill yourself. What about your mother?"
"No!, You don't get to do that. I saw my mom's heart ripped out! Silas put her through pain and I'm the bad guy for trying to help her! You need to stop acting like the victim! I understand what I did was wrong but yelling at me and making me feel terrible about it isn't helping. I have had a week of mourning. I haven't spoken to Stefan because I don't want to see the disappointment in his eyes. I know your brother is angry and upset with me but he won't say anything because I was suicidal. I'm sorry!"
Rebekah frowned. She knew she was going over board but she couldn't help but feel this way.
"Just... Just don't do anything stupid like that again." Rebekah said giving up. Caroline nodded. "Of course." Rebekah nodded. "Come on, let's get our hair done. Your's looks truly terrible." Caroline smirked.
"Okay."
Elena walked into the courtyard.
Elena heard they used it for parties. Caroline told her all about the angel/devil party the had here. Elena wasn't stupid. She could tell the party was for Caroline's birthday. She could also tell Klaus was going above and beyond for it.
"What the bloody hell are you doing here?" Klaus asked bitterly. Elena glared at him.
"I wanted to see Caroline's party. You do know that it's obvious why you had her hang out with Rebekah, right?" Klaus rolled his eyes. "Leave before I ignore Caroline's wishes and kill you." Klaus threatened.
"You and I both know you wouldn't hurt me."
Klaus smirked. "You're right. I'd hurt the people you love. Please, tell me how Matt and Jeremy are. What about Damon? He is on the top of my kill list." Elena eyes went a little wide at the thought. "I have no idea what Caroline sees in you."
"She sees someone who will actually put her first."
"I see someone who kills and murders without hesitation."
Klaus smirked. "Do you know what I see when I look at you?" Elena rolled her eyes and shrugged. "I see someone who covers the fact that they are horrible. I see someone who pretends she didn't kill hundreds... Sorry thousands of vampires just to become human. I see a girl who tried to kill all of her friends and blames it on the fact that she had her humanity off."
"I see a liar and a fake." He finished.
Elena rolled her eyes. "Because I helped killed both of your monstrous brother's that makes me a terrible person?" Elena asked. "Yes, because if it was the other way around you would be calling me a heartless monster."
"Which is true." She resorted.
"Monster, yes. Heartless, no." Elena glared.
"Now leave before I ripped your heart out of your chest." Elena turned to walk out. Right before she was fully out, she turned around. "You should be lucky Caroline turned human or she would've never gave a monster like you a chance."
"Debatable"
Rebekah and Caroline walked into the Mikaelson home.
They had a nice time getting their hair done, going shopping, and getting something to eat. Caroline got her hair cut and styled. She didn't dye her hair but it had more of a natural glow to it. Rebekah got her hair cut and highlights.
Katherine walked in. "You guys went out without me. I'm hurt." She joked. Caroline smiled and rolled her eyes. "I'm going to go see Stefan so, I'll see you later." She said to them.
They watched Rebekah walked away from them.
"So, happy birthday." Katherine said. Caroline smiled brightly. "Thanks! Where is Klaus?" She asked. Katherine shrugged. "Not here, he asked me to deal with Davina." She told her. Caroline nodded.
"I want to go with you."
Katherine didn't try to argue even though she knew Klaus wanted her nowhere near Davina.
Katherine and Caroline slowly walked into the torture room, as Caroline called it . Davina looked at them surprised. "What are you doing here?" She asked. Caroline walked closer to her. "I'm just here to talk. That's all." She said softly.
Davina nodded. "Marcel talked to me about a deal him and Klaus made." Caroline started. "What deal?" Katherine asked confused. "A deal where you get to stay with Marcel but you don't get to keep your dark magic."
"What?!" Davina asked angrily.
"Look where magic has gotten you too. Do you honestly want this dark magic? You don't want to restart and use good magic." Caroline asked. "This is who I am. That dark magic is what I was born for." Davina defended. "Being alive is what you live for. This magic, your magic could kill you." Davina shook her head.
"No!, I do not want that. I need my magic."
"Davina, My best friend died because she used to much magic to bring the love of her life, back to life. I remember when her mother became a vampire. She said she couldn't feel the earth. You will get your magic back but Sophie will teach you how to use real and good magic. Not dark and evil magic."
"It makes me strong."
"Willing to start over makes you stronger."
"You don't know how hard it is to restarting." Caroline shook her head. "I don't know about restarting? Look at me. I use to be thing strong vampire, a happy vampire and now I'm a human, whose life is numbered."
"After, I can leave here, right?" Caroline nodded. Katherine was shocked. Usually Davina screams death threats by now. Davina smiled. "Okay, I'll do it but promise me I won't get hurt."
"I will not let anything happen to you. Come on let's get you out of these chains."
"No! Klaus said she stays locked up until Sophie can do the spell. Do not let the witch bitch out." Katherine said bitterly looking at Davina. Davina glared. "I don't care what Klaus says. I am just letting her out of these chains not setting her free to high jack mexico."
"Fine, you can deal with Klaus then."
Once Davina was free and sat on the floor.
