Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4
Chapter 4: Separated
Kathryn and Karen rejoined Nick and Leo, who were both slightly edgy, even though it was appropriate it still surprised Katheryn enough to bring it up.
"We were just discussing some things," Nick had said softly, avoiding eye contact, "It's nothing much."
Karen easily accepted the answer but Kathryn wasn't fooled, "I know there's something bothering you two, tell us."
Leo glanced at Kathryn, sure they had agreed to ask her about their suspicion but at the same time, how do you bring such a thing up? It wasn't like talking about sports for guys and make up for girls, this was delicate and not an easy topic to bring up.
"Actually," Nick interrupted what thoughts were going through Leo's head. "there was something we had wanted to ask but we changed our minds."
Leo glanced at the card nerd, suddenly wondering why he was letting him do all the talking. Better yet, they should ask what they wanted to know. "Kathryn," Leo turned to the brunette, ignoring the sudden glare he received from Nick. "your friend, Benny, how did he know about this place?"
Kathryn wasn't expecting that, "Um, what do you mean?"
Nick, still glaring at Leo, sighed forcefully, "How did he know about this gas station?" Nick despised accusing people, which he felt he was doing, but he knew that they should know some small, seemingly unimportant details. "You never told him about this place until he specifically asked."
Karen glanced over at Kathryn, she couldn't hear Benny all that well when her friend was talking to him but she remembered the conversation well enough to know what they were talking about. "Why does that bother you?" Again, she was having a stereotypical blonde moment.
"Because that means he knows what's going on." Kathryn explained, she had to take a moment to realize what they were trying to get at but she finally caught on as she remembered Benny asked about Last Chance first. "I honestly don't know how he knew about this place." She tried to think back to when they told her they didn't want her to go on the trip, they never were specific in their reasons. "I know that Benny and Michelle don't like Texas."
That was all Nick need to conclude what they wanted to know, "They had to have been here. How else would they know?"
Kathryn nodded, they had to have known and they tried to warn her of this. They may not know exactly where this place is, that's why they hated the state as a whole. Now she felt bad for betraying their word. But then again, if she hadn't come along her friends would have been slaughter, if most of them haven't already.
Benny found himself on a familiar road, no matter how long ago it was since he and Michelle had been here, they could never forget. And certainly, they never could forgive either. They hated the Sawyers on a level so deep that it frighten Brandon and Melissa when they explained the events to them. At the time, Kathryn had been a toddler, already walking and babbling about random things.
Thinking back to when she was a small child, her early days, he remembered how much like the man he lit aflame she was. She, when she was first learning to talk, spoke in a thick Texan accent and constantly asked for meat. It scared Michelle more than it did Benny but nonetheless, they were afraid she was naturally like her family. Her real family.
"I'm afraid." Melissa whispered softly to no one, "I'm scared for her."
Benny shook his head, "Melissa, I promise we will save Kathryn."
Kathryn heard the truck before realizing it was far too big to be Benny's jeep. "Shit!" She cursed as she hurried to her friends. They all decided to watch different parts of gas station in hopes that if help came they'd see it. However, help didn't come.
"Hide!" She hissed to her friends who had gathered in the small garage as it was the only place with no windows.
"There's not enough hiding places for the four of us though!" Nick hissed back as the door to the gas station open and close.
"Who cares! Just try!" Kathryn hissed as she grabbed Karen's arm, "C'mon!" She and the blonde hurried underneath a clothed covered table while the boys hid in the lockers.
"Zeke stay in the truck." the thick accented voice said, "I'll only be a minute."
Kathryn placed her hand of Karen's mouth as the blonde started to whimper when the garage door opened. They could see his leather boots, cowboy styled and old, as he somewhat carelessly looked through the empty garage for any signs of Kathryn and her friends.
Tex wasn't really in the mood to be hunting, he hadn't been since Lacie's death but if his little Hunter was here he'd make the exception. And he had made the exception more that once over the years. It was tiring, constant thinking they found his baby girl when it was only a look-a-like of her. To be honest, Baby's theory that Hunter would grow up to look like Lacie wasn't quite helpful anymore. So many girls have shared identical feature as Lacie but none were his missing daughter.
Sometimes he told himself he would never look for her again but every time they said they found her he was jumping in the truck driving around until disappointment came along with anger.
He noticed some things were misplaced, moved, and rearranged but past that nothing said that people were still there. To a normal person that is.
Years of hunting people had taught all the Sawyers how to use their own survival instincts to hunt their prey. He knew people left little trails of their whereabouts, especially when hiding from crazed killers such as his family. All he had to do was look closely at the little details and he'd find his victims in short time.
"Seems like..." He said loudly as he stopped by the table next to Kathryn and Karen's hiding spot, "Someone had themselves a little MISHAP!" He jerked the table, letting fall tot he concrete floor with a sharp and loud bang. Enough to scare Karen into screaming loudly, revealing their hiding spot.
