Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4

Chapter 3: Who Are The Sawyers Part 1

Leo and Nick watched the back windows while Kathryn and Karen scavenged the small shack for any forms of weaponry. Sure, Kathryn had her small hunting knife but the others also needed protection of their own. And while large weapons, like a crow bar or an axe, was easily found among the tattered crated and wooden boxes they needed small, easy to hide weapons. Something they could hide and quickly move if inspected. However, no such thing was to be found.

"These guys must like being obvious." Karen mumbled darkly, "Not a damn useful thing here."

Kathryn heard the blonde's mumbles and tried hard not to comment on it. She was taught patience by Benny and Michelle so she could handle their failing attempt at find a defense but Karen, despite her father being a former military officer, could not. "Calm down Karen, we didn't start looking knowing what we wanted was here. Frankly, I say they are smart people."

Karen was taken back by that, "What do you mean?"

"They probably took weapons away from here in case people like us got away." the brunette explained, "But also, they left some here in case they lost their weapons too."

Karen gave the place a quick look around and sighed, she knew Kathryn was right but it was such an emotional situation that it was just natural for the blonde to react with frustration when she had no control.

"Either way," Kathryn spoken up so suddenly, "Let's take these to Leo and Nick." She picked up the axe and crow bar they had just found, "They're still useful to us if we get attacked."

Karen sighed and shrugged her shoulders, "I guess."

Kathryn smiled at her friend and playfully pushed her shoulder, "Cheer up will ya, even in a situation like this we should try to be positive."

Karen raised her eye brow and asked, "Oh really? How so?"

"Think of what you have to go home to and make that your goal." Kathryn started walking to where they left Nick and Leo on guard. "When you have something to look forward to, you'll do whatever it takes."

Karen watched Kathryn walk away, with a smile of disbelief on her face, "So optimistic." She continued to stand there for a moment until she finally decided to follow her best friend.

Nick watched the dark night while Leo was leaning against a beam with his hand over his eyes. Both were deep in their own thoughts. Nick tried to rationalize his thoughts as he tried to piece together the current events but it was hard.

His aunt, Vanita "Stretch", had told him about a crazed family here in Texas, calling them the Sawyers. She said they consisted of a chef named Drayton, an insane creep named Chop-Top, an old man they called Grandpa, and a mask wearing killer she called Leatherface. She described Leatherface as a large bulky man, always wearing a hand sewn mask made of human faces.

But they died! Nick told himself, In that explosion and the guy, Chop-Top, Auntie killed him.

"You alright Nick?" Leo turned his head toward the card nerd he always was jealous of. Leo didn't care for the sandy haired kids habits, like those weird card duels, but Nick always talked to Kathryn like it was the easiest thing ever. Leo had tried many times to talk the the sweet girl and every time she would blush and run away. Maybe it was cause Nick wasn't so high in social status and it made Kathryn more comfortable to talk to him.

Nick shook his head, "No, I'm worried." He pushed himself away from the window and sighed softly, "I've got so much on my mind and none of it is helping me cope with the situation."

"What do you mean?" he asked, dropping his hand down from his face.

Nick cast another glance out the window before explaining, "My aunt use to work as a DJ out here. They called her Stretch. One night she had these two guys called her and she heard them get killed by someone with a chainsaw."

Leo's eye widen a bit, "You mean..."

"I think they're the same people but she watched them die." Nick fought against the urge to shout despite no one was questioning him. "They died in an explosion, there was no way they could have lived."

Leo nodded, even he now was skeptical himself on anyone survival. Still, he had to think carefully about this. "They could be relatives." He reasoned.

"All except one." Nick said in a low tone, "The one with the chainsaw, he matched my aunt' description perfectly. I think, if these guys are the same folk or related, he's the one who was in love with my aunt."

"The one who killed the teachers?"

Nick nodded his head, "Yeah."

Leo watched Nick's facial expression, noting that hopelessness that overcame the other boy's face. He couldn't blame Nick for feeling like they were doomed but help was on the way. Now that he thought about it, Benny, the man Kathryn had spoken to, seemed to know a lot hiding from crazy killers.

"Hey," Leo asked suddenly, "that man Kathryn was talking to on my phone, you wouldn't happen to know who he was would ya?"

Nick didn't understand why he was now suddenly interested in Benny, he didn't know the man well but during his few chats with Kathryn he knew some basics details of the dark skinned man. "Kind of. Kat told me he was a survivalist." The sandy haired boy glanced a bit more at the popular one. "Why?"

Leo shook his head, "I was just thinking, he seemed to know what to do in this particular situation."

"Well like I said he's a-"

"No, no." Leo interrupted, "He told us to come here, he knew there was a gas station called Last Chance."

Nick stopped for a second, Leo was right. Benny did tell them to come back to the gas station and Kathryn never told him there was one really. How did he miss that when she told them to come here? Better yet, how did she miss it?

"They know something about this place I think." Leo concluded, "But, I wonder if Kathryn doesn't."

"Surely this would have brought up anything they told her if she was informed." Nick added, "We should ask her when she and Karen come back."

Leo nodded in agreement, If Benny told her anything about these deranged killers surely she would have remembered but she shows no signs of remembering anything. Did they warn her when they agreed to let her come or did they forget that detail.

Or did they even know? Ricky was babbling on about Kathryn had him fake her father's signature but Leo refused to believe that Kathryn would stoop that low. At the same time, it kind attractive to him.

Gah! This is not the time for this!
