Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4
Chapter 6: Kathryn's Long Lost Daddy
Kathryn hadn't realized she was even tired from all the events, all running, hiding, and adrenaline wore her out so much that with temporary safety gave her a moment of peace which turned into a quick nap. When did she passed out? She didn't know, her memory was fuzzy. She remembered that she was being hunted, remembered the incident at the gas station, remembered her ankle was useless, but when she possible could have fallen asleep didn't come to mind.
Not like it really was a pressing matter, she had find Benny and Michelle. Surely they were already at the gas station and were told by the boys were she went. Staying in the swamp wasn't a good idea now that she was more alert and rested. She had to go back, that man knew she went here and if he hasn't come for her yet then he would eventually. She didn't want to be here when he did.
"Alright." she tried to stand but her ankle protested against movement sharply. She winced at the painful surge coming from her injury. Still, she dare not give in to her pain for fear of being attacked. She simply forced away her discomfort and continued to tread onward. She hadn't noticed that her foot prints were evident on the ground still, the dirt was loose enough to create detailed prints that allowed her to follow. At the same time, with the tripping and stumbling she had done, she couldn't exactly see her trail. Especially since she did roll at one point in her getaway.
Benny and Michelle had agreed to tell the boys the truth of Kathryn's heritage, it was only fair that they know why this was happening. So, against Melissa's protest, they explained what happened seventeen, almost eighteen, years ago. From Michelle and her boy friend meeting Tex and Alfredo to when she and Benny renamed Kathryn as they finally got away from the demented Sawyers.
"I know this is hard for you to understand," Michelle pitied as she saw the shocked expressions on the boys' faces, "but Kathryn is still a good person, regardless of her family line."
"I'm going to the swamp." Benny said, gathering some extra shells and a pistol, "I've been in there so I know where to to look."
"What do you want us to do?" Michelle asked, "We don't have enough room for a bunch of teenagers."
Benny, with his loaded shotgun ready, jerked his head toward the road, "Go to the house, as close enough as you can without getting caught. I want you get those kids out of there and bring them here, one by one if you have to."
"Is that really a good idea?" Brandon asked, "Won't they notice?"
Michelle shook her head, "I don't know if they even check on these kids or how they're even holding them in captivity at the house. But Benny's right, we gotta get them one way or another."
"And should someone stop here, those who are here can get them to get help." Benny added as he made sure he had what he needed. "If you're lucky, we might be able to steal that large truck I remember them having last time."
Kathryn limped weakly toward another tree, whether she was lost or just on the verge of escaping the never ending swamp was no longer her concern. All she wanted was to stop walking and let her pain subside as much as possible.
Her ankle felt like a dead weight to her now. She barely could feel past the pain and when she tried to lift it her foot would still drag along the ground. It felt swollen, like she hadn't a foot anymore but a nasty blob that throbbed painfully even when nothing touched it. If she tried to continue on she would eventually not be able to move her entire leg anymore.
She thought she twisted her ankle, it felt more like she broke it. Really, she couldn't tell the difference by herself. For all she knew, her nerves could be making it seem as drastic as it felt when in reality it could be a simple sprain. Still, the pain was unbearable and she desperately wanted it to go away.
Falling at the base of the large tree, one of a few among the branch like growth, she panted slightly. The sharp pain force tears to leak out of her chocolate eyes, she bit back a cry as it continued to throb to a rhythm much identical to her heart beat. Whimpers and sharp intakes of breaths were all she allowed to come out as she forced her weak body against the trunk. She may be in pain that would never stop herself from trying to still survive this nightmare.
She stayed there, in a half fetal position, just waiting for help, waiting for a sign of life at least. All she could hear was the bristling of leaves in the gentle breeze, she heard some water not too far from here. That probably was a bad indication that she went deeper into the swamp rather than out of it.
"What the hell is this place?" she whispered softly as cradled herself a bit, "Am I in hell?" she let out a soft sob, her resistance against her pain was dwindling with each second. She was frightened, injured, lost, and being hunted; this was a lot for a girl handle.
"Hunter?" Kathryn let out a soft gasp, covering her mouth to prevent another sound from coming out. "Hunter where are you?"
Kathryn recognized that voice, the man who took Karen away was here. That man, he called that name before why she was running away. But why? Her name wasn't Hunter and even more so she didn't know this man.
"Psst." Kathryn turned her head, the noise came from an opposite direction of the man calling for Hunter. "Come here."
The voice was all she could hear, there was no face she could match it with but even against better judgment, she slowly crawled to where she heard the voice. It was challenging, she was weak and tired but she was willing to use what strength she had left to move away from her spot tot another.
The voice moved a bit, enough to reach for her so that it may drag her to its hiding location. " These creeps are crazy." he said, now she was able to properly identify her new ally as a man. "Killed my wife. She was pregnant with our first baby."
As badly as Kathryn wanted to apologize for the man's misfortune, she knew she had no time to sympathize. "Who are you?" she asked softly under the sounds of the man looking for her or this Hunter.
"Name's Rick." he said, constantly glancing around for the killer. "And you?"
"Kathryn." she answered, "Why are they doing this?"
Rick took another glance to find the killer man, before answering, "They're cannibals girl. Sick cannibals." He looked again, this time pleased to see that the man had moved farther away from them. "Come on, we gotta move before he comes looking over here."
"I can't." She tried hard not to whine, "My ankle's injured."
Rick stopped, he seemed a bit panicked but nonetheless forced Kathryn onto his back. "Can't let you rot here."
He carried her to another little hole where the man could not see them, if luck could be on their side, they wouldn't be found by him at all. However, be it luck wasn't on their side to start with hoping wasn't gonna do them both much either.
"Any idea who he's looking for?" he asked, carefully setting her down in the little hovel. "He keeps calling for a Hunter."