"There you are!" He grinned, happily noting that they were two girls, both candidates to be Hunter until he realized one was a blonde. "Come on pretties."
Karen shrieked as Tex roughly grabbed her hair while Kathryn quickly reached for the crow Leo insisted she carry for her own sake. She still had her knife but it wouldn't do much damage at the moment since he was very capable of fending for himself and disarming her.
She swung at him, only barely missing Karen's head thanks to his quick movements. "Come on Karen." She grabbed the frightened blonde's arm and dragged her out of the garage toward the front door, forgetting that Tex had brought another person with him.
"You're not going anywhere!" Zeke happily grinned as he jumped onto Karen's back, tackling the blonde onto the ground ad out of Kathryn's grasp.
"Karen!" Kathryn turned toward her friend wanting to both help her and run away. They all had agreed that should one get caught the rest was to do whatever it took to live, even if that meant to abandon a friend.
"Go Kat!" Karen cried, she wanted her friend to run, run and never look back so that she could live. "Run! Michelle and Benny will find you!"
Tex felt his heart stop as he processed what he had heard. Michelle? Benny? He knew those names, yes, he knew those dreaded names! They were the only two survivors from when Lacie was murdered. Yes, Benny killed Lacie and Michelle stole Hunter. Then that would mean if they were coming to help this girl, this Kat, then she must be Hunter! It would make sense, they would want to make sure she never knew of her biological family and this was the opportunity they feared. The one he had been waiting for and he, for damn sure, wasn't about to let his daughter run away from him in total fear. He was her father and he hadn't seen her in years.
"Hunter!" he called after Kathryn, who had already ran away toward the bog where they disposed of bodies. He needed to get to her and fast. She wouldn't last long over there where they had traps and snares rigged endlessly.
"Uncle Tex?" little Zeke called softly on top of Karen.
Tex swore under his breath, he couldn't leave his nephew alone with this bitch. He wouldn't appreciate it if Junior or Tink did it to Hunter and Junior surely wouldn't either. "Get that bitch in the truck. We're going home so I can drop you both off."
"Why?" Zeke knew little about his older cousin who had been missing this whole time so he didn't realize that the girl he let run away was her.
"It's Hunter Zeke." He said, harshly tossing Karen into the back, "Cousin Hunter Zeke."
Zeke crawled on top of Karen, to ensure that the kicking blonde could not attack Tex as he drove them to her ultimate doom. She kicked, bit, punched, and swore violently as they drove to the hidden Texan home that housed his cannibalistic family.
Nick and Leo still remained hidden in the rusted old lockers, they wanted to help Kathryn and Karen but they had agreed; if one or two were caught the remaining survivors had to find help no matter what.
"Can we get out?" Nick asked through the worn hole between his and Leo's lockers.
"Wait." Leo listened intently, he had to be sure the man had left before exiting their only form of safety. He waited and waited until he happily heard the sounds of a truck reeving up and driving away. "Okay, now."
The two boys slowly and cautiously left their hiding spots, hoping that the man had taken this Zeke he spoke about with him.
"Did you hear what that man called Kat?" Nick as worriedly.
Leo nodded, "He called her Hunter." He felt his stomach do flips as he thought about it, even in the dark with little lighting he saw physical similarities between Tex and Kathryn. Both had similar facial structures, those her's were more girlish, their smiles were alike as well minus the sadistic way the man carried his. They were almost partial images of each other.
Sure, he had heard that people who never even met could look alike but this wasn't something he could pass as pure coincidence, Kathryn looked like she could be this man's child and honestly, with the way he called her Hunter, Leo felt that the man saw her a such.
"I hope Benny gets here soon." Nick prayed, "I want to help Kathryn."
"So do I." Leo agreed softly, "But we need to wait here for Benny or we'd be useless to Kat."
Nick nodded, "Yeah you're right."
Kathryn tripped and stumbled over so many things, though mostly it was her own feet. She hadn't paid any attention to where the truck was going but she knew that it never followed her directly. It was still on the road which, to her greatest fear, was slowly disappearing from her sight. She tried to find little landmarks to later direct her back to the gas station but everything so far looked the same even when it changed.
By the time she finally stopped to catch her breath, her body already low of adrenaline, she realized just how utterly lost she was. She was in a swamp like area, trees that were in the general area looked more like large sticks shoved into the ground though some bushed and thicker trees were available should she require a hiding hole.
She slowly walked around, trying to spot out any traps she figured were set. She nearly stepped of a few bear traps, found a couple of snares but all in all, she was pretty safe from the looks of it.
But for how long?
She thought back to the gas station, she trusted that Leo and Nick weren't caught by the man and boy like Karen. At least she had hope that Benny and Michelle would be able to help her out if the boys were still there. She knew they wanted to help her and Karen out but hopefully they remembered that by staying hidden they were helping out.
She then switched to Karen, that boy got her good when he tackled her. She had hit her head rather hard on the ground. Kathryn was surprised that she hadn't fallen unconscious from it. Even so, if that didn't hurt her much then whatever was waiting for her Kathryn knew would inflict pain far worse than a bump on the head.
