Danaya's POV:
I groaned and tried to stretch, but my body ached everywhere. I slowly opened my eyes to see Vidina sleeping beside my bed, his head near my side. I looked to my other side and found Alisa still unconscious in her bed. Apparently, everyone had been in the room discussing something when I woke up. They turned their attention to me, and Vidina had woken up. "Danaya! Are you okay?" His eyes held so much worry, and I laughed. I looked over Vidina once and saw that he had an artificial leg. It was something that was still in development by Gippal, but I'm guessing Gippal wanted to test it out on Vidina. It was sort of a mass of wires woven around a piece of metal shaped like a leg, but it was in no condition to be doing strenuous activities such as fighting. I figured Vidina was given that to just walk around Besaid.
"I'm fine…" I answered. I tried to get up and was able to sit up without dying. I glanced at Alisa. "How is she holding up?"
Iyana smiled and replied, "We healed her as much as we could. She's going to be fine, and she should be waking up in the morning. Anyways, we were called over for a mission at Bikanel Desert. Grandpa said he has something for us to do, and he told us it'll get our mind off of…Dad…while he tries to figure things out with Mom. You and Alisa can rest up and recover at the Oasis while the rest of us do the mission." I could tell Sargent wasn't too happy about the mission as he grumbled on about Alisa and me being lucky. Iyana nudged him, and I giggled.
Xanxus announced, "We'll leave in the morning, since it is pretty late." Everyone left the room and went to sleep in different rooms. Vidina didn't leave me just yet because he sat up and placed my hand in his.
"How have you been?" he asked, looking lovingly into my eyes. I smiled and caressed his face, slightly touching his eye patch.
"I've been fine. Well, as fine as I can be for now. Mirage and Makero are still stressing me out. It's been hard, but we're getting through it…You seem better," I commented. Vidina buried his head on my lap, and I stroked his red hair. We were like this for a while, just silently enjoying each other's company."That artificial leg, huh? Gippal give it to you?"
Vidina chuckled and replied, "Yeah. He told me that it's only for walking though, and that I'm not able to join you guys even with this leg. It's still in beta form, so I guess you can call me a walking experiment. Why, do I look sexy with it?" I giggled at his stupidity, but nodded otherwise. Eventually, I forced him to return to his home before Wakka and Lulu worried. I tried my best to lie down and fall asleep, but I just couldn't sleep. I sat up again and tried to stand up, but I only ended up falling back onto my bed from the pain in my legs.
I heard Alisa groan and start to wake up. "Danaya?" she murmured.
I told her, "I'm here. Just go back to sleep. We're okay, and the others will explain everything to you in the morning." I heard Alisa sigh, and by the next minute, she was already snoring. I rolled my eyes and closed my eyes as well. Tiredness eventually came over me, and I fell asleep.
The next morning, I was the last to wake up. Frustrated by this, I tried my best to rush and get ready for the day after Xanxus gave me some food to eat. Taehyr had helped Alisa get ready, and Iyana was helping me. She didn't want me limping on the way to the airship, so she had Vidina carry me by piggyback. Vidina laughed at my annoyance because I really didn't want to be carried all the way there. I could have handled myself…but being carried by Vidina was always nice. Once we got down to the beach, we said our goodbyes to Lulu, Wakka, Vidina, and some of the other villagers. Xanxus let me lean on him for support as we headed inside the airship. Without wasting another second, Iyana started up the airship, and we were on our way to Bikanel. I sat down on my bed in the Cabin and just took some time to reflect on some things while Alisa stayed in the Bridge and explained what happened to us to the others.
*What are we going to do now? Uncle Rhys is gone. Who knows what's being done to him. Out appear some lady and her bodyguard that both seem to be so powerful…* I looked down at the floor. *Is there even a purpose to this..?*
It was then that Analise called out to me, *Danaya…don't lose hope. You mustn't. You know why you're doing this. I know it's hard, but you can't give up. Danaya, everyone is counting on you. Don't you want to avenge your parents?* I nodded my head, grasping the hilt of my sword tighter. *Then do it.* Analise commanded. I stood up with some newfound motivation.
"Pello! Tell Iyana to take out some of the training dummies on the deck! I'm training!" I exclaimed, a small smirk forming on my face.