She looked up at Caroline. "You deserve better, you know? Klaus is surrounded by darkness. You, you have light." Caroline shook her head. "That is why you're wrong, Davina. I'm the light to his darkness."
Caroline looked at herself in the mirror.
She was wearing a Skinny Ruched Cotton Spaghetti Strap Black Mini Dress. She was glad it wasn't as short on her as it looked on the hanger.
It was her nineteenth birthday. She was celebrating herself yet she didn't want to. She wants to see her mom. She wants to be with Bonnie and Matt. She wants to be in Mystic Falls. She loved New Orléans. But home is where the heart is.
Klaus walked in with his suit on.
"You looked amazingly beautiful, Sweetheart." He complimented. She smiled. "Thank you. You look dashing." She said. "Where are we going?" She asked. "We both know where we're going."
"You should have asked to throw a party for me. Especially since I wanted to plan it."
"You would have said no. As alpha male, I had to take charge." Caroline chuckled. "Whatever." She snorted. He smiled. "Come on my love. We can't keep the guest waiting, can we?"
"I guess not." She giggled.
Stefan, Rebekah, Elijah, Katherine were already there. Elena told Caroline she wasn't going to go and to have a fun time. Elena wasn't comfortable with the originals and other vampires in New Orléans. She thought it'd be safer. Before Caroline left, she made sure to give Davina water and food before they leave. She even left Davina some magazines.
Once they arrived, Caroline saw lights and heard music.
"Shall we?" Klaus said offering Caroline his arm. Caroline chuckled and wrapped her arm around his. They walked in together. It was beautiful. She was just surprised Klaus threw a better party then her.
Everyone saw Klaus and Caroline walk in. They all yelled, "Happy Birthday, Caroline!" Caroline smiled and thanked them.
Stefan walked towards them and smiled. "Happy Birthday, Care." She smiled and hugged him. "I've missed you." Caroline whispered. "I've missed you too." Klaus lead Caroline to the dance floor.
"Enjoying yourself?"
"This is an amazing party. Thank you." He kissed her softly on the lips. "You deserve the best." He said. Caroline smiled. "You are the best." Klaus smirked. "Everyone knows that, love." Klaus said. Caroline giggled.
"Really?! Last time I check everyone in New Orléans wasn't your biggest fan when I came." Klaus shrugged. "Well that's their lose."
"I know you miss your home and your mother, sweetheart. I promise the second we take down Silas, you will see your mother again." Klaus swore. Caroline looked down and then back to his eyes. "Let's not talk about that today. I just got this amazing hair due, I got new clothes, and an amazing part by the best boyfriend. Let's not let a depressing conversation ruin tonight."
"Agreed."
Caroline looked over and saw Marcel talking to Rebekah and Rebekah looking annoyed. Caroline knew about their history. She also knew that if Stefan got jealous, he would rip Marcel's head off. Literally.
"Should we worry?" Caroline asked. "Like you said, let's not let anything ruin this night." Klaus said before twirling her. "You're quite the dancer." She smiled widely making his heart ache. "Well I've had practice. I use to be Miss Mystic Falls."
"I know." He smiled. "You remember the day that I acted like a bitch to you?" Caroline asked shocked. "I remember everything we've done." He answered. She leaned in closer. "I do too. Just for different reasons." She said.
"And what would though's reasons be?"
"You'll just have to wait to find out." She smirked proudly.
"Would you like a glass of champagne?" He asked. "Lead the way." She answered.
She was happy with tonight. She had Klaus and her friends. They were having a drama free night and that's all she wants. After about thirty minutes, Caroline wanted air. "Can we go outside. It's getting warm in here." Klaus nodded and took her head.
They walked outside.
"You do know that it's bad we left the party early?" Caroline asked. "Well if I remember correctly you wanted air and besides who would notice?" Caroline smiled. She paused and looked up.
"You know, I would like to have a higher view. Can you do that jump thingy were you carry me to the top of the building?" Klaus smirked. He noticed they were in front of the building that Caroline almost killed herself. "As long as you promise not to jump."
"Haha, please?" Klaus wrapped his arms around her waist. He leaped up high and they were on top of the building. "Wow!" Caroline said. "I've never done that before." She stated. "All vampires should do that at least once."
"Well I'm human.:"
"For now." They both sat on the edge on the building. Caroline's afraid of heights but with Klaus being there she knows she won't fall.
"I know we said we weren't going to ruin tonight but we need to talk about what happen. I know you are upset. I talked to Rebekah about it. Actually she threw me on the ground to talk about it. I understand why you would be upset. Because I can't imagine how I'd feel if you weren't on this earth anymore. I don't know what I'd do or where I'd go-" Klaus cut her off.
"I was upset. I thought you were stronger than that." He answered. She got quiet. "I want to protect. I try to protect the people I love but it never works. I lost three of my brothers. My mother and father hated me. I was cold. I would hurt my family if they did something I didn't like. I betrayed, lied, and manipulated people. Then I melt you. The angel that saved the devil."
He put his hand on Caroline's cheeks. "I never want to lose you."
"You won't. I promise. I am so sorry."
They kissed.
"I love you. Thank you for an amazing birthday party."
"I love you too, love. You're welcome."