"Please be okay." she softly prayed as she hid behind a large bush, she could have tried to find the gas station again, she could have tried to find help else where, but seriously, would that do her much good. She didn't even know what direction she came in, all her tripping and stumble sent her down many twists and turns. Moving her legs closer to her body, she winced when she moved her left ankle. She probably had twisted her ankle during her getaway, it was already starting to throb as were the rest of her legs. "Damn it."
If she need to move it was going to be difficult now, she was injured which was an advantage to her enemies. She didn't have the crow bar anymore, in hopes of someone going after her that was a friendly force she dropped it so it pointed in the direction she went, she still had her knife but again she was at a disadvantage due to her injury. She was weakened, she wouldn't be able to fight back as much as she would normally.
She needed a plan and she needed it quick. For all she knew someone was already in the swamp watching her, waiting for an opportunity to strike. First, she needed to know how badly damaged her ankle was. If it was still useable then she'd risk using it and if not...
She glanced down at her boot cut jeans, lifting them just enough to see the damage partially hidden underneath her ankle socks. She cursed, it was sickeningly black in this light. She really shouldn't risk moving, the swelling was worse than anything she had ever seen on any of athletes she helped care for in the nurse's office during a sport season.
Leaning back a bit, not able to look at her self induced weakness, she tried to think of a plan B. She had nothing. If she couldn't move then she was stuck and only by pure luck would anyone she'd want to find her actually reach her before these crazed murderers.
She was fucking screwed.
Benny stepped on the gas pedal a bit more as they approached the gas station. They saw no signs of life on the outside but that didn't mean anyone wasn't in there.
"Brandon," Benny called over his shoulder, "get me the shotgun."
The man only nodded as he pulled out Benny's shotgun along with a bag of extra shells. They had gone through this plan; check out the gas station, find who was left, finally finish off the Sawyers for good, and move on from there.
While it was a good and very much desired plan, all Brandon and Melissa cared for mainly was the safety of their adopted daughter. No, their daughter. Kathryn was more their child than she was these Sawyers'.
"Stay in the car." Benny told them, even Michelle. He trusted Michelle to do a better job handling a surprise attack than his friends. It was just she knew this situation better, that's all.
He left the jeep, it felt like Deja vu being back here again. He had nightmares of this part in Texas, never knowing where exactly, but none felt like the actual fear he had experienced once. It was like once you came back, all the emotions you felt from your first visit return as well.
He cautiously opened the door to the gas station, quietly closing it behind him just in case there was unwanted life there. He want survivors, not the killers. Not yet.
"Hello?" he called once he was pretty sure no one he didn't want was there, "Kathryn are you here?"
"Are you Benny?" he turned around and saw Leo and Nick standing there both looking on guard.
"I am." Benny answered, lowering his shotgun to show them that he meant no harm to them. "Are Kat's classmates?"
Nick nodded, "Yea but we'll do Intros later. We need to save them!" He rushed over to Benny eagerly and explained everything that had happened. From the bus incident to Kathryn running away while Karen was taken, Nick just had to tell someone who didn't know every detail, he just needed that emotional release.
"So they're still alive." Benny knew who the dark skinned man was along with the chainsaw wielding guy, he knew them very well. Apparently, the one he burned also was alive and not even badly injured. This was a problem, a big one too.
"Alright," Benny started toward the door, "Let's go to the jeep and we'll figure out what to do."
Nick and Leo followed him, while both preferred to just go look for Kathryn and whatever remained of their classmates they knew planning was something they had to do. No ifs, ands, or buts; if they didn't then they'd get themselves killed and then no one would survive this ordeal.
There was one thing, however, that they needed to know. Well, maybe not need but with the nagging sense to want to know, it became a need.
"Hey Benny?" Leo asked, he knew it wasn't his business but he wanted to ask.
"Yeah kid?"
"Why'd that man call Kathryn Hunter?"
Benny paused, Hunter? That man, Michelle said his name was Tex, called Kathryn Hunter? Kathryn's real name was Hunter? Wait, Tex knew who Kathryn was?! How!? He wasn't sure how to respond to that, how do you tell someone that their classmate, the sweetest girl you could ever meet, was actually the daughter of a crazed flesh eating family that was currently trying to kill them? Do you even tell them? He wasn't sure but he had to say something, "I'm not in a position to tell you."
Wassup! For those wondering about this Fanfic and Misadventures, I will still be working on both just moving back and forth between them. Don't worry, I'm doing my damn best to make sure I don't suddenly drop either stories. I want to finish them just as much as you guys do. Oh, yes I'll admit, never seen any of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, I've just seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. I've had many chances to see TMC 2 but in my obsession of seeing TMC 3 first, I've passed up every chance to see the second one. Everything I know is based off of the TMC wikai (Wiki) and the movie summaries I've read. Not as good as seeing the movies but it works well enough.