"But Mish Danaya, yoo are shtill injured, yesh?" Pello questioned. I laughed and waved my hand, signaling that I was going to be all right. As I waited for Iyana to give me the signal to go, I struck the air with my sword. My left arm was sore, so when I swung it, I flinched just a tiny bit. I stripped off my skirt and left my shorts on, deciding that I needed to be more comfortable if I was going to train a lot. I took in a deep breath and headed up to the deck when Iyana called me out. Once I got up there, Alisa and Taehyr sat in excitement, wondering how I was going to train. I lightly patted my healing gash on my side and hoped it wouldn't open up while I moved. About thirty dummies came out from the floor of the deck, and I got into my fighting stance. With a cry, I started running towards two of the dummies and struck them down with my sword. I flipped up in the air and started channeling my magic into my sword. "Shining Darkness!" Ten rays of light and ten rays of darkness hit those two dummies and completely destroyed them. I landed successfully on the floor of the deck with one leg outstretched. I darted for another one of the dummies, throwing a fire ball at it and striking it with my sword. I made eye contact with Taehyr, whom in turn, nodded her head and got her hands ready. I used her hand as a lever to jump up high in the air. Channeling my magic, I threw my sword higher up into the air than I was in and shot my sword with bursts of Holy. Those Holy attacks were absorbed my sword and once my sword came back into my hand, my sword grew ten "light" tentacles and crushed ten dummies just as I landed on the ground.
My landing was off as I slightly stumbled and fell to the floor. I bit my lip as one of my bruises on my leg hit the floor hard, but I brushed it off and continued to train with the other dummies. I slid underneath one of the dummies and struck it from below. I twirled my sword around while firing it up with Ice magic, forcing my sword to shoot ice spikes at the remaining dummies. Some of them were destroyed, but most of the dummies continued to stand. I paused for a short time to take a breath and continued on my way. I performed Slice and Dice on the dummies, destroying some more. I cast Nova and destroyed all but one of the dummies. I smiled and jumped up in the air to finish off the last one, when something hurt me from the inside. I was caught by surprise, so I fell back to the ground and gasped. I clutched my side, feeling the wet blood seeping through my bandages and onto my tank top. My gash had opened, and it was bleeding really badly.
"Naya!" my sister called to me. I put my hand out and said I could handle it. I closed my eyes and started to cast Cura on my injury, hoping the bleeding would stop. Beads of sweat rolled down my forehead as I headed back to the Cabin by myself. I changed my tank top and collapsed onto my bed in exhaustion. I struggled to even put my skirt back on. Alisa came to me anyways and kneeled on the floor, taking out her stitching tools. "Why did you train even if you knew your gash was going to open?" Alisa whispered as she expertly stitched my injury.
I smiled and explained, "I needed to train, Alisa. We have to get stronger if we're going to beat Mirage and her bodyguard, right? We also need to get stronger if we're going to bring Uncle Rhys back." Alisa said nothing, and I knew she agreed with me. "I won't let them get you…" I mumbled. Alisa paused her stitching to look up at me. Her eyes were fearful, and I knew she feared them getting her as well. When she finished stitching me up, Alisa walked with me to the Bridge. Everyone wanted to hit me upside the head for training, but they knew better. Xanxus and Sargent sat on the ground, admiring their guns. Alisa and Taehyr sat down near the Commsphere network, and I joined Iyana by sitting in the copilot's seat.
"So wait, what's the mission Cid has for us anyways?" Xanxus questioned Iyana.
Iyana chuckled and replied, "He wants us to do some more digging for him. Says he wants to work on building and advancing his machina drones, so he needs some more spare parts. Grandpa also said there are some manuals that need to be found." Sargent groaned. If there was anything he disliked, it was working in the hot sun, let alone in Bikanel. I remembered the last time all of us had excavated at Bikanel. It was without Alisa and Taehyr, but I had learned a lot about Xanxus that day. I tied up my hair into a high ponytail and looked out the windshield to see the bright blue sky.
An hour later, we had arrived at Home. A couple of Al Bhed helped us park the airship into a safe and secure area. The six of us got off the airship and were welcomed by the Al Bhed that were present. Grandpa appeared, and Alisa and Taehyr ran to hug him. Iyana nodded her head and acknowledged our grandfather. I hugged him tightly and watched as Sargent and Xanxus greeted Grandpa Cid.