"He knows I'm here." Kathryn whispered, "I ran away from him when he took my best friend."
Rick fought against a groan, more to add to the hit list. And he knew for sure her friend would be dead soon if they aren't already. Surely by now she knew that too. "He has to leave eventually. He's gotta give up soon."
Kathryn wished she could agree, she wanted the guy to give up his search for her and whoever but deep down, she knew he wouldn't. None of these crazed killers would, they were hunting and nothing probably feels better to them than the glory of the hunt.
"I think he's gone."
Kathryn pulled herself out of her thoughts and listened, the man was gone. Or just being quiet. "I don't know..." She pulled her legs closer to her body, just waiting for something bad to happen. However, nothing did happen.
"He must be gone." Rick turned toward her and asked to see her ankle. "My wife taught me how to treat these kinds of injuries." He assured her when she instinctively backed away from him.
"Alright." She extended her leg out to him slowly, so she would cause anymore unintentional harm to it. "Just be careful okay?"
He nodded his head in understanding as he lifted her jeans so he could see it. "Jesus." she hurt herself pretty bad alright, nothing was broken thankfully but she'd better off not moving it at all. It wasn't a severe sprain, but pretty damn close. And it also looked like she hit something, something very thick and sharp like a bear trap embedded in a tree. While such a notion was laughable in a normal situation, here it was all possible and more than likely what happened.
"Did you fall?" he asked as he tore off his sleeve so that he could make a makeshift bandage out of it for now.
She nodded, "A bit."
He gave out a small chuckle, "You know, my buddies and I always complained how in horror movies that people could never run away from killers without falling or causing themselves any harm."
"In real life though," she stated softly, "you're so freaked out that you have no control over what happens."
Rick nodded, "Yeah."
Tex never did leave, he saw the bushes move as Rick relocated himself and Kathryn. That damn man. How many times can you stab a person until they die? Normally, most died after three since their last wound would be Junior's chainsaw but this man, he was determined to live. Although Tex wasn't sure why, they killed his pregnant wife, he had no kids, what could he possibly have left to live for?
Tex shook his head, none of that really mattered to him though. All he cared about was that Rick had Hunter and that was to his advantage. So, ever so quietly, he snuck up to where they hid waiting for his chance.
"Why are you out here?" he heard Rick ask curiously.
"My school was having a field trip for all the seniors." he heard Hunter explain. "I wanted to go on this trip so bad that I had a friend forge my dad's signature and ran off with my best friend."
"Not a bright idea now huh?" he chuckled.
She giggled a bit, "Yeah." She took a sharp intake of breath as Rick tied the rag. "Is that really gonna help?"
Rick shook his head, "Not really. There's nothing here that I can use to make a good cast for you." He gently made her fully stretch out her leg before lifting it a bit. "I can't use the exact R.I.C.E method but this should help to a small degree."
Tex hadn't noticed until now that she was injured, he knew something bad was gonna happen to his little girl out here. Now, she was in pain and it was all his fault for letting her get away from him. But he'd fix that and he'd fix that right now.
Taking the axe he had, he swung until it hit Rick right in the head. Not even caring about the blood that splattered on his little girl or the fact that she was screaming, he continued to hack at the widowed man's head until noting recognizable was left.
Kathryn, out of sheer fright, tried to get up and run but alas, her injury truly was her undoing. While she did manage to leave her spot and even get a little far away from him, he still caught her. Not like she really expected to get away, not like this.
"I got you Hunter." He said softly, so softly that she almost didn't hear him. "Daddy's got you now."
While the fact that he was calling her Hunter and claiming himself to be her father was disturbing, she didn't dare bother correcting him. Not while he still had that huge axe in his hand.
Baby fixed up what would have been Hunter's room if she hadn't been taken. She knew this time that Kathryn was her long lost cousin so she prepared the empty room for it's missing resident.
"Don't forget the toys!" Mama's electrical voice sounded from downstairs.
"Okay!" Baby replied back, already having the small bag of stuffed teddies and bunnies. They were all Hunter's toys from her mother Lacie. Tex still kept all of Hunter's things from the month they had the girl before those city folk came and ruined everything.
Baby, being only a kid when Lacie came into their lives, hadn't understood what Tex saw in the younger woman but she could see that the two loved each other dearly. Before Lacie, Tex hadn't cared about much except the well being of his family. He never was home much but when he was, he laze around and play with Baby while everyone else worked on whatever. When he met Lacie, however he did, he was suddenly home more, he started to do his own chores, and he did everything in his power to bring Lacie to their side of living.
With Lacie gone, Tex became an emotional wreak; his usual appearance as the more stable one was almost completely gone. Baby had to run the gas station because now she was the only normal appearing one of them all, even Zeke wasn't normal.
Shaking her head, Baby took a quick glance at one of the pictures that was taken long before they met Lacie. Tex had taken Lacie to Dallas, she had a few old and loyal friends who lived there. Tex never explained how he met Lacie or why they had hide her from public eyes but no one questioned him when he brought home this beautiful woman of California descent.
She smiled at the picture before moving it from its spot on the dresser to the nightstand beside the bed. When Hunter wakes up, knowing Tex he probably pinched the girl's neck, she'll be confused and frighted, maybe this picture will help her understand.
Zeke said that Benny and Michelle had returned as well, the two who ruined Tex and their dwindling family. Baby wasn't sure if they could handle another run in with the survivalist and woman, they got them once who's to say they won't do it again? Who would they lose this time? Last time, it was Lacie and Alfredo, though no one care about the old perverted creep. He was the dog of the family, he did the trash work while they did the actual work. That was lucky for them to have him gone but this time, they had the family in a corner. Even with the teens locked away they were in a tight spot.