"About time y'all got here! What? Yana's driving skills startin' to rust or somethin' like that?" Grandpa Cid complained. Iyana gave him a look, and Grandpa Cid put his arms up in defense. "Anyways, y'all can head out with Cora. She's waitin' with her hover and will take you to the Northern Expanse. Meanwhile, Danaya and Alisa, you two can go out to the Oasis and get yourselves some rest, ya hear? Fydan will take you there." Alisa and I nodded happily, while Sargent muttered something under his breath. Grandpa Cid took notice and stepped up to Sargent. Grandpa Cid asked, "What was that, son? You got a bone to pick with ol' Grandpappy Cid?" Grandpa Cid sneered and spit on the ground near Sargent.
Sargent straightened up and shook his head with a stern look on his face. "No, sir."
Grandpa turned to Iyana and reprimanded her, "Make sure you keep your boyfriend in line, Iyana. He's becoming more of an idiot." Iyana, Alisa, Taehyr, and I giggled at the comment. Alisa and I separated from the rest of the group as we walked over to Fydan, one of Alisa's close Al Bhed friends. I had only met him a few times, but he seemed like a nice guy. His name fit him well: meaning water in Al Bhed.
His light blue, spiky hair went well with his dark blue eyes. Although he was only a year older than Alisa, Fydan stood taller than me, around maybe Vidina's height. He greeted us both and invited us onto his hover. Alisa's stride seemed to quicken as she hopped onto the hover and plopped herself right next to Fydan. I raised an eyebrow, and I began to realize something here. *Danaya…is this what I think it is?* Analise asked. I nodded my head as I slowly got on the back of the hover and held onto it. Fydan started up the hover and went on his way to bring us to the Oasis. I watched Fydan and Alisa converse with each other, and I noticed that Alisa's eyes had become brighter. She smiled with Fydan more and he seemed to smile a lot at her, too. (Even if he WAS supposed to be paying attention to where he was going.)
Once we reached the Oasis, Alisa made no move to get out of the hover. I rolled my eyes and smiled as I hopped off the hover and stretched my arms. The wind was heavier in the Oasis area, which created perfect weather. I left them to talk for a little as I sat on one of the rocks and placed my hand in the water below. After a few minutes, I heard Fydan drive away in his hover. Alisa sat down next to me, and I nudged her with my shoulder. "What?" Alisa asked, her eyes gleaming in the sun.
"Don't act like it's not obvious!" I teased, our sisterly love showing through the slight shoves we gave each other. Alisa shook her head.
"It's nothing…Fydan and I are just friends, that's all." Alisa tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and looked the opposite way from me. I 'oooh-ed' and Alisa blushed even harder. The two of us broke out into laughter, and after a while, there was a calming silence.
I smiled and commented, "He seems like a nice kid. You're lucky I'm here, or else Dad would kill you." Alisa looked down at the water and smiled serenely. She and I took turns dropping small pebbles into the shallow water of the Oasis below and watched the water splatter. My eyes narrowed as I swore I heard something behind us. I whipped around and threw a fire ball at one of the few palm trees, but there was no movement. Alisa looked at me in surprise at my sudden attack because there was nothing behind the tree. We both shrugged and both turned back around to face front, when suddenly, I felt something scratch me on the back. I screamed in pain as I was forced off the cliff. Alisa called my name as I held onto the edge of the cliff with my hands. I could hear the sound of Alisa fighting with something, so I tried to get up and recover myself. The weight of my sword was dragging me down, so I had to act fast.
Swinging my legs, I was able to bring myself back up and help Alisa fight off the fiends that were surrounding her. I felt the stinging pain in my back but ignored it as I fought off 3 Sand wolves and two Alcyones. The beaks of the Alcyones pecked at me and caused some bruises to probably form. I saw a Zu coming behind us, so I grabbed Alisa's hand and ran down the cliff to flat land. Once we got to flat land, Alisa and I began to fight off the fiends. "We were supposed to rest!" Alisa shouted.
"Is this Mirage's doing?" I whispered as I struck down the two Alcyones and turned around to deal with the sand wolves. Grabbing my communicator, I was forced to fight with one hand as I tried to contact Iyana.
"Hello?"
"IYANA! COME QUICK! WE'RE BEING ATTACKED BY FIENDS AT THE OASIS, AND THERE'S TONS OF THEM!" I exclaimed in panic. I hung up and kicked the sand wolf nearest to me. I cast Thundaga on all three sand wolves. They burst into pyreflies, but four Mushussus surrounded me. "Oh crap…" I muttered as I got into a fighting stance and prepared myself for a long and tiring battle.
